Old iDVD projects won't load correctly!

Hi,
A few years ago I bought a Titanium Powerbook and made many iDVD projects with it in iDVD 4 and iDVD 5. I recently migrated all my stuff over to my new Intel Mac. I tried opening my old projects in iDVD 6, but it says it doesn't have the theme I used (Sky), so it reverts to the 'Travel' theme and all the fonts and placement of menus is screwed up. Can someone please help me? I've spent countless hours on all of these old projects and would like to retrieve them on my new Mac. I almost always used 'Sky' because it was a simple theme where I could just drop all of menu screens I created in Photoshop. Re-creating each menu all over again would be unbearable!
Thanks!

SKY is one of the very old themes that dates before iDVD 3.
As you have found out, it is not included in the iDVD versions that come with new machines.
Do you still have your Ti book?
Apple has changed the location of the iDVD themes - in iDVD 4 and earlier, the themes are in the application package. That changed - I think in iDVD5 and they are in another location in the Library.
If you still have your old machine, there is a very slight chance you might be able to use the extracted Sky theme in newer versions.
Otherwise, you need to bite the bullet and redesign your projects. Green linen is fairly plane and you might be able to use it as a basis for your redesigned themes.

  • Trouble opening up old iDVD projects after upgrading

Forgive me if this has been discussed but I took a quick look through the messages and I didn't find what I needed.
I have some old iDVD projects that do not open under iDVD 6.01 (yes, I have the update.) It is as if my old themes (specifically "Baby Blue") have been erased. Is there some way to download them from the Apple site?
Also, if I may, I want to pick a nit about iDVD. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it is wrong for the program to force you to use a pre-defined theme, even if it is customizable to the point of non-recognizition. If you somehow loose the old template or move the file to a new machine with no old templates, you're screwed unless you want to go through all the work of redoing your project.
    Thanks.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Many people have had troubles with older projects opening in iDVD 6...including my one left-over project that was finished.
This is one reason you should finish a project, create a disk image, save the disk image, before "upgrading."
If you somehow loose the old template or move the file to a new machine with no old templates, you're screwed unless you want to go through all the work of redoing your project.
If you creat an Archive of the project, it should contain everything you need.

I have deleted the last few moviesimported (despite the fact these worked and were later exported)
iMovie will load on another acct thati created, but wont be able to work with whats imported into this acct unless ire upload?
iMovie does start up, i see all myclips i have imported, but none of my projects won't load.

I have had the same problem and found that if I opend up iPhoto where the videos were placed from, it cleared up the problem. Crazy, huh? Plus, you have to make sure that the iPhoto account is opened to the correct one...this is done by Option Clicking on iPhoto and choosing which account you have the active videos in.

  • Several image-hosting sites won't load correctly - what is going on?

slow dial-up, photobucket pages won't load correctly - tested other hosting sites, same problem - they look like they timed out or got disconnected mid-load. Problem started several months ago - prior to that PB loaded slow, but always worked.
also have some trouble veiwing imgur images posted on discussion forums.
have not noticed any other websites giving trouble, but I don't surf around much. have done all kinds of things as directed by PB help people, advice here on Firefox, all updates are complete, no extensions or add-ons, scanned, cleared, refreshed, etc etc etc. security is malwarebytes and MS Security Essentials.
Problem also happens in IE, so what else can I do? is it just my slow connection? why did it suddenly start happening? connection speed (crawl) is the same as always. help! thank you!

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • IDVD 08 won't load or open... WHY? please help!

