Old emails that I archived suddenly appeared in my Inbox again

Yesterday over 330 old archived emails suddenly downloaded back into my Inbox. I didn't make any changes to my Gmail account nor did I sync anything. This happened while I was on vacation, so its very bizarre. The emails start from 10 months back - any thoughts on how or why this happened? They all seem mostly like junk emails I must have deleted or archived.

I had this same issue. I hadn't used my iPad for quite some time (say about a month or so) and then when I went to use it again I updated to the new software and all my apps. I hadn't even noticed the mail icon reading that I had over a thousand emails but when I opened my mail and deleted everything the icon still showed I had over a thousand emails unread. I tried everything, but what ended up fixing it was deleting the email account, TURNING OFF THE IPAD COMPLETELY (I tried this once without turning off the iPad and it didn't work), turning it back on and then re-adding my account. That finally fixed it.

  • I moved my year old emails to my Archive box to save iCloud space, when I did that my space used went from 450mb to 990mb?

I moved my year old emails to my Archive box to save iCloud space, when I did that my space used went from 450mb to 990mb? Like I doubled the amount in my inbox? only they definitely moved not copied from my inbox.

I cannot find this 300GB "Backup" in the Finder, only in the Storage info when I check "About This Mac".
You are probably using Time Machine to backup your MacBook Pro, right? Then the additional 300 GB could be local Time Machine snapshots.  Time Machine will write the hourly backups to the free space on your hard disk, if the backup drive is temporarily not connected. You do not see these local backups in the Finder, and MacOS will delete them, when you make a regular backup to Time Machine, or when you need the space for other data.
See Pondini's page for more explanation:   What are Local Snapshots?   http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
I have restarted my computer, but the information remains the same. How do I reclaim the use of the 300GB? Why is it showing up as "Backups" when it used to indicate "Photos"? Are my photos safe on the external drive?
You have tested the library on the external drive, and so your photos are save there.
The local TimeMachine snapshot probably now contains a backup of the moved library.  Try, if connecting your Time Machine drive will reduce the size of your local Time Machine snapshots.

  • Hello! I have a macbook air and my apple ID is using my old email that I don't remember the password to. I want to switch it to my most recent email. How can I do this?

Hello! I have a macbook air and my apple ID is using my old email that I don't remember the password to. I want to switch it to my most recent email. How can I do this?

Change your old Apple ID using this link:
    https://appleid.apple.com/
Click the blue Manage your Apple ID button.
Its password is unrelated to the password you use for the email associated with it.
If you don't remember the Apple ID password, click the Reset your password link.
I already have a new apply id that is set on my phone and ipad. I just want to switch it to that one...
You cannot change your Apple ID to another one that is already in use - in this case, the one you created for your iPnone and iPad. Decide which Apple ID you want to keep. If you need to change it, change it - don't create a new one.

  • I no longer have access to an old email that authorizes a lot of my music on my Ipod nano. How do I reauthorize the music when I can't access old email?

I can't authorize some music from my Ipod nano...it was purchased using an old email that I no longer have access to. When I type in my information to recover my password, it says my information is incorrect. Can I do something to move the music from my old Apple ID to my new one?

You'll want to contact Apple Support by phone to have them walk you through the process of getting this older account cleaned up and your issue resolved.

Yes you should supply another address, no you won't lose your purchases.

  • I am trying to set up my new replacement phone and the iCloud account is using my old email that is no longer activated, so I am not able to reset my password in order to set up messaging, etc. What do I do??

I am trying to set up my new replacement phone and the iCloud account is using my old email that is no longer activated, so I am not able to reset my password in order to set up messaging, etc. What do I do??

Try to change your Apple ID back to your old email address (http://appleid.apple.com) in order to set up and activate the phone. After the set up please sign out of iCloud and turn off "Find My iPhone" (Settings > iCloud) - do that on all your devices -, then change your Apple ID to your new address again and then add your iCloud account on you devices again.

