Old Computer whent bad how do I deauthorize it?

All right I live in more than one place to start off with so I have 2 computer two start with that I authorize to play and down load music + a laptop. Well I had a hard drive go bad on one computer and then my Step father decied to reload the pc thats at the other house. So in both cases I was not able to unauthorize those computers b4 they where redone. Now I'm at my limit and SOL if this happens again being at the max amout of computer that I can authorize is there a way to fix this?

MerlinBlade,
No more than once a year you can deauthorize all the computers that are associated with your iTunes Store account and start over again. Have a look at the last part of this article in the Apple Knowledge Base

As far as I know you don't need to turn off home sharing as such, however you will have lost one of the 5 "authorizations". You can't release these individually unless you are running iTunes on the authorized operating system you want to deauthorize.
You will have to wait until you have 5 authorizations, at which point you can clear them all and start over, reauthorizing the machines you want to.

Restore the backup of your old computer to your new Mac.

  • My old computer has died, how can i get all my tunes on to my new computer and ipod?

My old computer died and i can't get access to itunes on it. how can i get itunes on my new computer without wiping my ipod and having to start again from scratch?

If the computer isn't functioning because of a operating system issue, but the computer itself still works, then it's possible to boot from a operating system on a cd or USB stick and transfer the files.
If the boot drive physically works (and it hasn't been encrypted), the files can be removed if the computer doesn't work as well. (more on that later as it costs more money)
For the first option your going to need to create a bootable USB or CD. I'm going to go with the easiest, a 2-4 GB USB thumb drive (nothing else on it of course)
Visit this page and download the Easy USB Installer for Windows.
    http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/
Now from the first menu there you select Ubuntu 10.10 and check the box to download the ISO of Ubuntu Linux. Wait for it to finish.
Now #2 browse to the ISO you just downloaded.
Now #3 you select the EXACT drive letter of the USB (look under My Computer/Computer)
Leave "show all drives" and "persistence" alone. Check "format drive" (be sure the drive letter is correct!)
    Click "Create"
Once you got that done, stick the USB in the back of the computer (if a tower) and hook up a external USB hard drive. (nothing else on it.)
Now you need to find the BIO's boot key for your problem computer, DELL it's F2 to enter the BIO's (list at link)
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/a/biosaccess_pc.htm
Navigate around in there and set the USB as the first boot option (or cd if you got a boot cd). Save the option.
Reboot the computer and it should boot off the USB. "Try Ubuntu/run from USB/CD"  Don't install.
Once your in Ubuntu, you can easily go to the Places Menu and Select Computer, see all the drives and access your ENTIRE iTunes folder. Transfer this entire folder to the external USB drive.
Also you can grab your pictures and anyrthing else while your in there.
Now the second option is potentially destructive, if the computer doesn't work at all mechanically. Disconnect any power from the computer. Then you can remove the internal hard drive, use a powered IDE/SATA to USB adapter and plug it right into your new computer just like a external drive. However I would do a malware scan first.
Lastly if you got your iTunes Folder onto the new computer (replacing the new iTunes folder with the old). You need to open the XML file in a Text program that has "Find and Replace" ability. So you can correctly fix the partial pathnames from the old computer to the new computer.
This little step preserves all your playlists.
Once you got your content over, you should File > Backup Library to disk and feed it DVD-R's or use a external drive.
As you know, the iPod only sync's content one way, to the iPod.  (exception for iTMS bought stuff on the iPod can be synced back into iTunes with the correct account enabled.)  You might need to check iLounge for current third party software that reverses all content form a iPod back into iTunes.
Finally if this is all above your head, have a professional do it for you. Apple will not re-issue downloads, backing up is your responsibility.
    Hope that helps.

  • Old Computer crash. How can I transfer my music  from Ipod to new Computer?

Lightning struck my old computer, how can I transfer my music from the Ipod to the new computer (Windows XP) Itunes library?

You don't need to buy anything from the spammers that infect these forums. There are plenty of free options.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

Did you restore your old iTunes library to the new machine from the backup of your old machine? It doesn't just magically come back on its own.
...how can i get it to transfer everything on my iphone into the new library.
This question is asked several times a day. Please use the search function at the top of the page or see "More Like This" to the right. ==============================================>
The iPhone is NOT a backup device.

  • My authorized computer crashed. How can I deauthorize it?

One of my authorized computers crashed and can't be repaired. How do I deauthorize it?

You should be able to get on iTunes from the computer that works and it will show how many computers are authorized.  Since it doesn't show which one is which to individually pick one you will have to Deauthoize both (all) of them, then authorize the one(s) that works again.  It should then show only one authoized. (or how ever many computers left that are working).  If later you get another computer you just get on it (on Itunes after installing it) and authorize it.
My son's hard drive on his lap top had died and had to be replaced...so when he authorized it, mine showed three computers authorized.  I had to Deauthorize all three and start over, authorizing mine first then his. Now it just shows two authorized.

  • HT1329 My old computer crashed.  How do I sync my Shuffle with my new laptop?

My old laptop crashed -- it does not boot up and the monitor is blank.  I bought a new laptop with Windows 8, downloaded iTunes and connected my ipod nano.  How do I get them to sync?  All of the music on the nano is downloaded from cds (not purchased from itunes store) and I did not have cloud service.  The instructions online all say I have to make changes to the nano using my old computer, but that's no longer an option.  Any advice?

It does not matter what the settings are for your iPod.  iTunes syncing generally works in one direction only, from iTunes library to iPod.  You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to your new iTunes library

  • My old computer got stolen, how can I sync to a new itunes without losing all my contacts, and other stuff?

So my old windows computer that my iphone was sync to got stolen, I bought a new MacBook Pro and it asking me to erase and sync What can I do to keep all my contacts, photos, and other data and sync my iphone then restore all my data? or anything similar you might think that could help. Please any information or tips will be helpful!

The right way is to restore the backup that you kept of your old computer onto your new one. If it is too late for that before you do anything set up a backup process for the new one so when it crashes (note I said "when", not "if") you won't be faced with this problem again.
In lieu of that the apps already mentioned will help you get content off the phone if it was not purchased from iTunes. But it it WAS purchased from iTunes just connect the phone to your new computer, Authorize iTunes on the new computer and choose "Transfer Purchases" from the iTunes file menu.