I've tried everything I read on the forums and nothing had worked. I have r=trashed idvd themes 1-4 and the preference file from the harddrive and still nothing. I click on iDVD and the opening window comes up, I can choose any of the options and then it will "Load Themes" for endless amounts of time. I've even left it on or hours and it won't quit, load, give error message, nothing! It will just load themes forever. I can click the file menu and everything will be unavailable (grey), even the Quit option so then all I can do is force quit. Please help. I haven't reset permissions because I don't know what that mean and don't want to mess up my machine.
Anyone with help or who has experienced the same problem please, I really need to get this working.
    Thanks a lot!
    Lizzy

Don't know if this will help but I bought iLife 08 when it first came out and couldn't load it properly. Tried the usual fixes listed here on the forum but tonight I got it to finally load correctly. I followed the Apple fix from late last fall by deleting the iDVD themes 1-4 from the hard drive under Library/Application Support/iDVD themes/DVD 1,2,3 & 4. Then deleted from my home directory Library/Application Support/iDVD/Installed Themes and also Library/Caches/com.apple.idvd. I tried to open iDVD 08 as instructed but just got the themes loading and nothing. Rather than trying to re-install themes 1-4 from the 08 install disc, I quit iDVD and I went to Software update to re-install the old themes and get the updated fix. It took about an hour but after restarting when the update was completed, voila . . iDVD 08 came up perfectly. Hope this may help if all else fails.

  • Idvd project won't burn, have I lost my suoerdrive ???

Hi, firstly I'd just like to say I'm an idiot, here's why
I had a large important movie to edit (22gb) in idvd4 on an emac. Did all the work in i movie, sent to idvd but wouldn't burn as I had too little disk space. So I exported from i movie to QT pro and then exported to QT movie and compressed the file , then brought back in to idvd at a suitable size. All good everything working in idvd ( except chapter markers )
Anyway heres the problem, to free up some disk space I previosely deleted loads of stuff I didn't need or use on the computer however I think I may have erased my superdrive/dvd burner using the disk utility. When I look in finder it is just showing the hard drive ? Is this permanent or can I somehow retrieve the situation.
Can I use the restore function in disk utility? How can I see if my superdrive is working correctly or is even there at all ? the dvd player seems to work ok.
What is happening at the moment is everything goes fine with encoding etc but when it comes to saying insert blank disc it just keeps popping them back out asking for a blank disc again. I have tried loads of different discs.
I have an external burner but using toast it won't recognise the idvd project.
This is an important project for me which has took me days to sort so any help greatly appreciated
    Thanks

    Good morning,
Bengt has good suggestions, so work with his ideas (and you may find your superdrive is just fine, especially since DVDs still play on it). It sounds like you have several things going on.
As he says, first of all, you'll need space on your boot drive for iDVD to work. Your iMovie project and your iDVD project could have been created on an external drive (I use a Firewire drive, and don't know if a USB 2.0 drive would be fast enough). You can recreate your iDVD project and save it to the external drive, but I don't think I'd move the iMovie project at this point because iMovie may get confused where the source files are (anyone have experience with this?).
Second topic - iDVD doesn't want us to compress files and it will attempt to convert anything you give it into the standard DVD format of mpeg-2. iDVD "cares" about length, not the file size. For videos up to an hour, use the Best Performance setting in iDVD preferences. For longer productions, use Best Quality (I don't remember when Apple changed that algorithm from a 90 min max to a 120 min max).
Third topic - your loss of chapter markers is probably the result of exporting and converting, so another reason not to do the file compression.
Fourth topic - disk rejects. This could be a variety of factors (dusty burner, bad or incompatible disks, a Finder setting, etc.). I'd start by using high quality disks (Verbatim DVD-R is often recommended, I also use Sony DVD-R; don't use +R or rewritable disks unless your drive specifically handles them, and note that they are generally less compatible than -R disks).

  • IDVD project won't open

I've been working on an iDVD 06 project which is relatively complex - a number of submenus and short movies (it's 4.4Gb archived). iDVD 06 won't open it: it opens the iDVD window, takes a long time loading themes then the header bar says Loading Project, but it doesn't get any further and then crashes. I've tried trashing all the iDVD-related preferences and caches I can find to no avail. I've tried opening the project on another machine (an iMac G4) and the same problem arises.
I really don't want to have to start this project again from scratch - any ideas? Or if I do have to start from scratch, what should I avoid doing to prevent a recurrence?

    Welcome to discussions, Tom
Does this project reside on an external drive that is not formatted OS X extended?

