  • How do i transfer data from my old macbook 13" 2008 to my new macbook pro 13" but my old macbook won't turn on

hello! i went to the Genius Bar and they told me my logic board needed to be replaced on my old white macbook 13". however, i need to get my data and information from my old macbook but my old macbook won't turn on. i was told by Genius Bar that the hard drive could be accessed via the 3 screws when the battery was removed and the hard drive could be turned into a external hard drive once removed. that way i could transfer my music, movies, pictures, etc. they told me that Best Buy could do the data transfer for me. i went to Geek Squad but they told me the hard drive wasn't accessable behind those 3 screws, that the ram was there instead. i just want to transfer my data. please help!

Your Geek Squad wasn't very geeky. the hard drive is right next to the RAM.
    Here's the three screws
Here's the hard drive tab that pulls the hard drive out.
Here's the hard drive out and you can see the RAM in it's slots.

I Recently bought a new computer and I need to transfer all my iTunes data from my old computer to the new one, how can I do that? And by the way, my old computer won't turn on

    Hello Nousernamebrah
Well get get your music from your old computer to your new computer, the old computer would have to work and turn on to access the files to be copied over. You also can access any previous purchased music and download it to your new computer as well. Check out the articles below for more information.

  • Computer won't turn on HELP!

    Hi,
My computer won't turn on after a few hardware swaps I did.
    Parts :
    MSI Z77 Mpower, i5 3570k @ 4.0 Ghz, ATI HD4870, Gskill sniper low voltage 2x4gb 1600Mhz, Samsung 840 series 256gb (os), 2x ST4000DM000 (raid 1).
So here's what I did. I shut down the computer, I disconnected every wire with caution to wait for CL_CMOS LED to turn off before pulling the cord. I then switched my ram for Gskill Ares 2x8Gb 1866Mhz (occupying DIMM slots 2 and 4, same ones as my previous ram sticks) and switched my GPU for Asus R9 280x DCUII.
I reconnected everything, CL_CMOS LED powered on. When I pushed the power button, nothing. I pushed and pushed again but nothing happens. I noticed that CL_CMOS LED turns off after I try to push the ON button on my case. When I switch the power off, the LED remains off until it flashes briefly and turns off again.
I've tried putting my old parts back in 1 by 1 but it won't turn on again.
    Please help!
    edit : old ram timings (CL9-9-9-24, 1.25V) new ram timings (CL10-11-10-30, 1.5V)
edit2 : The lights on my new gpu's pcb were lit during this struggle. Power could come from the pcie adapters though.

As in Reply #1, keep that configuration and use the switch on the mainboard over to the other BIOS chip. For some reason, it sounds like the one chip may be corrupted or maybe the PSU has become faulty. Double check the security of the 24-pin and CPU power 8-pin connections.
Thanks for your help. I fixed the problem. I am a bit ashamed to say what was wrong but ... the 24 pin connector was loose on the psu side.
I figured it out after 2 days of disassembling/assembling computer and testing components.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Early 2008 macbookpro won't turn on nothing is working

I've just sifted through about 60 discussions like this but no answers that work for me. I have an early 2008 macbookpro. The battery wouldn't let me unplug the adaptor for more than a minute before it shuts down with no warning and won't turn on for 20 mins. I expect things to not work in my life so I was fine with always having it plugged in/dealing with this inconvience. Yesterday the adapter got knocked out of place and it was left on no more than 20 mins and it was competely dead. So I just plugged it back in and let it sit for a few hours assuming it just needed to charge back up. Now it won't turn on at all. The battery indicator lights all light up and then quickly fade when I press the button.  I have no idea what this means since I can't find a guide on what the indicator lights for earlier models. But there is obviously some life in it if its able to light up. The adaptor is working fine, the indicator light is green. I've tried resetting the PRAM, PMU, SMC  and reseating the RAM. Basically EVERYTHING. I don't even think it notices I'm doing these 'resets' since it has no power going throught it at all so it's of little help. I don't have an apple store near me or even the gas money to get me to one. I see some poeple with the same problems getting a new battery and it still not working. I was also under the impression that macbook pros can run with out a battery in it. Mine has never done so it always needed the battery installed to even turn on. Please help

Having had EXACTLY the same problem last night with my beloved macbook pro, I just got off the phone with a spirited apple advisor who pretty much told me that I was inaccessibly dead in the water and there was nothing I could do...And so, now I must go on leeching off of random stationary computers in efforts of attempting to get my projects and school assignments done on time.           //nearly finished with rant...
Anyways, seeing I have nowhere near the money to buy another macbookpro, I bid a farwell to the apple community for the most part
If you guys had any more luck, please share! ...if the same doomed fate, I am very sorry to hear of this mutual sorrow.

  • My MacBook won't turn on HELP ME PLEASE!!!! EEK!

I was doing math homework online and my computer just shut off.  It won't power on, no sounds, no lights, no NOTHING, and my indicator light for my charger won't turn on either..HELP please!!!!  I know the batter can't be dead because it was on the charger when it crashed
    thanks,
    Mandy

The only other option would be to take out the battery and keep it out. Plug the magsafe back in and then try to turn it back on.

