"old" iphone tech issues

Since launch of new iPhone, I have experienced variety of issues with my "old" iPhone. Frustrating. Same for anyone else.

Sorry I wasn't specific enough. Nothing major, but a drop in efficiency since the new iphone was launched. Specifically, (1) items that are deleted on my computer appear as "new unread" on my iphonefor quite some time after the original delete on my Mac. (2) the iphone is slow to get new messages. in the past, it connected immediately when I went to mail and updated each time i went to "mail." Now there is a significant delay before it connects to up date mail, and often I have to initiate such action (3) Frequently, I have to manually delete msgs off my iphone to make it current to my mac. While these are not earth-shaking problems, they all started with the launch of ME and/or the new iPhone. I went to the apple store - they reset it for me, but said they were having problems now with the sync function. Perhaps I need to do someting relative to "ME" to eliminate these issues. But that shouldn't be the case.

I have given old iphone to family member and did a factory reset but its asking for my Apple ID info when she is trying to set up phone. never actually was able to access icloud on old phone due to incorrect email address being stored on phone on Apple ID section. Whenever I tried to reset password to change email address, it must have been sent to incorrect email address which I couldn't access. Now I have new phone Apple helped me change Apple ID to correct email but don't know what to do about old phone which must still have wrong apple id stored. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • HT204409 I have a new iphone 5 and it won't connect to a wireless router that my old iphone 3GS would pick up. Is there a compatibility issue with some routers or is the antenna weaker in the new iphone 5?

I have a new iphone 5 and I can't pick up a wireless router that I could use with my old iphone 3GS. Is there an issue with the new iphone and is the antenna weaker than the 3GS?

Re: Anyone still having IOS 6 wifi issues?
created by mpa9366 in Using iPad - View the full discussion
Having done a lot of reading today and having found a very good online tablet magazine (will post link tomorrow) there seems to be a few tech bods onto the problem.
The magazine I was reading identified wifi problems within hours of the ios 6 release and have been analysing since then with almost daily updates - the story seems to be:
The apple authenthication transmission is normal, it should slip through event prior to a full handshake with the host network being completed - however if not authenthicated then apple will not permit the device to connect (kills the connection) this is designed to protect apple from counterfeiting. So thats problem 1 if you dont receive a token from apple.
Problem 2 is that ios 6 only supports ipv6 (the new ip protocol) whereas outside silicon valley a large proportion of routers modems etc are still ipv4 protocol.
So youre locked into ipv6 in a world where ipv4 devices are everywhere and apple have not allowed for the ability to handle both protocols. This is like GM telling you your car requires an upgrade, everything will improve etc and as part of the upgrade fits a fuel cell motor and stays silent when their upgraded vehicles are simply parked up because they cannot get fuel.
A very basic expectation would have been dual protocol handling - we know the HW supports ipv4 as all wad fine on ios5.
So its going to be hit and miss with networks - more hit than miss in techy areas like silicon valley, but more miss in places like where I am - a small town in rural Switzerland.
Only apple can fix this with a patch to enable ipv4 protocol handling.
There you go. you just need to buy a new router, I'm sure Apple has one for sale, cause it's not there fault for sure.
Wonder why people start to migrate to other devices ?

  • How do I delete or change my number in my old iPhone, so that I can still use it for iMessages without issue?

I have an iPhone 4S that was with Verizon. About a week ago I ported into Virgin Mobile and bought a new phone to use until the next iPhone comes out. I now still have my old iPhone, which I want to use for iMessages, as well as like an iPod, etc.
The issue I am seeing is that my phone number is still registered to my iPhone and I haven't yet figured out how to delete it or change it. The problem this is causing is it is making my iPhone sometimes intercept messages from those with iMessage who are texting my phone number. The messages should be going to my new phone, not my iPhone, since they are texting my phone number (not my iMessage email) and my iPhone has no service connected to it.
Here's an example of what I'm trying to say: the other day I texted a guy selling an item online. I used my new phone to text him, not my iPhone. He texted me right back, but the text went to my iPhone, not my new phone. We then texted each other via iMessage and no texts were making it to my new phone.
I think this is also causing some messages to not go through on my new phone either, where I'm just simply not getting texts from people sending me messages. My iPhone isn't getting the messages, nor is my new phone.
What I need to do is delete my number or put a random number in my phone so that I don't keep missing or losing texts. I saw the ways recommended to disconnect your number from iMessage, but that then kills my ability to use iMessage on my iPhone. There must be a way that the number in my iPhone can be changed or deleted. We are in 2013 I think, and this was something I always had the option of changing via manual programming on every phone I've had since 1902 or so.
    How to do this?!

