Old LG Monitor with Mini?

Hi guys
For many years i've been planing to buy an apple computer, but they are too expansive here in brazil. So the Mac Mini (which costs around R$2800; that means US$1100) could be a option.
The problem buying the mini is that i only have an old LG Studioworks 561N monitor, and i don't know if the mini is compatible with this monitor. Do you guys know if the mini will run with this monitor?

You don't say what sort of Inputs it has available, but if VGA, DVI or HDMI then yes, you might need to buy an adapter of some type though ...

  • Samsung 2494LW monitor with mini?

has anyone used this monitor with the new 2010 mac mini? i ask due to the calibration option it has not working with snow. can it be adjusted without the "magictune"?
LCD / TFT : Where Can I Get MagicTune?
Note: Magic Tune is currently only available for the following operating systems:
    Microsoft :
    Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, 2003, XP, Vista (32/64 bit) and Windows 7 (32/64 bit).
    Apple:
Mac OS X 10:2.6 to 10.5.7, at this time there is no support for Leopard.
Magictune is a software equivalent of the on screen display menu, if Magic tune does not work on your system you have the following options. You can use the built-in OSD menu of the monitor, or you may be able to adjust the settings using the advanced settings of your video card. Please contact your pc or video card manufacturer for assistance.

    Hi there
I just got a new Mac Mini and a 32 inch Samsung LCD 450 series. I am not sure of max resolution but I know it's a 720p set. I have been impressed with the plug and play set up via a VGA cable. But, I can not seem to figure out how to get the max resolution set up either.
The Mac display preferences only give me choices for standard monitor sizes that are not proportional to the Samsung screen, I have tired both 800 x 600 and the 1024 x 768 I have mixed and matched this with changing the picture proportions on the TV (16:9 vs 4:3). Things either seem stretched or overly square.
Am I missing something here, Is there somewhere else I should be looking for settings to tweak?
Any help or steering toward other resources would be most welcome.
    Thanks, Josh

  • Old formac monitor + Mac mini?

I'm planning to buy a Mac mini, to upgrade from a desktop G4 (2001). I assume that it will also be time to say goodbye to our (also 8-yr.-old) formac ProNitron 17" monitor, as we won't be able to use it with the new Mac?

As long as the monitor has a VGA or DVI connecter and you get the right adapter (a one for DVI is included).
If you don't know, VGA is purple/blue and DVI is white
You can get a mini Display Port to VGA from the Apple store or at the online store.
For the best Mac experience I recommend a widescreen monitor. If you can't afford the Apple monitor, go for any Dell monitor.

  • HT5918 Display Port Monitors with MacPro 2013

As of now, I am using 5 monitors on my MP 2006 and intend to move on to the new MP 2013.
After reading this note ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6008 ) I have some questions.
This article states that we can connect up to 6 monitors with mini-display port , and various restrictions on DVI and HDMI ones. However, it does not mention Display Port models, that can be connected via a Display / Mini Display port adapter.
My first question is then to know wether I can connect up to 5 ( or 6 ) of such monitors at the same time  ( with DP to Mini DP adapters ) ?
My second would be to know wether I can connect 2 monitors with DVI to Mini DP adapters and 2/3 monitors with Display to Mini DP adapters at the same time ?
Finally, as there are no mentions of limits to VGA monitors used with VGA to Mini DP adapters : does that mean that I can use 5/6 monitors at teh same time that way ?
Thank's for your help in getting answers, as I need to be sure of what works before upgrading my old workhorse ... :+))

    1.
we can connect up to 6 monitors with mini-display port ... it does not mention Display Port models, that can be connected via a Display / Mini Display port adapter.
DisplayPort is electrically the same as Mini DisplayPort. The adapter is simply a re-assignment of the pins to the different connectors. Some users find this adaptation is better performed with an adapter-cable, rather than a discrete adapter. Rules that apply to Mini DisplayPort stand exactly the same as (full size) DisplayPort.
    2.
connect 2 monitors with DVI to Mini DP adapters AND 2/3 monitors with Display to Mini DP adapters at the same time ?
These appear to be limited to 2 Single-Link DVI adapters unless you use USB-powered ACTIVE adapters. This setup is complicated, and that is not "The Apple way". it may suddenly require ALL adapters be ACTIVE adapters.
    3.
VGA to Mini DP adapters : does that mean that I can use 5/6 monitors at the same time that way ?
No. These will also be limited to easy use with the two display adapters. In today's digital display age, VGA is not a solution to anything. It is grudgingly provided to run your old projector.
All VGA Adapters are ACTIVE -- they contain a chip that generates the Analog signal from the DisplayPort signal provided, and the VGA signal degenerates further in the process, and has limited resolution. There are no VGA Adapters which have the extra USB input, so that alone may limit you to the two specified.
    4.
For completeness, keep in mind that a 4K display can use up to 14G bits/second (variable depending on how much is changing on screen) for a moving picture, so there may not be as much as expected left over on that 20G bits/sec ThunderBolt channel (2 ports/channel) to run your Drives.

