Old Cameras and Future ACR updates

Quick question: with a future update of ACR, would one expect it to improve the rendering of RAW files from an "old" camera or would it only be likely to improve renderings for new cameras going forward?
Generally, I guess I'm wondering if when ACR rendering is improved, is it relying upon new profiles from old cameras (seems to be unlikely level of effort required) or upon improved ability to understand the manufacture's RAW files, which would affect the full line of that manufacturers cameras?
Specifically, I have a 3-4 yo Canon Rebel XT. I'm wondering if future versions/improvements to ACR would improve the ability to read RAW files from this camera.
Thanks,
Frank

There is two parts to understanding RAW. One is the demosaic algorithm. Almost every current camera uses a Bayer mosaic sensor with a simple antialias filter in front. When ACR's algorithm for demoisaicing improves, it improves for ALL cameras, not just the new ones. You'll gte more detail and lower noise automatically. Second part is the mapping of the camera signals to certain colors. To do this the ACR/Lightroom folks shoot testcharts with all these different cameras and generate profiles from these shots. New profiles are added all the time and in 1.4 (ACR 4.4), a lot of new profiles for old cameras were introduced. Even for cameras that are not sold anymore. At some point for sure, they must stop profiling older cameras. You'll still benefit from improvements in the demosiac though.

You can't merge accounts or copy content to a different account, so anything that you bought or downloaded via the old account is tied to that account - so any updates that those apps get you will only be able to download via that account. You can change which account is logged in on the iPad via Settings > Store

I don't believe the iOS7 update was the cause for your issue. I have three devices all updated and they all show the Import To drop menu in Image Capture as shown below.

  • HT5958 The latest update has already caused problems, Final Cut can't find my old projects and events to update. Can anyone offer any advise?

On update Final cut updated some of my projects and events bringing them into the new interface. I had older projects that I didn't want visible before the update in folders labled 'Final Cut Events (Hidden)'. The update couldn't see these and since I can't find a way of bringing them into Final cut 10.1.
Every attempt ends with a message indicating that no projects can be found.
    Any advise welcome.

Move them out of there and put them in the correct FCP project folder structure.

  • "Tango" and future "Apollo" update

    Hello.
At the moment i'm looking to buy a new phone and am considering the Nokia Lumia 800.
What i want to know is if this mobile will be able to support the upcoming Tango update by MS and eventually upgrade to the windowsmobile 8 platform due out by the end of the year.
    Does anyone know?

Windows Phone Tango minimum hardware limitations outlined..
Both the Lumia 610 and Orbit employ 256MB of RAM and this means that there are certain implications which consumers will need to bear in mind when choosing a Windows Phone device, these are as follows:
    • Windows Phone Marketplace app restrictions – Some processor-intensive apps have particular memory requirements, and won’t work on phones with 256MB of RAM.
    • Podcast/Video Podcast Subscriptions – Managing podcast subscriptions or watching video podcasts on a device with 256MB of RAM will not be possible.
    • Bing Local Scout – Bing Local Scout won't feature on a device with only 256MB of RAM.
    • Fast app/Task switching – The feature differs on Windows Phones with 256MB of RAM in that if a single application uses over 90MB, it will be killed on exit and thus not appear in the task switcher, besides this the functionality will remain unchanged.
    • SkyDrive automatic photo upload – 256MB of RAM means no auto-upload option, but users will still be able to upload their photos manually.
    • HD video playback – Some compressed videos will be unable to play due to a lack of  codec support on devices with 256MB of RAM.
    • Background agents – To free up RAM for the foreground on such devices, generic background agents (PeriodicTasks/ResourceIntensiveTasks) will be disabled.
As well as informing prospective buyers of these new more competitively priced Windows Phones what they'll be missing out on, Microsoft have also made a point of appealing to Windows Phone developers who will need to take into account the limitations of devices using the new minimum hardware requirements.
Speed seems to be key with a message of optimizing app start times and reducing an apps' memory footprint being pushed to developers. All this being said, Microsoft are adding features to Windows Phone 7.5 too, including a new location alert, MMS enhancements and improved SIM contact management.
Windows Phone "Tango" should be arriving on 256MB of RAM-endowed Windows Phone devices come Q2 this year.

I follow my investments using the investment company's website. Today's data using Firefox does not reflect completley today's updates but retains some of yesterday's data. Why? What do I need to do?

  • MY old camera was a 60D with 7.1 raw format  and the new one is 6D. How do I get a plug in that will allow me to use both cameras in raw, and still access my old raw 7.1  files ? I am using Elements 11,

using Elements 11, can I get a plug in that supports both cameras, and still access my old raw 7.1 files

A new plug-in will support all the older cameras, so a plug-in that supports the newer 6D will also support the older 60D.
The 60D needs at least ACR 6.2.
The 6D needs at least ACR 7.3.
PSE11 ships with ACR 7.1 but can be updated all the way up to ACR 8.0.
What happens when you do a Help / Updates in the PSE Editor application?

My itunes is on an old computer.  So old that I can't update it and so Haven't used it in two years.  How can I move it to my new laptop and make sure this doesn't happen again?  Very frustrated that I've spend $$ but can't get my music.
I want so set up itunes on my laptop and make sure that I get all of my old music and any music shared from my sons' itunes accounts.  Do I have to set up itunes on my new laptop first and then use the same logins?  Really concerned about losing any music, etc.

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have failed to move contacts and calendar items across you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • Often, when I connect my iPod Touch to the PC, instead of it showing up as a device in iTunes, a window pops up that says I have connected a camera, and asks what to do.  It is really annoying when this happens, because sometimes I cannot update my iPod

Often, when I connect my iPod Touch 2G to the PC, instead of showing up as a device on iTunes, a pop-up appears that says I have connected a camera and asks what I want to do.  This device doesn't have a camera in it.  When this happens, (not always)I can't update my iPod, no matter how many times I try to connect it.  I have an old Nano that has never had this problem at all.  Can anyone tell me what to do about this?

Pictures are designed to be copied off the device regularly as would be done with any digital camera.  There is no logical reason why anyone would fail to do this with supposedly important pictures.
If a recent backup exists, it is also possible to restore the device from the most recent backup, this may restore pictures to the device.  If it does, COPY THEM OFF THE DEVICE IMMEDIATELY for safekeeping.
