Old Computer died... syncing to new computer??

My laptop recently died and my iphone back up is unable to be recovered.
I want to sync my iphone to another computer but I don't want to lose all my contacts, messages (especially the messages)and music on my iphone!! (I will be devo if it's gone for good )
Is there a way to get all my information off my iphone before syncing it to the new computer? (please, please, please tell me there is??)
Thanking you in advance

By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you replaced your computer, your phone, will of course see your computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else:
http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
1. Disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected under preferences in itunes, which in windows is under the edit menu.
2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in whatever programs you use for that purpose on your computer. The entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
3. Connect your phone, itunes running, do not sync at this point.
4. Store>Authorize this computer.
5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
7. Right click again and select backup.
8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
That's as good as it gets without a backup of your itunes library and other important data..

The shuffle is not a backup device.
Was the media actually moved from the old computer to the new computer? If not, how did you magically make the content appear on the new system?
Use the backup of the old computer to put all the content on the new computer.

I deleted a large number of contacts on one iphone when i got a new one. icloud must have automatically synced to the old one, then synced my new one to that, thus deleting many contacts. can i restore them? can i retrieve a snapshot of my icloud as it existed yesterday?

When a device that is connected to an icloud account has it's contacts deleted, the same contacts at icloud.com are also deleted and then the changes propagate to other computers and devices also connected to the same icloud account.   In other words, the contacts are deleted everywhere.  Also, any iOS backup to icloud does not include contacts or any of the other Apple data, like calendars, reminders, etc.  The only way you can get that data back is if it was on a computer which has been frequently backed up.  You restore the data from the backup.  (This reference to "backup" is a local backup, it has nothing to do with icloud.)

  • How can I unsync my old iphone and sync my new iphone to my macbook

I'm trying to unsync my old iphone 3s (I think it's that) from itunes, I have looked at itunes to see if there is a symbol to unsync, but the directions I have followed seem to show a different itunes than the one I have, I've tried to update to the newest itunes but cannot and think this might be the problem. When I plug in my new iphone 4s there is no symbol to sync either. I've tried removing music, apps and photo's from the old iphone but this still did not unsync it, there was some remaining data left and I cannot find a symbol that would allow me to completely delete all information. Could you tell me how to sync my new iphone so that I can download apps and music from itunes? thanks.

You'll have to update to 10.6.8 first, then even further if you want all options.

  • Old laptop died, syncing an iPhone 4s to new laptop without losing data.

Hi, my laptop recently died, I have an iphone 4s thats about a month old and never made a backup to my external HD before the laptop broke. I have my music library saved to the external HD from a couple of months ago, but no back up of the phone itself. I don't want to lose things like my contacts, pictures and messages when synching to my new laptop- is there any way to avoid this happening? Would using the iCloud feature help to avoid this, as I am unsure if it will.
Also with the laptop breaking unexpectedly I didn't de-authorize the laptop for itunes, will this effect things?
    Thanks for any help.

Just because the laptop "died" does not mean the harddrive is dead.  Unless the harddrive actually failed, it should be possible to simply extract it and put it into a drive case to access the data.
Then the iTunes folder can be copied to the new system and salvage everything.
If that is not possible, contacts should be synced with a supported application on the computer or to a cloud service.  Unless you are solely dependent upon the iPhone for your contacts, they are not included in the backup.
All media and apps should be in your backup on your external drive, granted some will not be there.  If you are in the US, the music can be re-downloaded via iCloud.  Apps can always be re-downloaded at no additional cost.

  • Apparently my Mac is too old now to sync with newer products. How do upgrade the software/hardware so i can keep up to date. I love my mac and dont want to buy a new one. Is it possible?

Help! I am struggling and im really not a wizz with technology. I must have missed the morph into the new world! I have a macbook (i think!) and i found that im still running off the version 10.5.8. I have just plugged in my new ipad, and tried to get it synced with Itunes and it said i needed a newer version.
Am i able to upgrade to a newer version and if so, how do i do it...i really dont want to throw out this computer because it is awesome...can someone please help me?

