Old mail downloads icons all over desktop on startup

All my previous mail download files appear all over my desktop on startup. I have emptied them in the trash and they still show up.
I'll really appreciate some help on this.

This could be caused by any number of problems, but first, I'd launch Mail, open the Preferences (from the "Mail" menu), and check the 5th Pop-up Menu in the General Pane ("Downloads Folder") to make certain you didn't (accidentally?) change it to "Desktop."
The default path for your Mail Downloads folder is:
~(User Home)/Library/Mail Downloads
If your Mail Prefs aren't the culprit, I'd get a copy of DiskWarrior and run it - soon.

  • HT1977 My Computer crashed so I have had to download iTunes all over again. The problem is now I can't sync my Apps to my iTunes. It doesn't let me arrange them or anything when plugging my iPad in. The screen is greylike and won't let me select anything

    Hi Guys,
My computer crashed and I lost everything. I got a new one and downloaded itunes all over again. When I plug my ipad in even after authorising my computer it will still not let me edit anything on the ipad. The screen is grey like on the ipad section and i cant select an app or anything. I have transfered purchase apps but all it does is take movies and tv shows accross. It wont transfer the apps into itunes. Please help

As far as I know, iTunes will still not change anything until you click on Apply in the lower right corner. I fiddle with my settings all the time - just so I can get a sense if what to expect should I make any changes - and I have never seen anything happen to my configuration unless I click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes. Not only that - you have turned off auto sync so as far as I know you still have to click on sync or apply in order for the iPad to sync with iTunes.
That doesn't mean it will not happen, I've never seen it happen - is all that I'm saying. I'm sorry but I'm not sure what will happen, but the only reason that I can of why the apps will not transfer is because of the manual manage setting. I could be wrong about that as well.
Look at this discussion - which I have referred quite a few users to read. I know this process has worked for a number of people that have read it and used the instructions in it. Maybe we are missing something - what that would be - I'm not quite sure, but take a look.

I rented a movie directly from Apple TV. I finished downloading successfully, however, I didn't start watching it right away. Now, a day after, I want to watch it, but ATV tells me I have to start the downloading process all over again. WHY? I thought after sucessfully downloading the movie to ATV, it would be available for 30 days in my ATV, without having to download again. To my surprise, it tells me I have to download all over again. It took me 3 hours to download the movie, now I have to repeat the process? Can someone tell me why? Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV will delete content if it is used to plat something else or is turned off. It only has a limited amount of volatile memory.
If you want to download something for watching at a later time, it would be best doing it from iTunes on your mac/PC and streaming it to the Apple TV when you are ready to watch it.

  • Icons all over the place

Are there any permanent settings in Macbook Pro that I can apply to the icons on all my folders so they are lined up?  (By the way, I don't want this to happen to my Desktop icons)
Everytime I open a folder, the icons are all over the place even though I went to "Keep Arranged Bar" option and fixed it.  Also, it keeps changing the Grid Spacing all the way to the max and it's extremely annoying to having to redo for every single folder.  Help would be much appreciate it.

  • How do I change an Apple ID payment method to 'None'? I've tried everything and the only solution is to get a new e-mail and start all over again. Any other options?

How do I change an Apple ID payment method to 'None'? I've tried everything and I found the only solution is to apply all over again with another e-mail address. Any other options?

Buy an iTunes Music Card and redeem it to your account - the "none" option should be available then.

  • Trying to update iPhone firmware and it's making me download update all over again!

    Hi all,
Alright so I am trying to update the firmware on my iPhone 4 which currently has iOS 5.0.1. I plugged it in, opened iTunes, and clicked update. I went through the agree/disagree  and the "backup/don't backup" popups Then, iTunes started to download the firmware update. After two hours of download time, it finally finishes. I unplugged my iPhone to make a call, then plugged it backin to go ahead and install the update. I go to my iphone on the left hand column of iTunes, click update, go through all the same popup windows and then iTunes stars to download the entire update all over again!!! I even checked the library directory where iTunes downloads the firmware/restore files (.ipsw files) to, and notice that the original update file is still there (iPhone3,1_5.1.1_9B206_Restore.ipsw), and it is downloading the exact same file all over again. Why is it doing this? I don't want to have to wait another two hours!
    Thanks for any help,
    James

Try shift-clicking (windows) or option-clicking (mac) on the Check for Update button in iTunes and when prompted navigate to the .ipsw file.

  • Downloads scattered ALL over the hard drive

Trying to gain a little control over the downloading process; I have always set Firefox to "Always ask me where to save files". For the first half of FF's life that worked perfectly fine; saving a file brought up the appropriate dialog box, showing the location I lasted saved to and asking if I wanted to use that one again.
I can see how that might be a privacy concern on a shared computer like the Recently Used Files list that comes with so many applications but it has never been a concern for me.
What does bug the absolute $%&%$&% Hell out of me is that FF now pops up the most goddawful random locations as suggestions. No matter hoe consistently I use the same folder, FF suggests places that are quite literally ALL over the hard drive with no detectable rhyme or reason. I have been waiting patiently for the development team to correct whatever they did to make FF unable to do this most basic task that it was quite capable of achieving with apparent ease at least as far back as its Phoenix days. But, alas, the "Let's Break Everything" release of the week schedule has never fixed the problem.
What gives? Does anyone have a fix for the problem? I know that it has affecting tons of people for just as long because I've heard the complaints.

