Old icloud backup - has my old photos??

Help!
I had a problem with my first iPhone in April.  I took it to the apple store, and they gave me a new one.  The guy asked me if I used iCloud and I said I thought so.  Next thing I knew I had a new phone, but I lost all my photos! We had trouble connecting to iCloud and couldn't get anything to sync.  Now, looking on my iCloud, I can see that there is a backup on there from when I got a new phone, but I've had this new phone for almost 8 months now, and I don't want to lose all my new photos!  Can I recover the photos on there somehow?  I have been super bummed about losing all those pictures but I figured they were gone and there was nothing I can do.
I appreciate any help!  There are some precious photos on there.  I would love to have them back.

An awful lot of people are having this issue and for once the solution is just good old fashioned patience after deleting photos, turning the feed off which will delete the history of the feed, then switch back once that has been done.
Its taken me an hour to realise this lol !
Thanks pvonk !!

You'll have to do another restore from the old phone backup.  But before doing that, tell us what was not restored.  For example is it just photos that didn't get restored?  If so, that seems to be a common problem for many users, judging by the posts left in the forum.  There doesn't seem to be a solution to that problem (other then to tell users to ALWAYS sync photos to a computer and never trust an iCloud backup/restore to save photos.

    Hello, Anita.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are wanting to restore your new iPhone 6 from an iPhone 5 backup.  This sounds like the iOS version of your old iPhone 5 may be newer than what was installed on your iPhone 6.  Try going through the steps in the article below.
iOS: Unable to restore from backup of a newer device
I would also check to see the backup dates in iTunes and if the  backup is located on iCloud instead of iTunes.
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes
    Cheers,

  • ICloud backup has old non-email Apple ID, no longer have password

I'm unable to restore my iPhone 4/iOS 6.1.3 backup to my new iPhone 5/iOS 7.0
    Using my new iPhone 5s:
    1. In the Set up your iPhone screen, tap Restore from iCloud Backup.
    2. In in iCloud Sign In screen, I enter my email-based Apple ID and Password, then tap Return.
    3. In the Terms and Conditions screen, tap Agree. In the Terms and Conditions popup dialog, tag Agree again.
    4. In the Choose Backup screen, choose LATEST IPHONE BACKUP (Yesterday, iPhone (iPhone 4)).
The iPhone 5 now asks me for the the Apple ID password for my old, non-email Apple ID. When I enter the password for my current, email-based Apple ID, I get an alert: Could Not Sign In: Your Apple ID or password is incorrect.
I'm unable to reset my password using http://appleid.apple.com. When I use the email authentication approach, I never receive the email. When I use the Answer Security Questions approach, it prompts me for the montd, day and year of my birth. When I enter these, I get this message: The authentication information provided does not match our records. Please verify your personal information and try again.
So apparently my old iPhone 4 is backing itself up using an iCloud account that uses my current email-based Apple ID, but somehow the backups it saves use my old, non-email-based Apple ID, so I can't use them to restore to another device.
I'm not sure what I should try next. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I have exactly this issue. A few years ago I changed my Apple ID. No problem then or since then. But today when I try to restore my new iphone 5S from an existing back up - a back up which I created from my iphone 4 just a minute before using the same iCloud/Apple ID - it defaults to an old Apple ID (that I can't change) so when I enter my password (which is actually the same password as for the old Apple ID) it says can't restore from back up (specifically items purchased from iTunes) because the Apple ID and/or password is incorrect. I am like 'yeah, it's incorrect because you have defaulted to the wrong Apple ID doofus'. Any ideas?

  • Why does my iCloud Backup think my 70 photos (no videos) are a 1.7GB backup?

