Old InDesign 2.0 file - possible to convert?

I am trying to open an old student project from about '03 or '04. It is a lovely project which I like to use as an example, but the print copy I have has been damaged and I would like to print a new one. I have the original file on a disk, but I am unable to open it. The error says it was created with a "pre-release" version of the program. From what I have read on various forums, I understand the student may not have used a legal copy of the program. As this was many years ago, and I would prefer to give the student the benefit of the doubt, I am wondering if it would be possible to have this file converted? I might be willing to pay for the service, if that is an option.

Wouldn't the easiest way to get the file, or a usable version of the file be to track down the student (Facebook and LinkedIn etc.) and ask if they still have a copy? I still have a file of sample graphic work from high school that I probably should have thrown out. It may be the quickest way, even if they don't have the original file, they may have a PDF or high quality jpg that might prove suitable enough for printing.Or better still, they may have a print version in a box that they could send over.

I can't save an old InDesign file to the new version. I keep getting this message:
I can only save the file as .IDML.This happens to ALL old InDesign files on my iMac (problem does not happen on my Macbook pro). I have saved the files as .idml and opened them again. I get the same error when I try to save the file as .indd. They can ONLY be saved as .idml.
I never embed images and do not have font issues (file was created on the same iMac as it is being opened on now).
Sometimes I get an error when I first try to open an old file - it ays the file is damaged and can't be opened. I try again right after and it opens fine. -

I use FCP7 and often have a sound loop or the like that I need in AIFF format, I normally use itunes to do the conversion, but have heard that version 10 no longer performs this task...?

It sounds to me like you're using Reader, not Acrobat. Make sure you open
the PDF file in Acrobat, and then go to File - Save As Other - Microsoft
Word.

You can use iTunes or QuickTime Pro to convert an MP3 file into an AIF file for use in FCE. But convert to a text file? I don't think so. How do I create a Table of Contents in InDesign CS6 for a print book that easily converts to epub?
Can anyone point me to a link for a step-by-step (not a video) on setting up all the elements of a print book properly (pages, table of contents and index) so they will convert and reflow perfectly from print to epub in InDesign CS6. This is not about building an ebook from ground up, but taking 50 backlisted print books (converted from old versions of Quark to InDesign) that now need to be converted to epub formats.
OR could someone point me to the link in the Adobe InDesign CS6 support that explains how to create a Table of Contents for a print book (5.5" x 8.5", 288 pages), one that will convert when the file is converted to ePub (for MAC OSX)?
Just downloaded the 706 page inDesign CS6 reference manual from Adobe <http://helpx.adobe.com/pdf/indesign_reference.pdf> but there's not even a search feature on the pdf file.
Up until this week, we have only done print books, creating the TOC the old fashioned way, as a fixed page, comprised of two columns: page numbers and chapters/subject. The files I have created are taken by our printer and printed beautifully.
However, when I convert the same book to epub in CS6, the character and paragraph styles converted beautifully - but everything else is all over the place! The table of contents is on different pages, the columns split apart. That goes for the page contents as well - everything is all over the place. when it's converted to a pdf -- total perfection. Never any problems converting with perfection to pdf format and reading those on the various readers.

Why Indesign CS6 keeps opening the same old Indesign documents multiple times?
I just installed the Indesign CS6 trial version before I purchase the professional version. I opened one of my old Indesign file from CS5 and a weird thing is hapenning on Indesing CS6. Everytime I click on the page or tab of the Indesign file that I am working on (test.indd, see attached), a new file is created from a different Indesign CS5 file (edu_lipper_conv_backpage.indd, see attached). Indesign CS6 will not stop duplicating this file until and force quit Indesign CS6. Attached is a screen shot with additional information about what is happening. Thanks, Jeneffer
Try a clearer explanation, please. Your original post claims that the windows with old converted documents are spawned whenever you click on a page or tab; your most recent post cliams that it happens only in the digital publishing workspace when you create a button. Does it not happen in another workspace?
Why do you have to force quit? Doing so with files open will cause files to re-open from your Recovery folder, so you should stop force quitting ID and quit the normal way. That is what the Recovery folder is for, after all - to automatically re-open docs that were open when ID crashes, or when you force quit.
I have to agree with you, though - I think it's a bug, too, that has to do with how Lion works. You may have to wait for a patch to be released by Adobe (or Apple!), or you may have to reinstall CS6. I don't know if it will help, but you could try replacing your preferences first. -

It seems you already have your script in AppleScript. Why do you need to convert it to JavaScript?

Is it possible to convert text captions to Smart Shapes?

I have a collegue that is using Cp 5 to record software simulations which then need to be brought into Cp6. The problem is that our standards (for software simulations) employ Smart Shape call outs (not the Cp 5.5 and earlier text captions).
Is it possible to convert these text captions into our themed Smart Shapes either automatically inside Captivate 6 or by modifying the content within the CPTx file?

Actually, I am asking before the simulations get started. So nothing has been done yet. I am unsure what you are suggesting I should do in the preferences under Cp 5.5. Are you suggesting that there is a way to convert 'some format' of text callouts, in a Cp5.5 demonstration simulation, to Smart Shapes in Cp6?

Using an old iBook as a file server...
Okay. So, right now I'm using an old Apple iBook G3. It's a Dual-USB 800 MHz version. It's running Panther 10.3.9...
In the near future (Two months, maybe) I'll be purchasing a new Macbook. I don't want to just pawn off my old mac, or throw it out (Everyone I know has new PC's. Giving them an old mac would be useless).
Plus, I know that once I move all the files I think I need on it, and toss it out, BAM! I'll realize I forgot a folder or something else on it. So what I want to know is...
Is there any way that I can use this old iBook as a file server in any way? I've seen such things as "Back to My Mac" which does what i want it to, but (of course) is a leopard-to-leopard only feature. Is there any way that I can let this iBook sit on my home network (Wired in, if need be) and reach it from... say... Rochester?

My challenge is to develop a web-app in ADF Faces. Now i verify some technologies to store mailmerge letters in an easy way. The user of my web-app should upload a MS Word mailmerge document and a csv data source file. My web-app must thereupon convert this two files to a pdf per csv-row and store it to a ftp.
I have build a demo using the open office API. But now i want to try the same by using apache POI and FOP. I can merge the doc files with POI and i can create PDF with FOP.
My problem is, that POI cant convert to a rtf file and FOP uses an rtf file to create a pdf. I dont know, if its possible to convert a doc file to a rtf file. If its possible, is there an API, which will help me out?

btw...I am not sure, if its the right forum for my question :-/HeHe, no sorry. The binary file is the same, because Windows bind doc and rtf with MS Word, it opens the file, which you have renamed to *.rtf in MS Word. But as a doc document, not as a rtf file ;-)
And i dont want to open the rtf file in MS Word. I want to process the rtf file in java.