To be able to connect with the devices that need a newer version of iTunes, you are first going to need to upgrade you OS X.  To do this from where you are at, first you need to make sure that your computer meets the minimum requirements for OS X Snow Leopard which you can find here http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575 and then after verifying that it can, you then need to order the Snow Leopard CD from Apple to do the upgrade.  You can purchase the CD from them for $19.99 and when it gets to your house, you can insert the CD in the drive and press the "C" key while booting your computer.  Then you'll get the install wizard from the CD which will give you directions you need to install Snow Leopard on your computer.  After getting that installed, make sure you update the software on your computer and it will get you what you need to be able to Sync your devices.  After you get Snow Leopard installed, if you wanted to go further you could then upgrade to 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion if your computer can handle those as well, and you can do that right from the App Store that will be available to you from Snow Leopard and you don't have to order a CD for those.

  • Backing up old iPhone and syncing with new iPhone 5 on a different account.

I recently purchased a new iPhone 5 on a straight talk account. I had an iPhone 4 on Verizon prior to now. My daughter and I have been sharing an iTunes account but this has caused us several problems receiving each other's texts and pictures and misc info. I signed up with a new iTunes account in an effort to avoid any future problems but I think I have created new problems. I have been trying to back up my old iPhone to the iTunes account and then sync it with the new phone. I was able to get my apps and music to appear on the new phone but my contacts and pictures didn't sync. I went into the iTunes program and marked the different things I wanted to sync. Still didn't work. Every time I run a sync with the new phone it acts like its a brand new phone and starts back at the programming stage with language and country option and then tells me to plug it into iTunes. Then the same process is repeated with the same result. Help. I just want to get my info off my old phone to my new phone and have a separate account from her. Also, I have an iMac and iPad. Please advise!

    Please help somebody!!

  • Old iphone contacts sync to new iPad 3?

Had iPhones up until a year ago, then spent a year w no iOS devices (!), now starting fresh w iPad 3. Wanting to sync all my old iPhone Contacts to iPad, anything I should know?

Before you connect your phone to iTunes make sure you go to iTunes preferences>Devices and check to "Prevent iPods, iPhones...from syncing automatically".  Now connect your phone to iTunes, click on your iphone name under Devices on the left sidebar, go to the Info tab and check to sync contacts with address book.  Make sure you have at least one contact entered your mac Address Book.  Now sync in iTunes and if asked select merge contacts.

  • Old iPod shuffle library to new PC?  iPod not in iTunes

Dear Forum members. My old PC died. The new PC sees the iPod Shuffle 2nd Generation on startup and it is in the "Computer" window. When iTunes starts up I get the error message "The iPod 'ts's iPod' is synched with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and synch with this iTunes library?" I want to keep the music on the shuffle if possible, but when I cick "Cancel" the iPod does not show up in iTunes and it's dropped from the "Computer" window. I can't follow Apple's instructions for transfering the music from the old computer to the new computer using the iPod as a disk since the old computer is fried. How can I get my new PC to see the library in my shuffle? Can I rescue the music on the shuffle and transfer it to my PC? I can't find an e-mail or phone number for customer support for Apple. Does such a thing exist?? Thanks for any and all input. Tom

  • How do i move ipod nano content to a new Windows computer?  My old computer died and when i try to sync to itunes on my new Windows computer, it says it will erase what's on the ipod.  I can't seem to de-authorize the old computer (it's been recycled).

Hi, I'm an ipod newbie, and unsure of what product i have-i believe it's an ipod nano, but can't seem to find any info on itunes that will identify my product.

  • I have just changed my computer as my old one died... but now cannot access my old itunes account so i have set up a new one with another email address. how can I sync my ipod to my new computer without wiping all my music ?

I have just tried to sync my ipod to a new computer as my old one died but as I cannot remember my previous log in I created a new itunes account. I now want to sync but it says it will wipe my music off my ipod. Does anyone know how I can do this now ?

If you have purchases on your iPod Shuffle that you want to sync back to iTunes, but are under the Apple ID you no longer have access to, you'll need to reset that account information. You can use this link to reset your password.
    https://iforgot.apple.com/
If that doesn' work or help, you'll need to contact iTunes support and have them walk you through the process of resetting the older account information.  Once you know the email and password again, you can authorize your new computer and transfer any purchases from this account back to iTunes.
For all non-iTunes purchased content, you'll need to the assistance of some sort of third party software that is not supported by Apple. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.
