Old apps unexpectedly quit in snow leopard
I have my drive partitioned between Tiger and Snow Leopard. I am trying to move myself over to Snow Leopard so I don't have to keep switching. The problem is that my old apps that alledgedly will work in SL, give me an error box when I launch them. It happens with Appleworks 6 and Quicken 2007. I've installed Rosetta but don't know what else to do. Any ideas?
When I launch either application, it says it unexpectedly quit and gives this info:

I've never had a Rosetta issue with SL and have all updates. In fact, I beta-tested most and never came across one. Good luck in your search. Should prove interesting reading.

ITunes unexpectedly quits after Snow Leopard install
I installed Snow Leopard about a month back and iTunes immediately unexpectedly quits since. However, it does work when logging in the guest account. The following is the log file, and I'd be grateful if anyone can find the culprit:

Some apps consttanly quitting under Snow Leopard?
I guess it's because they aren't quite compatible with Snow Leopard?
Filemaker Pro 6
BBedit 7
Photoshop 8 (particularly when using the Magic Wand tool)
and a few other apps too. Any suggestions? Everything was fine until I upgraded to Snow Leopard.Marc Morris wrote:

You may be right. Check the [compatibility of your software and hardware here|http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/forum:start]. How did you install? If incompatibility isn't the problem, then:
1. Repair permissions and disk, the first from your desktop and the second using your install DVD.
2. Try [resetting your PRAM/NVRAM|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US]. If everything isn't fixed, then follow the [steps here including resetting your SMC if necessary|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1806].
3. Use Font Book to eliminate bad and duplicate fonts.
4. Reinstall (or install for the first time) the .6.1 and .6.2 updates by [downloading and installing the combo updater|http://support.apple.com/kb/DL959].
5. Reinstall 10.6 using you Sno install DVD by installing Sno over Sno using the upgrade method. Test your system after returning to 10.6. If is good there, then you may not want to install the updates, .6.1 and .6.2. But, if you do, then use the combo updater again. -
Apps unexpectedly quit on Ipad Air
I have a 32GB iPad Air with iOS 7.0.4.
I bought it during the Thanksgiving last year, so it is only 2 months old.
"APPs unexpectedly quit" happens to me every day, at least 3 times a day.
Usually this happen to the Facebook App and Safari, and sometimes the shopping app (eg. Amazon, Expedia)
I thought that was the problem from the App
and now, the "Setting" also have the same problem
Is this the software or hardware problem?
Should I bring back to Apple Store and let the expert to have a check? Before you visit the Apple Store, reboot your iPad by pressing Home and Sleep at the same time; in a few seconds, your device will restart. Some users have found this helpful.
Although the iPad isn't designed for multitasking, it's easy to have several apps going at the same time. Try using one at a time, instead.

I have a couple of questions? 1. I recently updated my old '04 macbook pro to snow leopard 10.6.8, when I went to open an old word doc., it opened with iwork and will not allow me to print until I update to iwork'08. Do I have to update? If I do, is this an update or do I have to purchase iwork? 2. Can I update my old '04 macbook pro to Lion or Mountain Lion or is this too much? I just purchased and iphone 5 but do not know if Snow Leopard can give me the future updates I might need?? Also does icloud work with Snow Leopard? Thanks for help, I am lost...
Try resetting your SMC and NVRAM before attempting to install again.
Resetting the NVRAM/PRAM
Note: This will not delete any data.
The NVRAM/PRAM stores information such as speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and recent kernel panic information (if any). You should reset the NVRAM/PRAM if you experience issues relating to these functions.
Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…
Select Shut Down or allow the computer to shut down automatically.

Continue to hold down the keys until the computer restarts and you hear the startup chime for the second time.
Release the keys on the built-in keyboard.
Resetting the SMC of an Intel-based portable Mac with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: This will not delete any data.
The SMC is responsible for controlling various system functions. None of your data will be deleted by resetting the SMC.
Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…
Select Shut Down or allow the computer to shut down automatically.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter into a power source and then connect it to your Mac if you have not already done so.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift (⇧), Control (⌃), and Option (⌥) keys and the Power Button at the same time.

