Old KMS server still listening on port 1688

Hi
I have removed 2008 KMS server key from our old server and also stop publishing it to DNS.
However, the old server is STILL listening on port 1688.  How can I stop the server from listening on port 1688 (slsvc.exe is the process that is doing it).  I just want the service to stop doing this.
Thanks

For the time being I have used the Windows firewall to block port 1688 but that is not exactly what I want to do...
Are you telling me that after going through the uninstall process; restarting the server will prevent the SLSVC service to listen on port 1688?
After re-configuring SLSVC/SPPSVC (e.g. to enable as KMShost or disable as KMShost), a restart of the server is recommended.
I thought from your earlier reply, that you had restarted the server ?
[because SLSVC/SPPSVC is a running service on all modern Windows machines, and that performs genuine license validation for the machines own license as well as for KMShost operations, it's best to restart the server after making configuration changes to
that service]
[it's also good practise to restart a machine after configuration changes, to ensure that the full startup-from-cold-boot routine is correctly configured. this gives confidence that during any subsequent restart of the machine, the machine will auto-start
all the necessary services and processes without error]

  • Obtaining keys from old KMS server for permanent use?

We have a client who bought a series of PCs that had previously been on loan from a software company. They discovered about 6 months after the fact that their copies of Office 2010 and Windows 7 on those machines were coming up as deactivated.
My question is:  Can you obtain a permanent key for Office/Windows for a KMS activation after the device has been removed from the network with the KMS server?

I have a couple of these exact units for home... They are loud and expensive. I don't have exact figures, but I can't afford to run them. I bought a rack-case and built a custom "server" instead. The DL380's are now at work instead (where I don't pay the electricity bill )
Thanks. I wonder how it would be with green SATA drives and some power config tweaks. For now, I'll stick with my backup drive in my desk drawer and rsync for my laptop. Thanks all.

After setting GWIA's IMAP SSL to "required", then restarting GWIA, netstat revealed that the server is still listening on port 143...?
Is this normal, or have I missed something?

  • On which port number WDS server will listen & service when installing on server which is also DHCP server?

    hi frineds
in documents we read when we install WDS on the server which is also DHCP server, we must select this check mark :
"do not listen on port 67"
it means we instruct the WDS service not to listen on port UDP 67  to avoid a port conflict between WDS server service and DHCP server service.
So now on which port number WDS server will listen & service ?
    thanks in advance

    Hi john.s2011,
If Windows Deployment Services and DHCP are running on the same physical computer, this means that the DHCP server is listening on port 67 and is responsible ensuring authorization.

  • KMS Server suddenly stopped working

Our 2008R2 KMS server suddenly stopped licencing Office 2010 (it still works with licencing Windows 7).  It now returns a 0xC004F038 error code, which is insufficient activations.  From the slgmr below, you can see we have 38 activations,
more than enough.  Any idea why this might have started?

Yes, 5 is minimum threshold for Office KMS.
Do you have exactly 5 Office KMSclients, or more?
The current_count will stop incrementing at double the minimum (in this case 5 x 2 = 10)
This KMShost should be working fine. You should check the event logs on the KMShost, and also on the Office client.

  • Win7 - Using KMS Server for Office 2010 - How can you query that it's actually using KMS?

    Hi All,
Our Desktop Support alerted me to an issue in which a client received a pop-up notification about activating Office within 30 days.
I started to dig into our KMS Service, having inherited it from a prior, now gone for greener pastures colleague of mine.
I see the Office 2010 key on the KMS Server and there is a corresponding DNS SRV record for the Server.
    Here is that information:
Name: Microsoft Office 2010, KMSHost edition
Description: Microsoft Office 2010 KMS, VOLUME_KMS channel

Thing is, I try querying for the KMS status on the Win7 machine and there is no entry anywhere that corresponds to Office 2010:

Where can I make certain that Win7's Office 2010 is in fact using KMS for licensing?  Is it in the registry?
Thank you very much for your time,

    Hi,
We might consider to use Volume Activation Management Tool to check the Activation Information:
Reporting Activation Information Using Volume Activation Management Tool 2.0
Or we could take a look into the application log for event ID 12288, 12289 as well as 12290. (the 12288 and 12289 should be in pairs: client query-kms response)
More information, please take a look at the below articles:

    Hope this may help

  • X is listening on port 6000?

My X server is listening on port 6000 and I simply can't find a good way to stop it from doing so!
I tried altering multiple config files (the startx script, Xservers script from the kdm configs) and still I have X listening!
(Of course there is still a firewall blocking reactions on that port)
Normaly a line like -nolistening tcp has to be added after defining the X server executable. This is a default setting but appearently not on my system.
    What am I doing wrong?

