Old Laserjet 2100 with jetdirect 615n tcp/ip server disable

I make a cold reset on a laserjet 2100 and the card jetdirect 615n  became disable.
I dont have an ip address, how can i enable it?

The cold reset will almost certainly have changed the IP-address to 0.0.0.0 (effectively inaccessible), although (I think) that it will also have reset the protocol to DHCP, so the printer should obtain a new address from a local DHCP server.
Print a Configuration page. If an HP JetDirect EIO print server is installed, printing a Configuration page will also print a second page that will show the network settings and status.
Press GO to print a demo page. The printer must be in the ready state.
I'm not sure if this also prints the Configuration page, or if you need to hold the Go button down for several seconds.
If the Configuration page now shows a valid address, you may be able to reconfigure the card by connecting to this address via  a browser, or via WebJetAdmin (not sure), in order to change the address and/or protocol (e.g. to set a fixed IP-address - then have to reserve this in your DHCP server).

  • Printing Problems - HP LaserJet 2100 with USB/Parallel adapter - Print jobs 'hang'

Hoping to get some assistance with a persistent and frustrating printing problem.
I've got an older HP LaserJet 2100 that was working great until recently.  It doesn't have a USB port on it, so I have it connected to my iMac (21" 3.1 gHz, i7) via a USB/Parallel cable.  Up until now I have been forced to us Gutenprint (wss running 5.0.2) as the Apple provided drivers cause the printer to spit out pages upon pages of gibberish.
Recently, when printing the document (or PDF, or whatever) gets sent to the queue, but doesn't seem to fully make it to the printer.  For lack of a better term, it 'hangs' at some percent (47%, 82% etc.) in the queue window and doesn't print.
A few further details that are causing me extreme levels of frustration:
I have reset the SMB and this results in being able to print one page normally, then the system returns to the problem above
OSX can see the printer and I have deleted/added it many times
Printing system has been reset multiple times
On a restart, the first page that was trying to print does print out.  This sometimes happens when the log-in page appears, sometimes when I log back in to my user account.
The printer is connected directly to my iMac and not through a USB hub.
I have another printer (a new HP Officejet 6600) that works without a problem.
    Thanks in advance.

This problem is most likely a deficiency in the parallel-adapter end of that cable. I'd look for another USB-parallel cable.
There used to be a special driver that worked around the limitation of the parallel adapter "data shifter" - but it doesn't appear to be available anymore:

    Hi @Mladen
I suspect your question would be better answered in the HP Enterprise Business Community, as your HP Printer is a commercial model.
My technical expertise is with consumer products and software, I am sure the commercial folks would be happy to help if you re-post your question for them to answer. The HP Enterprise Business Community is an HP Forum designed for the Commercial and Enterprise customers to help one another. I am sure you will find some HP folks there to help too.
Click here to view the Printing and Digital Imaging. When the page opens you will see the option to 'Log in' or 'Register Now' on the right. The commercial forums are separate from the consumer boards, thus you will need to register if you don't already have a commercial account.

  • Job prints but is then stuck in queue - LaserJet P1102 with JetDirect 175x print server

    Hello,
I have an unusual error happening when i try to install my P1102 through a print server. Everything installs ok and allows me to print a test page, the next document i try to print prints ok but the job remains in the queue and stays there. After a couple of minutes saying Printing it then says Error, and any other attempts at printing get stuck behind this job. Then, if i dont delete the job in error from the queue it will print this document every 10 mins until deleted or i switch the printer off!
The set up is a LaserJet P1102 attached to a JetDirect 175x print server, PC running Win7 x86
    Things i have tried:
    - Install on another pc. Tried both Win 7 x86 and x64
    - Changed print server for known working one
    - Connected via USB, printer works fine
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

    Hi,
i've installed new drivers for Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit) from HP website but however spooling is too slow. I tried all of drivers (PCL 6, PCL5 and PS). Only the PCL5 driver have an adequate standard of quality.

  • Can't get my HP LaserJet 2100 seating on Linksys PPSX1 Print server to work

    Hi,
I can find and add the printer on Appletalk protocol. I've even downloaded the driver update from HP's site and installed it on my system but still when I print to this printer I get a few blank pages and a page with one or two line of junk on it (same problem existed before the driver update). The driver version is 4.3.5.153 as it appears in the general info of the printer. Can anyone help me with figuring this out and get the printer to work with my macbook pro please? By the way, from a win xp laptop I can print to it with no problem. The print Server is a Linksys PPSX1.