  • Mail start page won't load correctly

When I try to add CNN as my start page, it will not load correctly. I tried to change to fox news and it has an issue with the "System Error: Domain name mismatch". Other sights will not load properly as well.
I have used Mozilla for many years and never had this problem. It just started one day. I have not changed anything on my system.
    Thank you for your help.

hello KatyG, other users with this problem all had an embedded intel hd3000 graphics card with an old driver present. in case this also applies to you, here would be a link to update the driver, which in turn should also address the black firefox problem: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23764 (for win7 64 bit)
in case this doesn't solve the issue or does not apply to your system, start firefox into safemode '''by pressing the shift key while the application is launching''' & disable hardware acceleration in the firefox ''menu ≡ > options > advanced > general'' (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).

  • Project won't load after upgrade to 10.1.3

    Howdy,
I'm working on a series of videos, each in a separate project, but all in the same library.
I did the bulk of the editing in 10.1, but recently upgraded to 10.1.3. FCPX did it's usual "update projects and events" routine when I opened the library in 10.1.3 for the first time. All my projects appear to be fine, except one...
This project is about 30 minutes long, with a handful of different clips – nothing huge...  but it won't load. I get the spinning beach ball for a few minutes, then a system alert saying I've run out of application memory. I check Activity Monitor, and sure enough, FCPX is using over 12GB of RAM! It seems FCPX gets stuck in some sort of loop while trying to load this project, and I'm not sure what to do about it... Any help would be appreciated.
    System info:
    iMac
    OSX 10.9.5
    3.5GHz Core i7
    16GB RAM

OK, I think I resolved my issue. I hadn't noticed that there was one missing media file in the project that wouldn't open. I didn't notice because normally, FCPX would open the project and swap a "missing media" icon for the absent file in the timeline, but in this case it simply refused to open the project. I re-imported the missing file, and now there are two of them in my media browser. If I delete any one of them, they both disappear... Odd.
In any case, my project opens now and that's good. What I don't understand is what happened to that missing file in the first place. I didn't delete it or move it. It seems to have been kicked out of the FCPX database upon upgrade to version 10.1.3, which by itself is a little troubling... and I fear there may still be similar database issues that I haven't discovered yet lurking in other projects
Here's hoping all of FCPX's "growing pains" get resolved soon.
    Thanks for your help, Russ.

  • Netflix website won't load correctly on new Macbook pro.

The Netflix WEBSITE isn't loading correctly on my new macbook pro. The < > arrows used to scroll through movies on the homepage don't seem to be working. When you click/hover over them nothing happens. Also, the title and description box that usually appears when you hover your mouse over a movie isn't showing up either...and lastly the box where you can filter the movies you want to see in a specific category "Ex. "Dark comedies, Romantic comedies, Foregin Comedies etc.." isn't showing up.
Im assuming this is an issue with either safari or the macbook itself because I don't know what else it could be. I tried clearing all cookies,
cache, and history but it didn't help. The movies are streaming fine it's just the website that messed up. All other websites seem to be working fine though.

Probably a Java issue.  Try another browser and also try loading Java from www.java.com.  BTW, the current version won't run properly in Safari, so you'll probably end up running FireFox anyway.

  • Some projects won't load full screen view?!?

I have about 10 projects (out of 130) that won't load in the full screen view if I enter the project and then try to enter full screen. The areas around the Aperture program window (menu bar and dock) turn black as if it were in full screen but the program window just sits there doing nothing as if I never clicked to enter full screen. If I try push F to exit full screen, the black disappears but my dock and menu bar do not return. At this point, I can't click on other projects and have to quit the program (just normal command-Q works fine) and re-open it to do anything.
What is strange is that if I click to view all my projects, enter full screen, and then double click on one of them that is giving me this problem, it will load the pictures fine. But it seems to hang up when I try to go to another project and I have to quit the program.
The 10 projects are all pictures taken within a 1 week trip and they include between 50-100 jpeg images each. They were imported into Aperture as part of my iPhoto library. No other pictures that came from iPhoto have this problem.
Things I have tried to fix the problem:
    1. Repair permissions on library and system
    2. Rebuild library
    3. Export originals from iPhoto and import into Aperture as a new project
    Any suggestions?
Edited to Add: If I double click a picture so it loads into "Viewer" mode, it seems to enter full screen mode fine when I press F, but the system hangs up and bogs down badly when I try to jump to another problem project from full screen mode. The Activity window says it's loading, but it never does. If I click on anything else, it just continues to say it's loading the first project I tried to switch to.