    /usr/X11R6/bin/startx
I've tried that before. Personaly I think the startx script is ommited whenever you use a graphical login manager like xdm, kdm, gdm etc... .
Kdm keeps it's config files in "/opt/kde/share/config/kdm/". According to the kde documentation one should alter the lines of the Xservers file. But these should contain the line -nolisten tcp by default. In my case (a fresh kde 3.4 install) the file did'nt so a changed it to:
    # $Xorg: Xserv.ws.cpp,v 1.3 2000/08/17 19:54:17 cpqbld Exp $
    # Xservers file, workstation prototype
    # This file should contain an entry to start the server on the
    # local display; if you have more than one display (not screen),
    # you can add entries to the list (one per line). If you also
    # have some X terminals connected which do not support XDMCP,
    # you can add them here as well. Each X terminal line should
    # look like:
    # XTerminalName:0 foreign
    :0 local@tty1 /usr/X11R6/bin/X -nolisten tcp
    ### Don't change these two lines; they are hints for genkdmconf. ###
    ### Version 1.99 ###
    :1 local reserve /usr/X11R6/bin/X -nolisten tcp :1 vt8
    :2 local reserve /usr/X11R6/bin/X -nolisten tcp :2 vt9
    :3 local reserve /usr/X11R6/bin/X -nolisten tcp :3 vt10
Still al of this makes no changes to the fact that X keeps listening on the 6000 port.
And since this can evolve into a security risk I want it to change. Quite odd behaviour really since it's should be ommited as default.

  • IChat File Transfer port issue (can't listen to port 5190 and 7777)

    Greentings ladies and gentlemen,
I need help opening port 5190 and 7777 for ichat server file transfers. As for now, my situation can be described as below:
(1)I have a ichat server in a mac mini(2010, newest model as for today) running a fully updated version of MACOSX SERVER 10.6 inside a lab in my university.
(2)As for the ichat server itself, text, voice, video between 2 or more persons are all working great. As for clients the latest version of ichat and pidgin(text only) are being used. The only problem is the lack of file transfer between ichat clients.
(3)The server is behind a router (YAMAHA RTX 1200). I am 100% sure that the router is correctly configured to allow packets in and out of the port 5190 and 7777, among the other necessary ports. All the other ports are open and working correctly. I also manually disabled the firewall of a windows7 laptop and tested packet transfers on both ports and both worked fine.
(4)As I said before, the server is inside my university lab. I made sure that all ports between 1023~65535 are open in the univesity gateway/backbone network.
Bellow are firewall(IPFW) settings before flushing (tried configuring using both GUI and CUI, and both returned the same results)

As you can see my firewall settings are not being reflected on the actual server firewall.
Is there any way I could just force the server into listening the port?
If necessary I can post screenshots of every ichat server/firewall configuration tab from the Server Admin GUI.
Thanks in advance for any help/support.

First off, realize there is no association between your firewall rules and netstat.
Just because your firewall is letting traffic in that does not mean it will appear in your netstat.
netstat -a will show you a list of ports that are in use - i.e. there is some process listening to (or writing to) that port. That is independent of whether the firewall permits the traffic (e.g. the firewall could well allow traffic in on 5190, but unless there's a process listening to 5190 you won't see it in the netstat).
Secondly, IIRC iChat file transfers are client-to-client therefore it might not be your server, or your server's firewall or your server's network that's the issue - the client will need to have a firewall configured to allow incoming traffic from other iChat clients.
Does that help shed some light on things? (it isn't clear whether your post is referring to the server or the client side of things).

Then, I try to use "start rmiregistry" command. At that time, a command window stating the above exception popup just for a while and closed automatically.
Now, I use jdk1.6.0_16 on Windows Vista.
Previously, I used j2sdk1.4.2_19. That time, I could run "start rmiregistry" properly and could try testing another RMI example application.
But if I use j2sdk1.4.2_19, compiling some statements in the sun's RMI tutorial gives me error. So, I change to use jdk1.6.0_16 for this tutorial. "jdk1.6.0_16" compiles all programs in the tutorial with no error. But I can't run the statement "start rmiregistry".
I use the command prompt from Vista's default Administrator account and already disable User Account Control too.
    Any help, please!
    Thanks a lot,

  • Unable to conclude on the Port on which SQL Server is Listening

    Hello,
I have two instances of SQL Server installed on a Server.
The First Instance is in stopped state and Second Instance Port Status can be seen in the attached screenshot.
    Dynamic Ports:55005
    TCP Port:1433
I was not able come to conclusion on the port that SQL server is listening on because when I try netstat I see both the Ports listening.

  • KMS server: Office2010 & Win7 react in different ways...

    Hi,
we have a virtual infrastructure using Win7 and Office 2010.
Before introducing Office2010, the KMS host was on a Win2008 server, then we decided to move it to a Win7 machine with the Office2010 extension installed. KMS functions were disabled from the Win2008 server.
What happens now is that Win7 OSs are regularly activated by KMS, while Office2010 installations are not... we have verified that the old KMS is no more publishing itself on DNS and that the correct DNS entry is present for the Win7 KMS host. Using nslookup
for further verification also gives the correct results.
Nevertheless, Office 2010 is unable to activate itself on the desktops. We are able to activate the Office2010 instances just using the VAMT tool, forcing the KMS activation for the selected desktops AND manually forcing the IP of the KMS server: when leaving
the tool search the KMS (using the DNS), it fails. Since (as stated before) nslookup gives the expected results (on the same machine where VAMT is installed and failing!), we really don't know what to do... everything seems to be ok, but actually it isn't:
    where?
    Thank you for your help

I was just looking through questions with no replies.  Do you still need assistance with this issue?
