There's no setting for this. It's just the behavior that Apple has designed. If you're unhappy with it, feel free to let us know by sending us some feedback through: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Is there any way to purge old iCal events?
    10.8 Mountain Lion

I had the same question, no purge button and the Preference setting does not seem to work. So I tried the Automator suggestion from your original post and that worked like a dream for me. So, thanks for that, I would never have thought of it. Sorry that you're still having difficulties.

  • ICal events are missing Day and Month in date

Hello, Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere - this is such a weird fault I was not sure how to search for it.
My iCal events are missing the Day and Month in their start and end dates - it just shows a 4 digit year which can only be edited as a 4 digit number. All my events are in their correct places but I am unable to create new multiday events.
This applies to old and new events alike. I tried trashing my iCal prefs file but it made no difference.
Anyone any ideas? I am using iCal 3.0.8 on Leopard 10.5.8.
    Thanks in advance.

Worked it out - I was using a custom date format to give me day and date in the menu bar - reverting to one of the standard built in 'British' works - but then I lose my day in the menu bar....

  • Why spotlight is not able to perform searches on iCal events older than 365 days?

why spotlight is not able to perform searches on iCal events older than 365 days? I really do not understand why if iCal can sync all events, even the very old, the spotlight will not be able to search on events older than 365 days; why? is absurd; let's say I want to search for a person contained in an old appointment: iCal in your Mac with a few key words, I find it right away, but this important feature on the iPhone is locked; we have in our pockets phones are very sophisticated, but it does not manage to make things really trivial.

  • Some iCal events disappear when in week view

    Hello all,
I recently had a double agenda booking. Today I found out why:
In week view some iCal events disappear... When i switch to month view, they reappear.
So, depending on the view i have open time slots. Not very reliable.
Anyone know what i can do to return to solid bookings again?
    Best regards
    Fred

Same problem here. I just imported everything from my old MacBook to my new one using Time Machine. My events appear in the Month view but not in the Week or Day views. So I went back to my old MacBook, created an iCal backup file, and emailed it to myself. Opened it on the new machine, restored from the backup file, and . . . same thing!
Very strange!! I need my daily events to be visible. Any help out there?

  • Found iCal events in Time Machine.  Now Lion only allowing me to import one event at a time.

Upgrade my macbook pro over the weekend to Snow Leopard and then Lion.   I lost all my the majority of my iCal events.   Went to Apple store and they said that was rare and not sure how to restore my last back up from Time Machine on an external drive.   I've been spending hours trying to go through a bunch of threads on different MAC formums.
So I finally found my iCal events in Time Machine.   When I try to import these events, I am only allowed to highlight/import one event at a time.   This will take me forever to import years of missing data.   I basically have been using my iCal to journal for my 3 small daughters - first tooth, hair cut, etc.   So I am desperate to get these events back so I can get them printed and SAFE.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to import my ics files?   The Apple Store Genius had me tryng to import the corestorage.ics files.   2 or 3 of those files showed they were trying to be imported for over 4 hours.   I finally Forced Quit iCal.   I've tried this several times and same result.
The corestorage files were under user/library/application support/ical/sources
I now located the calendar events user/library/calendars/ then a bunch of coded files leading to the events.  These events appear to be the ones I am looking for as I can read some of the files.   I have several years I want to import back into my working iCal.
Please help if you know how!!!
    Thank you,
Very Upset Mama of 3 little girls

Thomas - You are awesome - THANK YOU!
I did exactly what you said (CAN"T believe an Apple Genius did not know this) and I think all of my events got restored.
However, it duplicated all of the calendars - I have 6 (one for each family member plus an extra called home that we all have to do).   Not sure if I did something wrong, but do you have any ideas?
Also, the time setting must be wrong b/c I have events from 2008 showing up in 2012 - same day and time as the old sessoin - just out dated.    Do I need to manually change all of this?   Should I delete the Calendars folder again and try again?
Also, I read some where about deleting a iCal cache file.   Do I need to do this?
I TRULY appreciate you taking the time to help people in this forum.   I have spent hours the past two days trying to figure this out.   Plus, now I need to figure out about upgrading my Office for Mac b/c I didn't realize I lost Office 2004 when upgrading to Lion.
Thank you for your time and support!

