Old computer died & I need to transfer songs on ipod to new

I had to reformat the hard drive of my computer because it stopped working. In doing so I lost everything including itunes. Now I want to add all 606 songs from my ipod back on the my newly installed itunes. How do I go about doing this.

Copy from iPod to PC
It is important not to allow your iPod to sync with an empty library. If it is set to synchronise automatically you will get a message saying your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to sync – it is important to press cancel as syncing with an empty library erases all music from your iPod.
You can also prevent auto sync by holding down shift & ctrl as you plug in your iPod and keeping the keys held down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Once you are connected, you need to set your iPod to manage music manually.

If you have an iPod with iTunes Store purchases on it, you can use it to copy your purchases to other authorized computers.

Old Hard drive crashed, need to transfer music from iPod to new computer

Hello. My old hard drive crashed and I bought a new computer. Unfortunately I did not back up any files from my old computer and lost all files including iTunes music. All I have is the music from my iPod. I would like some help or if anyone knows anything about how to transfer the music from my iPod to my new computer. I guess my new computer is not the original authentic one in the itunes system and will not let me exchange music from my iPod to new computer. I would appreciate help if anyone has ideas. Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

I have itunes installed on new laptop, and have checked "manually manage music"
so I don't lose my entire music library on my Ipod when it syncs. But now what?

I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

Bought new computer, Won't let me transfer songs from Ipod to new computer?

Is this possible? I have several hundred songs on my Ipod/other computer (desktop). I bought a new Dell laptop and I was hoping I could transfer all the songs on my new computer. It did let me transfer the songs that were purchsed through Itunes but not the others that I downloaded from CD's. When I connect the Ipod to the new computer it shows no songs on it.
Can I just connect my laptop to my desktop and tranfer songs or is there a way to trasfer the songs from the Ipod to the new laptop?

I need to switch iTunes from one PC to new PC. And, I tried to transfer songs from iPod to new PC Itunes but I could not make as it shows warning message from Itunes oat new PC.

My old computer's hard drive died. I am trying to hook my iPod up to my new computer to get my music onto the new computer's iTunes. The directions in the Applie help section don't work b/c they assume I can use my old computer to help with the transition. How do I do this without losing all my music?

Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), there's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer.
The above methods may depend on what version of iTunes you are running.
If none of these methods work, try CopyPod.

After my computer was restored I downloaded itunes and uploaded the purchased songs from my ipod to my itunes library. But it did not include all the other songs that originally came from my CDs. How do I upload all the songs on my ipod into itunes?

Computer crashed, have new one, need to transfer songs from ipod

My old computer completly crashed and it had all my itunes songs on it. I did not copy them to a CD or anything. I now can't turn the computer on or anything. I need to somehow transfer my songs from my ipod to the itunes on my new computer. The itunes on my new computer has nothing on it. When I plug my ipod into my computer, the ipod does not come up in itunes and itunes seems to freeze and doesn't work until i unplug the ipod. Yet the do not disconnect comes up on my ipod. I tried to use yamipod and sharepod but both of them could not find my ipod when it was plugged in, even when i had itunes up too. I have Windows Vista and the computer is a Dell Studio laptop. I do not know what to do, but I really need to get all my music on my computer. I have over 4,000 songs and can not afford to lose them. Please help!

I have an iPod nano and an iTouch. I used to buy songs off of my iTunes account on my iTouch, and would sync them onto my computer. I would then sync the songs on my computer onto my iPod. However, i got a new computer which complicates things. I thought that I would not have to save all my songs onto a thumbdrive on my old computer, because i would be using the same iTunes account; I thought iTunes would be able to pull up all my songs on my account onto the new computer. I then tried "transfering" my songs from my iPod onto my new computer, but it only pulled up about ten songs; most of the songs on my iPod were either from CDs or purchases on my iTouch. If your iPod is set to automatically update, when you connect you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual. Your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased when you connect to an empty iTunes after reinstalling your operating system.
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

It really annoys me how iTunes didn't give an option to sync the ipod to the computer, especially for situations like these. My music was all from CD's, so I'm not worried about that, but the apps. There are a number of 3rd party apps that can do this for you including iPodAgent for Windows, copypod, & transpod. You can find a lot of these apps at versiontracker.com.
