Old Flash in new Firefox won't run, no warnings.

Opened my laptop using a current version of FF but with Flash 11.9. Viewed one of my pages with Flash content and.... nothing, just an empty div. No warnings that Flash was out of date, etc. So if I have this right FF won't run out of date Flash for security reasons. Fine. I've always seen warnings in these cases. But apparently if Flash is old enough FF just doesn't bother. Visitors have no idea what is happening. It just looks bad.
Is this correct? What is the recommended way of dealing with this from a developer's viewpoint?

We strongly recommend that users always run the latest version of Flash Player. Running an old version puts users at risk for malware infection. The vast majority of users are opted in to background update and are kept updated automatically, but there are users that for whatever reason have chosen to stick with an old, vulnerable version of Flash Player. While this is a bad idea, people are certainly free to do it. The upside is that the affected population that you're describing is pretty small.
The upgrade story will actually get better over time. The latest versions of both Google Chrome and Internet Explorer include Flash Player as a built-in component, distributed with the browser. Users are always updated with the latest version of Flash, and new updates are delivered inline via the Chrome updater or Windows Update respectively. Mozilla has spent a few years talking about how Flash needs to go away, while the other browser vendors have been investing in modernized plug-in interfaces and improvements in plug-in security, and unfortunately the prioritization is showing in the user experience. We're hopeful that Windows 10 will pick up the majority of the WinXP and Vista stragglers as well as many of the Win7 - Win8.1 users, which means that the whole Flash update problem for a very large population of people will be solved in IE once people upgrade.
It's hard to say what's at the root of the specific issue you're describing. With the major browsers on 4 or 6 week major update cycles (we publish monthly to ensure we can catch and address any new injections in the browsers that might come up in nightly/beta versions before they hit the general population, and to align with Microsoft patch tuesday), so you're talking something like 18 months worth of changes between the Firefox version you're running and the version of Flash that you're running. Everything at Mozilla gets done with bugs, and we'd definitely encourage you to file a bug on the user experience that you're seeing. They've been operating from a reactive place lately, and some of the changes that impact Flash definitely appear to be a little slapdash. It's ultimately good for them to hear from the developer community and not just me all the time, but feel free to add me to the CC: list in the bug.
We ultimately have no control over the longevity of a particular build of Flash -- there are way too many external variables -- and we're also investing a huge amount of effort in proactive security work (and it's been our top engineering priority for years). So each build usually includes large numbers of changes designed to either harden the player or address responsibly disclosed issues from researchers, the larger security and computer science communities and whatever the latest auditing and testing tools we can get our hands on are. The continuous stream of innovation and ingenuity in the offense space is impressive, but keeps us pretty busy. Browser-side changes can easily break older versions of the plug-in, and running an old version is just a bad idea.
So we've really streamlined the installation process to keep people on current versions, and Windows 10 will hopefully be a massive shift away from older, more vulnerable versions of Windows. The landscape is so different than it was even 4-5 years ago.. the days of running anything for years (or months) in your browser are long gone. The pace isn't going to slow down anytime soon, either.

• Where can I get a download for an earlier version of firefox the new version won't run on my computer

I downloaded version 4 and replaced the old files. The new version won;t run because my Mac dose not have an Intell prossesor. I uninstalled the new version and I cant find the old version to download.

• Firefox won't run BBC iPlayer when using Netbook with XP and recommended Flash Player.

On my Netbook running XP and a broadband connection, Firefox won't run BBC iPlayer even though it has had the Flash Player upgraded as recommended. The player stalls and won't stream or start a menu for streaming the "live" content from the Radio Station.
The problem doesn't exist when using Google Chrome as an alternative to Firefox. So this is obviously a Firefox incompatibility problem with Flash Player

That's what mine said too when I went direct to their checker.
But I use the Speed Test app and that shows a different IP address, one which links to Orange in the UK.
At the moment it's giving me 31.81.44.53, but that Ip2location site gives me 50.19.92.191. Google tells me I am on 50.16.198.92.
I am confused and frustrated.
I did several full restores yesterday, several times when the phone restarted it gave US as the defualt locaiton at startup, but this morning when I just did a settings wipe, it gave me the UK, and I thought that had fixed it. I didn't.
Very odd.
Gosh I thought I solved it then, one of the sites told me my app Onavo was creating a proxy. Deleting the app didn't help - may have to delete the profile which may be buried elsewhere on the phone. Oh, it's in the General tab under profiles - if you have a profile at all.
Cannot confirm if this works yet as I only have 2G at home but if you have Onavo, I think it's creating a proxy server connection (directing you to the USA). Delete the app, delete the profile and please let me know if it works for you!
Can't be more than 99% certain, but removing my Onavo profile has now given me a UK IP. Should work!