I got a message saying my iCloud backup is not going to fit in my free 5GB.  I went into my iCloud backup settings and found the Camera Roll was showing up at 1.7GB.  That's fine, I had four videos and like 250 photos.  Most of those were already moved into my laptop, so I deleted all the videos and all but 70 photos.  But when I check my iCloud backup settings, the Camera Roll still shows up as needing 1.7GB, and the next backup still will not fit.
The Camera Roll is by far the largest item in my backup, and I know if I can get it to accurately measure the space it's taking up, my backup will fit.
Any idea why 70 photos and no videos are showing up as needing 1.7GB for the next backup?

  • Restoring new iPhone 4S from iCloud backup has created an app sync nightmare with iTunes

I've restored my new iPhone 4S from iCloud and plugged it into my computer to sync over the apps so they wouldnt have to redownload via iCloud. Hit the initial ok dialogue button, which had an auto-sync apps option checkmarked under it (this was the only dialogue option and only checkmark). Now iTunes wants to reload all apps and erase app data.
The phone is peforming as expected, downloading the apps one-by-one from iCloud, however, I won't be able to sync the phone, as leaving apps sync checked will rewrite all apps (erasing app data and adding apps I don't want on my phone), and unchecking apps sync will delete all apps from the phone. I've tried removing the ~/Library/iTunes/ folder, hoping it would force iTunes to re-initialize the sync config. This didn't help at all.
Any suggestions? I really don't want to re-restore from iCloud, but thinking I'm gonna have to and hope that not checking the auto-sync apps (when the phone is plugged in for the first time) will fix the issue. It's rather mindnumbing that there doesn't appear to be a less painful option for the simple task of setting up a new device from an old device iCloud backup. Thanks in advance and I apologize if this is hard to follow.

Ok, so this is pretty infuriating. I've gone ahead and restored from iCloud again. This time when I plugged my phone into iTunes for the first time, I unchecked the option to automatically sync apps. As expected, the Apps are not set to sync now, however, the computer does not display the apps loading on the phone, so if I did go ahead and turn on App sync, I would end up losing all app data. It appears that I will have to let all apps redownload from iCloud before I can do anything regarding syncing with iTunes. I can't believe this is the only option. I suppose I could turn off iCloud backup on my iPhone 4, allow it to create a local backup, then local restore onto iPhone 4S, then turn on iCloud backup. That seems a little too band-aidish to me, though.

Edit: Yes, I have 10.7.2 and all available system updates as of today (10/14/11).

  • IPad 1 iCloud backup has stopped working

I have an iPhone 4S and an iPad 1 both of which backup to iCloud. All has been working well for a while now. A few days ago (30th November in fact) the iPad automatci backup failed to complete (There was a problem completing the backup. Please try again later.). The iPhone 4S is still backing up fine. I tried a mahnual backup on the iPad - same result. Then I tried truning off iCloud backup on the iPad, deleting the backup in Icloud, re-enabling it on the ipad and doing a manual backup (i.e. a new full backup). Same error; backup runs for several minutes (progress bar is over 75% complete) and then stops with this message.
This is clearly not a connectivity issue (my WiFi and Intetrnet conneciton are fine and I can backup my iPhone 4S with no problem) but something related to iCloud and/or the device.
Any suggestions for resolving this? For now I am having to backup to my PC but I would really like to get iCloud backup working again on my iPad.
    Chris

    Chris...
Try "resetting" a device when you have problems with a backup.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
And even though you don't think it's a connectivity issue, a connection can still time out with Wi-Fi during a backup.
This may also help. Tap Settings > General > Network > Reset Network Settings

My iphone says that icloud has not been backed up in 2 weeks...but after several attemps to back up, it continues to say "the latest backup did not complete"...I did have the phone plugged into my computer & connected to wi-fi..and it was locked...any idea why it won't complete the backup? it says total storage is 5.0 GB & available is 3.3 GB

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You might try a forced shutdown to begin with, hold down the top and home buttons together until the device shuts down, then restart it.
First check that your device is correctly connected to the wifi/internet (settings > wifi)
If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
If this doesn't help, try turning off some items for back up in a pattern to try to establish if your problem is being caused by specific data on your device.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • Why is my icloud user has a different photo of me?

