Old Computer crashed! Want to transfer library from Mini to new computer

Hi! So... my old computer crashed , w/ no back up files! My Ipod Mini is totally intact, w/ my library, but I can't seem to load my library onto my new computer! I was told that if I try to "sync" The songs on my Ipod that I will lose my whole library and it will erase all my songs! Help!!!

I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

Hello. My old hard drive crashed and I bought a new computer. Unfortunately I did not back up any files from my old computer and lost all files including iTunes music. Old computer crashed & have to put music from iPod to new computer.HELP?

Our old Desktop computer crashed, finaly have a new computer, but am unsure hoe to transfer all content (music, games, movies & photos) from iPod classic to new computer.
Our last computer run on Windows XP & the new one is Vista, have already down loaded new version of iTunes to new computer, but don't want to plug in iPod, just yet. Don't want to loose all our music (over 2000 songs ) Some are from the iTunes store & some are from our CD colletion, which took ages to put on computer. I also have over 200 photos that were on old computer & is on iPod that I would like to transfer to new computer. Have also purchased movies from iPod Lounge (not iTunes) & am hoping that I will be able to transfer these as well. I have searched & have found several different ways you can do this, but am still unsure of the whole process. If anyone out there has had this issue,a bit of guidence would be appreciated. Thanks

Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library.There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, before you connect the iPod go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
An alternative method is to connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump and iPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

I want to transfer my songs from my Ipod to another computer but Itunes on the new computer wants to erase my Ipod first. How do I do this? I hate the idea of all my songs being on just one computer. What if the thing starts smoking. I'd hate to have to re-collect over 1000 songs.

My old computer with all of my music on it crashed and is totally kapaupt. However, like a big dummy, I did not have a back-up for my music library. Is there any way to transfer my music from my Ipod to my new computer????

As you may have already found out that while we can transfer music from iTunes to an iPod, we cannot transfer music from iPod to iTunes.
You need to move your music from your iPod to your new iTunes and one of the ways that you can do this is with the help of a third party software.
Please read [*_This Discussion Thread_*|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10570955#10570955] and pay particular attention to the post from Zevoneer. In his post all available software is listed which you can use to accomplish what you want. Most of the software is free. Good Luck.

I recently had to buy a new computer and want to transfer my playlists to my new computer

I recently had to buy a new computer and want to move my playlists from my old one. The playlists include both purchased tracks and tracks uploaded from my cd collection. My old os is Windows XP and my new os is Windows 8 if that is of any relevance to a possible solution. I do not have an external hard drive but do have a memory stick if it is possible to load the individual playlists onto it.

If you have purchased songs from the iTunes Music Store, then those are pretty easy to transfer to your computer. You'll just need to follow [this instructions|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305465].
All your other songs (for example, those ripped from your CD's), you'll need to use any 3rd party program to transfer them to your iTunes library!
Some can also transfer your playlists, videos, ratings, podcast...

Want to transfer songs and pics to new computer without old one

My old computer, somethings really wrong with the drivers, and it doesn't recognize my ipod or any usb device (we have given up trying to fix it, we've tried like everything, including reinstalling windows, therefore deleting all of my songs and itunes and everything. But the problem persists, and I can't even charge my ipod because its not recognized.)
So I bought a new laptop, and I want to transfer the songs to my new computer. Is that possible without using my old computer? and how do I do it? All the songs that I want to transfer are already on my ipod (at least I think that are, i can still listen to all of my songs on my ipod if I charge it with someone else's computer...and none of them are from the itunes store). What steps do I need to take to transfer them and is there a risk of all of my songs being deleted for some reason during transfer?
Help me please! and if you can't help me, is there any way I could email a tech support person who could?

Finally, If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7 installed hold down the Control and Alt keys (or Shift + Ctrl keys in older versions). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. iTunes will only transfer them to your iPad, and once transferred to your iPad they cannot be imported to your other computer (only camera roll photos can). You will either have to use a usb flash drive or external drive to transfer them, or use an app like PhotoSync, which will transfer photos between your devices and computers over your wifi.
