Old logic board ?

Bought MacBook Pro in early 2010...Had two logic boards go bad and were replaced within 6 months time. When I view about this Mac shows to be a 2008 Mac. Does this mean the second logic board was an old logic board from 2008.

The only thing you can do is deauthorize all your computers. You can use the form at the bottom of this link. In "Please select your question", use the pulldown window & select "I need help with deauthorization".

  • What to do with old Logic Board

Logic board from Mac Pro died and I have replaced the computer with a iMac.  Anyone know the best option to get some cash for the logic board? Any place that buys broken parts like this?

A dead logic board is not worth much. But a Mac Pro case with working power supply might be worth something.
One place to sell is eBay.

  • 1st Generation iMac G5 with new main logic board but now no Bluetooth?

    Greetings:
As an owner of a 1st generation iMac, I can finally report that my iMacG G5 is now working fine since the main logic board has been replaced because of bad capacitors.
A NEW problem has been created. My internal bluetooth no longer works and is not visible in the hardware profile. I suspect that the Apple repair center may have removed my module or that it was attached to the old main logic board. On PC's running MS Windows (XP), there is a "hardware detect" routine.
QUESTION: Can anyone tell me if the internal module is visible by taking the cover off? I cannot seem to find a photo of where or how the module is attached. I can see my Airport module. Regardless, the Apple repair center said to simply bring it back in and they would fix the problem. They indicated that it was a simple software fix. After trying many different software techniques, I still believe they somehow forgot that my computer had BT and it went back with my old logic board.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Jeff

We discovered the problem. After taking my iMac G5 back to the Apple service center, I got to observe the technician remove my G5 cover and bluetooth module.
The problem was due to the fact that the initial technician apparently did not realize he/she broke off the very small connecting pins on the module when he/she removed it from the original main logic board with the bad capacitors. They simply screwed it on the main logic board. They order a new BT module to replace the broken one.
FYI: It is very easy to install the BT module on the main logic board as I observed. No soldering, etc.. The location is directly above the power supply but below the airport card. It is about the size of a postage stamp and is in clear view withou removing any parts.
    Thanks to All....Miriam...

  • MacBook Pro's logic board

    Hi,
Recently my MacBook Pro's 17" late 2007 A1229 graphics card died.
I bought a refurbished one on eBay.
The guy that solds the logic boards has tested it and it works (he got a whole refurbisched Mac parts company).
So with my old logic board, when I boot my Mac' screen shows white, the startup sound comes, and then it stops working.
With my new logic board (wich is tested and working!) when I insert the MagSafe power adaptor, a white light on the front side of the Mac (the button yoy need to push to open the screen) starts flashing, the ventilators starts rotating and the dvd-drive makes some noise.
So my Mac doesn't display anything on the screen with the new board, it just stays black!
I don't know how to fix this!
Everything is installed correct (getting my logic board out of the Mac and putting it back in it, i've done that three times!)
My Mac hardware works, because with my old logic board, it works!
The problem is, I can't test my Mac with my old board because I did a logic board exchange (it was 110$, a normal refurbished was 480$) so I can't install my old and test again..
    Does anyone have some suggestions?
All help is welcome, I really need it!
Please don't tell me that my computer is useless and my money is gone..
    Give me hope!
    thanks.

    likely display inverter board.
did you get your inverter board replaced already?
    Did you have a question?
If the diagnostic in shop indicates same, thats 1000X better than anyone can do online in "diagnosis" (not really genuine diagnosis of course)

  • MacBook Pro core i7 Logic Board Replacement But ?

Hi I'm planning on giving my MacBook Pro to Apple to replace the logic board but I have run into a issue Apple are saying they won't give me the old logic board back witch is a bit stupid if my Mac's out of warranty then the logic board belongs to me as I'm paying for the new logic board to be replaced so my question is how do I get Apple to give me my old logic board ? Thanks

That is their normal way of handling things: they keep the part they replace.
Now, if it's out of warranty and you're paying for it, I'd try to explain that part. However.... why is it that you want the logic board? If it's fried, it's no longer of any use, so why do you want it? It's not like the hard drive where you have your files stored.
As a sidenote: make sure they flash the new logic board with your serial number; otherwise your computer will suddenly not have one. That involves a special tool they insert into a USB port and it goes directly to some apple site where that board is then registered with your serial number.

  • What logic board in macbook pro retina 15-inch late 2013?

    hi
the logic board in my macbook pro retina 15-inch, late 2013 died within warrenty...
is there any way i can see what logic board my old logic board have been replaced with in 'about this mac' (or elsewhere)?
i have a suspicion that my mac is now using battery faster than before! could there be a relation?
    regards

If the iPhone works correctly on the other port, then the fault lies within the MBP.  Bring it in for service.
    Ciao.

