Old mobo and cpu compatibility

Hi everyone,
I have an old pc with a msi ms-7301 and an Intel core 2 duo e6300.
I want to buy on ebay an Intel core 2 extreme x6800 to upgrade this old and slow computer...
Will the mobo support this cpu?
They are both lga 775, 1066mhz FSB, 65nm...
p.s.
I know that this mobo is OEM, but please help me, don't close this topic! Packardbell has a very bad support and my computer is very old... I contacted them but they didn't reply me
Thanks.

  • 770-C45 and CPU compatibility

    Hi,
First, I'd like to thank the retarded genius who chose a terrible captcha which wasted me 8 minutes trying to decipher it before I could register :D
Anyways, here's the real question since it wasn't very obvious from MSI's site.
I'm planning to purchase the 770-C45 mobo and would like to use on it an AMD Athlon II X3 445 @ 3.1 GHz. According to the CPU support page of this mobo model, it's in the list. What's not very clear to me is if this processor *by default* is supported or not, or whether I'll have to upgrade the BIOS first. Well, you could say "duh, it's in the list so it should be supported". But the list, even though the CPU is on it, only mentions a BIOS version and I can't find which BIOS version the mobo is shipped with.
    Thanks

There is a sticker on the BIOS chip telling you what BIOS is installed on the board.
And the retard is me, thanks to spammers who like to abuse forums
Yes, but I *don't have* the mobo yet. As I said, I'm planning to buy it (from online shop) but there's no info on the BIOS version nor can it be seen on the one pic they provide. That's why I'm asking. Obviously, one needs to have a supported CPU installed so it can boot up, do a BIOS flash if needed, and then install the desired CPU (in this case the 445). I don't have any other CPU lying around which will work with this model and MSI's site is as clear as mud on this one. They provide information about from which BIOS version and upwards a specific CPU model is supported, but don't say a thing with which BIOS version the specific mobo is shipped with so a person could know in advance if he needs to flash it or not. Most online shops don't provide info on the BIOS either, so go bang your head
About the captcha, there are better ones and as effective as the one used here, yet much better readable. Have a look at ReCAPTCHA, used by a lot of sites

  • Power Mac G4 MDD MOBO and Processor Compatibility

I have two G4 MDD Motherboards. One MOBO is a 820-1474A (FW800) and the other is a 820-1476A (with just 2 FW 400 ports). I was told the 1476A is a 167Mhz buss and the 1474A is a 133Mhz buss board. I've tried installing a Dual Processor module PN 820-1472A onto the 1476A board but it doesn't work. It powers on, all the fans turn on, the processor gets warm and I see a RED light come on near the RAM slots but I don't hear that normal Apple 'GONG' sound during turn on. I know Apple built numerous CPU's (single and dual)for the MDD and some of these CPU's are not cross compatible. I'm really confused now with all these PN's and what CPU's can work on what MOBO. Where can I go to find out what PN's are compatible?? I tried two other single processor CPU's 1.25Mhz with the 1474A MOBO and I get the same results as I do with the 1474A MOBO. So now I have all these parts and no confidence on what is good and what is bad??
More Background -- I've got 2 brand new 512MB PC 2700 chips purchased from '4 All Memory' specifically for a G4 MDD, an Radeon ATI video card that works fine in one of my other G4's and my boot drive is an IDE 320G with OS 10.4.11 installed and the power supply is a API1PC36 (360W).

  • Move Windows 8.1 Pro Hard Drive, Graphics Card and Programs to New Motherboard and CPU

Want to move everything, hard drive, installed programs, video card, network adapter, ram drive, DVD, from one computer to another, nothing will change except motherboard and CPU.  Old motherboard and CPU will be installed in a new computer case which
will revert back to a Windows 7 Pro computer with a fresh install and no programs to be used as a dedicated CAD work station. Motherboard and CPU swap will be the only change, even the RAM will be the same.  What activation problems will I encounter,
I do not want to re-install anything, if possible.