Today is 9/8/10 this morning I used Firefox and it worked fine but later this evening no matter what I try Firefox won't run. I have yet to try deleting Firefox and re-installing it I would like to avoid this so I dont loose my history or my favorites

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

three finger or two finger gesture to move back and forward between pages of file only work on safari, unlike with old os. this new lion won't let me do it. Any help?

I have decided to dedicate this thread to the wonderful errors of Lion OSX. Each time I find a huge problem with Lion I will make note of it here.
Today I discovered a new treasure of doggie poop in Lion. No Save As......
I repeat. No Save As. In text editor I couldn't save the file with a new extension. I finally accomplished this oh so majorly difficult task (because we all know how difficult it should be to save a file with a new extension) by pressing duplicate and then saving a copy of the file with a new extension. Yet then I had to delete the first copy and send it to trash. And of course then I have to secure empty trash because if I have to do this the rest of my mac's life I will be taking up a quarter of percentage of space with duplicate files. So this is the real reason they got rid of Save As: so that it would garble up some extra GB on the ole hard disk.
So about 20 minutes of my time were wasted while doing my homework and studying for an exam because I had to look up "how to save a file with a new extension in mac Lion" and then wasted time sitting here and ranting on this forum until someone over at Apple wakes up from their OSX-coma.
are you freaking kidding me Apple? I mean REALLY?!!!! who the heck designed this?!!! I want to know. I want his or her name and I want to sit down with them and have a long chat. and then I'd probably splash cold water on their face to wake them up.
I am starting to believe that Apple is Satan.

• New version of Firefox won't run

I updated from an earlier version (using Firefox Setup 2.0.0.14) to the latest version (using Firefox Setup 9.0.1) but then Firefox wouldn't run. (It ran in the background, but no window would open.) I tried several times, including a complete uninstall with deleting all personal data and Firefox-related folders etc. and then a new install. Finally, I decided to reinstall the older version and now Firefox works fine again. Windows Vista.

Be sure you are blaming the people responsible. See below.

Google decided that they will no longer produce the Google Toolbar for Firefox beyond Firefox 4. Future versions of Google toolbar will only work with IE7-9. Google Toolbar is not available on any other browser, even Google's own browser.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

• Firefox won't run, but says it is when I try to unistall it - Win 7 task manager says it isn't..how can I get around this to uninstall it?

I have been trying to open a browser window with Mozilla Firefox 6.0.2 (x86 en-US). It won't run, however, when I try to uninstall the program, it says I have to close firefox first. Win 7 task manager does not show the program as running.
I tried again, and still get the same message from Firefox. I checked the task manager again, not running. Tried running it - won't run. Tried uninstall, got the same message, close firefox before trying to uninstall - firefox isn't running!
I would appreciate any help that you could give me. I want to use firefox, especially since it is the browser that opens Webkinz correctly for my grandkids.

In the task manager, are you looking at Processes? That is where you find Firefox listed when you see no interface, not in Applications.
This page might have some useful information about that problem.

• Brand new macbook won't run off battery, only when plugged in

I just go my new macbook last week and being new to mac computers, I didn't realize that it won't run from just the battery power until last night. The battery light shows it's fully charged. If i'm working with it plugged in and it becomes unplugged, it shuts down and when I reconnect the power cord, it resumes from the same webpage or whatever I was last working on. I opened up the battery compartment and removed the battery and then held the power button for 5 seconds, but that didn't fix the problem. Does anyone know what I might try or if something needs to be set up in order to run off the battery? Thanks! Leigh

Hello leighdk,
Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You can by all means take some good advise from the people on this board in response to you problem.
But here is the best advise, especially since you're new to Mac.
Call Apple Care or take it back to the store and have them check it out. It is under warranty. You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return the Mac for a completely different or give it back because you do not like it. they may try to charge you a restocking fee but this should not be the case since there is an issue with you machine.
Call Apple, see what they say... Then if you can't get it resolved then post back and maybe we can give you some sound advise.

• When I update from 3.0 up, firefox won't run.

I am running on 3.0 because anything higher than that won't run. Every time I try to run I get the chrome registration error even though all the extensions are disabled. Use to run good until I upgraded to the latest version of firefox.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

• The new firefox won't allow me to auto sign in even to sites I'm approved

I HATE the new Firefox. It keeps making me "allow" moving to different sites, even when it's within a site. Also, even though I have allowed certain sites (e.g., APA.org) it will not allow me to automatically reload or sign in. This is totally frustrating b/c it means I cannot even manually enter my password and sign in. I NEED this site for my business and Firefox is preventing me from totally normal use.

Try:
