Old clip art from Illustrator 88

I'm looking for a file "American view globe.eps" that I believe was included in Illustrator 88. Unfortunately I no longer have those disks. Does anyone have a copy of this file or could tell me where to find it. It doesn't turn up on a google search. Thanks, Jon

Opened Inkscape on my Mac using their mickey mouse emulator X11.
When I tried to import the CMX I got this error notice:
Inkscape has received additional data from the script executed. The script did not return an error, but this may indicate the results will not be as expected.
You need to install the UniConvertor software.
For GNU/Linux: install the package python-uniconvertor.
For Windows: download it from http://sk1project.org/modules.php?name=Products&product=uniconvertor and install into your Inkscape's Python location.
Don't know what to do with that.

Vector art from Illustrator showing up pixelated in Photoshop

I am trying to copy art in Illustrator and paste it into Photoshop but no matter what I do it's showing up pixelated or low resolution.
I have the Document Raster Effects setting in Illustrator set to 300 ppi.
When I copy the art and go to Photoshop and start a new document the clipboard preset says 72 ppi instead of 300.
I changed it to 300 but my art was still coming in low res.
Just found out that if I switch the units to inches from pixels in the new document window and then change the resolution to 300 it seems to work how I want it to.
Is there a setting that will copy the artwork in illustrator at 300 ppi so that when I start a new document in photoshop it will recognize the clipboard data as 300?

Vector art in AI has no set resolution. It is set only on output.

Copy object with clipping mask from illustrator to photoshop

I want to copy objects from illustrator to use in photoshop, but the eps file that i am working in has a clipping mask and when i attempt to copy objects in that file from illustrator 6 to photoshop 6, portions (in some cases) all of the object turns black or gray. I'm sure this is a simple noob error (hope my question is clear enough), and it's driving me nuts. I have searched for solutions using terms "clipping mask, black, copy, move, illustrator, photoshop, etc." and can't find any discussions on this topic. Can you please help?

You simply lose the blending modes and transparency settings because this stuff works differently in both programs. You will have to reinstate it manually e.g. if the white highlight is created usuing Add blending mode, you will ghave to use the same in PS...

How do you transfer line art from Illustrator to Photoshop?

I created a set of icons in illustrator and would like to move them to photoshop as shape layers. The icons are created from the strokes of shapes, and when I paste them into photoshop, the shape fills in and I lose the stroke. I could add a stroke in photoshop, but it misses any internal strokes that I have drawn. I could plate them as smart objects, but I would prefer them to be shape layers. How can I get these icons into photoshop?

Dear vbach: If by "Line art" you mean Line art in the original sense, i.e., black lines on a white background, I've been doing it for twenty-odd years, copying from AI to PS. It's gotten better lately with the shaped lines now available in AI. I don't have to outline anything. Select lines in Illustrator, copy, switch to PS, and paste into a new or existing file. See attached half-size jpeg. Is this what you mean?

A long time ago I got confused by this - not sure I ever got
it right.
What I thought should happen is that each swf carries its own
timeline and
timing - so if you drop a 12 fps movie into a 30 fps movie, I
*thought* the
inserted swf should still play at 12 fps ...... but (here's
my confusion)
maybe it takes on 30 fps, maybe it doesn't. Should be easy to
test.
You should be able to extend the duration of the swf on the
timeline anyway.
I've also had good success by first importing the gif into
Fireworks, where
I have fount it easier to manipulate the frames and frame
rate before
resaving as animated give to import to Flash (this was a
while ago, though,
so maybe doing all the work in Flash is actually easier
now???).

CS3 w/Vista and My Clip Art Collection

Hi - have had CS3 for about six months but just now getting deep into using it (good bye Quark!). Tried to use some clip art from my collection and it gives me a message that the type can't be opened and is not compatible. In the controls I have them all turned on - .bmp, .tif and of course, even the .jpegs! But it will take nothing off the CDs. It imports and uses clipart from lots of other sources, but declines any of my CDs. I even tried cut, past and copy in the clip board - but it does the same thing. Now, granted they are ten years old on average - but the base format did not change - did it? Also, I had no problem opening them with my 7.1 Adobe Pagemaker under Vista, or at this time with any other program on the same computer. HELP!