    Hi,
I would like to confirm what kind of licensing you used on Windows 8.1, the OEM or the retailed.
For the OEM one, the Windows 8.1 transferred to another new Motherboard will not be activated.
For the retailed one, you should find that the system will boot with the new motherboard, install some drivers then boot successfully.
You will need to use telephone activation for the updated system, but should not need to re-install. When warned that you need to activate, select the "Contact Microsoft Customer Support" option and follow the instructions. With a tone dial phone
you can do this without speaking to anyone. See http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/24636-activate-windows-8-phone.html

  • Mobo and NO CPU

    all,
3 questions?  (1) what happens when you have a healthy KN8 plat system without a CPU when you attach power to the PSU? (2) same as 1, but assume PSU has been plugged in and you then  hit the power switch (again no CPU) ? (3) if the system turns over (from no 2) does the bios post with a CPU error ?
    Thanks in advance,
    ventura

    tire,
this was a hypothetical question to see what a healthy system does...that being said...I have another thread about my current problem that is call "is this a bad board"
MY (2nd RMA, that fails differently then the original) system has 4 red LED's....as soon as you plug in power to the PSU the whole case powers on without hitting the power switch (drives, LED's ect)
but the bios does not post, and the vdo card and CPU do not get warm. I have pulled the CPU and the same behavior happens.
the long and short of it is this: I am trying to determine if my mobo or CPU is the issue. I think mobo (based on the fact the the power/reset buttons are not working and none of my componets are heating up) but knowing the answer to the oringinal questions (specifically 1 and 2) will assist greatly in knowing if I should send my processor out to AMD for replacement also
    Thanks

  • P6N SLI Platinum - Model 7350 - CPU Compatibility and 4 Red Lights

The CPU compatibility list shows that the Intel E6400 is "under testing". I have been running the subject motherboard with an E6400 for 2 months before a system failure.
The system would not post and the D-Bracket connector showed 4 red lights indicating processor damage or not installed properly. The processor was removed and reseated. Still no post. The processor was removed and replaced with a new E6400. Still 4 red lights. the power supply tested ok. All components were removed and reinstalled one at a time. Still 4 red lights. The mother board was removed from the case and tested outside the case with no components. Still 4 red lights.
Although Intel replaced the processor (as indicated above) one technician stated that the motherboard is "under testing" and he was concerned about long term compatibility.
My last recourse is to replace the 7350 motherboard but I want to be sure it is compatible with the E6400.
Any help or advice regarding the compatibility issue or the 4 red light failure issue is appreciated.
    Thanks.

Tried resetting CMOS several times (pushed button). Power Supply disconnected. Removed battery. Replaced battery. Motherboard out of case. only thing installed is video card. Still 4 red lights.
Should also tell you that memory was removed from 2 slots and put back into 1 slot. No change.
Is this motherboard compatible with the E6400?

I'm afraid that MSI will go strictly by 1150 socket, and will only continue to develop them, and forget about 1155

  • K7T Pro2-A CPU compatibility...?

    Hello ppl,
    I have this mobo(http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=99&MODEL=MS-6330%20Ver1.0C)
Here are the "official"(sic) cpu compatibility charts(http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/cpu_support/cpu/spt_cpu_detail.php?UID=99)
I'd like to make some questions...
Which is the highest clock processor I can put?
I think AMD Athlon (Thunderbird core) 1400 MHz is, but the
highest manual multiplier I have seen in the BIOS (3.6v
latest) is only 13.5x (although the automatic "MAY" work at 14x, not tested)
Is it possible to put an AMD Athlon 1800+ (Palomino core, 0.18um like the thunderbird)
provided that I manually set the FSB at 100 MHz?
I suppose that because of the 0.18 manufacturing process,
palomino 1800+ should have (at least) electrical compatibility with the mobo...
I should also mention that it is possible to set the CPU
    voltage as low as 1.3V
Taking into account this fact, is it possible to put an
    0.13um Athlon (Thoroughbred (256KB L2 Cache), Barton (512KB L2 Cache))?
Does anyone know anything about these cores' electrical compatibility with this mobo?
Has anyone tested any of the above?
Is there any chance/risk of frying the cpu and/or mobo?
My old Duron 750 MHz died :(, and I wanna put something as
fast as it gets (assume that I DON'T want to change the mobo)
Considering the above, I have four choices of cpu upgrade (with descending order).
       1) put an Athlon XP 0.13um Barton 2500+ (best choice)
       2) put an Athlon XP 0.13um Thoroughbred 2000+ (less better choice)
       3) put an Athlon XP 0.18um Palomino 1800+ (mediocre choice)
       4) put an Athlon 0.18um Thundebird 1400 MHz (worst choice, also see ps2)
Which of the above four choices are working?
    Thx in advance!
ps1: I don't care if the FSB is gonna stuck at 100 MHz.
ps2: Here in Greece, you can hardly find anything less than 2 GHz, or 2000+.