If I recall correctly, postscript is on a removable card on this printer. The symptoms you get sound like the postscript card is removed, but you're using the standard Mac driver - which is for postscript.
The other page language the printer understands is HP's PCL. There is either a Gutenprint driver included in OS X for this printer, or you can update Gutenprint to get it. Gutenprint outputs PCL instead of postscript.

  • Connect Old Laserjet 4 to New Linksys Router Using JetDirect J2552a

I have an old LaserJet 4 with an old JetDirect J2552a card that cannot take the firmware update. I was somehow able to use it on the network, but another device has taken 192.168.1.100 and it will no longer work. Any suggestion? Something that I can buy?

For further troubleshooting.  I found the solution (Google is your friend).
It looks like for the Linksys E4200 (and others as well) VMM must be enabled to make some chipsets (Intels and Apple are mentioned) able to connect using 802.11n.  VMM in actived under QOS settings on the E4200 unit.
After this was done, all works ok.

  • Unable to resolve problem with HP Laserjet 2100

I connected an HP Laserjet 2100 to my Mac Pro using a Belkin parallel to USB cable. I installed the latest Mac driver for this printer off the HP web site. The Printer Setup Utility recognized the printer and I was able to add it. So far so good. However, when I print I get something at the top of the page that says Acrobat 3 and then the title of document. Nothing else. Can someone offer an answer and a fix. Thank you.

I'd recommend getting the HP JetDirect 600N print server module and running it as a networked printer. Not to certain that the Belkin parallel to USB is going to be well supported on Mac.

  • Getting old Laserjet printers to work with Windows 7

    Hi Everyone,
For those of you, like me, that may have an old Laserjet 4, 5, or 6 I figured out how to get it to work with Windows 7!
First, new computers do not have LPTx ports. So, when you first set up your Laserjet you MUST select a USB port - this is the main problem with getting your old laserject to work on a new computer.  MY computer dispalyed USB001 and USB002. Since I have another HP printer installed using USB001, I selected USB002. You will also need a Pararellel to USB adapter cable - you can buy one on Amazon (I paid just $11.87).
Next, when selecting a printer driver  you MUST select HP, NOT Hewlett Packard. Scroll down until you find Laserjet 4,5, or 6. NOTE, if you don't see these models, click on the Windows update button in the dialog box. NOTE: This may take a few minutes to display the updated list. Again, select HP and scroll down the list of drivers until you find your model Laserjet (Laserjet 4, 5, or 6).
At this point you should be good. Just finish the install process and make sure to print out a test page.
    Good luck !

I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial printer. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/

  • Is printer laserjet 2100 compatible with OS X Yosemite 10.10

Hi, I have a HP Laserjet 21000 printer and I connect it to my Mac.  I bought a praralelle to USB cable.
Problem: I'm trying to print from my mac and it prints many blank pages. I downloaded the driver from HP website and I am still getting the same problem. I discussed with Apple support and they suggested I contact HP. Would you have the appropriate driver.

Sorry you are having issues installing your Laserjet 2100 to you Mac running Mac OS X 10.10.
You might try downloading and installing the 3rd party Gutenprint driver for your printer.  You can download this driver here: http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php.

  • Laserjet 2100 TN via ethernet to MacBook Pro 2009 (Snow Leopard)

I've been given an HP Laserjet 2100 TN. It was previously suceessfully used with a MacBook pro via an ethernet cable.
I'm trying to set it up at home but failing to get it to connect with my MacBook. I'm using Snow Leopard.
I've read lots of connection tips in discussion forums but not found a solution that works for me.
I've managed to print a configuration sheet which tells me in printers HP JetSend Address.
I've tried using this to add the printer through System Preferences but the computer is not connecting with it.
Do I need a parallel cable or is the ethernet cable enough?
I think I'm missing something obvious!
    Sarah

Sorry to post in the wrong place! And thanks for your input. SCSI is a good call - the parallel cable didn't look quite right and that may explain why. Can I add a few more experiences to help explain where I'm at:
    - Snow Leopard seems to think the drivers should be included in the OS, but I don't know how to access them.
    - I found and installed a driver but couldn't find how to access it when adding the printer.
    - When I'm in ADD PRINTER
        - I guess I need an IP address - is this the one I find on printer info?
        - I saw a forum that recommended LPD as best choice for old priters so I'm using that
         - It defaults 'Print using' to Generic Postscript Printer'. I've tried changing it to Generic PCL Laser Printer as it is a laser prointer, but neither help make it work
         - Once I've setup the printer, when I run a test page the printer fails to connect and goes on hold
I don't think I'm explaining myself very well - mainly because I'm quite out of my depth trying to did this! I can't find anything in the printer handbook which helps. Do you have any advice for a novice trying to add a printer it would be much appreciated.

