Old computer with iTunes got hacked, now iPod needs "restore"...HELP!!!
I have an 80G iPod video, and had about 3800 songs on there. I had everything backed up on iTunes, but the computer got hacked and permanently shut down. I figured, okay, I just won't ever add anything to my iPod again, because I don't want to connect it to a new computer and lose all of my songs. I could live with those songs for a while.
Well, the other night my iPod froze, and when I tried to reset it, it popped up with a message that said "Please connect to iTunes to restore." And won't let me do anything. I've reset it a bunch of times before, but I've never seen this message before.
My main concern is losing 8 years worth of music. Is there ANY way to connect this iPod to a computer and save all of my music?
Thanks,
kirstin
Sounds to me like you mistakenly thought that the iPod would transfer its contents back to your iTunes library on your new computer.
This is not the case. iTunes --> iPod was specifically designed as a one way transfer.
It sounds like you've replaced the contents of your iPod with the contents of your new (nearly empty) iTunes library.
If this is the case, then your songs are gone. No way around that unless you can get access to your old dead computer and bring it back to life.
Seems Apple doesn't want me calling them, because I can find no number anywhere.
The contact information for Apple is on this page:
http://www.apple.com/contact/
I don't think they will be of any help with this, but you could always call them anyway. Since your iPod is most likely out of warranty, there will probable be a fee to talk to technical support about your problem.

My old computer with itunes no longer works. If I hook my ipod to my new computer will I lose the songs that are on it now?
Yes, you will.
Do you have the songs still?
You could add them to your new library if you do. -
I was hoping i could just sign in on my new one and get all the songs to it with out redownloading them.
It is a reasonable question - we increasingly see the ability to access "my data" through the cloud rather than relying on local storage. In the case of iTunes:
You can, in most cases, access and re-download previous iTunes Store purchases
If you subscribe to iTunes Match, your complete library - within the 25,000 song limit imposed by the service - will be available to you,
That being said, the most complete and reliable method is still to copy your complete library (database, media, artwork, ...) from the older computer to the new one. If you've configured iTunes so that all your music, etc., is stored within the iTunes Media folders then you can just copy the C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes folder and all its contents from the old computer to the corresponding location on the new one. Depending on the size of your library you can copy it across a network, using a thumb drive or an external (USB) hard drive.
If you have media stored elsewhere on the old computer the process is a little more complex. -
my ipod got disabled and it says to connect it to itunes but the computer i use got reset so it lost all the memory of itunes and i re downloaded it and it says it cant connect my ipod to itunes because i need to put the pass code in on the ipod but it wont let me because its disable some one help me out.
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

For how to restore:
iTunes: Restoring iOS software
To restore from backup see:
iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:

Removed everything to do with itunes..reinstalled now ipod wont work
Well from the new itunes and it having difficulty recognising the itouch i decided to uninstall it and install 7.5 again. So i then removed everything to do with itunes on my computer, then i installed 7.5, now it claims i dont have the required software to use an ipod?
So how do i fix this, i have tried multiple things? The iPod touch requires iTunes 7.6. (http://www.apple.com/au/ipodtouch/specs.html)
iTunes 7.6 can be downloaded from here: www.apple.com/itunes/download -
Tried to Update but now iPod needs restore.. but it won't restore!!
I connected my iPod touch 2G to my mac to add Monopoly on. When I initially connected the iPod, iTunes prompted me to update my iPod software. I duly downloaded this. When it tried to install it got almost to the end and then gave me an unknown error. I tried to do the install again but it said my iPod needed to be restored... great, but everything is backed up so not too much of an issue. Click 'restore', again, almost gets to the end of the process then gives an error (14, I think?)
I have tried also to reset my iPod but to no avail, when it switches on it just gives me the screen saying it's connected to iTunes via USB
What can I do? Is there any other way to restore the iPod without using iTunes? Couldn't find anything on the support page for if the reset or restore didn't workThank you for the response.
At this time if the iPod Touch is still within warranty you may wish to book an appointment at your local Apple Retail Store for further assistance and service exchange options.
You can also contact your local iPod Touch Technical Support group for further assistance.
If you purchased your iPod for another store other then Apple you may wish to also check with them for exchange assistance as well. -
Charging on computer without itunes...now frozen...help
I'm travelling away from home and needed to charge my itouch (2nd generation) and have a friends laptop that I plugged into the usb and it looks to be searching for Itunes but their laptop doesn't have it. Now...all I get on the face of my Itouch is the USB Cable going into itunes symbol. Is there anything I can do to get my Itouch back. Still have 4 days left of vacation! Thanks for any assistance you may be able to give!!
Try to reset your iPod. Hold down the sleep and home buttons for at least 10 seconds, ignore the slider to turn it off, let go when you see the Apple logo.

ITunes doesn't recognise iPod after restore: help please?
I've just restored, done the connect to power instead of pc (windows based), is reconnected to usb 2 port, but iTunes isn't showing any screen to resetup my iPod, and iPod saying "do not disconnect". What now? Could it be automatically updating without showing in iTunes? This all came about when I tried to do an update of software, which after download & updating pc, only showed "restore" in the iPod updater window.

Don't have access to my old computer with original itunes on.
Hi all
I recently requested my 4s to be unlocked by my network provider, they did this and advised I needed to connect to itunes to complete the unlocking.
The problem is I can't do this as I no longer have access to the old computer with itunes on, is there anyway round this?
Thanks in advance
DarrenCompleteling the unlock process requires restoring the device via iTunes on the computer.

I want to use an old 3 GS iPhone that is no longer in service as a phone now as just an iPod to play music. When I connect the phone to the computer with iTunes running, iTunes says it can't connect to the device because it didn't get a valid response from the device. How can I get the system to recognize the phone, and let me rename it as my iPod, instead of my phone?
As an aside, the current installed operating system on this old iPhone is 4.2.1, but that wasn't one of the selectable options in the operating system list dropdown below. Don't know if that makes any difference.Hi maddogdne,

Just got a new computer and none of the music from my old computer's itunes transfered when I transfered the contents of the old hard drive. Now I'm trying to transfer music from my ipod and can't get all the files....help please?
The iphone is not a storage/backup device.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.
Have you failed to do this?
If so, not good, then you can transfer itunes purchases: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
You may be able to purchase a third partyn program to get the rest ( not supported by Apple) -
My old computer had itunes and downloaded songs that I put on my ipod. Well, my old computer got replaced years ago without saving hard drive info or passwords and my iPod burnt out years ago and will not activate. I now have a new computer and iPod and I have an iTunes account on my iPhone5. How can I get access to my old songs on new computer? Are they lost for good? I have no info about my old computer and old account.