  • I changed my primary email and icloud is still set for my old email. I tried deleting my icloud but it aks me for the old password associated with the old email that I don't have anymore. Any other sugestions on how to get icloud to change emails on my i

I changed my primary email and icloud is still set for my old email. I tried deleting my icloud but it aks me for the old password associated with the old email that I don't have anymore. Any other sugestions on how to get icloud to change emails on my ios?

I figured it out! I changed my email & password at the icloud site, then when I deleted the icloud account on my iphone - it still showed my old email but when i typed in my current password it went through. I was then able to sign back in with my current email and password. That was too easy for the amount of time I have put into this!  Glad its finally fixed.

  • Can I stop my IPhone from pulling up old emails that I haven't deleted?

That seems a really obvious answer but I didn't think of it.
    Thanks!

  • I can't get rid of an old email that I set up apps on in the past. I don't have a password. I can't update anything.

I have an old email that I can't get rid of. Every time I try to install app updates it asks for my password (which I don't remember, and I don't have that email to receive anything). I have gone to settings in icloud and I only have my updated info. Help! I can't even play some of the games without doing an update.

    Hi THIVELY,
Since applications from the app store are linked to the Apple ID - in this case your old email - used to purchase or obtain them, you will need to have the password to that Apple ID in order to update those apps. This article will tell  you how to reset that password so you can continue to use that Apple ID -
If you forgot your Apple ID password
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

  • TS3899 How can i delete 3564 old emails that have come from the server on setting up my iphone in 1 easy move

How do I delete 3654 old  emails that have been delivered when I started the new iphone?

Log onto the server through your email providers web interface and delete them there.

  • TS3899 I am trying to pull up an old email that I received and placed in the trash.  When I press "load more messages," the older messages do not pop up.  What am I doing wrong?

I am trying to pull up an old email that I received and placed in the trash.  When I press "load more messages," no additional trash eMails pop up.  What am I doing wrong?

You're not looking in your trash can.  And if you've emptied your trash can, the message is gone.
To open your trash, you have inboxes on the top, and accounts below.  Tap the mail from the accounts.  That's where your trash can is.  Tap it.  If the mail is not permanently deleted it will be in the trash.

  • My apple ID is linked to an old email that I cannot access anymore.

My apple ID is linked to an old email that I cannot access anymore. Frustratingly it won't allow me to switch it to my current email. It says that my real email address is my rescue email. I would like my primary email to be connected to my apple id. I made up a new email address to use as my "rescue" but it won't allow me to switch. How can I make this happen?

    Manage your Apple ID
Be forewarned that, if either the ID or the primary email address is a dot-mac/me/icloud address, Apple shouts "Gotcha" and you can never change again!

  • I want to back up an IMAP account via POP3 in Thunderbird but it will not download old emails that are still on the server. How can I do this?

I wand to use Thunderbird to back up and purge old emails from an account via POP3. This account is accessed by other users using IMAP on their computers and phones.
I want to archive and purge old messages from the server using Thunderbird. But, it will not download messages that apparently are marked as read on the server via IMAP.

Pop mail accounts must be set up to 'leave messages on the server'.
    check this before using.
    * Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings for the mail account
    or
    * menu icon > Options > Account Settings > Server Settings for the mail account
select: 'leave messages on the server'
optional: select: 'for at most xx days' this will delete anything older than specified number of days select 'Until I delete them' when you delete an email it will be deleted off the server.
click on Ok to save settings.
Pop mail accounts only look at Inbox and download whatever has not been previously downloaded regardless of whether it has been read or not. They cannot access nor download from any other folder on the server.
If you wanted to download emails in other fodlers, you would have to move emails into the Inbox in order to download them and this may not be very practical in your situation.
What you can do is synchronize your IMAP folders to get a copy downloaded to your IMAP mail account.
Then go into 'offline' mode to stop any further synchronizing as synchronized folders do get updated.
MozBackup tool could now be used to backup the Profile as synchronising created mbox files which contain emails.
You can also do the following to get a copy outside of the IMAP mail account:
Create the same folders in 'Local Folders'.
Then right click on email and 'copy to' and select Local Folders and the folder you require.
Putting a copy in Local Folders means these emails are also on your computer and they are not influenced by anything you do in the IMAP folders.
You would need to backup emails in these folders.