  • HP LaserJet 2100 to Windows 7

I love my old HP LaserJet 2100tn. I now have a new W7 computer. I have downloaded the recommended drivers, and I am connect with a DB25 to USB converter cable.
When the printer is plugged in, it is found as an unknown device. I have a HP Universal PCL6 printer showing on my network, along with my unknown device.
I have tried to set the HP Universal Printer to the network address shown on the unknown device, but I still can't print.
Any suggestions - or can someone tell me the EXACT procedure for installation and I'll uninstall everything and start over. I may have messed around with enough stuff by now to have it thoroughly screwed up.
    Thanks

the HP engineer told me I have to use PL5 instead of PL6 to use my laptop w7/64biys to control my HP LaserJet 2100.
I did. but the printer could not print the words instead of funny strange graph.
who can give me any suggestion ?
I purchased a parallel connector to USB adaptor from the Ebay, I do not know if there is a problem from the adaptor cable or not?

  • Connecting HP Laserjet 2100 to OS 10.4.8 Powerbook via ethernet

I have been trying unsuccessfully to connect my Laserjet 2100 printer with ethernet card directly to my mac via an ethernet cable. I have tried adding the printer directly by going to Add Printer under System Preferences, entering the HP Jetsend Address (169.230.14.45), and using either HP Laserjet 2100 series drivers or HP laserjet 5 series (gimpprint) drivers. I still am not able to print. Can someone walk me through the process to get the two talking? Thanks in advance.

The IP address you listed is a self-assigned address, which won't work. You need to manually assign IP addresses to both computer and Printer/Jetdirect in the same local subnet range, like 192.168.1.5 and 192.168.1.6.
Then Add the printer using the IP > HP Jetdirect protocol. And I think HP Laserjet 6 Series works better than 5 Series (Try both).

  • JetDirect 610N -- TCP/IP data stuck on the defaults

Sorry if the answer to this is already here somewhere or obvious, but I've been searching all day and don't have a lot of technical expertise anyway...
I have a LaserJet 2100M with a JetDirect 610N (J4169A) that was working perfectly until I changed my router to a Technicolor TG582n this week.
The router assigns an IP to the printer (192.168.1.101), but my Windows Vista laptop (wirelessly connected to the router) can't access the printer (it could with my previous two routers, no issues at all).  I've done a cold reset and the JetDirect info page now reports that the I/O card is ready and the TCP/IP status is ready...but the IP Address is the default 192.0.0.192, the subnet mask 255.255.255.0, the gateway 192.0.0.192.  The BOOTP/DHCP Server is Not specifcied, as are most of the other settings.
I can Telnet to 192.0.0.192 and it says "JetDirect", but I can't seem to get it to tell me any settings (all the numbers seems to be 0.0.0.0 -- examples?).  I've tried assigning an IP ("ip: 192.168.1.101"), but nothing happens.  I've also run the HP Network Printer Setup Wizard, but it can't find the printer.
I don't know if I'm supposed to configure the JetDirect card to make it work, but I know I didn't a few years ago when I orginally bought it new -- I just plugged it in and the Windows Add Printer Wizard just found the printer.  Is it a problem with my router, which is new?  Seems to have a fairly basic interface and there aren't any obvious settings to change that might be preventing things working.
    Any ideas?!
    Thanks in advance,
    Stu

A little late in the day, I put 192.0.0.192 into my browser and got a setup utility. I've used it to change the IP to the one the router assigned and then used the HP Install Network Printer Wizard to get the printer working. Which is good, but...
Is this a proper fix? I didn't have to do it with previous routers. Also I've made up the subnet mask (255.255.255.0 -- what should it be?) and put the gateway the same as the IP address (what should it be?) and left all the other boxes blank (should they have values?).
At least its seems to be working!
