Old inaccessible Apple ID stuck in Mac App Store

I have a hand-me-down Macbook Pro from my uncle, who used the computer before me himself. He has his own Apple ID and i have my own as well. My uncle had his ID used on the computer for Final Cut Pro X and Angry Birds, among other apps. I deleted all of the content that was based on his account from the computer when he gave it to me other than Final Cut Pro X. However for a long time now Angry Birds has been a part of his account and still shows up in my Mac App Store. For as long as I can remember, that little red badge with the 1 on it has been hanging on the Mac App Store logo for Angry Birds. It's a really long story, but the point is the email and the ID itself are as far as I know, inaccessible, the Apple ID is disabled with no hope of retreival, and that godforsaken Angry Birds 2.1.0 update is stuck there forever. I've tried deleting the Mac App Store's plists with the following commands in Terminal:
rm -r ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
rm -r ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.storeagent
rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist
rm ~/Library/Cookies/com.apple.appstore.plist
I've tried uninstalling the Mac App Store, which lead to me having to reinstall all of Mac OS X, I've tried deleting the only app from that account I have, Final Cut Pro X, and every possible combination of the above mentioned, but no matter what, Mac App Store still thinks I need to update Angry Birds. Please, someone, anyone, help me. I've never hated Angry Birds, Mac App Store or that red update badge more in my life.

Is it really your uncle's Apple ID that is appearing with the update, or is it a stranger's Apple ID appearing?
If it is a stranger's ID, then you have a pirated app.

  • Theres an old apple id stuck in my app store so I can't update

I have signed in and out of both itunes and the app store, and both indicate I am signed in with my current apple id, yet when I go to download updates from the app store it asks me for a password for an old apple id and I cannot modify the id field, so it is stuck in there.
    Any thoughts?

That was the problem, thanks. I deleted those apps so now I don't get the request to update them, as they were downloaded by the previous owner.
    Cheers.

  • Deleting an unknown apple ID from my mac / app store.

The guy who set up my mac downloaded some apps with his apple ID, and then deleted them. They are apps he uses on his machines I believe. Although they are deleted, Appstore always wants me to update them. I can't even download them and then re-delete them it seems, as it thinks another account already has them on here apparently.
App store seems a half-baked idea Too 'clever', but not intelligent.
What can I do to get rid of these unusable update reminders? [Apart from reinitialising the HDD]

At least in my version - Snow Leopard - The App Store does create a cache in your user library.
As the App store crashed on me last time I looked at it - deleting the cache corrected problems.
I have Intego Washing Machine - which is an easy way to see what you can delete - the cache is recreated in a snap.
So that is what I used to get rid of it as the software shows you what caches you may want to delete to correct a problem.

  • Mac App Store app does not install. How do I get a refund?

I purchased an app from the Mac App Store (Connect360 - $20).  I "installed" the app from the Mac App Store.  The app appears on the dock and loads, but when it's done, it disappears from the dock.  The app is not located in the Applicaitons menu like it should be.  When I return to the Mac App store app and go to PURCHASED, the app is listed there again with the INSTALL button ready to go to be installed.  I've gone through this now 2 or 3 times and the app doesn't ever install.
I followed all the links from the Mac App store to the developers website and after digging down into the comments found that others have had this problem as well.  I contacted the developer and they said this was a "Mac App store bug that Apple is aware of and to please contact Apple."  I have not found anywhere to properly report this and feel very frustrated that I keep getting sent in link circles from one place on the Apple website to the Mac App store and back again.
I had previously tried the "trial" version from the developer and loved it.  I followed all the instructions to "uninstall" the app before installing the Mac App store app as well. I thought it would be nice to have purchased the app through the Mac App store so it was tied to my account, but no suck luck.
Anyone know the proper procedure for requesting a refund or point me in the direction to get answers on how to get my $20 back?

Install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
Then reinstall the app > Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Your only recourse for a refund if you can't get the app installed correctly is from the developer, not Apple.

  • I am trying to re-install OSX onto my second hand MacBook - I need to redeem my OSX purchase on the Mac App store

I need to get the OSX redemption code logged into my App le ID account for the OSX re-install to work.
I cannot log onto the App Store from my MacBook and I have no other Apple devices.
The Mac App Store only allows log on from an OSX device.
My friend is concerned that if I log on to the App Store with my credentials it will corrupt his iMAC (used to run his business) - is this an issue?
If not, when the redemption code is entered, I trust this won't overwrite his existing OSX?
Will this get my MacBook re-istalled once we get the redemption code in?
Thank you very much for helping

I cannot log onto the App Store from my MacBook and I have no other Apple devices.
As long as you're running OS X, 10.6.6 or later, you should be able to.
My friend is concerned that if I log on to the App Store with my credentials it will corrupt his iMAC (used to run his business) - is this an issue?
Absolutely not. He would have to login to your App Store account before anything could possibly happen.
If not, when the redemption code is entered, I trust this won't overwrite his existing OSX?
It won't change his computer any more than logging into your account will change my Mac, or anyone else's.
Will this get my MacBook re-istalled once we get the redemption code in?
You'll have to explain this further. What version of OS X is your Mac running now? What model MacBook do you have?

