Old macbookpro died need idea

Hi all,
My macbookpro 15" just died due to too high temperature :-(
The hard disk looks fine and i would like to buy a new one an 17".
I have a recent time machine backup but some data are still on the mbp disk.
My question is : can i plug my old disk into the new mbp and boot on it ?
Windows won't accept but hey it's a mac ;-)

When you get a new machine and place the internal hard drive of the old machine into a IDE/SATA to USB powered adapter (apx $20 online) you can access the files directly like any other drive.
I advise manually cherry picking select files and NOT to use Migration or Setup Assistant because it copies blindly which causes issues later. If you have programs you want on the new computer, you should use FRESH sources instead and use the old serial numbers if necessary.
If the developer has a more optimized version of their program for 64bit computers you will get that, also the satisfaction that with a new machine, everything is recently updated and not carrying 3, 4, or 5 or more years of hidden issues.
Later once you got a pristine computer you should look into Carbon Copy Cloning your hard drive to a new HFS+ Journaled formatted external hard drive, it will then be "hold option" bootable. It will save your bacon many times as you can simply boot off this clone and reverse clone or access your files from another Mac or even a PC with the right software installed to read HFS format.
The issues you are having is because all your data is locked up on the TimeMachine drive and it's not option bootable.

  • Old computer died, need iPod music on new laptop

My old computer died before I could make files and transfer library. How do I get my music from my iPod to my new laptop? I need help!!

    Hello kris10new,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link after the Apple support document below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple Google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

  • Old computer died need to put itunes on new one

old computer died have no access to it need to put my old itunes on new laptop

See this User Tip for an alternative approach.
Use SyncToy to create a clone of your library on an external hard drive.
Connect the drive to the new computer, install SyncToy again and use the Sync option to copy the library in the other direction.
(ideally before installing iTunes so you don't have to remove an empty library or run the risk of it corrupting your backup.)
Update the backup periodically to guard against disaster in the future.

  • Old computer died, need to import whole library/playlists to new

My old computer died without warning last week, and thankfully I was able to recover all my music and such from my hard drive and put it on my new computer. How do I import my whole library with playlists and everything into my new iTunes? I spent tons of time putting different playlists together and don't want to have to start from scratch. Is there a way to pull them off my iPod??
    Any help is appreciated!

There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

  • Old computer died - need to get itunes songs/apps on new computer

Our old computer has died. Repair guy is able to retrieve files from hard drive. My kids have an ipod nano and ipod touch. How do we get the new computer set up and get all of the songs/apps/movies onto the new computer? Should I ask repair guy to look for specific file on hard drive or will itunes get info from their ipods when they plug in?

You should contact Adobe Support thru chat and ask them to reset your activations (Do not ask for more than that or they might not help).

  • Old computer died, need to get my music from my ipod touch to my pc, how can I do this without losing music for free!?

I have an Ipod touch with about 900 songs on it, i used to connect with my old pc until it recently broke. i have just bought a new pc and was wondering how i could get my music from my ipod to my new computer! the only thing i need is music , no videos or anything. does anyone know how i can do this for free? not very good with computers by the way!

    - Transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
    Copy music
    - If you have synced photos and some other items you will need a paid program like TouchCopy or PhoneView. They also do music.
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backyp by right clicking on the iPod uder Devices in iTunes and select Backup
    - Then restore the iPod from that backup.

Old computer died and I am trying to install Illustrator CS5 on new computer.
Last version I had before CS5 was/is Illustrator 10,which has been installed on new computer.
CS5 install says I need CS2,3 or 4 before installing 5, but old computer went directly from 10 to CS5.
How can I repeat this 10 to CS5 install?

It does not seem likely that CS6 was upgraded from version 10.  You might want to check your purchase history in your Adobe account to see if there is some missing link in the chain of purchases you made.
You can always try contacting Adobe support thru chat to see if they can find information or otherwise assist you in this matter.

Hi, I need to activate my Adobe CS3 on a new computer because my old one died and I'm having difficulty. Tried the normal registration way and then logged in with my Adobe ID and can see the software and activation code already registered. How to get it on my computer registered?

If your two activation are in use you need to call Adobe. Install CS3 to to point of activation and call Adobe at that point.  They have help me in cases like your My Disk crashed and I replaced it. Could not deactivate the crash activation.  I done that twice over the years I've been using  PS for around 20 years

  • My 7-year-old iMac died. I don't plan to replace it. It is backed up to Crashplan. Is it possible to restore my iPhoto library to the cloud, i.e. iCloud or Dropbox, so that I can access the photos as needed from my iPad or iPhone?

Probably not - but that certainly does not involve iPhoto for the Mac - you need to look at Crashplan support for you options
And iCloud is not a place to store photos so that is certainly not a possibility
If you restore your masters folder out of the iPhoto library you will have all of your original photos to do with what you please
