Old Feature Phones

I was wondering if anybody knew or had a list of phones that could be used as a feature phone?
I don't want to pay $9.99 a month for any data plan but want a new phone.
So i wanted to look into buying an older phone off of amazon or ebay.
Currently i have the LG Dare, but i want something with a qwerty keypad that isn't a multimedia phone.
Thanks

Verizon Wireless feature phones are Verizon Wireless CDM 8975; LG Accolade; LG Cosmos; Samsung Gusto; Verizon Wireless Salute; Verizon Wireless Escapade; Samsung Haven; Samsung Intensity; Samsung Intensity Metallic Blue; Pantech Jest; Samsung Convoy; Motorola Barrage; Casio G'zone Rock; Nokia 2705 Shade Non Camera. Can view online at www.vzw.com hover over phone and click on Cell phones.

  • Added 3rd line, my own feature phone, to NATIONWIDE LOYALTY SHARE 550 plan. Penalty for early termination of that line?

I went to a Verizon store to activate, on a pay-as-you-go basis, an old feature phone I owned so I could use it for a month or two while I am selling a house. The Verizon agent said the best thing would be to add it as a 3rd line on my existing NATIONWIDE LOYALTY SHARE 550 plan, where it would only cost the $9+ monthly fee and use minutes from the pooled 550 plan minutes. I made sure he understood that I may only need the additional phone/line for a month or two, then cancel it when the house is sold. He said I could easily delete the line and phone at no penalty. HOWEVER, when I got home and looked at my online receipt for the new line, it states "Date of Activation: 9/06/2013, Contract End Date: 09/06/2015, Early Termination Fee: UP TO $175." I am looking for a written reply from a Verizon representative why the receipt states an early termination fee when I was told that there would be none because I am using my own phone?

I was able to contact my Verizon agent at the local store and he said the 3rd phone was incorrectly added as being subject to a 2-year contract. He went into my account and changed that 3rd phone to a one day-contract so it now shows as a month-to-month phone with no termination fee. Unfortunately, he said he cannot re-print a corrected receipt with the change. I asked him to make a screenshot of my account showing the 3rd line and had him email it to me. Hopefully, that will suffice when I terminate the line in a month or two.
This is a good reason to always check the written agreements and receipts when you buy anything. Never just take what is taken verbally as binding. It is what actually gets entered into the system and what the contract terms state in writing.

  • Activate feature phone on smartphone line question

    Hi
I just broke my smartphone, and for the few days while I'm getting it fixed I wanted to activate my old feature phone to fill in. However, when I went to do that, Verizon says I need to change my data plan. I have two questions.
    1. If I do this am I going to get charged an early termination fee on my smartphone line?
    2. In a few days when I get my smartphone back will I still have my old data plan? I'm grandfathered in to one that isn't available anymore.
    Thanks

So, if I get this correctly - you can activate a data package on a line with a feature phone, BUT, you can't activate a feature phone on a line that has a data package?  That doesn't make sense...Have you actually called VZW and spoken with a human?

  • New feature phones anytime soon?

Are there going to be any new feature phones anytime soon? I haven't seen any that I like, and am just wondering if there will be any new ones in the near future. Most of the ones sold now are absolutely worthless and the rest (theres only 1 or 2 of them) don't really line up with my tastes and I'd be better off keeping my old phone then get a new phone that will fall apart in a few months or getting one I don't want.
And please don't just give me the link to the feature phones , I'm completely capable of looking there myself and also please don't tell me to sign up for updates, as I'd rather be told by an actual person than being sent a generic email that doesn't really give me the information I'm asking for.
I'm just curious if anybody has any information about new feature phones coming out this summer. I'd like a phone with at least some of the capabilities of a smartphone, or at least a phone that looks nice and works well, but I'm unable to have a data plan since all my money is going towards a college bill and my parents are in control of my phone bill.

Appearently new phones running MP Brew are in the works but I don't suspect they will be out until late this year.  This question has been posted more than a few times and Verizon is unwilling to give an answer.  The fact that no one is previewing a phone should also be telling as to when the new phones will ship.