I have 4 GB of RAM in a 2.2 Ghz Santa Rosa MBP.
I don't believe it's an issue of needing to wait for it to load because it loads other projects perfectly. These 10 projects only have 50-100 jpegs (1.8 MB average file). I can enter and exit projects with 200 RAW files (5 MB average file) with absolutely no delay.
Additionally, it will never load the project. It will say it's loading in the Activity Window but never complete. I can't click to load anything else as the program basically locks up. But it's not really locked because I can Command-Q to exit and it closes properly.

  • Moving new movie to old idvd project?

I have re-worked my iMovie project and shared it to iDvd.   I wanted to insert the new project to the older iDvd project since I alreadt created a menu.  But i can't find any way to do so.  Instead I tried to create the same menu in the new project but I'm stuck on the music, it won't let me play it.  It shows the length of the menu as 15 sec and the volume is at mute.  The audio symbol has no sound waves so I know it needs to be changed but when I click on the symbol nothing happens.  This is really screwy.  Any suggestions?

I doubt that they would be backward compatible...

  • Projects won't load

so i have been using iMovie a lot lately and have been satisfied with it. opened it one day and it suddenly won't load projects, so i deleted it then downloaded it off the app store (tried turning it off and on) once i turn on iMovie it "loads projects" and gives me the color wheel. the only thing i can do is force quit. any ideas?

I have had the same issue over the last couple of days.  Imovie just doesn't load up for me.  I tried trashing the preference/plist but it still doesn't respond.  any solutions?

  • IDVD project won't open any longer

    Hi,
I experience the following very frustrating problem with iDVD '08 (7.0.1):
I am currently working on an iDVD project that includes 5 elements in the main menu:
    3 iMovie HD projects/movies
    2 iDVD Slideshow
Everything worked wonderfully until 2 days ago. I was about to edit the last details and then wanted to burn the project on DVD. I closed iDVD to do stuff in iMovie HD and later wanted to open the iDVD project again. But iDVD would hang completely and not open the project at all. Only Force Quit would help.
When I double click on a different iDVD project iDVD opens fine that's why I believe something must got corrupted with iDVD project rather than my iDVD installation.
I deleted the iDVD preference file (as I had read in some thread) but that didn't solve the problem.
Could someone please help!! I need to finish and burn my DVD since it's a birthday gift for next week ...
    Thanks in advance!

Since I don't want to waste my time, I just uninstalled and reinstalled iDVD following the steps in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1416193&start=15&tstart=15
Result: iDVD hangs whenever I open my project. The reinstall didn't change anything. Also, my other iDVD project opens fine (as it did before the reinstall).
    Who could help me? Please!!

  • Safari and firefox won't launch and explorer opens but won't load correctly

    Hi
Something weird is happening to our emac!
Got home yesterday after a few days away and all the apple aps have stopped working
Safari and itunes won't launch at all - they just bounce a couple of times in the dock - then nothing.
Firefox won't launch either - the only browser I can get to launch is explorer - and that won't load properly.
I've tried the software update - it says there's now software - but 'unexpectedly' quits if i try to download anything.
In desperation overnight I re-installed the software from the software restore discs - but this morning it's no better.
I saw a thread earlier that suggested that rogue fonts might be to blame - which could be something because the only page that loads in explorer displays strangely with the fonts all over the place.
Any advice that someone could give would be much appreciated
    thanks x

    HI,
*"In desperation overnight I re-installed the software from the software restore discs - but this morning it's no better."*
Better check the startup disk for errors.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space.
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode
