Old late payments on still-open account

hi, i'm new here, but a longtime lurker and i finally have a question i thought i'd post about. i have a open account for a studnet loan from grad school. there was dark stretch during the great recession where i stopped making payment, because i had very little money and most of what money i had i sent home to my mom and sis who were out of work due to the economy. not sure why i didn't try to make a better arrangment than jut not paying. i guess i was really stressed and scared facing all the new realities. until that point i'd never been out in the real world, so to speak...just school. anyway, the first of those missed payments will be seven years old in july. since the account is open (and current!), i understand that they will stay on my report despite their age since it's an active account. is that right? is there anything i can try to get them removed before i finish paying off the account? the good news is that other than those payments, all of my reports are spotless. thanks in advance for the advice!

interesting. i called experian and the person i spoke with said that since the account is still active, the old late payments wouldn't fall after 7 years because i'm still paying off the account. i just got off the phone with a credit specialist and he said even though the account is still open, the late payments will in fact drop off once they are seven years old. i'm a little confused, bit i'm hoping the credit spec. is right!

  • How 7+ Years Late Payments Fall Off Report?

So being a credit forums junky for years now I thought I knew exactly how this would go down but I'm a little confused now, I guess...  I just checked my Transunion report which still shows some old late payments from 2008 and 2009... An example of my "confusion" is  one of my Student Loans...there is payment history on that loan dating back from March 2007 and onwards (opened Feb 2007)...these recorded "OK" payments are well over 7 years old - why havent these payements fallen off as time goes on? (My lates arent quite 7 years old yet on that account yet, but will be soon and I'm sort of not sure how they are going to "fall off" if this account's payments are being reported beyond 7 years?)  A similar sitiation is going on with my Capital One card, which is actually still open. - It had a 30 day late back in September 2008. Will this 30 day late just magically turn in to a "OK" payment in Septemeber when it turns 7 years old, or will that payment literally fall off and dissapear somehow, even though the older-than-7-years payments on that account that are "OK" are not falling off and still showing?

Derogatory payment history (lates) will be excluded as each late passes the 7 year mark. When the last late is excluded, the account will become completely positive and will report for ten years after its closure.  A similar sitiation is going on with my Capital One card, which is actually still open. - It had a 30 day late back in September 2008. It will become excluded and will essentilally become "no data" for that month. Most display formats will show "no data" as "OK" - it just depends on where you are viewing your file.

  • Removing Late Payments after Paying

This site has a lot of great information and recently decieded to join after reading many threads about this subject. So here it goes: I mistakenly let my student loans go into default. I had 3 loans from Fed Loan Servicing that went into default and was picked up by US Dept. of Education. Now my CR has 6 accounts. I called DOE and was told if I can pay the balance within 90 days all negative tradelines will be removed. I agreed. I paid off the balance when I made my last payment last month. I pulled my CR yesterday and noticed that they just changed the status to paid and all my late payments are still there. Did some searching on this board and I've read on here that they are not obligated to remove the late payments. Is this true? I was under the impression that all my late payments from DOE and Fed Loan would be removed.
Because I have Fedloan and DOE reporting late payments, I have 30 lates being reported from Fedloan and another 36 on behalf of DOE. That’s 66 total OUCH!!. Mostly are 90+ late. How can I get these removed? It’s stressing me out and I want to apply for a mortgage. For those curious my score went up +33 on EX and +23 EQ when they changed the status of my loan. Any help would be much appreciated!!!

I have never heard of the DoE offering to remove negative reporting in exchange for repaying the total balance in a short amount of time.  Most of what you found here probably referred to the rehablitation process, which involves 9 on-time payments to the collection agency in order to bring the loans out of default status.  Once the loans are back in good standing, some of the negative reporting is removed, but servicers are not required to remove the late payments leading up to the default. Did you get your repayment agreement in writing?  Who did you make this agreement with? (The DoE, the collection agency handling your defaulted loans?)

  • HELP! Can I retrieve my previous session? I only just ticked the "open with previous session" preference but it seems too late! Can I still get the old pages/tabs I had open?