  • Logging in to Mac App Store on different Mac to install Lion?

Hey there folks, I hope this question isn't too confusing. I also hope it's not against any forum policies. I have two MacBook Pros and one of them is currently used by my mother. I gave it to her as a gift and upon giving it to her, I signed her in to her own Apple ID for the Mac App Store so she can buy her own apps. My question is- Could I log in to the Mac App Store with my ID for the purpose of installing Lion on her Mac, but then log her back under her own account? And if I do this, will it screw up Lion? Thanks in advance for any help!

    Short answer: Nope.
The user agreement allows you to install the software on as many devices as you like <provided> they are all using the sam Apple ID. If you were to login to your own account in order to redownload Lion onto your mother's computer, you'd have a problem logging her back into her own ID. She'd lose access to apps and her iTunes-purchased content.

  • Getting Error Code 13 with Mac App Store on OS X Lion

    Hey all,
I just updated my Macbook to Mac OS X Lion. Now whenever I go into Mac App Store, I can log into my Apple ID but cannot redownload any of my previous purchases.
I continue to get the error 13 for any of my downloads. I've tried rebooting my Mac, logging out and back into my Apple ID on the Mac App Store.
    Nothing works. Any idea?

    I figured it out.
I signed up for another Apple ID account within the Mac Apple Store. After completing the validation, I logged into the new account then logged out.
Closed down the Mac App Store and relaunched it. Then I logged in using my original Apple ID with all my purchases linked to it.
I'm now available to download items fine without error. I hope this helps others with the same issue.

  • Mac App Store error message

Hello. I've successfully purchased a number of apps through the App Store and app updates are installing just fine... but... when I click on the UPDATE buton for OS X Lion (I purchased it), one of two things happens:
    1. I get an error message saying "An error has occurred" and it doesn't update.
    2. I get back a message indicating that it was purchased under a different Apple ID, but I know for a FACT that I have used one and only one Apple ID for all Mac App Store and iTunes Store purchases.
It's odd that OS X Lion successfully updated from 10.7.0 to 10.7.1, but the installer won't update.
    Suggestions? Ideas?

I've had numerous issues with the app store myself.  Purchased a new macbook air three days ago and set it up with a brand new app id, I don't buy stuff from the app store but you pretty much must have an id.  It tells me that I should update iPhoto and iMovie, so I click on there to update them and get the same error message as you, telling me that the apps are under a different account.
Bam out of luck, been round and round with email support.  They indicated in the last email that Apple is aware of the issue at least.

  • Can't follow a link to the mac App Store

If I click on a link that will be taking me to the mac app store (not the itunes one) I end up at "install the app store..."
I have it installed, I can be logged in and still I cannot follow a link, I end up having to search for whatever I was aiming for manually.
All my software is up to date, my machine is a newish iMac.

I don't have one to hand, sorry, but I will see what I can find.
Okay, just googled one - http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/compartments/id402352687?mt=12
I click on the "view in the mac app store" and it takes me to http://www.apple.com/mac/app-store/?id=402352687  which for me is the Apple page describing the Mac App Store and advising me to download and install it.

  • Problema Mac App Store su Macmini

    Ciao a tutti,
    Grazie
    Andrea

Translation:    on the macmini of my daughters, (last model before restyling the total) calmly turns Mac Appstore, on one of the two but, when I go to unload un' application, not ago jams on the classic colorful little ball and more nothing. I have quite tried to rifare the system but without happening. You have idea from what can depend?
Controlli il dispositivo di piegatura di applicazioni per vedere se c'è il app. Se it' s non là allora seguire le istruzioni a questo collegamento al re trasferimento dal sistema centrale verso i satelliti.
Check the Applications folder for the app. If it's not there then follow the instructions at this link to re download.

  • How do I install snow leopard from the email/pdf Apple sent me if I dont have the Mac App store?

I need to update my Mac to snow leopard.  I purchased it online, and they sent me an email with the redemption code.  The instructions say I have to redeem it from the Mac App Store, but since you have to have Snow Leopard or higher to get the Mac App Store, I don't know how to redeem my purchase....please help.

You have half of the equation. Buy Snow Leopard and when the DVD arrives you use it to upgrade your Leopard system or erase the drive and install a clean copy of Snow Leopard. If you decide to do the former then be sure you use Disk Utility to repair the hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If you choose the latter do the following:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Sign into the App Store with your Apple ID and password. Click on the Featured icon in the toolbar. On the right below Quick Links you will see the Redeem link. Click on it to redeem Mountain Lion.

The first step in Upgrading... is to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
Snow Leopard Tech Specs  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard and iTunes.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...