No 0.13u CPU can run in this board
Only CPUs with 200Mhz FSB can run
The CPU can set the miltiplier, the fact there is no x14 multiplier would only be a problem if you try and setit manually rather than default.

  • MS-6309 and CPU problem

    Hi
I have MS-6309 V2.1 (newest bios) and a regular Intel Celeron 933MHz. Recently I tried to upgrade it to Intel Coppermine 1GHz 256kB cache, but it was doing mathematical errors (random freezing, kernel error, different md5sums of the same file) (in any OS). MEMTEST went OK so I thought the CPU was bad so I tested it in my friend's mainboard and it was OK, so I tested my friend's CPU (the same, only little older release) in my mobo and it was doing the same errors.
So my mobo is bad or it doesn't have proper microcode for my CPU (which may be eventually newer than newest BIOS release) what brings me to point-> How can I update microcode in old AMI BIOS? MMTool and AMIMMDOS works only on newer bioses.
    Sorry for my english

So here's specifications of my old creepy computer:
    Mobo: MS-6309 V2.1 with BIOS v3.6
    RAMs: Apacer 128MB UNB PC133 CL3 + PQI PC-133 MS3828UPS
    CPU: Intel pentium III 1000/256/133/1.7V Q111A368-0941 SL4MF
    PSU: regular 300W
    HD: irrelevant
    RM: CD-ROM 54X read
To Frederik about windows: There never had been one (according to former owner) before I got it and there also has never been windows since I got it.
To Stu: I was looking for some old computer to be used as media-centre and webserver when I got this one for free from my friend. And it was beyond my expectations, cos I was looking for some 500MHz, 64MB RAM (which doesn't have problem playing 1400x1050 xvids and DVD's).
OS: Gentoo, Debian, GeeXbox, Xubuntu, TinyME, Sidux, and others..
Either they run from harddisk or CDROM they freeze or do mistakes in calculations (usually it means crashed program or kernel or programs do what they shouldn't). If you f.e. run md5sum with the same file 10x at least two sums will be different.
CPU temperature doesn't go beyond 40-45°C.
The CPU runs well in other mobos (with the same rams or not) and other 1GHz coppermines runs also wrong in my mobo (with my rams or any other rams). So i think it's either CPU problem or BIOS problem (old microcode or something else).
    sorry for my english

  • G41M-P34 mobo Vid Card compatability

My VESA 9500 1G just fried ,k so time to Upgrade
    Will the G41M-P34 take any Vid card? IE - PCI = yes ,, PCI-2 =??? ,, PCI-3 = ???
I am Extremely happy with the G41M-p43 and have been running it Since 2005 /6
Maybe Time to Upgrade MoBo to an i7 and pass this one off to the Kid
Any recommends for a 2gig Vid card for the G41M-P34
Recommends for a New i7 + moBo and 3gig or 4g Vid card

G41M-P34 is a totally outdated board using PCI-E Gen 1. As all Gen2 and above AMD cards are causing compatibility issues with old Gen 1 boards you can already forget about any Radeon card. With Nvidia cards chances are better but none the less It might still not work if the outdated bios refuses to work with a current generation vga. Compatibility issues when trying to combine ancient hardware with latest stuff are waiting to happen. To be pretty safe get any used GTX660(ti)/670/680 to upgrade the current machine. Also be aware that the size of the vram does not say anything about the performance of the card.
For a new machine if wanting an i7 and not considering oc get i7-4790 else get i7-4790K.
Good boards would be Z97 GAMING 7, Z97-GD65 GAMING or Z97 MPOWER. Everything below those doesn't offer a backup bios and everything above doesn't really add more useful features.
For a vga R9 280(x) GAMING are very cheap at the moment and can be a good deal, same goes for GeForce GTX 780 GAMING cards. 780 is the by far faster of course. The very latest generation would be the GTX 970.

  • A CPU compatibility question for the P35 Neo-F

    Hello.
I was considering buying a P35 Neo-F to go along with an e5200.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130095
However after going through the comments it seems the e5200 may require a bios flash to work. I found MSI's CPU compatibility list (http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=prodpage2&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=170&cat3_no=2) but it doesn't list a P35 Neo-F. The P35 Neo, while sharing the same picture as the Neo-F, doesn't list the bios versions mentioned in the Newegg comments and on other parts of the internet. Can anyone help me clear up this confusion?