Pages app unexpectedly quit whilst I was in the middle of a document. I can now not open it AT ALL. I find it's not just that particular document that won't open, but any of my Pages docs will not open using the current version of Pages. The reports of the app unexpectedly closing each time, automatically went to Apple, but I am not sure what happens with them then. Does anyone know how to help me with this? We live in a very isolated region so rely on internet help. Thanks
I also managed to read a few other discussions about Pages and files not being able to open. I actually went to the last back-up and restored the computer from that and everything seemed to work ok again, which is great!...advice from another discussion I think you may have been involved in PeterB. Thanks for the advice...also this advice, as I will make a note of trying to open using the Shift key if it happens again and see what happens...might be an easier first option than restoring from a back-up. Thans heaps for the help!
I was interested to read some of the other discussions where it was stated that Pages '09 seems to be a better option to use. I have both installed, so I will lkeep this in mind. Thanks heaps! -
HELP!! My Apple "MAIL" app. unexpectedly quits each time I open it.
My Apple "MAIL" app. unexpectedly quits each time I open it.
It will begin to load my mail, show the mailboxes and new e-mails and then all of a sudden quit.
I searched some of the Apple support and forums and have tried these things:
1. I trashed the "com.apple.mail.plist" preference file in the pref. folder.
2. I did an archieve install with Tiger OSX on my entire System Folder.
3. I erased my user>library>"mail folder"
4. I tried holding the shift key upon opening the program as suggested here but to no avail: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=479497&tstart=0
This has not resolved the problem. The program still quits every time I open it.

If this is the result of having deleted the *.emlx files manually, you're probably seeing this error message because there is still a reference to them in Envelope Index.
Is there anyway to tell Mail to re-download these
mail files and reconnect them?
If they're still on the server, yes. Choose Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu located below the mailboxes list in the main Mail window to open the Account Info window -- type "Account Info" in the search field of Mail Help for more information on this feature. Now, choose the account that has the problem from the Account popup menu at the top of the window. Does Mail display there the messages that are missing? What type of account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)? -
i have a Mac i5 and need to download the application 'Numbers' but everytime I try to do so, it says can't do as the ver 2.2 for the app needs new software 'Snow Leopard'. I don't want to upgrade but dont know what to do??
If your profile is correct you're already on the final version of Snow Leopard (10.6.8). Sure it wasn't Lion it was asking for?
If that's the only version available on the app store, you'll need to source a copy of the iWork '09 DVD - not cheap now - only available via Amazon or eBay etc. -
Master Collection CS4—MacOS 10.5.8
This happens frequently, but not always.
When I normally quit one of these apps—Photoshop, Fireworks, InDesign, for example, I get the warning dialog box stating that the app unexpectedly quit—send details to Adobe, to which I have been clicking yes, but never a reply.
I've deleted preferences, but that had no effect. As this seems to be an issue with all these apps, except Acrobat, maybe there is a system wide problem.
Anyone else run into this, and was there a solution?
Thanks,Check the startup disk ... (not the same as repairing permissions)
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If DU reports errors, start up from your Mac install disc to make repairs.

Import contacts from old address book on MacBkPro Snow Leopard into new MacBk Pro Lion
How do I import my contacts from old address book on MacBkPro Snow Leopard into new MacBk Pro Lion (on MacBkPro Retina). I can see the "AddressBook" file on the old HD (extracted from old machine--which died) and have a copy of that file on to desktop of new machine. [Copied from old HD: Users/home/Library/Application Support/Address Book]. There is an Address Book in the same location on the "MacIntosh HD" of the new machine, but some of the files in that (new) folder have different names. Risky to simply over-ride this. What should I do?
My mistake - my groups are there! They transferred perfectly. Still getting used to my wonderful new machine. Sorry to bother you!

IWorks '08 apps not working under Snow Leopard 10.6.1
Recently installed Snow Leopard and applied updates. Used Pages and Numbers recently and find they don't work. Old files can open ok and all text is visible, however, I am unable to do anything from the menu bar. For example, from the "Insert menu", I can't insert the time and date, shapes, text boxes, and ultimately, I can't quit from the menu bar. The file name just stays a highlighted blue color. However, keyboard commands work where applicable. This situation is for Pages and Numbers (all updated to latest versions). Keynote I haven't tried.
This problem also exists for iPhoto and iTunes, although command-q for iTunes didn't work just now. Can't find any forums anywhere talking about this problem. But now, my apps are virtually useless as most actions don't have keyboard commands. Hopefully it's a simple problem.
Thanks for your help.
DerekHI Derek,
Download and install the 10.6.1 combo update available here. (It's ok to do this even though you are running 10.6.1 already). As with any installation, make sure your important files are backed up first.
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL930
Then repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

