I am looking to attach a web-cam immediately to my old Mac. It is a 1.25 GHZ PowerPCG4, with a 17inch swivel screen.
Do you know what ISight camera, if any, will work with this old piece of junk? I would appreciate any information you may have.

See if the info in these help you:

  • Sort of off topic, but same old question looking for a new answer

Ok I'm ready to start a new site. I'm going cheap as it's all coming out of my pocket including hosting. I want to put a video chat room on my site. Is there anyway to capture a webcam in this fashion in director. I've done tons of searching but I can't really find anything. I'm trying to avoid using the flash communication server for three reasons. 1) I already have the director multiuser server that will host up to 1000 users (the room will never be anything close to that big 50 peeps tops) and my web host will support it and install it for me. 2) I can't find anything at a really cheap price. I'm looking at 25 cam users at once... 3) Actionscript is nothing I've every really worked with before, but I could do the lingo programming.
I have a few questions First of all I read something about putting a flash element on the stage, and that the flash player is what captures the webcam. But I assume that it still needs flash communication sever to upload the video. Is this correct?
Is there an xtra that will do what I  want?
I read something about encoding the video to realvideo, but I have no clue how as I've never done anything like that before. Will this work and do you know of a tutorial for this?
Do you know of a really really cheap flash comm host?
Really off topic but, I could write the text chat end of it in cold fusion. Is there a known way to easily add the video in this way?
Does anyone know of a cheap off the shelf video chat room that I can put up on my site and just pay for the bandwidth overage that it uses?
Thanks for any help any of you could give me.

There are several 2.4 GHz MacBook pros shipped over several years.
If this is your Mac (2007 model) scroll down to the memory section and read:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/stats/macbook-pro-core-2-duo-2 .4-15-santa-rosa-specs.html
    Standard RAM:
    2 GB
    Maximum RAM:
    6 GB*
    Details:
2 GB installed as two 1 GB modules. No slots free.
*Apple officially supports a maximum of 4 GB of RAM but third-parties have been able to upgrade the system to 6 GB of RAM using one 2 GB and one 4 GB memory module.
Site sponsor Other World Computing sells MacBook Pro memory, as well as hard drives, batteries, carrying cases, and accessories.
... and that sponsor is not a bad place to get RAM at all. They are experts, and back it up with a "money back if it does not work in your Mac" guarantee.

  • Looking for webcam - HD w/ encoder and swivel, aro...

I'm looking to purchase a webcam, and am having a hard time finding one that fits all my needs.  I need one that:
    - Is HD (720p is fine)
    - Has a HD encoder (Machine is Pentium 4 3.0GHz, don't want it lowering quality or running at 100pct cpu usage)
    - Can swivel somewhat.  Doesn't need to be 360, but want it to be able to swivel up/down/left/right a bit.
I was considering the Logitech C510 or C525, however Logitech's technical specifications say that full HD quality requires a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, which is significantly faster than my machine.
The Logitech C905/910 doesn't have a hardware encoder either.
The new Logitech B990 has a hardware encoder, but it's around $115 which is out of my price range.
The FaceVsion TouchCam V1 is only $50, which is great, but doesn't appear to swivel left/right at all
The Freetalk Everyman HD doesn't appear to swivel left/right, either.
Am I missing a webcam -- or if I want built-in encoding, do I lose the ability to swivel?

Did you find one that works?  My parents have that machine (Pentium 4, 3.0ghz), and I'd like to know that something (anything) would work before trying to get them on it.
The closest that you could come to your wish-list would be the HP HD 5210, which has H.264 encoding, swivel and costs ~$75.  The Logitech C920 costs about $10 more, but doesn't swivel.
No clue if it "won't put a strain on your computer", since, well, no offense but your computer is ancient and should probably be put out to pasture one of these days.  *If* it can make the jump from 640x480 up to 720p you'd probably be ok (my CPU usage went from ~65% @640 down to ~25% at 720p), but if it works at all I'd be pretty surprised.  Let me know what you're able to find out?

  • Need a computer optimized for webcam

I am trying to buy a computer that will function well in Kenya for mostly webcam type operation like Skype, Yahoo IM, etc.  I am on a limited budget and would like to be able to get two systems for under $400 each.  Laptop would be best but I would consider a desktop that was small (footprint).  Any suggestions?  If a desktop I'd need that $400 to include the flat screen monitor too.  There are several Compaq laptops from $329 to $398  No built in cams but I will have to buy one anyway.  When optimizing video (webcam) function for a relatively slow internet connection, what is most important.  CPU speed, RAM, Other?  Thanks.