I also already deleted my phone number from iMessage on my MBP.

    Hey kristiac,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you have no service on the iPhone. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • Help Cloning Old iPhone 3g to new iPhone4 issue

A friend has given me her new iphone 4 and asked if I can sync her old iphone's content over to the new handset. (contacts, apps, music, etc)
However, she has already tried herself and so the iphone4 is already recognised by itunes. Is there any way to reset this, so that I get the option to sync her iphone 3 details when I plug it in?

If you upgrade from a previous iPhone model (ie: 3G or 3GS) and use the option to restore from backup you will lose FaceTime as it isn't accessible to previous models. To ensure proper configuration for a user of a new iPhone 4 do the following:
    *First time activating iPhone 4:*
    1. First sync older iPhone 3G/3GS in iTunes if applicable. This will backup any apps downloaded from the iPhone as well contacts from the address book and messages. The iPhone must be synced to the iTunes account that was originally sync, not from a different user computer as this will wipe the iPhone information.
    2. Then disconnect previous model and connect new iPhone 4.
    3. Choose set-up option for new iPhone, not restore from backup.
    4. Once iPhone 4 activated select options you want to sync from iTunes.
    5. Mail will need to be manually configured for email accounts and visual voicemail. Do not restore from a backup as this will corrupt the iOS due to it will believe it's an older model thus exclude FaceTime and cause issues with Visual Voicemail.
    6. After syncing the new iPhone 4 if you run into issues later and want to do a restore from backup choose the one for iPhone 4 not backups done from previous models.
*Fixing an iPhone 4 after choosing to restore from backup from an iPhone 3G/3GS:*
    1. Sync your iPhone 4 to ensure all apps and contacts are backed up in iTunes.
    2. Select "Restore" (don't choose to restore from backup).
    3. Select "set-up new iPhone" instead of restoring from a previous backup.
    4. Once iPhone 4 activated select options you want to sync from iTunes.
    5. Manually set-up your email and visual voicemail.
    6. You should now see FaceTime as an option when you are on a call.
    7. If you ever need to restore from a backup ensure to select the one for the iPhone 4, not previous versions which do not support FaceTime.

  • Sold old iPhone, bought (used) new one, syncing issues

    First, I'm using a PC.
Before I sold the old iPhone I backed it up in iTunes.  Plugged the new one in, restored from the backup of my old phone, everything was perfect.  Now, I'm trying to sync new purchases and music onto the new phone, and iTunes is not recognizing it, saying I need to restore (from the old backup) or set it up as a new phone.  I noticed that the serial number associated with my iTunes account does not match the serial number on the new phone.  How do I remedy this!?!?

  • IPhone syncing, new computer old iphone.... major issues.

I recently bough a new macbook pro, i have an old iphone 2g (dont ask me why i still have this ancient beauty, i just love it). However I havent updated my iphone in over a year and need to update it.
Since this is a new computer and I do not have the other one, which I would usually use to connect to my iPhone, the new computer won't let me sync anything without deleting everything on it.
How do I sync all my stuff (or at least all my contacts to my address book) so that i can restore and update the iphone 2g for to this new computer??? thx for the time.
o and is there any good free 3rd party software that can assist in this if apple can't... and no i do not have a backup on my new mbp, so i can't just restore and use a backup.

I already have some contacts in my address book. So I tried to look for the iPhone under >import however, nothing.... So do i just press sync on my iphone on itunes? Will it give me the option as soon as i press it or just delete everything.... dont want to press something and make a mistake that will cost me all my contacts.

  • Is anyone else having a problem with the iPhone 4s Battery Life?  My 1 year old Iphone 4, which I gave to my wife, is holding a charge better and she has been using it far more than I've been using my 4s

My wife preordered a white iPhone 4s for our anniversary and even though it is preloaded with the ios 5, i am a little disappointed.  The battery doesn't seem to hold a charge well at all. I have had every other iphone except the 3gs and have never had such a poor battery life.  I owned the iPhone 4 for a year, and already know all the tricks to hold on to battery life, I have adopted the habit of closing out any apps that weren't being used, my mail push notifications are set for hourly, wifi and bluetooth are turned off when they aren't needed.  I also stay away from any car chargers, use only the apple brand supplied cables, and only charge when the phone is dead.  I only would sync when the phone was about to die as well.
When I saw how fast I was burning through the battery, I turned off Siri, which is kind of the purpose of the new iPhone, and turned off the backing up to iCloud.  I barely used my phone today and the battery kept ticking down.  My wife, who has been stuck with an iPhone 3g for years, has been fascinated with my old iPhone 4 and has been browsing and playing games and her battery has been holding a better charge than my new phone.  I even tried turning the phone off for an hour when it was at 18% and when I turned it back on, it was at 15%. My iPhone 2, which is only being used as a touch iPod now, still has better standby time than a brand new iPhone 4s.
To be honest, I am usually a heavy phone user.  Throughout the day I will make and receive at least 50 calls, I browse and check websites daily and watch videos sometimes during my downtime.  But this weekend, I haven't even had the chance to put this phone through the same abuse my other 3 iPhones have had to endure.
I just want to know if anyone else has this problem, or if I should just return this one.