  • ICal events being deleted when syncing with Palm Zire 21

I have been syncing my Palm Zire 21 with iCal successfully for over a year with few problems. A few weeks ago I noticed that almost, but not all of the events on both the Palm device and iCal more than three months old were gone. Then, a few weeks later, I noticed that the events suddenly were all back in the iCal application, but not on the Palm device.
But this week, I used HotSync (as usual) to sync iCal and the Palm device, and the events were gone again. Now I am wondering what on Earth I am doing to cause this. I have read the articles about setting up to sync. I double-checked to be sure I have been syncing the way that is outlined in the instructions in the help articles.
I must have missed something vital. I have been backing up my iCal to my .Mac account using Backup. I am thinking that I can restore the iCal events using my last backup. Can I? And how do I keep this from happening again?
    MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   "OS10.4.10" "iSync 2.4" "iCal 2.0.5" "Hotsync 3.1"

Found the issue for me. The events are not deleted, but filtered in the standard calendar view. The iPhone shows everything as it should. Outlook 2003 has all the events to as seen when going to categories view.
It seems that once events pass on the iPhone and then a sync via iTunes to Outlook 2003 the "All Day Event" field is removed from the calendar entry.
Creating another Day/Week/Month View in outlook 2003 that has a filter to only include calendar entries where the "All Day Event" field "does not exist" will allow viewing the "hidden" past events.
Hopefully this will be fixed VERY SOON.

  • Wants to delete my contacts + double posting iCal events and not syncing

    Hi everyone!
I hope you can help me.
I have an iPhone + MacBook + iMac and use MobileMe as well. My iphone was full which resulted in it not syncing with my computers. I double checked the settings and saw the "Info syncing" had been turned off for some reason, which I then turned on, and I checked the MobileMe settings as well.
So the situation is this now:
My iCal events are not getting synced to my computer from iPhone or MobileMe.
My iPhone has "double up" some events, meaning that I write them into the phone or my computer, they get uploaded to MobileMe, then synced back to my iPhone and thus appearing twice. I think these are the "old" events that were writing in before my MobileMe account was set up for syncing.
iSync wants to delete 195 contacts on my computers, without modifying or adding any. I did this with my iMac and sure enough some 195 contacts were deleted! Aw! How do I get these back?
My MacBook keeps prompting me with the some message, saying that syncing with MobileMe will delete 195 contacts, even though I have all these contacts present on my iPhone and my computer now.
I do not understand what is happening. I can send the contacts to my iMac and add them again, but I am afraid that these will then appear twice as well. Why can does calender on my iPhone show both the ones I write into the phone and from MobileMe? Shouldn't these be "synced" via MobileMe, so all I have to do is set it up and it should take care of itself? And why oh why does it want to delete 195 contacts? I think these are all my contacts apart from the 5 most recent which I wrote into the iPhone.
Can anyone help me? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
    Mc

    Hi,
I'm afraid you're asking in the wrong place. This is the iSync forum - which is for syncing contact and calendars to non-Apple mobile phones only. iSync doesn't sync between Macs or with MobileMe.
MobileMe syncing is handled by *MobileMe Sync*, and the forum for that is here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=957
However, you may need to reset your sync data. The process for that is described in this Apple Support Document:

  • Ical events deleted

I just got my first macbook the other day and hooked up my phone to it. I noticed my ical events were not coming up on the computer and when I looked at the calendar on my phone the events were all gone. I have not had the chance to set up time machine or anything since I had just gotten the computer and did not even have anything on it yet but there's gotta be a way to get the events back, please help! Thanks

I am in the middle of something like this, tho I use Mobile Me. Suddenly, all my calendars were colored blue and many of my events were missing.
Thanks to another post, I found the backup calendars on my TM: my user library > calendars (this is a folder). I don't know whether they moved it there with Leopard or Snow Leopard, but if that folder isn't there, try: user library > application support > ical The other post mentioned using the Sources folder.
Oddly, I'd like to get rid of my old events. Do you know how to do that?

  • ICal Events Gone. Disappeared. Vanished. Erased.

For some reason or another, my events are gone. All of them are gone. What, why, and how can I get them back?
If this happens again, I'm sticking with google calendar.

Well I solved he problem. It took me 3 hours. I deleted ALL iCal files from the system including all the reference files and in all he preference folders in the various users and libraries. Then I found an old copy of all the iCal stuff on a small USB drive (not bootable, not time machine- Carbon Copy Cloner) backup I happen to occasionally make as a spare backup of the system, that wasn't much more than a week old, and I copied ALL the icall files back from that drive,; then rebooted the system, Finally it seemed to recognize these old iCal files as the "new" iCal and I am back in business, I just have to fix and update all the entries by hand. It's fortunate I'm a nut and I actually back up my main system at least 5 different ways! I lost 3 backups at the same time!
Meanwhile here was the quote fromMacprofessionals to fix it:
    Good Morning Dr. Spitzer,
There are a few options we can do...
I can have one of the tech's call you, to see if we can resolve this over the phone. Or I can have him go on site to your location. You can also bring in your machine and we can take a look at it here at $105 hour.
If you choose to have a Tech come out to you it is $145 hour time starts when the technician leaves the office and is a minimum of one hour.
For phone support it is also $145 at 15 minute intervals.
Please let me know how you would like to proceed
    Thank you
    Cristal
So my repair job was worth $450 by their billing - what Apple cost me. And it would have been more if I billed my lost professional time. We need to start posting these equivalent $ values to these glithes so everyone including the companies starts to get a sense of the value of these bugs and errors to the customers. There have been many systems where I have spent 10 times the price of the computer working on glitches to get the system to do what I need it to do.
But there is a klugey gruesome work around for now, until Apple ever decides to think this might really be a problem to be fixed. Or will they call a bug a feature and charge for it?