Ok thanks for the advice...so if I have a choice between these two, which way would you guys go:
HP Pavilion Slimline s5120f Desktop PC - Refurbished

    AMD Athlon X2 7750 Dual-Core Processor (2.7GHz, 1MB L2 cache + 2MB shared L3 cache)

    4096MB DDR2 SDRAM
    500GB 7200rpm SATA hard drive
SuperMulti DVD burner with LightScribe technology
    or...
Compaq - Presario Laptop with Intel® Celeron® Processor - Black
    ENERGY STAR Qualified
    Intel® Celeron® processor 900; 2GB DDR2 memory; 6-cell lithium-ion battery; DL DVD±RW/CD-RW drive; LightScribe; 15.6" widescreen; 160GB hard drive; Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

  • Old Topic, looking for newer answers....iMac (Late 08 model) shuts off

Hi all, I've posted this topic before but became really busy and was unable to troubleshoot this problem to the fullest. Long and short is that my iMac decides to shut off on it's own. I've ran the hardware test months ago with the code saying that the temperature control was messed up. I've since taken my iMac to an Apple service center where they have changed the display and the power source and I'm still having problems. I've surpassed the Apple warranty and was dumb enough to not get the AppleCare for this system.
A little more details, temperatures of core components (the ones that iStat Pro would show) seem to be normal. Nothing is over 120 F yet my CPU fan is spinning at nearly 4k rpm. For whatever reason, when this fan kicks in, the computer likes to shut off, even if temps aren't that high. Has anyone else experienced this? I know I'm going to either have get a new computer or face the bill for repair, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Lastly, I've tried running the Hardware test before posting this and the dang test won't launch. I'm losing too much hair people, please help!

Ok, figured out the hardware code, it is: 4SNS/1/40000000: TpOP-131.000. Any takers?

  • Old issue, looking for simpler solution

This is about the familiar, "I-had-my-logic-board-replaced-and-now-Time-Machine-is-confused" issue that has been covered in older posts. Forgive me if this seems redundant. Before I proceed with the solution described here:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080128003716101
I was curious if someone here or even Apple (what a concept) has come up with a more "elegant" solution that allows one to continue using the "pre-logic board replacement" back-ups. Posters here and on MacOSX Hints have explained very concisely the cause of the problem, so the underlying cause is clear to me. I'm just a nervous about making a typo in the Terminal that will rear it's ugly head down the road. I looked around for an Applescript or utility that might do the voodoo for me, but came up empty.
    TIA

  • Backing up ipad/iphone to new computer.  Have old computer backup files.

I have a new computer and want to backup my ipad and iphone to the new computer without losing data and settings.  I have complete backup files from the old computer including the previous ipad and iphone syncs.  I have set up itunes on the new computer and transferred over my music.  Can I transfer over the mobile device backup files to the new computer so the sync on the new computer is as if I am to syncing to the old computer?

    Thanks for the info.
I have 2 files from from old computer (one for iphone and one for ipad) from the folder callled:  users\xxx\appdata\roaming\applecomputer\roaming\mobilesync\backup\.  If I just copy those over to the new computer and put them in the same subdirectory will the ipad/iphone recognize these when I try to sync?
I also have the old itunes subfolder called Mobile Applications and am wondering if I just copy that over to the new itunes subfolder called itunes\media whether it will automatically be recognized?  Note: I am able to access the backup but unable to do anything in itunes in the old computer (such as consolidating or merging files)
Are these all of the files associated with the ipad/ipod backup that would have been stored on the old computer?

  • Help. Stolen Old Computer, need to transfer to new computer!

I cannot get my library from my old computer to my new computer. My old account says:
"One computer is authorized to play music from Itunes, blah, blah."
How do I change it. My old computer was stolen. It's gone. I need to transfer ALL the music I have on my Ipod into a library on my new computer. Some downloaded or bought from Itunes, some copied from my CD library.
How do I do it? All the help crap starts with "access your old library from your old computer" Impossible for me.
Everything is still on my Ipod. It seems I should be able to just transfer it. ESPECIALLY the stuff I BOUGHT from Itunes.
    Thansk Tamts

Choose Authorize Computer from the Store menu in iTunes, provide the username and password associated with the iTunes Store account used to purchase that music, connect the iPod to your computer, and choose Transfer Purchases in the dialog box that appears. This method only works with content from the iTunes Store.

