Old Dial up Internet

Best advice i can offer: follow the steps presented in this thread:https://forums.att.com/t5/Internet-Billing/I-cannot-get-ATT-to-cancel-my-old-Dial-Up-service/m-p/4248104

I have had this service fit a long time. I get billed $25.95 every month for Internet service. My email is ***@att.net. I received an email from Dial Up services stating that I could disconnect the Internet service but would still have access to my email account with no change but would have to access it at att.com. Please advise how to solve this service. I will call my bank to stop payment on this monthly charge if I can't resolve through ATT support. I retired from ATT after 40 years and know the business. Thank you in advance.

  • Keychain Access and dial-up Internet connection problem

For the past two days I was unable to connect to my dial-up Internet on my Sawtooth. It's got 10.4.11. The Internet phone connections checked out fine. I even tried my old Dell and it got on the Internet ok.
I checked the Internet settings and thought they were ok. My Internet provider's website help section on set-up is worthless for Mac OS X. They only show instructions for OS 8 & 9!! Found some other dial up providers set-ups and went by them.
After trying to get the settings correct, right before I tried to connect to the 'net, a dialog box called "Confirm Access to Keychain" always came up. The box said: "pppd wants permission to use the "PPP Password" item from your keychain. Do you want to allow this? Deny, Allow Once, or Always Allow?" I had read on the Mac OS X help that allowing the keychain always permission to access to use passwords when going online isn't a good idea... I always kept clicking "Deny" and I couldn't connect. Just got brave a bit ago, and clicked on "Allow Once" and here I am on the Internet!!! This keychain business was the problem the whole time!
My question is how in the world did the Keychain get involved, as I didn't even ask it to save the Internet password etc. The Keychain shows PPP password listed three times and I believe a Dashboard certificate. Would it be ok to delete the three PPP password listed? Was going to, but was afraid I'd really mess up Tiger... I don't want to mess with Keychain at all, since I've read in the past that it can really cause headaches if not used correctly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Yes, you can delete those PPP entries if you don't mind entering the Password each time you connect, though I'm on dial-up & have Always Allow checked without problems or a decade or so.

  • How do I erase an old dial up connection?

I am trying to delete an old dial up connection that keeps populating. I am unable to use my new internet service provider due to the pop up question populating asking me if that is how I am getting on the internet. I called my provider and they told me I needed to delete that dial up connection but they were unfamilar as to how to do it due to me being with mozilla firefox and not internet explorer.

OMG! Thank you so much ... The tech Support group was making this seem like a huge problem and you just solved it in a second.. Thanks
I see that it didnt matter if I had Mozilla firefox or not. Thanks once again!

remote dial up internet, is old traditional internet where you use a 56 k modem. and you can dial up from anywhere that you are at to get email and view webpages.
you would have to call into verizon to have it cancelled.   8005676789

  • Cannot connect PowerBook G4 to DIAL-UP internet connection

I have a G4 PowerBook (the very last of the series made) but I cannot get a dial-up internet or e-mail connection. It is so long ago that I used dial-up that I have forgotten the intricacies. Also how do I know WHICH of the several Apple Internal Modems listed, is the one I have in my G4. The names on ABOUT THIS MAC do not correspond with the list I am presented with when I am trying to put in the correct information.
I have never used this G4 for dial-up and am starting to think that perhaps the internal modem is faulty. How can I check if the modem is still functioning properly, please?

Thank you so much for your detailed response. I, too, many years ago used to have Fax STF, though on a separate disc. Even if I had not mislaid the disc (which probably would not now work with OS 10.4.11) surely it would need my internet provider's settings? When I phoned Calcutta on Friday, the lady I spoke to changed some of these, and I am now at sea without them and cannot even get as far as hearing the usual screeching noises.
I did note this recently from an internet site:
With a suitable terminal emulator (something like ZTerm), you should be able to send AT commands directly to the modem. If you type AT followed by Return, the modem should return an OK. Then try ATI (or ATI1, ATI2, ATI3 et cetera) followed by Return; the modem should respond with technical information. If one writes ATDTxxxxxxx (where xxxxxxx is a telephone number) followed by Return, the modem should dial the number (if you have two phone lines, you could check whether the other phone rings).
I now have the promise of another Calcutta helper that she will phone me this evening. The whole object of the exercise is that I will be able to take my second Mac to my husband's house and get a dial-up only connection there which will be better than nothing. He has vascular dementia and it would be good to have an internet connection. I already have Virgin broadband in MY house and do not want to take out two subscriptions if I can avoid it. I have had a longstanding BT dial-up address (all e-mails to which get re-routed automatically to Virgin) but BT require you to make one or two uses of the address every year to keep it alive.
I have grown so accustomed to the glories of Wi-fi broadband, I had forgotten how fiddly old dial-up systems were. I tried mobile dial-up at my husband's with "3", but his house fell into an area of no reception. I even went out into the open air in his square with the PowerBook and dongle to no avail.

  • Dial Up Internet Help!

I seriously hope someone can help me, I'm getting very frustrated. Until 3 weeks ago I was sharing a dial up internet connection (I know but I am rural and it's all that is available, I literally have no other option) printer etc on up to three computers. Desktop running XP and two laptops also running XP. Then out of the blue I lost my wireless signal. My router is a WRT54G. I have literally tried everything. I updated the firmware, the router is working fine it shows up on each computer but they will not communicate. The two laptops see each other but the desktop doesn't see either of them. I know that it has something to do with sharing the internet connection but I don't know what I need to change to get it back. I have literally asked everyone I know, I have searched and searched, I have had two people in the field and they can't figure it out but I KNOW this works I have done it for over 2 years with no problems at all.
I have even tried a new router but that isn't the problem, all the cables work, everything is working except it won't share.
Please someone help! Thanks in advance!

    hi ,
access the setup page of the router using http://192.168.1.1 "admin" is the password....go to the wireless section and then to advanced wireless settings.....
turn "off" the AP isolation...reduce the Beacon interval to 50 and reduc the RTS and fragmentation threshold by 40 each....
let me know if this works.