    Hi there,
I have a Mac Mini (core 2 duo) and it's great. I took it to Glasgow with me earlier this year for some work and it was totally reliable.
Bear in mind the disk is not as fast as some boxes but you should still be able to a fair mount of work with it (eg 26-24 complex tracks with sound treatments). You will want an external disk as well for your audio files.
As for screens, you'll need the right connector (VGA to DVI) but they're not expensive compared to everything else.

haha, so now i'm thinking. I'm learning the terminal as fast as i can but there are several lines of codes and commands in there that throws up red flags to me that i don't fully understand. It just looks fishy too me. It would be highly appreciated if someone could just check this out just to tell me that i don't need to worry about it. Or point me in the right direction. I just feel un easy about this. ha.

  • How can I connect a new mac mini to my old vga monitor? There doesn't seem to be a mini display port

I have an old monitor with VGA port, and was wondering if anyone knows how to connect this to the new mac mini. Older mac minis have the mini display port, and if that were the case I would use the mini display port to VGA adapter, but this new mac mini doesn't have one. It just has the thunderbolt port or HDMI port for displays... I've been looking for an adapter to connect my display to one of these but cannot seem to figure it out. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

The Thunderbolt port is the one to use; you use the same mini-DisplayPort adapter you used for the older minis.
    Regards.

  • Will any of my old displays work with the new Mac Mini

I am thinking of getting a new Mac Mini.     What I need to know is if any of the monitor/displays I have here can bem used.
I have two old video monitors I used to used with my old  mac mini (Samsung Symc Master 770 and old little Princeton  - VL158) , a
n early 2006 iMac 20" (which I don't think I could use as a monitor from what I read) and an little Samsung TV with USB and HDMI connectors.,
Can I use any of these?
Need new connector cords?   Mini-DVI to VGA adapter?
    Thanks

I am a writer though  and a photographer (strictly point and shoot) for a couple of orgs.  I just don't want o run out of space.  And I hate!! slow response time.
Is the i5 adequate as well?

  • How to use  two monitors with my Mac mini

    Hello,
I have a Mac mini and using a 20" Samsung Monitor with it which works well. I also have my 40" LCD Samsung telly, set up next to it. Whenever i watch a DVD using my Mac i have to swap over the cables. Is there a way of getting the right cables etc and making it so i would be able to watch a dvd on the 40" and still use the 20" surfing the net etc. I had a similar set up with my old windows laptop, but cant seem to work out how do it with the mac. Both monitors have modern sockets, the 40in has HDMI/DVI IN and AGV, the 20" has AGV and HDCP/DVI IN. Many thanks.

To the best of my knowledge there is no way to use dual displays on the Mini. You may be able to find some adapter that will allow you to physically connect two displays, but they will be mirrored, not spanned.
To do what you describe would take spanning, which the Mini is not capable of doing. Unless something has changed recently,..

  • Posterized colors on two different monitors with Mac Mini, late 2014 model

Sometimes when I leave my Mac for a while (like an hour or more), I come back to a black monitor, then click the trackpad to wake it up (I assume it is "sleeping" but I don't see a way to make the monitor sleep), I am faced with posterization of the colors and crumbly text, like this:
I can "fix" it by going into System Preferences > Display and change the rotation to 90 or 180 or something. The screen clears up right away. Then I revert to the normal rotation. This is an ok workaround but it is not convenient. I never had this problem with my MacBook.
I first saw this issue with my late 2014 Mac Mini that I got a couple months ago, and it has happened with both monitors I have tried: an old Benq monitor attached with DVI (DVI to Thunderbolt adapter) and a new Thunderbolt Display. The Benq was connected using a DVI to HDMI adapter. I no longer have this monitor. The Thunderbolt Display is attached directly to the Mini using the Y cable to the Thunderbolt port on the Mini.
Yosemite version is 10.10.2. It doesn't happen if I wake the Mac while it's showing the screen saver.
The only things I have checked under Energy saver is "Wake for network access" and "Enable Power Nap". I don't have anything Scheduled, as I don't have a specific time of day I want it to turn on and off, but I would like the Mac to wake up right way and display correctly if I have to leave the Mac for a while during the day.
I've seen other similar threads, but so far all the suggestions I've seen talking about upgrading to 10.10.2 (which I have) or some sort of workaround involving sleep settings (which I can't quite understand). I'm going to call the Mac Store where I bought the Mini next week, or when I have some time, but I have a feeling they aren't going to be able to help me much. It seems like this is such a common problem with the new Mini's I might be stuck with it, unless someone has a better solution or workaround.

  • Will a Mac Mini connect to my old Dell monitor?

As my old Powermac G5 is seriously out of date, I think I'm going to buy a mac mini as I have limited space for a huge imac.
However, I want to use my old Dell monitor but I'm not sure if they two will connect. The monitor is 8 years old and has one of the connectors with the two screws either site. Is there an adapter with the mini?

Yes, you can purchase a VGA to HDMI adapter or VGA to Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort. If you still want to use your G5 (I still do) then you could use a KVM switch to share a monitor, keyboard and mouse between the two.

  • Using ADC Monitor with the new Mac Mini

My husband has an Apple monitor with an ADC connection. I would like to purchase the new Mac Mini, but would like to use his current monitor. I know there is an ADC to DVI adapter, but the new Mac Mini uses the Mini Display...could I use yet another adapter? I am trying to save money, but don't want to the display quality to be really poor. Space is not an issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have located that, but my concern is the DVI connection to the Mini Display connection on the Mac Mini. My understanding is that they are different.