I've give that a try. I'm not sure it will help because it does this even when every download is coming from the same site. But anything is worth trying. Thanks

  • Leopard install fails - No Previous systems - packages all over desktop

*My basic question is this*...+Can I hack into the "packages" and other weird files that the Leopard install has left all over my hard disk (in a mid-install failure) to try to retrieve, photos, stickies, and AppleMail?+
History: After an iTunes "update" I got a bluescreen on restart. After repeated restarts and ample time (hours) for a reboot, I thought it might be time for the Leopard upgrade. I booted off Leopard DVD and ran Disk First Aid first, then installed Leopard. The install failed midway and left weird install "packages" all over my HD. I was only able to see these after booting off of an external disk. No previous systems or Users were anywhere in the mess left from the mid-install failure. I bought a new 500GB HD and tried to install Leopard on that...also failed. I booted off of the external again and copied the "mess" from the internal HD to the new HD in case the internal factory HD failed or was failing.
Phone support said it was a bad DVD. Wrong!...I used that Leopard DVD on my G4 to create the external boot disk. I took the G5 into the Apple store and they couldn't install off of the DVD, or their mini-drive(s). They ran Disk Warrior and it went nowhere. They kept the G5 and replaced the HD but said they needed to "image" the OS Leopard onto the disk because the install failed. After picking the Mac up, I didn't think this was acceptable and returned the G5 which was sent out for testing. It was determined that it was bad factory RAM that was the culprit. RAM replaced.
Now my original internal HD with any historical hidden files or other "baggage" is gone (mistakenly-prematurely replaced) and Disk Warrior and DATA Rescue doesn't seem to work on these weird files that I copied from that original disk.
Naturally, this G5 (wife's new computer) was the only one in the house not backed up. I was installing Leopard to use Time Machine with my new Time Capsule. To add insult to injury, I'd recently talked my wife into using iPhoto and AppleMail. She will never forgive me for that! As much as I love the on board apps, I am finding it is inherently dangerous to have your eggs in those baskets because all the integrated Apps (iPhoto, Mail, stickies, iTunes, document folder, etc) were/are destroyed or "packaged up" in an upgrade and the 3rd party apps (and their ancillary files, mails, etc) were all fine. (Eudora, Adobe apps, etc.)
_If there is a way to "crack" open those files and get to at least the photos, that would be great._
Otherwise, I have learned 6 things from this experience. 1. Backup your photos, music and Document folder (minimum) today...and everyday. 2. Don't think that a simple iTunes update is necessarily innocuous. 3. Mac Genius is a title and job, not a degree or intellectual state. 4. Endorsing computer applications to your spouse is not necessarily a good idea. 5. A computer crash can lead to severe depression and other issues that will negate any quality of life advances you thought your computer had afforded you to date. 6. Backup everyones computer - today! I wish I felt better now, but I don't!

a true horror story. i can only commiserate. I'm not at all sure your pictures and other stuff are actually in one of the packages that are left but you can use [Pacifist|http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12743] to open them up and restore anything useful you find inside.

  • Screen icons all over the place after wake up?

I have found recently that sometimes after I wake my screen up after sleep that the dock is missing and my apps are all over the place and i have no home screen anymore?! Has anyone else come across this? I also found that sometimes my screen goes bright white and nothing seems to fix it apart from resetting it by holding down the home button and the screen off button. Would love to find out if this is simply a few bugs in the software and not a glitch in the phone! Thanks

  • I forgot my iphone password, and everytime i try to restore it, it begins downloading ios all over again, which takes up to 5 hours. But my iphone software is completely up to date. Why is it doing this?

So basically i set a passcode and forgot it.. I want to restore my iphone. It's an iphone five and currently the software is all up to date. However whenever I try to restore it, I get this message that it's contacting the apple software server and then it begins downloading i.os which takes up to 5 hours. Why is it doing this?

The only way to deal with a forgotten passcode is to restore the phone.

  • Old mail keeps being delivered over and over and over

Hi, I am new to this forum.  I have a Bold 9700.  Ever since Aug 7th (today is the 11th), I have been receiving the same 4 or 5 emails over and over and over on my Blackberry. I deleted them on both the handheld and email...that didn't work, I opened them, then deleted them, that didn't work.  The emails are not on my server, I do not get them in my email inbox on the computer, yet probably 6 ot 7 times a day, I get those same emails over and over and it won't stop.  Any ideas on what to do?  Is it a Blackberry problem?
Thanks in advance for your repoly.

You're about the 6-7th person I know this happened to, including myself, from the same original time period, starting this past Sunday morning.

  • My iPad shows the downloading icon all the time

My iPad constantly shows the down load icon

Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