  • "Call back" dial up internet? Help!

Hello and help! I'm in Ukraine trying to use dial up internet in my apartment. Dial up in Ukraine is done by buying a card that provides you with a pin code that you use to make an account with a third party provider. The time you spend on the itnernet is "pre paid" in essence and when you run out of time
you buy a new card and scratch off a new code.
There are two ways to connect. The first is to dial straight into their server from your computer/phone line (which means you have to pay for the phone time since you're the one who dialed out and this can get expensive). The second option is called "call back." "Call back" meands my computer dials the company then the company dials me right back with an internet connection that I start using. I have been trying to get call back set up for days and
    have not succeeded. HELP!
The name of the service I am using is called Superweb (ww.superweb.com.ua/eng). I am trying to dial the 251 1212 number. I am using pulse setting. The error message I'm getting is "Could not negotiate a connection with the remote PPP server. Please verify your settings and try again."
The directions which the company normall gives to PC users are to go into "network" settings, go to "advanced", then "dial up preferences," check off "callback" and then type in the number (not sure if they mean the number I'm calling 215 1212 or my land line number but easy enough to try both).
Please, please help me solve this. Where is the call back option on a mac?
Thanks. I can't wait to hear from you.
More technical details: I have the first generation of the white 12 inch iBooks. I am running Tiger (no updates just original version).

  • Using the mac mini with a dial up internet connection

How do I go about using my mac mini with a dial up internet connection? I am soon to be moving to a rural area and dial up will be my only internet option. Please be very specific in your answer as I am not a very tech savvy fellow. Thank you for your help.

The last time I needed to use dial up I used this amazing device from actiontec:
    http://shopping.netsuite.com/s.nl/c.ACCT122499/it.A/id.72/.f
Very hard to find one now, but it has the advantage that it connects to the ethernet ports of up to two computers, rather than using a less reliable usb connection.

  • If I own Photoshop Elements 5.0 on an old computer without internet access, how do I open the image

If I have Photoshop Elements 5.0 on an old computer without internet access, how can I open the image I created so I can print it?  The new computer with internet is not the one I have registered the Photoshop product.
    Thanks.
    Eddie

    Hi eddie
If you saved the image on the old computer as a project or a PSD file it will only open in Elements. The best thing to do is make another copy and then transfer it to the flash drive.
If you open the saved collage in the PSE5 Editor you can click the top menu Layer à Flatten Image
Then click File à Save As and choose jpeg.
Copy the jpeg to the flash drive and then plug it into the new computer and drag the jpeg collage to Pictures or another folder.

  • Downloading Firefox 4.0 using dial-up internet service

I want to upgrade to Firefox 4.0. I have Earthlink dial-up internet service. Is it possible to download the program and if so how long do you think it would take. Mostly I download programs from discs; it is too difficult to maintain an open internet connection long enough to download a large program. I can't even open a file of photos if someone sends me more than one or two at a time.
    Thanks for your help.

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.

  • Itunes disconnects dial up internet when a cd is inserted

    Hi All,
I'm using the new USB modem on an IMAC with 10.4.3. I keep having problems with Itunes disconnecting my dial up internet connection. I connect to the Internet, open Itunes, insert a CD and almost all the time, my internet connection will disconnect. I've tried only inserting the CD, letting Itunes open and then connecting to the internet, but then when I want to put in another CD, the internet will disconnect.
If I don't put a CD in, then the Internet will stay connected for as long as I want it to.
Thanks in advance to those who help me.
IMAC 20" Isight built in   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Best guess--when you insert the CD iTunes queries the Gracenote CDDB (via your internet connection) in order to show the track names, and for some reason this query is causing your connection to disconnect.
Unfortunately there is no longer any preference to tell iTunes you don't want it to do this--it's automatic behavior, I think.
The only solution that occurs to me is to take the time out to import your CDs so you can play them directly from iTunes without inserting the actual CD.

  • Controlling dial up internet via a networked PC

    I have a doozy of a question.
My dad needs a new computer at his office, and he wants a mac. yay! and we're about to get a mini tomorrow, but....
The only catch is, can someone else who is using a windows XP machine share his dial-up internet?
If this is possible, can that person also control the connection?
The situation is that the person who uses the internet the most is in another room, and my dad's computer is the one with the modem.
If it's not possible for XP to control the dial up connection on a mac, is it possible for a mac to control the internet connection on XP? (this way, we can just give the other person a modem and my dad can control it)
See what I need... can it be done? With XP it's a snap (just tick off "Allow other users to control this connection", but is it that simple in OS X?

I do have a contract with T-Moble which includes a web bundle.
I tried again last night with the process you've described: When pairing it with the MDA Vario, using 'select device type', the Mac will not discover the MDA, but it will if I repeat the search for it as a device, (presumably because it is a pda).
Once selected, I can enter the code onto the MDA when prompted as descibed, and dial-up networking is an option that I can select.
On the subsequent page I can the configure the username and password, but not the Modem script. This gives me the drop down list that i'd referred to before; it lists manufacturers like sony ericcson, nokia, motorola among others, plus options for apple, but none for MDA.
I've tried a variety of the apple options from the list, and then attempted to connect using the phone icon which has been installed to the toolbar at the head of the screen, but receive an error message to say that the connection has failed when I do.
Have tried looking through the connection and syncing options on the MDA with no joy either.
