Old iPod passed along within the family won't sync
I received the new, high-zute 30GB iPod for Xmas and gave my iPod Nano to my husband. He loaded iTunes 7 on his computer, created an account with his e-mail and bought songs from iTunes. Now he can't download his purchased music to (his) iPod - it "acts" like it's syncing, but it doesn't. "Sync all songs" IS checked under the "Music" category. What are we missing???
e-machine Windows XP Pro
I have almost the same situation.
My son bought a 2nd gen Nano and he gave his brother the mini.
I know we can only have one account but can you change the name of the ipod, how do you make sure that one set of songs don't get downloaded into the other?
Is there somewhere I can read about this for user help?
Thanks,
Cbaire

I have a new computer with windows 8.1. I want to add the 52 Gb of music now on my old ipod to itunes on the computer. I don't want to wipe out the files on the ipod by syncing to the new computer which has no music files on it yet! How can I do this?
Apparently I wasn't clear. The music on my ipod is but a subset of all the music on my external hard drives. I want to import only the songs and playlists from my existing ipod into the itunes library on my new computer, which currently has no music or playlists. How can I do this?

The ipad won't sync some photos, saying the file can't be read by the ipad, however it will sync some photos taken at the same time which are the same size and file type. Why does it reject some and accept others?
Hi there. I'm having the same problem: my iPad won't import some photos from a folder, saying that they can't be read. They are all JPEGS and some photos taken at the same time have synched fine, but out of a folder with 200 photos, it only lets me synch 37. I'm synching albums created via Photoshop Elements 6, which has worked fine until now.
I've tried deleting all photos and re-synching, and have also deleted the iPod Photo Cache, but it hasn't made a difference.
The iPad auto-updated to the latest version of iTunes, so maybe that's what's causing it?
Any advice gratefully received! -
I have some songs that have an exclamantion point next to them and I can't get them to sync. I had to move them manually into a playlist and succeeded in doing that but now the playlist won't sync. What's the problem?
I have the same problem and I am very upset. I have heard that Apple/iTunes is removing all songs that are unlicened for this type of download. Apple does not want to be responsible for pirated music. Much of mine is down loaded from CD's. I have to go to search and put in every song and then, if found, put it into My Music then back into iTunes. WHAT A HASSLE. I don't remeber reading anything about this. 224 songs so far. NOT HAPPY.

Find out current old heap usage from within the process
Hello!
We use the CMS garbage collector and need a way to find out how much memory is used of the old heap by reachable objects. This we have to do from within the process (not using jvmstat or jstat etc.).
Since there is no way to distinguish between reachable and non-reachable objects (except for traversing the entire heap... -- or are there other possibilities?) our idea is to get the amount of used memory right after a garbage collection in the old heap.
Using Java 1.5, this can be done by
java.lang.management.MemoryPoolMXBean pool = <Pool for Old Generation>;
pool.getUsage().getUsed();However, java.lang.management is only available in Java 1.5.
Therefore my first question: Is there a similar way of finding out old heap usage in Java 1.4?
There is another problem with this method: By calling pool.getUsage().getUsed();, one has to know when a GC has occurred (this could be done by calling it in an interval of x seconds -- if the current value is lower than the one before, a GC must hava occurred). A better way would be to use pool.getCollectionUsage().getUsed();, but this seems not to work for the CMS collector.
Second question: Is pool.getCollectionUsage().getUsed(); really not working with CMS, or are we just doing it in a wrong way? Are there other ways of finding out the used memory in the old heap after a GC even when using the CMS?
Thanks for any help!
Regards,
Nicolas MichaelHi Nicolas,
There is no API in 1.4 to get the after GC memory usage of the old generation. The only thing close to it is (Runtime.totalMemory - Runtime.freeMemory) but it is the approx amount of memory used for the heap (not just the old generation).
MemoryPoolMXBean.getCollectionUsage() returns the after GC MemoryUsage. This method should work for all collectors. I have a simple test case that shows it working fine with CMS. It shows the same value as the -XX:+PrintGCDetails shows.
If you have a test case showing that this method doesn't work correctly, please submit a bug along with the test case. We'll investigate it.
Thanks

I found an old iPod classic of mine that is synced to a computer that is long gone. I want to get the music and photos from this old iPod onto my new computer. Every time I hook the iPod up to my new computer it wants to delete what is on the iPod and replace with the contents of the iTunes that is currently on the new computer. I don't want to do that. I want to keep what is on the old iPod and transfer it to iTunes. Any help? Thanks!

I found an old Applie ID on a computer I use infreqently with an old IPod. I do not have the password for this AppleID. When I use the procedure to reset the password, I cannot receive the email as my email address has changed from the original used with the Apple ID. How can I get the reset information sent to my current email addres so I can establish a new passwod for this Applie ID?
FR Tecmobility is wrong, sure he means well but what he suggests will not work - signing out of iTunes Store and back in will have no effect on iCloud. Try the steps at iOS 7: If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud
You may need to contact apple tech support if none of the password change methods work for you. Ask for Account Security. They will need to verify identity, to ensure you are who you claim to be. If that goes well, they can send a password rest e-mail to any e-mail you desigate, so make sure it is one you can access. Then reset the password. Then you can delete the iCloud account (needs the password to turn off find My Phone/Activation lock)
keep data on phone, then sign in with your desired apple ID. Good luck. hope you get this sorted out. -
I sold my ipod (which has always been backed up to itunes/computer) and am waiting for a new Ipad.
Do I have to manually download all my apps on the ipad, or will itunes allow me to sync my old ipod apps and music to the ipad?Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can sync your music and apps from iTunes. However since you are moving from an iPod to an iPad, many of the apps will have iPad versions which you will need to redownload. -
I get the message "Ipod detected but could not identify"when I plugged in my new 7th gen nano. Tried troubleshooting steps with no luck, Treid plugging in my old iPod that worked fine and I get the same message.

Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

I have a new desktop and I installed the new itunes 64 bit to it but now I can't connect my old ipod touch 2gen to it, it says that the required software is not installed. To run itunes installer and it will remove this and install the 64 bit software. Which is already installed. Any suggestions as to how to fix this, or is it a lost cause?
See
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
- I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- Then do the other actions of:

paying special attention to item #5
- New cable and different USB port
- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

Bought my Daughter new ipod touch 4th gen to replace her old one and i want to get it ready for christmas by transferring everything (games, music etc) - how do i do this?
Also, if she sells her old one, would the new owner have access to account/bank details? You can transfer iTunes purchases from the old iPod to your computer then sync the new iPod.
Connect the old iPod, launch iTunes. From the menu bar click File > Transfer Purchases From
Now connect the new iPod and sync Apps, Music, etc.
As for selling the old one tap Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings
That will erase all personal data from the iPod.
