Old games won't play.

So, I bought a copy of Oregon Trail II off of Amazon. This game was made for Macs. It should play on a Mac. Right?
Wrong.
I insert the CD, the little Finder thing pops up displaying the CD's contents, and the Install icon has a little "no" sign through it. I click on it anyways, and it tells me that "You cannot open the application 'Installer' because it is not supported on this system."
And it's not just this game. All the old games I could find in my house that said they would play on a Mac (like Labyrinth of Crete, for example) give me the same error messages.
What gives? I want to play OTII! ;_;

Presumably all your old games are of a similar vintage and were written for OS 9 (or earlier), and Intel Macs sadly don't support Classic mode. You may have some luck using a Mac emulator (like Sheepshaver), but if I were you I'd give up as it's a lot of grind to get working and probably won't work reliably or quickly enough to play games on. You can probably pick up a vintage Mac that'll run them for next to nothing these days anyway...

Drakensang game won't play properly on Satellite L850D

I am trying to load an old game, "Drakensang" on my new Satellite L850D, but am having some issues.
The game loads perfectly well - or so it seems - but when it plays, it appears to be playing in the background. The Toshiba "Leading Innovation" screen is always over the game.

I assume the Toshiba Leading Innovation screen is the desktop wallpaper.
Right?
This game wasnt known to me therefore I googled a little bit.
It looks like its an online game which is running in the internet browser.
Therefore I would recommend testing this game using different browsers. Furthermore it could be possible that some patch or addon is blocked and therefore the game does not run.
At least you should also try to update the graphic card driver.

Please help! My old movies won't play anymore.

Hello,
I have a bunch of old movies from my old phone downloaded in iphoto. Up until yesterday I was able to play these movies by simply clicking on them, but I just noticed that won't play anymore. I can still see the still frame of them, but they won't play in either iphoto or quicktime. My newer movies play fine. I'm pretty sure I have all new updates for iphoto and quicktime. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

POGO GAMES WON'T PLAY

Certain games on Pogo.com won't play anymore. I was advised to update Firefox, but I can't find the tools menu. When I tried to find out about the 3.6.16 to see if that is the problem, they said not to do that. So, I really need to find out how to fix this problem since most of the games I play won't load anymore.

Mozilla are aware of the issue in Firefox 3.6.14 and are working on a fix, no timescale but they are planning on a quick release. Firefox 3.6.15 will fix the issue with some Java applets not working, which has caused many Pogo games to stop functioning.

TS2845 I started a new apple account. My songs downloaded from my old account won't play on my computer.

I started a new apple account. The songs I previously downloaded on my computer won't play. I deauthorized the old account. The songs ask me to put in my apple ID but then when I put in my new one they say computer authorized.

I have the same problem (deleted email account). I think I mistakenly set up an account when I was buying an Apple product online, not realizing that it would be the same ID as my iTunes.
What is the way to actually contact Apple?
I have been clicking around in circles for hours! Will I have to pay them to resolve this? I don't have any products still have applecare . . .

Old movies won't play

After purchasing FCP X, I knew old projects would no longer open for editing, but I also noticed (not sure if it's related), that finished movies exported as a Quicktime movie will no longer play. It seems to be the video files I created while using FCE. I get an error that asks me to search the internet for an application to play them. The dredful warning I remember from my PC days using WMP.
Whenever I made a finished product I made it "self-contained," So I would not think it needs to access old files to simply play them back in Quicktime X.

Right-click on the file and chose "Open With" then chose QuickTime Player from the list.
Note that if the codec needed to read/play the file isn't installed on your system, the file will not play. And if the file is a reference movie, it will only play as long as the associated media (video clips and render files) are still on your system in the proper location(s).

I have a 4g classic iPod.Suddenly almost all my games won't play and I get a message to go to the site but there is nothing there for me. Where are the games for my iPod and what has changed to make my games no longer Play?

Most of the games on my iPod classic 4g will not play anymore. I get a message that is of no help and when i synced the games they disappeared. What is going on and where have the games for iPods on iTunes gone ?

Apple removed the clickwheel games from the iTunes Store back in September.
Have you tried a hard reset of the iPod to see if that helps resolve the issue of not being able to play the games? To do this, first make sure the Hold Switch is in the OFF position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

If you lose sound for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email and other notifications, system sounds have probably been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled in two different ways: either by the side switch (located next to the volume up/down controls) or in the Recent Apps tray. The initial default is via the side switch.
Check the status of Settings > General > Use Side Switch to:. If this is set to Mute, the switch on the side of the iPad will mute system sounds.
If this is set to Lock rotation then the mute system sounds control is in the Recent Apps tray. Double tap the home button and, in the tray which appears at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is on the left. Is it is crossed-out tap on it and mute will be turned off and system sounds will be turned ON.

After quicktime upgrade, old movie won't play smooth

Hi, I had an older verson of quicktime and a movie I had edited in imovie worked and played fine, then I upgraded to quicktime 7.0.1 and now the movie plays unsmooth with pasues and skips. All my other movies that I edited in imovie play fine, but they are not as big. Any ideas on why or what I should do? thanks

The object tag code is used by Internet Explorer and the embed tag is used by all other browsers.
Your page code is missing quote marks around the words true, loop and controller. This may be causing other browsers some trouble.
I tried downloading the file via QuickTime Player's Open URL feature:

The movie is not set to fast start. You can fix this by using QT Pro.
Open the file (the version on your server) and use Save As (save location is your Desktop). Upload this "new" version to your server and replace the "old" one.
Save As will restore the fast start properties in the file.