  • Opening old ical from backup

I had backed up my computer onto an external & then created a new profile on my computer; which I have been using for several months.
I have synced my iPhone several times and added events to iCal, etc, however, I tried to open the iCal I have on my external and try to get them to sync together; but I keep getting the "You can't use this version of the application iCal with this version of Mac OS X You have iCal 4.0.4"
I REALLY want my old events from the old iCal on my external; can anyone help?!

    Hi,
The calendar data is stored in your User profile in ~/Library/Calendars in OSX 10.5.
The following solution does not take into account any syncing issues and as a precaution I'd suggest you make a backup using the option in iCal's File menu and then turn syncing off on any synced calendars before you do the following.
After closing iCal replace the '~/Library/Calendars' folder with your earlier backup and delete the 'calendar cache' file. When you open iCal it should rebuild the cache, which may take a few minutes.
    Best wishes

  • ICal Event Handling And Exchange

Okay. I'm having problems figuring out how iCal in Snow Leopard is handling meeting invitations. When I get a new meeting invite in Mail.app and I double-click on it, it creates an event in iCal. If I open that event, the popup gives me the option to click on "Maybe", "Accept", or "Decline". If I click on "Accept" the event window goes away and iCal comes back up.... but it doesn't appear to save my response. If I click on the event, it still shows me the same button options. This would all be fine... except for the following issue....
As long as an iCal event is in the "invitation" state, I can't change the event from it's default local calendar to the Exchange calendar. I can move it around within local calendars, but the Exchange options are not available from the pulldown menu. If I create a new event manually, then the Exchange options are available from the pulldown and I can move events to it just fine.
I can't figure out how to get invitations (1) accepted and saved as accepted and (2) moved to the Exchange calendar.
    Anyone have any ideas?

I've found a work-around that SORT of lets me function for now:
    1) Right click on the event.
    2) Select "Create Duplicate"
    3) Right-click on the new duplicate.
    4) You can now select your Exchange calendar to move it over.
    5) When you try to select the OLD event, iCal will REQUIRE that you send a notification out to the meeting invitees. This is ENTIRELY too inconvenient for me (as I work for Government and Army Colonels do NOT want my meeting spam) so I click on EDIT and then remove all the invitees and then save. This gets around the requirement to send the notice.
    6) THEN I can select the OLD event on my local calendar and delete it.
This is FAR from a good solution as it requires me to lose all the meeting attendee information AND there's something broken in the requirement to send the meeting notice out again for the duplicate.. but at least I can get events onto my Exchange calendar for now.

  • ICal event detail..

    Hi,
In the old ical version (pre-leopard), there was a drawer or window, with event details.
It had the time, notification, attendee's, etc.
I know you can now get event details by double clicking on the event but I liked the old style better. It was quick, easy and always visible.
Is there a way to have that drawer or window, turned back on ??
    Thanks,
    B

    B,
Is there a way to have that drawer or window, turned back on ??
Search Discussions with the term info drawer, and you will see plenty of evidence that it is not (currently) possible with the Leopard version of iCal.

  • Deleting old calendar events

Is there any way to delete old events from the calendar, eg. from 2007 back for instance? This includes iphone, mobileme and home computers.

Depends entirely on the calendar app you're using. On the iPhone, no. But, if you are syncing via iTunes, there's a checkbox to eliminate syncing of events older than a certain number of days. Outlook (Windows) has an archiving tool which can delete old calendar events. iCal (Mac) does not.

  • TS4062 iPhone 6 not syncing iCal events

I created a few events on my laptop & discovered they're not syncing with my iPhone 6+.  However, my iPad is updating events perfectly, so I don't think it's a router issue.  So, I conneced the cable between the laptop & the phone.  It performed a sync.  For some reason, the "WIFI sync w/ this device" option was turned off on my laptop, so I turned that one & followed the trouble-shooting instructions for problems w/ syncing w/ WIFI.  Turned off iTunes, turned my phone off & restarted.  Same problem except now my phone won't update ical events even when connected via a cable.   All my software is up to date on all devices.
    Ideas?

Hi I had time to call Apple today and it seems hopeless. The reason why my iPhone will not sync is that I have an old Macbook (1,1) which cannot handle a higher version of OS X than 10.6.8, which itself cannot handle a higher version of iTunes than 11.4.
With this version of iTunes I can load and install new versions of the iOS and it backs up the phone when I do so. But I cannot start a backup by pressing the Backup button, iTunes stops backing up after a second. Also, I cannot sync, the button is always greyed out.
It does not look like Apple intends to upgrade their software and iTunes for my Macbook anytime soon so it seems I am out of luck...