  • Macbookpro won't turn on

It was completely normal before i went to bed. The next morning, it just won't turn on.
I did not shut down my macbook, it was on charger the whole night.
Now the battery life indicator won't show any lights when button is pressed. There isn't charging light when plugged (tried my friend's charger, no charging light as well). Nothing happened, no sound when the turn on button is pressed.
100% no liquid damage. It just won't turn on suddenly.
    Please help, Thanks.

    Hello killtheoriginal
Start with resetting the SMC on your MacBook Pro to get it to power back on.

  • Old iPhone won't turn on

So I activated my new iPhone and then I was doing something on my old iPhone and it froze up. So I held down home and power to restart it and now it won't turn on. The apple comes up and stays for a while but then the screen just goes black. Any ideas? Plugging it into the computer or wall charger does the same thing. Apple comes up for a few seconds and then it goes black again.

If it is in DFU mode (maybe even if it isn't)
Power it off first (or let it go black in your case)
Hold the power button for 10 seconds
Without releasing the power button also hold the home button for 30 seconds
Without releasing the home button, let go of the power button and continue to hold for 5-10 seconds (until something happens)
It should either start booting up or go black. If it goes black hold the power button to turn it on.

Tv shut itself down last night and won't turn back on. Followed support bulletin steps and didn't help. No lights, no sounds. Tv is surge protected. Need help.

Was it this support bulletin you followed? If so, it sounds like it needs servicing.

  • My iPhone4s is on but screen won't turn on help!!

I don't know what happened but it just suddenly won't turn on. The phone was never turned off. I can hear all my notifications but I can't do anything with the phone! I tryied resetting it but holding the off button and the circle button and that still doesn't work! Can anybody help me?!

Not sure what is going on but if you're hearing the alerts then it would indicate some sort of failure with the screen. I assume if the screen has failed it wouldn't matter how much you try to power it off you wouldn't be able to do so because you can't see the red slider to power it off. Have you tried plugging it up to your computer and restoring it through iTunes? I'm not sure if it would (especially if ultimately the issue is purely a screen failure) but it's something you can try. If there is an Apple store near you then you might want to stop by and let them have a look. Assuming your phone hasn't been damaged then it should still be under the manufacturer's warranty...so if it is a screen failure it should be replaced or fixed under warranty.

  • Fixing MacBook Pro For Friend - Now Won't Turn On - HELP!

    Good Afternoon -
When it comes to computers, I'm basically a PC guy.  I"m a network admin for a big company and work with Windows all day.  I'm an advid iPhone / iPad user too, though, and do a bit with OSX.
Yesterday, a friend at work and I were talking about his MacBook pro.  He inquired about a few things including Windows 7 on it.  I said I'd be happy to set up BootCamp for him.  While at it, he said that he had purchased a Lion USB drive and asked if he should upgrade.  I've done thousands of Windows installs and a few OSX ones so I said I'd do it for him.
Today, I received his MacBook Pro (Late 2008) 2.4 Intel Dual Core CPU / 2GB RAM, his software, and the Lion USB key.  I booted into OSX and copied his "profile" over the network to a SMB share.  I tried upgrading directly with Lion, but it wouldn't let me as I found out it had to be upgraded from 10.6.X - not 10.5.X.  Therefore, I decided to do a clean install.
I booted to the 10.7 Lion USB drive and went into Disk Utility where I erased the hard drive.  I only erased it - didn't repartition or change drive's format.  Before proceeding, I thought I'd be nice and go one step further for this guy and install new RAM into his computer.  It was 2x 2GB SO-DIMM 667MHZ RAM which I read would work with it and double his RAM to bring it to 4gb.  I installed it.
    The Problem
I turned the computer back on with the Lion USB in and only got a white screen.  The cursor appeared, but nothing else.  I thought that since there wasn't an OS on the HDD, that it would default to the next boot device as PCs do, but it didn't.  I turned it off, then back on again - except - it didn't come back on!
    So that's where I am.  I have a friend's computer which won't turn on.
Note:  The battery is bad I've been told and will always show only 1 light of power.  The power cord is good, though.
Here's what I've tried so far:
    - Removed the battery / power cord for 5 minutes
    - Tried with just the power inserted (Get green light on power cord)
    - Reinserted original RAM (actually did that first and it has stayed that way during all T/S)
    - Swapped RAM into other's socket
    - Removed battery & Power - held the power button down for 10 seconds - reinserted and tried to power back on
    - Got Stressed!!!
Any suggestions would be great - Thanks!!!

"Any suggestions would be great - Thanks!!!"
Have him take it to an Apple store or AASP. (Stay away from Macs. You're a PC guy).

  • Macbookpro won't turn on, why is it not charging?

MacBook Pro would not turn on, replaced battery. Worked upon installation, tried to recharged battery. Computer won't turn on. Charged light on power cord is on, but computer won't turn on.

No use posting the same message four times or more. If you're MBP is not charging and you've already replaced the battery, then it's time for a trip to your local Apple Store or AASP.