Not only does WMF not support CMYK (no big deal in this day an age)
there's no apparent support for bezier curves, either.
So, anything that looks like it has curves really has lots of little
straight line segments. If you scale it up, you wind up with the same
problem you have with raster images.
FWIW, the only program I've found that does a good job of creating WMFs
is CorelDRAW. Illustrator's capabilities there are awful unless I
haven't been able to find some settings for smoothing out the curves.
Circles usually wind up looking like octagons.

PNG Export from Illustrator 8 Washed Out When Opened in Fireworks MX

When I export a file containing line art from Illustrator 8 as a PNG and open it in Fireworks MX, the lines and colors are washed out. Why is this?

If you are talking about the sharpness of shapes, it's probably because the image is now made up of pixels, not paths. When you export the AI file to PNG, you rasterize it.
If you are talking about color accuracy, you will have to get into the whole issue of color management settings beween your applications.
Was the AI document CMYK or RGB? What are your PNG export settings? Did you use Export or Save For Web?
What versions of both programs are you using?
Can you post AI and FW screen shots of at least a portion of the artwork?

Clip art or icons

Can someone tell me if there is clip art on a mac as in windows or what its equal is and how to get to it? I have started using Ibank and the program will let you put pictures or icons by the transactions . I would like to have the icons i am going to use saved on my mac so i don't have to get them off the web all the time.Maybe someone out here uses ibank and knows how to save them in ibank. Either way would be a big help.

If you want access to any and all, from your Applications folder, Control+click on the iWeb.app. Choose Show Package Contents.
You can find all of these items by following this path:
Contents/Resources/English.Iproj/Templates
Select the template that has the Clip Art you want, and Control+click on it, again, choosing Show Package Contents. Find the item you are looking for and double-click it; it will open in Preview. Now, File/Save As, and choose the Desktop as the location.
You have now acquired your clip art from the iWeb.app and it is saved on your Desktop. The nice thing about this approach is you can get anything; e.g., some of those cool Apple page backgrounds.

Hi. The Podcast cover art doesn't sync. Its stuck at an old cover art from the previous played episodes. I believe it's showing the cover art from the first available episode even though each episode has a different cover art. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot. :)

iTunes is looking for a feed at http://feeds.feedburner.com/RogueArrowPodcast . The reason this does not work is that the media file URLs are feedproxy ones which do not end with an extension, e.g. .mp3, so iTunes doesn't recognize them as media files and does not display the episodes. You need to provide a direct URL to the media files.
As to the other feed, the image URL leads to a Photobucket web page hosting the image. This obviously won't work and you need to provide a direct link to the image. The actual URL is
http://i714.photobucket.com/albums/ww146/amazingbass/Podcasts/RogueArrowiTunes.p ng
However the image is 1024 x 1024 - it must be 1400 x 1400 (and less than 500kB which it is at the moment).
If you submit this feed it will end up as an entirely separate podcast, entitled 'Autologicool Test Feed'. You need to correct the image and then substitute the code in the original feed from which the Feedburner feed is drawn.

Old Corel Clip Art

Blast from the past! Years ago I bought CorelDRAW 6 for the Mac (yes, the Mac). Of course, the software is hopelessly obsolete, but it came with a great clip art package. Some of the images are much better than what you'd expect. But they're in some weird format -- can't even see a file extension -- and the only program that I've ever been able to open them in is Illustrator 8. Even AI 9 wouldn't do it.
My old Mac with Classic still on it conked out. Does anyone have any idea how I could get these files to open in OS X?

Yes, I have been using the software that came with this printer and has been working great for 2 years however I couldn't print clip art, I asked the place that sold the plotter to me and they said with the software that came with the printer I could not print clip art and I had to formal an illustrator and recommended Adobe

And replace it with what? transparency? You'll need to work in a format that supports that like png or psd. So you'll need a good editor too.

Have you read the User's Guide for that printer? Odds are you will get reasonable prints. However, it is a photographic printer. That said, it should print excellent quality photographic files. To get smooth lines in Illustrator, try Preferences > Use Anti-Aliased Artwork. That will smoothen the output. If, for some reason, that does not work, try Print > Save As PDF > open PDF in Reader and print from there. Check the User's Guide for media sizes available for your particular printer. Setup your artboard to the size page you want the image to print on. Use View > Show Page Tiling ( to see where the page's printable area lies. Align the page with the artboard using the Page tool.

Can you open that PDF with a text editor and check that the first four characters are '%PDF'.