  • Replacing logic board uni macbook pro 17"

I want to upgrade my macbook pro 17 early 2009 by replacing old logic board with logic board of macbook pro 17 mid 2009 (3.06). Is it compatible with newer one?

I can't find a definitive answer to this question, though my suspicion is that it may be compatible. But if it is, you'd be paying a very large amount of money for a speed upgrade of almost negligible significance. (2.66GHz or 2.93GHz to 3.06GHz). At most that's a 15% improvement — barely perceptible, if perceptible at all, in day-to-day use.

  • G5 Logic Boards

Hey guys. Long story short here. A while back, I had my logic board replaced in my G5 iMac with what turned out to be a defective logic board. After one issue after another, it's out of warranty.
Around the time I purchased my iMac, a recall was put out on logic boards and power supplies, which can be found here http://www.apple.com/support/imac/repairextensionprogram/
Although I purchased it in the given time frame, the serial number on my iMac does not fall in the given range. No issue there, since it doesn't have its origianl logic board. What I'm wondering is if its possible a defective logic board from that range was inserted into my iMac. I had it repaired at a certified repair facility, although not an actual Apple store. Has anything like this ever happened and if so, is there a recall on the boards specifically? The reason I wonder is my iMac was suffering from similar power issues. Obviously, I would rather avoid having to pay for defective board that was meant to replace my broken one. Thanks.
    G5 iMac   Mac OS X (10.4)

I too have had the same issues (see my rant yesterday). I am getting ready to throw in the towel. The best part is that many software vendors, mindful of the fact that folks will swap out ocmponents such as hard drives, peg their authorization to the motherboards (serial numbers). So the fun only just begins ......
When I get my mac back with a new logic board, I will then have to "reauthorize" all of those programs and "deauthorize them first on the old logic board. If I am not mistaken, you should deauthorize your iTunes music as well or it may be counted as multiple machines.
Question is - when do you throw in the towel and call it a paperweight. I had a Dell - I couldn't kill it - crappy Windowz OS and Software but rock solid.
This is my first experience with a mac - more lemon than apple frankly. Apple has probably lost a significant amount of the original profits they made on this series , so they have an incentive to fix it moving forward. Let's hope so. This is the worst QC experience in all my years of computing. Even my old Gateway 2000 didn't act like this. I love this machine, but at the end of the day - I just need the thing to work. Looks nice, sleek sexy design and all - but if I can't use it.
BTW - going on third power supply. It's the late 2004 / 2005 first generation iMac's. Now I have learned. Wait ..... just like in software ...don't but 1.0 of anything - lesson learned - the hard way

  • Logic board replaced lost itune authorizations

Just got my powerbook back from apple and discovered all my purchased music needs to be reauthorized! The logic board was replaced. The Genuis at the bar gave no warning about this. Anyone have any clues as to what happened and what I can do? Thanks in advance. Daron Powers

Check out this knowledge base article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93014
To get your computer with the new logic board to play your purchased music, you will have to authorize that computer again, since it has a new logic board (and therefore, new hardware identification.) Yes, this will use up one of your 5 allocated simultaneous computers that can be authorized. If you only have one or two other computers, then you really don't need to worry about having that one authorization 'used' by the old logic board.
There is no way to de-authorize that old logic board at this point. Once you have 5 computers authorized, you can, once per year, de-authorize all, following the instructions in that article above. That will then reclaim the authorization that went with your old logic board.
So, it isn't lost and gone forever, but it isn't trivially easy to get it back either.
    Hope this helps.

  • Logic board serial swap desperately needed

I just got the logic board replaced on my Mac Pro, and here's my problem: Over the years I purchased hundreds of plugins: VST plugins, Photoshop plugins, Final Cut Pro plugins etc etc, plus tons of apps. There is NO WAY I can spend a week reauthorizing and reserializing all this software without going broke. I absolutely need to replace the new logic board's serial number with the old logic board's serial number. My Mac Pro is from 2007, and I will stop using it as soon as Apple releases the new Mac Pros in 2013. In the meanwhile I still have to pay the bills with this old system and I don't care if the warranty is blown since soon it will just sit there for backwards compatibility (loading old projects in 2015 etc). Can anyone help? I know about Blank Board Serializer, but that only works with Logic Boards with no serial numbers. If I need to I will pay the money and buy another logic board and serialize myself if I need to, but I'm not sure it will work and I don't want to waste another $600.00.
This isn't fair. I shouldn't be penalized for being honnest and buying all this software. If I had nothing but cracks on my computer, I wouldn't need to change the LB serial number since all the software would just work anyway. So why are the Apple folks and tech support guys so unwillig to help people like me?
Does anyone have a solution? Is there a way to replace a serial LB number?
    Thanks,
    Jeeve