  • NEW Kin TwoM Pricing / New Feature Phones

So, I've been checking the site compulsively for about the last two months...let me know if you think my logic on this is sound:
This week I noticed that the Kin OneM pricing went from 19.99 to FREE- it doesn't seem to be a promotional price either because it's listed as an "Online Discount" the exact same way the Crux and Cosmos are.
This leads me to believe two things:
    1) Possibly the best news- with so many of the feature phones moving to FREE pricing, it's not a huge assumption that new feature phone devices may soon be on the way.  (Please, please, please offer some compelling phones Verizon...)
    2) The Kin TwoM will soon see a price decrease as well- probably to the 19.99 range making it almost impossible to pass up.
If number 1 turns out to be true, I'll be waiting a bit to see what comes out before I pull the trigger on the Kin TwoM.
There's been recent news that Verizon will be releasing devices "later this year" (whatever that means) with the Brew OS and Opera Mini preloaded- this probably means they've got some decent feature phones coming.  I'm making that assumption based on the fact that the HTC Freestyle on AT&T has been pretty much regarded as the first device to be released like this...I'm thinking Verizon will want to compete with them at least at the beginning of a new standard of feature phones.
But, if it turns out that they again bring a line-up that only gets the teens excited, count me in for the Kin TwoM.
I'd prefer not to have to walk around the office with the same phone my boss's 15 year old daughter has...now there's an interesting water cooler chat:
"Bergman, nice phone...my tween daughter loves that thing..."

Somehow i feel the Kin phones won't be for sale for much longer. For those that need a basic phone with touch interface, there's other options which have a clearer interface. Including the Costco special Samsung SCH-u370. It's a Samsung u820/Reality that doesn't require data. No free wi-fi, but overall it's a much better phone. More ... finished, than the Kin phones. The Kins to me feels like a Windows Phone beta in comparison.
I do love how the tiles are laid out on the home screen better on the Kins than WP7 phones, there's no empty space above or to the right. And i love the favorites contacts screen of the Kins. WP7 phones though feels much sleeker and better zune like controls. And since you can load apps on WP7 your browser won't be outdated.
For current feature phones, i think the u370 is a top choice on Verizon. Good build quality, clear user interface, nice fonts and sizes, a useful sketch app, and the ability to doodle/notate on your pictures. Excellent value. Kin Onem, i can't reccomend. The phone dial numbers are too small on screen to be usable. Thicker than other feature phones, but because of the form factor, the side buttons are almost useless in one handed use. Kin Twom is much better in these aspects than the Onem. But certain interface font sizes are still too small.
The web browser (IE 6 Mobile) is not bad. Mobile and minimal pages loads quick on wifi. Although the back button is not easy to get to, and i haven't figured out if you can go forward in history. The url/title bar seems unfinished, i wish it would have swapped to the title after entering the url, thus saving space. The tiled bookmarks is a good idea, but page titles doesn't fit on the tiles. Even though the hardware is Tegra1, the Kin doesn't come with Flash lite. So alot of flash interactive buttons and streaming doesn't work. Infact simple mp3 playback and playlists doesn't stream in the browser. Which is sad.
One saving grace for the browser that i have found is Bing. Yep. http://m.bing.com/ Of course on first load it will be in landscape mode. And it only list the top 3 items of the menu, without being able to expand it. But go into portrait mode, and you should see the complete menu. Almost every web app on this menu worked well. My favorite is the directions. It almost makes up for not having google maps. Almost.
The strong points of the Twom is of course the browser + wifi, and zune. Which is like a zune hd lite. The FM radio made up for the lack of web streaming. I'm rediscovering FM thanks to it. And the zune desktop software is very modern and sleek. It made itunes look like it's made for accountants. Personally i love the Twom even though it has its quirks. The ui is unique, not quite WP7, and not like anything else. No branding as well. With FM radio i have wireless music anywhere, for free.
Here are some mobile sites that i found to work on Kin's IE6 Mobile:
http://m.bing.com/ --- search, local, traffic, directions (fantastic), movies, weather, favs.
http://mobile.local.com/ --- more direct/faster way to search for anything local
http://wapedia.mobi/en/ --- easier to load than mobile wikipedia
    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/
    http://m.whitepages.com/ http://www.gasbuddytogo.com/
    http://www.gasbuddytogo.com/ http://translate.google.com/m/
    http://translate.google.com/m/
There's plenty of news & social websites that have mobile modes. I've tried cnn, twitter, and youtube. And they all worked well. Youtube mobile seems to be the only way you can stream anything with the browser. I've tried other mobile video/music sites, and no go.
The phone have frozen 4 times within the last day. This happens with heavy web browsing and music playback. Overall i can't recommend the Kin phones, although go ahead and buy one while you can if you know what you're getting into. I feel that future feature phones will be more polished like the Samsung u370/u820 rather than these Kins. I just wish MS, Verizon, Danger and PCD realize that they were on to something great with these Kins despite the marketing flop. I like the TwoM despite the beta feel of the software and hardware (WP7 still looks like it's a beta product).