I swapped my 533mhz ram for one test stick of 667mhz and it now has monitor output. It wont accept input from my USB keyboard so I'm using an old PS/2. It gives me the option of switching to post or going to a bios setup menu. They both bring me to the same page (not sure what this is, post?) giving me my bios version (1.7), cpu info, ram info, saying USB Controllers are loaded, and telling me to press F11 for a boot menu. At this point my keyboards become unresponsive, though interestingly if I plug in a USB keyboard it's LEDs will light up.
Assuming this behavior is all normal for an unsupported CPU I could install my Pentium D long enough to flash the bios. There are some major problems with this:
I don't have any spare thermal paste. I can't use my e5200 heatsink with my Pentium D and I'm afraid of having to reseat the heatsink onto the e5200 without new paste.
The Pentium D heatsink either appears to be a BTX design or a Dell proprietary design and wont fit into this motherboard. I have considered simply placing the heatsink ontop the processor just long enough to be able to flash the bios. On one hand it wont be doing anything really intensive and creating alot of heat, but on the other it is notorious for being hot and I don't want to damage it or have it shut down while I'm mid bios update.
If I really need to I could bother my neighbor for some thermal paste, he may very well have some.
I very much appreciate your advice.

  • Problem with memory usage and CPU usage

    Hello,
i have a problem with the memory usage and cpu usage in my project!
My application must run for more than 24 hrs. The problem is that the longer it runs the bigger is the memory and cpu usage!
It starts with ~15% CPU usage and ~70 MBytes memory usage. After ~ 24hrs the CPU usage is ~60% and the memory usage is ~170 MBytes!
After  3 days the CPU usage is almost about 70% and the memory usage is about 360 MBytes!
What can I do to reduce this huge recource usage?
    Thank you!

    Hi Pahe,
I think the issue is memory usage, since CPU usage can increase due to greater memory requirements.
Anyway, it's difficult to debug without seeing your code, can you post it (possibly for LV 7.1 compatibility)?  Or just post a JPEG of the piece of code that can give problems...
I guess you're appending data to an array instead of replace data elements, but I can't be sure...
       Have a nice day!

  • Macbook Pro fan running constantly and CPU running slow

So, I have a Macbook Pro 2010 2.3 i7 that has started running really slow and the fan is running constantly.
In activity monitor it shows a kernel_task running constantly at around or above 200%.
I have tried all the regular tasks.  PRam reset, SMC reset and nothing seems to fix it.
I have also tried a system reinstall to no avail.
Maybe I'm on the wrong track, but from what I have read, the kernel_task might be trying to slow my CPU down because it thinks it is being overworked?
Maybe the fans are also being activated because it thinks the computer is too hot?
Anyway, if anyone has any idea as to what I can do to figure out what is going on, let me know.  Thanks

  • How can I get the Microsoft enhanced Point and Print compatibility driver installed on Win7 LC master?

We recently migrated from a Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012 print server. When recomposing a linked clone pool with the old 2003 server, drivers were taken care of for the printer when the user printed for the first time after desktop recompose. With 2012, any printer using the Point and Print driver doesn't seem to obtain the driver again from the 2012 server. All of our clients are running Windows 7 which means the Microsoft enhanced Point and Print compatibility driver is not installed in the OS natively.
I apparently need to figure out a way to get this installed on the host image so it trickles down to snapshots when recomposing the linked clone pool but I haven't been able to dig much information on doing this. Does anyone out there have any insight on how to accomplish this? If I recompose a pool now for a user who is using a new Point and Print driver, they get the following message that is resolved by removing the printer from their account and re-adding it:
"The 'Microsoft enhanced Point and Print compatibility driver' printer driver is not installed on this computer. Some printer properties will not be accessible unless you install the printer driver. Do you want to install the driver now?"
I figured the easy solution would be to just install a printer using the Point and Print driver and then remove it...leaving the driver behind (unless it cleaned up after itself). The problem with this is in my testing, even after removing and re-adding a printer that set off installation of this Point and Print driver on the client, any other printer that was using it still required the remove/re-add process in order to work, else I got the same message. That tells me that the driver may be custom for each printer installed?
Color me a little confused. I do NOT like the way that Server 2012 handles printers. I've come across a few other issues as well (such as duplex capabilities not being remember on the print server for a printer) that I never had with the 2003 server.
    Thanks!!

I was able to get it to work using your instructions off of here and your other thread
    Thank you!
    Chris