HELP! Can I retrieve my previous session? I only just ticked the "open with previous session" preference but it seems too late! Can I still get the old pages/tabs I had open?

That could be a problem, unfortunately.
But most likely the pages you were on are stored in the History list. Try pressing Cmd+Shift+H to get the History window.
To help prevent this from happening to you again in the future, I can recommend the extension [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2324/ Session Manager]. It is quite powerful but may not be able to help you any more than the History at this point.
Please let us know how above works out, and if we can be of further assistance. Detailed feedback is appreciated and helps us to help more users with similar problems.

  • Open a 3rd card? Screwed up excellent credit with late payment

I have two cc accounts and one has a two-month old 30-day late flag with the CRAs.
Prior to this I had a 750 TU FICO and now it's 725. boom! I'll never make this mistake again.
Question is: how would opening a new credit card affect my score? In the near term and medium term?
I have paid my cards down and just have a modest 8% balance on one now.
It seems crazy, but I need a 740 for the mortgage product I want (15% down), so these 15-20 points are a big deal!
I know another card would help long-term, but what about in the next 3-6 months?

25 point decline for a two month old 30 day isn't bad in my opinion. I figured it would be more like a 50 point decline.Probably is, but other events, presumably, have occurred since last trigger canceling out some of the impact. MyFICO isn't all tha suitable for closely analyzing causes of score changes, since triggers miss a lot of activity that affect scores, such as collections falling off, collections updating, positive trade lines being removed, average age of accounts, moderate to small utilization changes, etc. To the OP, you're on the right track with getting utilization down; fast and simple. Despite only having 2 regular cards, do not open any more right now. More can help longterm, but will reduce average age of accounts, and, typically, add a hardpull inquiry. Mortgage lenders generally don't like to see much new credit being opened within 6 months or so of applying. GW letter route is worthwhile, but if no good, your scores will recover somewhat within a few months doing nothing more other than keeping utilization low and paying on time. Finally, mortgage lenders generally use a somewhat different FICO version, such as FICO 2, 4, or 5, which may be higher or lower than the widely used FICO 8 you're seeing. Also, lenders will sometimes use the middle score of the three bureaus. So if the other two aren't showing the Late, you may still qualify with favorable loan terms despite the hit you took with TU.

Let me see if I've gotten this right! You want to remove an account from BOTH machines? Do this for your new machine first, then for the other.
Click the Apple logo on the top left of the screen, System Preferences, Users and Groups (under Systems), unlock the lock in the window if its locked (you need to know the password), select the user that you wish to remove, and click the - sign next to the + sign for Login options. A window will pop up with some options. Select Delete this user and securely, and click 'Delete user'.
After this, do an update from the App Store.
Thats all there is to it.
For the other machine repeat the process except for one thing. Before you delete the user in this case YOU, you will have to give Administrator priviledges to your son bu checking the box 'Allow user to administer this computer'.
Do NOT do anything from Finder ... if you dont know how to fix the consequences of the problems caused.
There is no need to unauthorize your iTunes account on your new machine. Do it on the old machine though.

    ChrisJ4203,
Thank you for the help.  Every app on my phone was downloaded using my old I-tunes ID.  I just hope that they will re-download under my new ID because I still can't change it on my phone.  In order to change to the new ID it says I have to sign out from the old ID and change to the new one.  My problem is that I don't remember my password to be able to sign out from my old ID.  Then the phone says it can change my password through e-mail and I  agree but I never get an e-mail at my old address or the new one.

  • I deleted my Sync account, but when I open Firefox the Sync tab still opens. How do I get rid of this?

Whenever I launch Firefox the tab with the name "Your First Sync" still opens even though I've already deleted my Sync account. I do not want this tab to open anymore, it's actually very annoying. What can I do?

You can check for problems with preferences and try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.

I recommend reaching out to Citrix via their support system -
    http://www.citrix.com/products/receiver/resources-and-support.html
The receiver app has a specific list of servers it's compatible with, if the server is not on the list the app won't work in OS X.

Do you know what server you're connecting to?