  • Upgrading from a feature phone to smart phone

I have a feature phone with a 75mb data plan that is pre share everything plan and we are not interested in switching to the share everything plan.  I'm wondering what I have for options for a data, if anything, if I want to upgrade to a smart phone.  I will not be upgrading my line, just buying a phone second hand.  Any insight would be helpful.

You can stay on your old plan even with an upgrade. The only ones that had to buy a phone at full price are the ones on Unlimited. Anyways the data options for smartphones with the old pricing are 2 GB for $30, 5 GB for $50 and 10 GB for $80. Overages are $10 per GB.

  • Why did my old cell phone get added?

Why was my old cell phone, that isn't active anymore, registered as my skype to go number?  I haven't looked into this feature enough to know if I want to use it or not.  And I certainly do not want information auto added with out my permission.

I have the same problem. In addition, my old cell phone was in a different country (Luxemburg) ! I tried to add my current phone, but the system forces the previous country and I cannot enter my current country (France). Anyway, I noticed that Skype To Go is not even available in France, so no big deal. But it is not correct that the old number is still around and is not removable.

  • Will be released any A200-based feature phones?

It's a pity that Sony Ericsson stopped development of A200 feature phones. This platform has not now any alternatives on the mobile devices market (except for Nokia's S40 but Series 40 does not support neither multitasking nor access to the internal filesystem nor system-level applications). Google Android is not an alternative for A200 because:
    1) it's written in full on Java and causes fast battery discharging, slowdown interface, wasteful use of hardware resources;
    2) the system does not draw the line between third-party and system level applications, so, it's opened for viruses;
    3) user can't set permissions of applications, it can do everything if installed (on A200 user can prohibit for any application, for example, to send SMS, if he is not sure that the application is not a trojan), so, special software and root access for blocking unwanted operations is needed;
    4) the phone functionality in Android is realised too bad, even to send or correctly view EMS is a big problem;
    5) Android has a very bad support of hardware buttons's navigation, it does not support hot keys.
So, I do not understand the reason (except of temporary financial problems) of why Sony Ericsson suddenly stopped development of A200 and replaced it with really budget Arima- and PNX-based phones, and later all phones, including low-price models, were released with the Android on-board. It's a very strange politics. Java Microedition has not died, it's still used in the budget phones of other companies, so why you can't revive a good-old A200, develop some new API's for Java ME (for example, NFC support)? It's cheaper to support an OSE-based native code platform and sometimes add to it new functionality than permanently optimize every new version of Android for low-power hardware, why you do not understand it? Not everybody wants a touchscreen phone, the keyboard control is more fast and easy if the user know the hotkeys, it's not needed to permanently see where he is pressing (screen does not have a haptic difference).
I hope that my lone voice will be heared. There was a similar petition in the last year, and it was signed by tens of thousands of people. But the directions of the company has not changed from that time. So, I'll end with a new popular meme: "Sony, what you're doing??? ahahahaha... stop it".