Old QT won't play

I have a brief - 1 minute 15 sec - QT that was made in 1977. On my Macs it will play the audio but I only get a white screen as a video. It will play both audio and video on a PC. The codec is: Intel Indeo(R) Video R3.2 Unsigned Integer. What do I need to do to get the video to play on a Mac. THANKS!

Thanks so much for that clarification! Also, I went to the link you provided and things were clarified even a bit further. Now, I do need to plead ignorance - extreme ignorance - about codec issues. My bottom line question is: Is there a way to convert this file so that it can be used in Mac OS X? It seemed to me that the link you provided was describing what I might be able to do but it got a bit to tech for me. Can anyone suggest an "easy" way - if there is a way - to convert this old .mov so that this is usable in Mac X.

Old games won't load on my new ipod

I replaced my 60 gig ipod with an 80 gig classic. Cubis and Soduko won't tranfer. I did a manual sync, and told it to sync games. Any ideas?

Nevermind. I didn't realize I had to buy the newer versions.

Youtube videos/Flash games won't play/freeze browser in Firefox

Ever since I updated to the latest Firefox version I cannot get YouTube videos or Flash games to play. It will load the page and where the video should be it just displays a white space, like the player itself doesn't exist. Youtube when it first loads the page will show the black "video" screen for a split second before disappearing as if it never existed, and then the screen freezes and I have to start the task manager to end the program and restart Firefox. I have refreshed Firefox multiple times, downloaded the latest version of flashplayer and made sure that the plugin is activated to no avail. The funny thing is, is that the videos and games play just fine in Internet Explorer, so it's not a problem with the graphics or hardware on the computer itself.

Itouch games won't play after update

Ok, so I downloaded the new 3.0 and the the update 3.1.I had games on my Itouch before the updates and they worked just fine.Now they are dead.I was hoping the 3.1 would fix this problem, but it didn't.Anyone else having this problem or can tell me what to do to fix it.I am thinking an open window would work. :o)

Not sure if this was the fix but the problem was resolved. I was also having App store sync problems so I rebooted the iPad (hard reboot) and then immediately went to app store any updated all apps (video player want one of them) and after it was complete I did another hard boot/reset. When the iPad restarted I immediately went into the video player and Problem Solved! Nt sure how it resolved itself but it works without reloading the files. Never connected to my laptop or resync'dthe iPad but just did an update to all of my apps from the App store (there were 11 to update). Good luck with it.

1 year old macbook won't play DVDs

I paid the most I've ever for a computer for this macbook and it is by far the worst computer I've ever had. It began to malfunction shortly after I purchased it, but outside of the return date. I was simply told by apple that problems with a mac show up within the first few weeks and there's nothing I can do but continue to have it fixed. Why when I paid 1200 like everyone else must I constantly take my macbook in to have it fixed? Why can't I have a nice new computer like everyone else? But I digress. This is my first and last mac purchase, but I'm stuck with it until I can afford a new computer.
This is just one of several problems I've encountered. Roughly a week ago, my macbook stopped playing DVDs. Nothing unusual about the dvds, they are not burned dvds, just basic rented/purchased dvds. My firmware is up to date. Has anyone else had this problem? What have you done?

You mention your firmware is up to date. I just want to comment, not directly to you but to everyone, that keeping software up to date is way over rated. If your software works when you get your computer it should continue to work exactly the same the entire life of the computer without any updates. The reason I mention this is in part because 'updates' can sometimes, for some situations, make things worse. For instance, I use Tiger 10.4.10 as 10.4.11 will not work with my router. It's just the way it is. An 'update' to 10.4.11 makes life bad for me. I am not saying to never apply updates, just saying to not get into the mindset that they are always good, let alone necessary.
Back to the topic at hand, in what way does your DVD player not work? Does nothing happen at all when a DVD is inserted? How do you get the DVD out once inserted? What happens if you boot up with the install DVD, will it work normally? Can you see any lose, foreign material in the CD/DVD slot upon careful inspection (this used to be a big issue with the iBook).
I am just trying to establish whether your problem is hardware or software. If software, it can be fixed for free. If hardware, well maybe, if it is as simple as foreign material getting in the way.
Do you have an external hard drive, or even another partition on your existing hard drive that you can install a new OS onto WITHOUT any updates, just the original install that came with the computer. Incidentally, an external hard drive which you use to back up the internal drive should be considered as the very first peripheral or accessory that you buy for a computer. Applecare comes second if you are a worrier (willing to pay money for piece of mind). I have never bought Applecare nor do I ever intend to. Consider the money that has been saved over the years! I know this goes against the advice of probably every 'guru' on this forum but it is still a valid opinion and one that I hold. It makes sense for some people to buy AppleCare but is foolish for others. Purchase of AppleCare should be considered as a calculated risk...