I had major issues with the iPhone 4s battery, however it’s resolved.
The tech who set the phone up at the Apple store did so with little training.
if you have a mobile me account. First go and move all your data to the cloud by going on your computer and logging in at me.com/move. The cloud has replaced mobile me, so there is no need for those two accounts
Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.

  • I recently gave my ex my old iPhone 4 when I upgraded to an iPhone 5s and i thought I restored it but I restored to previous date. Now on new phone trying to log onto iCloud it has his name and diff password. How do edit iCloud Mail info

I recently changed my Apple ID and password.  Although I thought I was changing my iCloud email which I just learned cannot be changed. I am in the middle of an ugly separation. I just upgraded my old iPhone 4 to a 5s. I have an I pad also. My first completely idiotic thing I did was try to restore my old iPhone 4 in a hurry and I accidently restored it to an earlier day which alone has caused more problems than I care to address. He has access now to all my emails.  I wanted to change my iCloud email account since it's been terribly compromised but I can't. And I was very confused when I just tried to log onto my iCloud email and it says his name. I just changed it manually on my iphone5s. But when I try to log on it says I have the wrong password. Tried changing it but it tells me to log onto my Apple ID account and I'm just so confused and I need to wipe that device clean somehow. Please help

  • One year old iphone 5 shuts on and off at random

my one year old iphone 5 shuts on and off at random moments(probably a tech fault) can i get a new one/ get this one fixed?
it just suddently happend, i plugged it into the computer (right after a norton security check) and suddently my phone just dies. and now it won't stop turning on and off constantly every 3minutes, i know it sound wierd but it is true. I have changed batteryes before(sort off the same problem) at a different time off the year. it was during winter last time i got these issues.

    Hi okgames,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know it can be both concerning and frustrating if your iPhone will not turn on or shuts off randomly. In your situation, I would suggest reading over the attached article and try the troubleshooting steps provided to ensure all steps have been completed before considering a hardware repair.
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
    Have a great day,

  • I need to transfer playlists from my old iphone into itunes so that I can then add them to my new iphone 6.  However, none of the playlists on my iphone appear when I connect to my macbook.  I have read other threads but have not found answer.  help!

I am a group exercise instructor and rely heavily on my playlists.  My old phone is an iphone 4s and I just bought an Iphone 6.  I also have a macbook where I keep my itunes account, but I create all my playlists on my phone.  I need to transfer those playlists from my old iphone into itunes in my computer so that I can then add them to my new iphone 6.  However, none of the playlists on my iphone appear when I connect to my macbook.  I have read other threads where the suggestion was to attach the old phone to itunes, find the phone in itunes and click the little arrow to the left to show the playlists.  Then right click on the playlist and export it, saving it to the desktop, to then import it into itunes.  However, in my case, the playlists do not show up when the phone is connected to itunes.  I have clicked on the little arrow and all I get is "music", "purchased", etc., but none of my playlists.   I'm sure some years back I probably deleted something in my itunes library and now none of my playlists show.  Please help me.  I would hate to have to recreate all of my playlists.  Thank you!

I know it sounds weird, and that is the reason I posted my question.  Because my case is not like all the ones I've found online and it's confusing.  I added a screen capture of my itunes with my old iphone (the one that houses my playlists) connected to it.
My playlists "ARE"  in my iphone 4s.  They are still there even though they do not show up when I plug in to itunes in my computer.
When connecting my phone to itunes on my macbook, the playlists do not appear anywhere in itunes.  I have found my connected iphone icon, I have clicked on the arrow next to it and it does pull up the standard lists that come with the iphone/itunes:  Music, Movies, TV shows, books.  That's it! below that is "Genius" and below "Geniuns" is "PLAYLISTS"  but the only playlist of mine that shows there is one that I created several years back titled "90's music" and that one I created it on my computer, not my phone.  Under "90's music" there are also other standard playlists that itunes automatically adds.
Does anyone else have this issue or know how to get around this.  I am starting to think that I am going to have to recreate these lists on my computer