I know there still are people out there who don't want an android/smartphone. This has, just as you mention, been up here and on other places as well. At least here in Sweden it's still possible to buy some of the A200/OSE-models like Cedar, but most retailers seems to choose not to have them in stock and I guess that's because the majority of customers right now want smartphones. As I'm sure you understand I can't promise anything in terms of releasing a new A200/OSE-phone, but I will however forward this feedback internally.

You can download anything whose System Requirements are consistent with your iPhone's iOS version. If you have a 3G and you are running iOS 3.1.2 as in your profile, you can upgrade to iOS 4.2.1 as KiltedTim wrote.
App developers generally don't limit their work to older systems since they want to take advantage of new iOS features.

All iTunes pruchases are tied to the AppleID purchased with.
Just use the old AppleID. You can update it if needed.

My cell phone will not back up properly to my laptop.  I have tried three times in two days as I knew I was getting my new phone today and wanted to save all my information.  The problem is that it backed up very random things like things from my IPod from years ago, and did not back up all the information it should have from my "old" cell phone.  Now I am missing almost everything.  What happened and can i fix this?

First, make sure you are using the most current version of iTunes 11.1.3 (8).  Second, what version of iOS 7 was your old phone running, i.e. 7.0, 7.0.1, 7.0.2? If your back-up was made with a version of iOS that is newer than the version on your new phone, it will not sync. For example, if your back-up was of a phone running iOS 7.0.4, and your new phone was running 7.0.2 out of the box, the back up will not sync to the new phone until it is updated to iOS 7.0.4.

  • What is the "best" feature phone to upgrade?

I am due for my upgrade on my current phone (which I love most of the time) my LG EnV 3 which I have had for 2+ years. Upon learning that Verizon discontinued the EnV series I was really upset, especially since the only good phones left are smartphones. I am about to start my senior year at college and neither my parents nor I can afford a smartphone for this last year of my school. After school, if I get a consitant job I am planning on upgrading to an iPhone regardless of the >$800 I will have to shell out.
So my question is, for the next year or so (two years tops) should I buy the LG Cosmos or the LG Cosmos Touch? I really want a touch screen, but is it worth $50? Is the Cosmos even any good? I know the camera is awful, the keyboard is small, and no video capabilities? Also, does the Cosmos (not touch) let me use mp3 files as ringtones? I know the LG Octane is good, but I don't have $100 and it's probably not worth that much money. Or should I get the  Samsung SCH-u370, which is also $50 although I cannot find it on the Verizon website, but the bestbuy website.
Or should I just wait until Verizon comes out with new feature phones? The only probablem with my current phone is that it randomly turns off all the time consistantly, which is really annoying but has never been a major problem. Is Verizon even ever going to update it's feature phones? Or are poor college students going to have to resort to crappy phones or crappy service (not Verizon?).
    Thanks in advance!

Don't get a new phone until they offer better phones. I have the ENV3 and refuse to "downgrade" to a junk phone. There are no feature phones even close to the ENV3 though Verizon would like to say that the Octane is but from what I read and people I talk to the echo makes it not worth even getting stuck with for 2 years.
I just bought a new battery from ebay and will continue to just keep this phone or if I have to buy another phone from ebay before I get one of their stinking phones.
To: SuzyQ - longtime Verizon customer
Helping others get the most out of their phones!
I too am a longtime Verizon customer and was like you for years and years. I thought Verizon was tops until they have stopped caring for those of us who do not want nor can afford smart phones.  They have shown what they think of us who just want a good phone with the same features we had 2 years ago without a data plan. Now they want us to think that all that is out there is stinking junk phones when they offered better phones just in the recent past. Why do they think we are stupid?  Its all about the almighty dollar and not the customers.

An Apple ID is a user name you use for everything you do with Apple. Creating an account for an Apple service, such as the iTunes Store or the App Store, creates an Apple ID. Apple ID allows you to access other Apple services. You don't have to create a new account for each service—just use your Apple ID.
How do I change my Apple ID Name or personal information?
