Old Mac Software

Is there a site somewhere to download old Mac software, specifically the Virtual PC software? I have a Mac Mini I bought in 2006 that does not have an Intel processor and will not run the new version of VMWare Fusion or Parallels. And now I find I can't even download the Virtual PC software I need from Apple. All they have is the 7.0.3 upgrade which is useless without the original. Can someone please steer me in the right direction? I love my Mac but I have one program, a book database from Spacejock software that won't run on a Mac that I really need to access. I just need a program I can run on my Mac so I can access that program! Please help! Thank you very much!

Ok, let's backtrack this a little bit. First off PearPC is not made for Macs to run Windows it's made for PC's to run Mac OS X for PPC in emulation. What you said you have is a Mac mini G4 system, This system will not run Mac OS 9.x natively, only as Classic mode so running VPC version 6 is out of the question. VPC was a commercial product made by Connectix which was acquired by Logitech (for the QuickCam product line) and then the VPC product was sold by Logitech to Microsoft, who no longer produces Mac versions of the product only PC and Server versions which won't help you. If you want VPC 7 you either need to buy a used copy of it on eBay or some other place, or you can buy MS Office 2004 w/VPC 7 bundled together sometimes also from eBay or some other place, depending on your needs. YES VPC IS SLOOOOW. No there is no other really good option for G4 systems that want to run Windows in emulation to get a Windows app to work. It's far simpler and easier to upgrade to an Intel Mac and use either CodeWeaver's Crossover, or VMWare Fusion or even Bootcamp. There are some other (some free and open source) Emulation solutions for running Windows on a G4 system, A product named "Q" comes to mind, but like VPC they're all slow and you have to furnish your own copy of Windows, just make sure you use a version of windows that is compatible with the app you want to run, look at it's product requirements The farther back in time you go with versions of Windows the less resource hungry and thereby faster they will run on a Emulator such as VPC, Q, BOCHS, etc..

  • Running old Mac software

I have al lot of data and old Mac software. After a number of Windows years I bought a MacBook and found out that this is not backwards compatible.
I need to run a major part of the old stuff for a celebration. So I think I should buy a second hand model which is able to to so.
What would be a suitable Mac? Which OS?

If all your stuff was readable on the 1996 Powerbook, it probably was moved mostly to 1.4 MB floppies. Those are readable with USB floppy drives in Mac OS X. The old 800k floppies with a single hole in the corner even changing the write protect tab are not readable by USB floppy drives and you would need a beige G3 to convert.
MacDraw documents are readable with Appleworks, or EazyDraw:
    MacDraft has been upgraded:

Clarisworks is not easy to convert, though depending on your number of documents someone with Dataviz Maclinkplus can convert them to the word processor of your choice. Appleworks may be able to read Clarisworks documents as long as they are Clarisworks 4.
    Filemaker has been updated.

  • Macbook pro compatibility with old mac software!??

Hello! I just got my Macbook pro, and i wanted to know if there was any way to get my old games from my oldschool PowerMac from like 1994 to play on it......it says its not compatible...and that makes me sad..
    Thanks
    Dan

If your old games are OS 9 programs, then they will not run on the Intel Macs. There is an emulator called SheepShaver (www.macupdate.com) that will run OS 9. Then there's the Mini vMac that emulates an old Mac Plus.
If it's a PPC application and doesn't work then it simply isn't compatible with Rosetta.

  • Backwards compatibility with old mac software.

A relative and I want to run some old software that (I'm assuming) would run on Mac os 3.2 or under. There are many possibilities on how to run this program. We could find an old macintosh & run it from there, buy an old version of mac os (possibly 9), or download the old os and run it from a virtualization (as long as its legal). Iv'e done a bunch of research, and noticed from OS X and up, the line of operating systems are coded differently then the older releases. So, in theory, would Mac OS 9 be able to run software from os 3.2 and under?
    Optional question:
I understand that apple owns there software, and there agreement says you may run their software on their computers, (thus meaning the software is free, but the disc is not), but does that mean I can download the old operating system off the internet since its free? (or does apple have a copyright?) I want to make sure before I do anything wrong.

If you could post the name and exact version of the program in question, someone may be able to offer more specific advice.
Apple would probably not appreciate if their software is made available via third-party web sites. However, you can download complete system software 6.0.3, 6.0.5, 6.0.8, 7.0, 7.0.1 and 7.5.3 directly from Apple:
    http://www.info.apple.com/support/oldersoftwarelist.html#system
At least temporary access to a working older (pre-1998) Macintosh computer is typically required in order to produce floppy disks from downloaded files.
You may want to test whether, for example, System 6.0.8 (on a suitable Mac model) is compatible with the old program. Before you begin at all, it is usually not a bad idea to lock (write-protect) any old floppies, and then make backup copies of them (using a program such as Disk Copy 4.2).

It depends on what iPhone you have.
If it's an iPhone 4S or earlier, click here.
If it's an iPhone 5, you need to buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, and that requires an Intel Mac with at least 1GB RAM.

This software was restored to this computer from Time Machine after a theft of my old Mac. How can I fix this? It keeps telling me that there are missing files, too. If I upgrade to Elements 12 or beyond, will this fix the problem?

You can't sign in because there is nothing to sign in to. For PSE 10 the only sign in was to photoshop.com, which has been dead and gone for a year and half. Just skip the sign in. Reinstalling will not change this.

  • Just got a new imac and my iwork software wont work. I have the serial numbers but after migrating from my old mac running OSX tiger it won't even give me that opportunity. I do not have any discs as this was downloaded. Help

Just got a new imac and my iwork software wont work. I have the serial numbers but after migrating from my old mac running OSX tiger it won't even give me that opportunity. I do not have any discs as this was downloaded. Help

Hi, hopefully you guys can help me out, I just
purchased a G5 iMac to replace my aging dell desktop,
and now i'm more or less completely os x dependant
(I've had an ibook for a few months now). Anyway, I
    have a few questions:
    1. Does anyone know of a (free) mail notifier tool,
that will alert me when I recieve new pop3 mail? I
used to use AIM for this in windows
The built in email program does sound an alert for new messages.
    2. Anyone know of a good (free, again) IRC client?
    iChat works well.
    3. I noticed earlier that my screen was flickering,
it seems to have subsided for now, but is that normal
to encounter in a new display? It wasn't really bad
flicker, but I could see it.
    No idea.
    4. I leave my desktops on 24/7x365, will that be a
problem with this iMac? Display shuts off of course
    after 30 mins
You could set the iMac to go to sleep after non use. My Macs are
always sleeping when not in use, waking them up takes seconds.
Unlike windoze, never knew if it would be locked up or not.
    5. Should I get the extended warranty? I'm usually
against them, but I am expecting this computer to
last me at least 3 years (for $1300 it better!)
before I upgrade, as I got that much out of a Dell
and from what I understand, Mac's do not age nearly
    as fast as Windows pc's.
It is well worth the cost. Never know what might happen. Also
it is good insurance for future upgrades. I traded in my G4 tower
purchased two years ago for 75% of what I paid for it. Apple care
transfers, giving the buyer the remainder of your warranty.
    Thank you for any help,
    -Evan