  • Transfering Music from old computer to new MBP laptop HELP!

I nees to transfer ALL of my iTunes music to my new MBP, can I just put all of my music onto a flash drive and then deauthorize that computer, then put songs from flashdrive on the MBP and authorize that computer? If I do this will my music still be organized like it was on my ild PC? Like album name, artist, title, etc? Answer ASAP please and thanks in advance!

Okay. What do you want from this process? Do you want iTunes to appear exactly as it did on your old computer?  The way I have described several times before tells you how to do this.  Copy the WHOLE ITUNES FOLDER from your Finder (you do not say what source computer) or Windows browser or whatever, to the flash drive.  Drag it from the flash drive to your new computer and replace the iTunes folder on the new computer (I presume you have nothing in it now).  Start iTunes and everything will appear identical to your old computer.  Playlists, artwork, everything.  Three major steps. Drag, (move flash drive to other computer), drag, open iTunes.
The video tells you in a somewhat long-winded (and in my opinion not necessarily best) way to end up copying just your media files to a flash drive.  It then adds them all back into iTunes where if all works well iTunes will end up processing them as though it has never seen them before. If that's what you want, fine, because that's what it does.  If the tags are correct on the files you will see the names, etc., but with the qualifiers I mentioned before.  You say you want them organized like they were on the old computer.  For most people this means ratings and playcounts and playlists.  That is not what you will get if you drag just media from drive to drive via the flash drive.  You will only accomplish that using the whole folder method I have described.  If you do not want your old playlists well, I guess you can do the video method, but even then my method is easier and you can always delete unwanted playlists.
The video method is essentially the same process if the source computer is a Mac, again if your goals is to start over with a fresh library but your old media files.

  • IPhone says it's looking for my old dead computer when trying to sync to new computer. How do I get my phone to recognize my new computer?

My old computer died, long live the computer! Thought I'd be slick and sync my iphone with all 2000+ songs to my new computer. Loaded up iTunes, no problem, downloaded all the songs I've purchased, but when it came to syncing, it said the phone was looking for my old computer. How do I get the phone to recognize the new computer?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • IMovie 11 freezing looking for old (trashed) computer doing iphoto import?

Odd problem with my new iMovie. When I try to run it and it goes through the update of files from iPhoto, it freezes and says that the network connection with an old desktop computer we used to have is broken. Then it just reappears and will never complete the iphoto transfer. I have changed iphoto libraries to a new one and that solved the problem, but we have a ton of movies in our iphoto library that I need in imovie. Does anyone know how to disassociate iphoto library from an old computer? In iphoto there are no issues with looking for the old computer, and I don't think we ever had them synced to begin with. Any help is appreciated.

    Hello,
I have the same problem on my mid 2012 MBP retina 15 inch. For example, when i am importing from facetime in final cut, sometimes it records in 720HD @ 24fps, and sometimes in non-HD @ 17fps.
Everything is up to date, i have tried recording from photobooth and quicktime, and the issue remains the same.

  • HT1386 I had to change the computer I have iTunes installed on, my iPhone is still looking for the old computer to sync over WiFi.  How do I change the WiFi computer associated to my iPhone?

I had to change the computer I have iTunes installed on, my iPhone is still looking for the old computer to sync over WiFi.  How do I change the WiFi computer associated to my iPhone?

    Hi Terri571,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
See these steps for setting up Wi-Fi syncing between your iPhone and new computer:
    iOS: Syncing with iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1386
    Wi-Fi syncing
    Open iTunes
To set up Wi-Fi syncing, connect your iOS device to your computer with the included USB cable. Select your device under Devices on the left-hand side.
In the Summary tab, select "Sync with this [device] over Wi-Fi".
Whenever the computer and the iOS device are on the same network, the iOS device will appear in iTunes, and you can sync it. The iOS device will sync automatically when all of the following are true:
The iOS device is plugged in to power
iTunes is open on the computer
The iOS device and the computer are on the same Wi-Fi network
While the iOS device appears in the left-hand column of iTunes, you can select the content tabs and configure sync options.
Click Apply or Sync to sync the iOS device.
If the iOS device does not appear in the Devices section or you are unable to sync, please see this article for troubleshooting.
    Best,
    Jeremy