Cloning the drive works beautifully, as long as the logic board is the same. Over the years I've used 3 different startup drives on the same computer. CCC has allowed me to save the weeks of re-serializing everything all the time.
The dufus at the repair shop was lazy and told me he couldn't flash thew new logoic board. Now that I learned it is possible I will  take my system back to the show and make a scene, even if I have to pay for another blank logic board.
I will contact Apple if this approach doesn't work.
I never got an answer regarding softraid mirror, but that was before I realized CCC did the trick.
I understand if it was possible for anyone to flash their logic board and change the serial number there would be mass fraud, but ironically in my case, I need to duplicate the old serial number specifically because all my apps were purchased. If I had cracks this would not be an issue because they would just work with any system;-) If the repair shop doesn't want to do it I'l have to get my money back and go to Apple. I have a few friends who had the same problem and Apple transferred the old serial number to their new logic board.
In the meanwhile I'm just losing money because I can't work. So annoying!

  • Horror after new logic board installation.

    Hello,
I have an older 2008 MacBook Pro 2.5 GHz 17" computer which after years or erratic behaviour (overheating and black screen after that) forced me to buy and install new logic board. I've done it myself due to my extensive (unfortunately) experience in baking the old board. All went well. The computer booted however it took very long time to actually load the system. After 20 minutes or so I interrupted this and switched off the system. After switching again it booted quicker and loaded the system as normal. Long story short. All the components register properly under system profiler. However both firewire ports don't mount my external hard drive. The drive works perfectly with other computers. The drive (Lacie) when connected to either port (400 or 800) spins up and indicates connection made (blue light is on). I can even hear it mounting but it never shows up on the screen. The computer literally doesn't see it even after Finder relaunch. I've followed all the usual resetting procedures found on the internet with no results. Same problem with ethernet. It shows in the system profiler, after connecting cable computer sees it but no internet connection is made. The network setting says: self-assigned IP ... and shows orange indicator. I never had any of these issues with my old logic board. Again here I've done all the resetting with no results. Before coming to this forum I've spent the entire week trying to figure it out.
Can somebody please at least point me in the right direction as to what should I do.
    Artur

This is after replacing logic board with new one.
Actually there are no NEW 2008 MBP logic boards. Apple stopped having them made sometime in 2008 or 2009. All that are available now are used, reconditioned and or left over stock (but I doubt that). Seeing as the 2008 model had a recall for failed nVidia GPUs all of them have been baked and or reflowed.
So it seems the current replacement 2008 LB you have is also faulty.

  • Can a 167mhz bus logic board is kill a 133mhz bus cpu?

Well, I'm trying to upgrade my g4 MDD dual 867mhz... So i found a logic board from a newer mdd with 167mhz bus.  So anyway, to test the board (got off ebay) I put the dual 867mhz cpu and the ram..ect..  try to boot it up and I got a black screen fans running crazy??  I turned if off..   Put every think back to stock with the old logic board and it doest the same thing.  the computer worked great befor for this...  Did i kill the cpu in the high bus board?  I tryed every the resetting the PRAM, reseating the cpu.. Its just dead!   thanks for any help

The CPUs would get very hot very quickly & could be damaged because if you didn't change the Resitors that set the CPU multipliers, it would try to run the 867s at 1.08GHz.
A 25% overclock on the 867s would be a strech in my experience.

  • Have a 2 year old macbook pro that won't turn on--logic board?

We have a 2 year old Macbook Pro that will not turn on. A computer repairman said it's probably the logic board. Does Apple warrant that or are we just out $1,700?

When you attach the power adapter, does the led light up?  If so, what color?
What happens if you press the external battery check button?
Have you tried a SMC reset?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Have you had it evaluated at an Apple store genius bar or an AASP?
    Ciao.

My old 17" MBP (2005) often crashes, freezes or shows grey screen at start up. Also track pad often does not work. I have re fomatted the HD and reinstalled system but to no avail. Genius bar says possible faulty HD, but I suspect logic board. All checks out OK on the Apple Diagnostic bench. Can a Logic board go intermittant?? Any Ideas any body??

Ive repaired 1000s of laptops over the years (translate: diagnose and replace parts).
Its not that old, Ive owned 100s of laptops (most were free) ....some I still have are nearly 13 years old and still perfect, ....some extremely expensive ones died in under a year.
other than becoming obsolete at some point, there isnt really any "will spoil on" data like Milk for solid state computer parts, ....alas.
You can have a $5000 laptop die in 4 months, and a junker one keep kicking after 10 years.... Ive seen that firsthand countless times.
Common logic dictates that "very expensive = long life" in computers,..... but all the repair people will tell you just the opposite.
I know you have a gripe, I get that all too well honestly .
