Old ipod in possesion (firewire)...New ipod stuff in car...can they mate???

I have an old ipod that uses firewire, and the new sound system in the car has the dock cable for newer ipods.....(i have a mini as well). Is there any wonderfully magical cable that can make the old one compatible with the car??? Thanks in advance for any help!!!
Naomi G

probably not, the dock connector has the firewire signals in it, plus many other signals (usb data, various power lines, audio i/o, power control, video out, ipod serial i/o)
older ipods just don't have all these signals
the dock serial i/o is probably different from the 3g version, and the 1/2 gen versions different again (don't think there was any ipod data out on 1/2 gen)
if you could get hold of the parts you could certainly make a power and audio-only adaptor cable, but that'd be quite clumsy

Call Apple and make a appointment.
You have 3 months of care and up to 3 years with paid AppleCare, let them handle it and bring everything in.

• Nano 2generation won't work with my old ipod stuff

I work on Windows XP and have an older iPod (the big white one without color) and itunes. I got a 4gb nano 2generation yesterday. I downloaded itunes 7, plugged in my new ipod and ran into a huge wall of problems
My songs were all imported into the new itunes library, but I can't open itunes 7 unless i have my ipod plugged in while I turn my computer on (why?!), and it freezes as soon as I open it up (why?!), and I close itunes because it says that the program isn't responding. THEN....my whole computer shuts down.
If I were to go into my computer and un-install Itunes, would I lose all my music? That is the only solution I know of, but I'd hate to lose all my stuff?
Any ideas? I'm desperate!

are you getting an error message when you try to launch itunes without the ipod plugged in? if so, what does it say? include error message numbers if you're getting any.
THEN....my whole computer shuts down.
are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

• I accidentally synced my iPhone with old iPod settings and I can't get my old iPhone settings back, what can I do

I attached my new iPhone to my iTunes account for the first time and it came up with an option to sync my old iPod touch settings with my new iPhone. Thinking this would mean that it would transfer all my music and pictures from my old iPod to my new I clicked it. So now my iPhone is all screwed up with no music, no contacts, and my old pictures. How do I get it back to my old settings? Or at least clear everything and start over with my iPhone settings.

The first time you connect a new iPhone to iTunes that is used for syncing with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the new iPhone or set up the new iPhone as a new iPhone or don't transfer the backup for the other iOS device. This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone - not many hours or days later after significant use.
All iTunes content on your iPod Touch should be in your iTunes library on your computer. Whatever you had selected for transferring music with your iPod Touch now applies with your iPhone. If you had/have Sync Music selected under the Music tab for your iPod Touch sync preferences with iTunes, the same music in your iTunes library selected to be transferred to your iPod Touch should have been transferred to your iPhone. This occurs after the backup is transferred. All content that was on your iPhone is now gone - replaced with the backup for your iPod Touch.
To start over as a new iPhone, you need to restore the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup. After the iOS is re-installed, select as a new iPhone for the restore option.

Trying to restore my old ipod mini to factory settings, so I can recycle it. But it is locked with my old password, long forgotten. Do I have to reset my current pw & will that unlock my old mini if I do? Would appreciate detail. Thank you.
PS: It was windows based, I'm now on imac.

I've tried a lot of the stuff mentioned at that link and elsewhere, modifying host files etc. trying to downgrade my iPhone 4 back to 5.1.1 no luck , apple has locked up 5.1.1 for my phone and iPad . one post said I'm "stuck with iOS 6" darn I should have been more careful. I have the 5.1.1 Ispw on my MacBook its a permissions thing I don't understand. I'll post when I find a way around it and I will . iOS 6 took away most of my AirPlay functionality . to hek with iPhone 5 I'm starting to look at android. big bummer apple

• I want to import my bookmarks from my old hard drive to my new computer. Old hard drive is in new computer as secondary drive, can't run firefox from it. Would like to find the file where my bookmarks are stored

have looked in the old hard drive for the file where my favorites would be stored. the only file that I can find is not the latest. I did not back up my favorites on the old computer.

