Old DOS Game file locked in Trash & on Desktop, can't remove

I recently used an old flash drive that had a ancient DOS game of Mahjong on it. I moved the game to trash and when emptying the Trash, four Tile (.Tis) files from the Mahjong game somehow got locked and, apparently, can't be removed. I dragged one on to the Desktop to attempt another Trash and it stays on the Desktop declaring it is locked and can't be removed.
Any suggestions?

I didn't have the 'Stationery Pad" box on the file I looked at to check the Get Info choices. But after you mentioned it, I had it on a different file I looked at. Being the curious sort, I had to look it up in the Help menu for OS X.

Even the explanation seems a bit confusing. If you edit the copy and save it, where does the saved file go since the original file remains untouched? Seems like a rather useless option to me.

An old DOS game and SoundBlaster 16 PCI

Does anyone know if the SoundBlaster 6 PCI sound card will work with old DOS games? I've got an old game CD that I got stumped on and never finished. I'd like to try it again (after about 2 years). It's an old Ultima Underworld game. The only sound cards listed in the game are SoundBlaster/SoundBlaster Pro and Roland. Can the SB6 PCI card be setup manually at the time of installation? I'm booting the PC off a floppy to load DOS, this way I can update the autoexec and config files. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Soundcard settings for old DOS games??? I have an Audig

I have a Soundblaster Audigy 2 card in my computer, and I want to play some old DOS games. I'm wondering what settings I need to use with it to play these games. I remember how it was back then with the games, but now that things have changed, I am completely lost how to configure my card to play in a fashion that works back then. I have a variation of DOSBox, but I want to try running a game just through normal windows dos.

I'm not sure if Audigy 2 has Sound Blaster 6 emulation, but Windows XP (assuming you have it) has Sound Blaster 2.0 emulation.

IRQ 5 or 7 (I forget which one as it's been ages since I used Windows XP to play DOS games)
DMA
If you have Vista you'll need VDMsound or Dosbox.
If the game has General MIDI (MPU-40), you should pick that instead of Sound Blaster for music.

Live! - Windows 98 - old DOS games?

DOS games still need some form of driver that provides DOS programs with hardware access - either an old TSR or Windows driver. Either way. But a DOS game will not work without one or the other. Back to square one, either way.
The "driver" you think you need is built into DOS games. Typically, you run a setup step where you choose your soundcard from a menu of choices that the game offers.
You probably also need an AUTOEXEC.BAT line, like:
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D H5 P330? T6
The BLASTER variable is used by DOS programs for sound configuration information:

?This specifies an SB6 using the most-common values. I'm not sure how this differs when an AWE is involved, or even if it does.
Again, the only reason you need the DOS drivers for the SBLi've is that the card came along too late to get support in DOS programs, so you need a translation layer that makes it appear there is real SB6 (and MPU40) hardware which the DOS program can operate, but which is actually a translation to the capabilities of the SBLi've.

I have all the anti-tracking addons so when I found 5 downloads in my "my computer"download files I was puzzled so how can I remove these that got past the addons without deleting the whole folder?

about a week ago or more I added all the Firefox addons to prevent tracking on facebook and google then when I was sharing a picture from my "my documents" under the files in the "my downloads" on my desk top and I didn't download them. Is there a way to remove those files and prevent a third party from downloading to my files? I can not remove the folder as its the one with all my downloads like family pictures?

What were the names of the files? To my knowledge there is no way files can automatically download themselves unless they are told to do so by a addon, virus or malware. Are you sure another family member didn't download those files?
It may turn out the files are not dangerous.

4 *.joboptions files from old Reader version are stuck in Trash and I can't delete them

Hello, all. I have a 5 year old Mac, PowerBook G4 which I love and don't want to replace. It runs MAC OS 10.4.11, it's a 867 mHz Power PC dual OS 9. The first Acrobat was 5.0, and when I downloaded an upgrade I just dragged the 5.0 to the trash. Now there are four files that I can't get emptied from the trash. They are eBook.joboptions, Press.joboptions, Print.joboptions and screen.joboptions. They are locked and I can't figure out how to unlock them.
I suspect that the problem is that this version of Acrobat only runs under System 9, but I am afraid to start system 9. Can anyone help me?

Take them out of the trash click on there icons go to get info and unlock them, then put them back in the trash and delete.

I've just deleted 600 gig's of data of an eternal drive and when I try emptying my trash, It wont let me because it says there are locked files.

Strange file in my trash...can't delete

Hello. Yesterday, a file showed up in my trash. The file name is:
"?␀␀␀ð
ð.␀␀"
If I get info on it, the info window pops open quickly and then disappears. The file also appears and my trash icon shows as empty. However, when I re-open the trash can, the file is back. The Date Modified is Dec 31, 1903, 6:00 PM and the kind is alias.
Does anyone know anything about this?

Strange item in Trash that I can't remove

Hello - there is an "file/item" in my Trash that I just can't seem to remove. It looks something like "///O//.//" except the "O" is a lot smaller and has a "-" above it.
I have no idea where this has come from. get info shows: volumes/BOOTCAMP/trashes/501 and is Zero Bytes.
I have emptied the Trash securely, I also tried Cleaning the HD using "OnyX" and run the Weekly and monthly scripts, it it just won't go away and it annoying ! I know it's only a small think but it's just bugging me.
Please help.

How can I get rid of unwanted persona? I choosed a new one but the old one apears everytime I open firefox and I can't remove it because it isn't in my adds on anymore.

I tryed to choose the unwanted persona again, so I can remove it properly but it doesn't work. When I choose a new persona, it works until I close firefox and when I open it again I wear the old one again.

Try "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults" on the [[Safe mode]] start window.

Dos games

Is there a way to play old DOS games such as the original Sid Meier's Colonization for DOS on my iMac? I'm wanting to buy the original one (used to play it on my dad's old NEC PC all the time and prefer the DOS version over the Windows version, slightly different things I noticed between the two.) but want to make sure it's playable first. Otherwise I'd have to lugg out my old PC just to play this one game.

View hidden files in my trash

okay first off I feel like the biggest idiot. I'm transferring my data to a new imac. the songs in iTunes were duplicated so I decided to delete the songs in itunes and re-import the library. well after I deleted them I go into the trash and they are not there. At the bottom of the trash it says there are 9,717 files in the trash - I just can not see them!!! How can i view them?? please help!

what you describe sounds strange. those files should not be hidden. Regardless, you can make hidden files visible with a 3rd party utility like TinkerTool

FF 34 - Restoring Sessions from old folders of files recovery.bak and recovery.js that are not in the original folder. Is this possible?

After crash all the recovery files were gone. With a recovery software I could get old versions of recovery files (recovery.bak, recovery.js). I try to implement them in the new profile folder by exchanging the files, but FF34 just ioverwrites them. Unfortunalty I could not restore the old sessionstore.js file.
Any idea how I can restore the ols session with this 2 old files (recovery.bak, recovery.js)?

Did you check in a text editor that the recovered files are not corrupted and only contain ASCII text?
You would have to copy such a recovery file to the main profile folder as sessionstore.js to replace the current copy.
If you do not use "Show my windows and tabs from last time" then you need to use "History > Restore Previous Session" and possibly "History > Recently Closed Tabs/Windows".