I can no longer reinstall an app I purchased on Snow Leopard
Now let me try to explain this as easily as possible.
I have OS X 10.6.8 running on a prematurely obsoleted Core Duo iMac, and I stupidly purchased Apps on the Mac App Store.
My computer was behaving very strangely and I reinstalled the OS...
I log in to my App Store account and try to redownload some of the Apps I have purchased.
Several of them say... Cannot install, need OS X 10.7...
No worries, I think. I just need to recover them from my Time Machine backup. And I do so.
But one or two of the apps in my backups were updated just after the time machine backup last took place to their final, Snow Leopard compatible version and the older versions I have reinstalled from Time Machine cannot read the data files created by these newer, updated versions.
I cannot get the required version of the software. I cannot upgrade to Lion.
I hope you managed to stay with me long enough...
Any suggestions.
Apple's treadmill of exciting upgrades used to thrill me when I had spare money to waste on the latest and greatest. Now it just tires me, I'm getting fed up of their forced obsolescence of old stuff...
Sadly, the days when one used to say... "But don't worry about the next new OS, because your computer is still just a good as it used to be."
I'm backing up this post before I submit it... just in case...I have the same problem (for Mac and iPhone apps) and contacted Apple about this.
The English speaking support said it is a known error and that they are working on a solution. The German support however (which I contacted first, unfortunately) gave me a refund of the apps I wrote them as an example. They told me I should buy them again – which is not possible, since the MacAppStore then gives the message "You have already purchased this app..." Ironically, for one of the two apps I was finally able to write a review, even at this point it wasn't listed in the purchased apps list anymore.
I've never asked for a refund, and it's causing me more trouble than I had before: now I cannot update these refunded apps anymore (since they are not listed in the "Purchased" list). So I have to check manually if there is a new update (comparing version numbers) and then delete the app and "purchase" it again. Of course I would simply buy the apps from the developer directly, however, they are MacAppStore only.
When I asked the AppStore support about a solution for this problem, they said it's technically not possible to write reviews for refunded apps (? yes, of course they were not really reading what I wrote them. I guess support at Apple is done by Siri now) and gave 10 free iTunes songs.
I think reviews are very important for both customers and developers and it's not just a minor inconvenience, but a serious problem; what is especially disturbing, is that it's not the same for all apps: for Pixelmator, I had no problems to post a review, for Jumsoft's "Relationship" it doesn't work, for some apps it worked immediately, for some after a few weeks, for some never. -
RAW CR2 files cause Bridge / PS CS3 to quit after Snow Leopard
OS: Snow Leopard Fresh Install
Camera: Canon XTi
Files: Canon RAW CR2
Issue: Access of ANY kind to a RAW file causes the app(s) to quit.
Detail: Everything was fine in Leopard but for various reasons I did a fresh install of Snow Leopard. Wiped the drive and installed clean. Installed iLife 09 and then did any Apple updates. I then installed CS3 and did all the Adobe updates (Almost 600 MB). Used PS for some graphic stuff with no issue and thought everything was good until today. Went to Bridge and simply tried to navigate to my RAW photos and it quit. Tried opening a RAW in PS... same thing. Checked the ACR version and is was 4.6 but I reinstalled anyway... same. So, I uninstalled the fresh copy of CS3 and reinstalled to be safe... same. OK, now it was testing time. Navigated to the RAW files in Finder and can view them fine. I can quick preview them, open them in preview etc, so the OS raw support is fine. Same thing happens just trying to open the file with PS CS3 since it open using RAW.
I removed the RAW plugin and Bridge stayed open fine and displayed the files as generic thumbs. Put the plugin back and it dies again.
In Leopard the RAW Prefs were set to store the settings in the RAW database instead of sidecar files and I have tried putting the database file in from the pre-snow leopard backup. No luck. I am totally stumped any any ideas are welcome. I am about to restore the Leopard image.
Thanks in advance,
RazzThanks for the idea Carolyn.
Unfortunately it did not fix it. I had tried it before and tried it again after your post. Thing is, it can't be the cache since the install of bridge has never been used. As soon as I load it and try to go view my files it quits. I would expect this from an upgraded SL install but an erase & install with fresh CS3 and all the OS and Adobe updates should be smooth. I really don't want to go back to Leopard but have to be able to mess with my photos. Why would removing the raw plugin stop the failure? It is 1 file, the correct version and fresh installed. Not sure what to do except maybe start over and yet that could still fail and takes a LONG time. I hate to upgrade to CS4 since I am not sure where the issues is.
Maybe install SL again over the top as an upgrade?
Any other ideas?
Thanks, Razz -
I have an IMAP mailbox that seems to only show mail 7 days on my iMac running Snow Leopard. However, on my MacBook Pro I can see all old mail that I have not deleted. It is running the next operating system (Lion?). Does anyone know how I can get all my old mail back on my iMac. It is my primary computer and I need some of those old messages. I have tried to rebuild the mailbox but it has not done anything.
I have tried to rebuild the mailbox to no avail. The mailbox behavior says: Drafts (not checked) store draft messages on the server, Notes (checked) show not in Inbox, Sent (checked) Store sent messages on the server Delete sent messages when (option never selected), Junt (not checked) store junk messages on the server Delete junk messages when (option never selected), Trash (checked) moves deleted messages to the Trash mailbox and (checked) store deleted messages on the server Permanently erase deleted messages when (one month old option selected).
I have not set up any rules that I know of other than a signature, in the very least I have not changed any.