Bookmarks are no longer stored in an html file. Instead, they are stored in a file called '''places.sqlite''' in your '''Profile''' folder.
# Locate the '''places.sqlite''' file in your old hard drive.
# Copy it into the '''Profile''' folder of your new hard drive.
# Note that since you would be overwriting the places.sqlite in your new drive, your current bookmarks/history etc would be overwritten by the ones in the old drive.

• Can I walk into an Apple store and have them evaluate my current IPad 2 to see if I'm eligible for a newer version, and if yes can they transfer all the stuff that's on it to the newer version?

I just wanted to know if I went on site to a store if they could evaluate it and see if I could get a discount?
I have usb cable power cord and cover for it too.

Hi,
I also recommend gazelle.com. I've been pricing many to sell electronics we no longer use and gazelle seems best for me.
If you are trying to buy the ipad air, they're new, so I know you know there are no 'deals' to be had. But if you're thinking of buying an ipad 4, please consider this which I just sent to another poster with a refurbed ipad question. I wrote -
[I strongly suggest that you buy your refurb ipad directly from the Apple online refurb store. We bought two last Summer - 2012. They have been great.
All refurbed ipads come with a brand new front and back cover, a brand new battery and a full one year warranty, including the 90 days of phone support. They come in a box and include the charger, just like a brand new ipad. It just says refurbished near the bottom of he box. If you buy from other retailers, even authorized resellers, their own rules apply and they will not have been refurbished by Apple. Also, in most cases, you only get the remainder of the warranty that the original owner did not use.
The great thing is you might consider increasing your gb space for still less than the cost of a new one. They are a bargain right now.
If you decide on what you want, check the certified refurb store and order it fast. Because they are on the site when available, they can come and go. Some are back the same day and some can take weeks. Shipping is fast and free in the USA.
After the intro of the ipad Air, the ipad 4 refurbed price came down another $30.00. I don't expect that to change anytime soon.
Whatever you decide to buy, enjoy.]
Hope this helps.

• HT201303 How do I clear out the old card to enter a new card so that I can get free apps

How can I get my free apps if it's telling me to enter
Enter a card I no longer have what do I need to
Do?

Entries in the location bar drop down list with a yellow (blue on Mac) star at the right end are bookmarks.
You can remove such a bookmarked item that shows in the list if you open that url in a tab and click the yellow star in the location bar.
This will open the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog and you can click the Remove button to remove the bookmark if you want to remove such a bookmarked entry.
• How are collections defined in the new 'Photos' app? and can they be changed?

Hi
I was just having a look at my photo collection on my mac and realised that when in the year view all the photos orders seem to be correct, but when I zoomed in a level to collections, some of the older photos jumped to the end - I realised this was because the date range of the most recent collection spanned a long time period and so got pushed back in the list.
This got me thinking.. what actually defines the collections? and am i able to change whats in the collections? I keep getting confused when the photos keep jumping around when I zoom in and out of each level
thanks for your help!

what actually defines the collections? and am i able to change whats in the collections?
Apple is not very specific about collections and Moments.
The Help says: https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/pht56eafa987
A moment is a group of photos and videos taken around the same time and in the same place—for example, an afternoon at the beach.
A collection is a group of related moments—for example, your entire beach vacation.
The Years view groups all of your photos taken in the same year together, so you can quickly view your entire library at a glance. You can also view your photos individually to see more detail and make edits.
and am i able to change whats in the collections?
No way. The partitioning in moments, collections, years is automatic. You would have to adjust the dates, to force a different grouping.
The help text on years does not seem to be correct. I am seeing larger year groups in my library than just one year of photos in a year:

• New ipod wont restore back to my old ipod settings.

okay, so I picked up a new ipod today in the apple store due to the fact that my old one had an unresponsive touch screen(it wouldn't unlock) they took mine and gave me a new one. i had my old ipod stuff backed up on my Itunes and when i tried restoring this new ipod to my old settings it said it couldn't do it. so i decided to register it as a new ipod, mind helping me out on figuring out how to restore it and make it just like my old ipod?

What was the iOS version of the old iPod and of the new iPod? You can't restore an iPod that has an iOD version older than the iOD on the backup.