i was signing in, to the icloud.com and then there's my uncle's photo [i think its should be mine]. another thing: that my uncle's profile ,in my contacts has a [like a empty profile photo]thing after his name. I tried to change my uncle's photo to mine from the [icloud.com] to me but instead it changed my uncle's photo.i think the empty profile avatar thing means its the owner or some thing.sooo please help me try to change this empty profile avatar thing to the right position

    More from the original poster
I'll try to explain more clearly.
The photos i have a problem with were taken on someone else's digital camera.
In the Photoshop CS browser, I see a picture of a house.
When i double click it, it opens as a picture of a tree.
If i close it, it is again a picture of a house , but only in the browser.
If I doubleclick the image (house) , which opens as a tree, and "save as", it saves as a tree, and the "saved as" image re-opens as a tree, as you would expect.
SO, I only see the house in the Photoshop browser.
In the Windows Explorer browser, the original picture displays as a tree, not as a house.
If I email the image to myself, it appears as a tree and opens as a tree (so there's no point posting a sample, because you would only see the picture of the tree- you only see the house if you look over my shoulder at the Photoshop CS browser with the unopened picture displayed.
If I insert the image into a Word document, it appears as a tree.
The result is that I cannot use the image of the house, because it is only a house when viewed unopened in the Photoshop CS browser.
So (in the Photoshop browser only) there are two images in each picture, but only one of these is accessible (ie, the tree).
The double picture only occurs in photos from my friend's  Canon Digital Ixus 500 camera, so I'm guessing it could be a camera-specific problem. But I sure would like to know what the problem is, and why Photoshop CS seems to be fooled by the weird double picture.

  • My iPad is froze with a screen saying icloud backup has not been backed up in two weeks...

My ipad is froze with a message saying int has been two weeks since I update my icloud.

    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

  • ICloud Backup has locked my iPad

I have this message on my screen " iPad Backup  This iPad hasn't been backedup in 2 weeks. Backups happen when this iPad is plugged in, locked, and connected to wifi" When I hit "OK" nothing happens and the message doesn't disappear.

Found the answer in this forum
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons."

  • How can I recover photos from old iphone icloud backup to new one?

Hello, I had an iPhone 4 which I lost and inside there were some great photos that I want now to recover. In the meanwhile I bought an iPhone5S and I just realized that inside the iCloud backup menu is saying that there is a backup of 3GB of my old iPhone. How can I see if in that backup the photos are there? I have connected my iPhoto App to iCloud but it only finds photos from my new iPhone and not the old one...
    Thanks for your time.

Hi, Tiago, maybe you can get help from data recovery software. Now things get easy now.
As far as I know, there are three ways to recover deleted contacts and photos from iPhone 5 with iPhone Data Recovery.
Way 1: Recover deleted photos from iPhone directly
Way 2: Using iTunes Backup to recover deleted photos
Way 3: Using iCloud Backup to recover deleted photos
You can refer the way 3 of how to recover deleted photos from iPhone to recover photos from  old iPhone iCloud backup.
    Good luck to you.

  • My daughter accidentally restored her ipod4 to factory settings so I restored from the last iCloud backup. Her photos were all on camera roll so I believe should have been backed up, but none of them have been restored. Why?

My daughter accidentally reset her ipod4 to factory settings so I restored from the last iCloud backup. All her photos were on camera roll so I believe they should have automatically been backed up, but none have been restored. Why?

When she plugged in the ipod last night it backed up again so that now shows as the latest backup. No previous backups are listed so I do not seem to have the option to rerun the old one. She had many pictures on the camera roll taken from well before July. I can only presume that the backup in July must have been incomplete - but then I didn't think it was supposed to list as an option to restore from. Luckily many of the photos had been backed up on the pc but I am very frustrated as to why the icloud backup didn't protect them. Thank you for your advice though, I appreciate it.
