Old music files with DRM protection

I have some old music files with DRM protection.  I don't see an option to pay for an upgrade so I can get DRM-free files.  Is there a way to do that?  I keep reading posts about iTunes Plus but they're all old posts so I assume that option is gone.  Thanks!

It is back from time to time.  Keep watching under quick links

  • Syncing new computer with old music files with Iphone.

    Hello all, recently I got a new computer and transfered all my old music files over and updated my itunes on my new pc. I also de-authorized my old pc and authorized my new pc. However, when I plug in my Iphone into my new computer it doesn't seem to be syncing at all. I've also added a new album to my music files on my new pc and since my iphone isn't syncing, the songs haven't shown up on my phone. I was wondering does anyone have a solution to this? or what I need to do to have my new pc syncing with my iphone?
    Thanks.

    Can someone help here?

  • Old music still has DRM protection?

    iTunes stopped placing DRM on their purchased music some few months back. Ok, so all the music I've purchased since then is DRM-free. But what about the music I bought before the change? Does it still have DRM protection? and if so, is there a way to remove it?

    Ok well I just figured out that iTunes will charge you 30% of the original price to remove DRM protection from previously purchased songs. Is there a way to do it cheaper?
    No. The only things that you can do with those old DRM-encumbered iTunes files are (1) play them in an Apple device or program, (2) pay to get them upgraded, or (3) use iTunes to burn them to an *audio CD* which can be used like any *audio CD.*

  • Connect the music file with the artwork file post-computer-crash?

    I want to retrieve artwork after restoring my computer?
    So my computer (where itunes app data was stored) and my external hardrive (where my itunes library was stored) crashed, but luckily I had my itunes library was stored on dropbox so I have that uploading to my revived computer!
    I have access to all my "old computer's" files (via a mounted image file that looks just like an external drive H: )
    The "old computer" itunes used my dropbox folder for the library (J:work\Dropbox\Allen's Transfer Folder\iTunes)
    my "New comuter" uses a local folder but the contents are exactly the same (C:\Companies\Dropbox\Allen's Transfer Folder\iTunes)
    How can I get the artwork data from my "old computer" onto my "new computer" so that itunes will connect the music file with the artwork file?
    is there a data file and will they automatically sync to the artwork if they are in different locations?
    Thank you for your help, Allen

    … is there any reason i shouldn't delete the artwork folder?
    All of my music is from CDs, so all of my cover art are scanned images that I added to the music files in iTunes. My Album Artwork folder is heavily populated nonetheless. Thus, it stands to reason that if you delete the folder, just like every other default item in your iTunes folder it will be recreated when you launch iTunes. If I recall correctly, that folder also holds the data files for building your CoverFlow.

    itunes only demarcates songs whose files are missing with an exclamation point after i click on the song. otherwise everything appears as normal. if i quit itunes and reopen it, nothing is marked with the exclamation point until i click on it.
    I personally have never had an issue with missing song links, but based on what I had read on the Macworld forums over the years, when links are lost, people start seeing /!\ next to several tracks in their iTunes library. Of course, most of the instances that I have read about have been after iTunes updates so perhaps it is during the library updating after a software update that causes the automatic detection of broken links. Otherwise, it does make sense that iTunes would not check a link until the user selects an unlinked song, because iTunes does not, and should not, scan your entire library for no apparent reason.

  • Associating music files with palylists and/or music library

    My HD went out but luckily (I thought) I had a backup of my iTunes folder on an external drive. After installing the new hard drive and all the updates to TIGER 10.4.x I copied my original iTunes folder to new drive to the music folder.
    I see all my files in my library and play lists, but they all have an "!" by them and when I choose a particular song, a message comes up saying that iTnes can NOT find the associated music file (even though the file is actual there in the iTUnes folder and on my HD). Short of manually associating every library/playlist song with the actual music file (more that 2,000 files), is there any automated process or method to associate all the music files with the library/playlist files?????

    Morris:
    First, back up your iTunes Library file - just in case the original gets damaged, you will have a clean copy to restore to.
    *From the File menu, select Export Library and save as an .xml file to your desktop.
    *Go to iTunes Preferences>>Advanced, and make sure that you have DESELECTED Copy music to iTunes folder when adding to library and SELECTED Keep iTunes Music folder organized.
    *Close iTunes
    *Now, go to the ~/Music/iTunes folder and remove the
    b iTunes Library
    file from this folder.
    *Restart iTunes - your Source Menu and Library should be empty of everything except the standard preset playlists.
    *From the File Menu, select "Add to Library" and navigate to the location of your music files.
    *When the import process is finished, go to the File Menu, select Import and navigate to the Library.xml file you created in the first step.
    Your links between songs should be reestablished and your metadata intact.
    Good luck and let us know how you make out.

  • How to Identify whether my WMA file is DRM protected?

    A friend just loaded some audio files of our lecture class onto my computer that are .wma files from a usb drive recorder she owns. I downloaded one or two programs to try to convert them so I could play them on iTunes but the programs didn't work.
    I can play them on QuickTime but I would really like to be able to play them on my iPhone and format/organize them on my iTunes (since that is where all of my other audio files are).
    I'm worried they aren't converting correctly because they are DRM-protected, though I don't know why they would be! Can anyone tell me where to find out in the audio file if the file is DRM protected or not?

    I can play them on QuickTime
    They're not protected. Try using Switch or EasyWMA.

  • Mobipocket ebook (prc file with DRM) on webOS PALM PRE

    Hi everybody
    I want to know if i can read ebook bought on Mobipocket (prc file with DRM)
    Thanks a lot
    Post relates to: Pre Plus p100ueu (SFR)

    Hello and welcome to the forums;
    Our phone support is open every day Monday through Sunday, although there are different hours of operation for the weekend. If after a webOS Doctor reset you are still experiencing the same problems, I would likely recommend replacement, either in a local store for your carrier or through our technical support department.
    There may be additional technical support offered or suggested over the phone, this would need to be done first before a replacement could be issued.
    Hope this helps,

  • How can I transfer my old music files to my new iPod using a different computer from that used on the old iPod?

    I got a brand new iPod and wanted to put the music files on my old iPod to the new one. In addition to this I would like to know how to sync my new iPod to a different computer from that of the old one. Is it possible for me to accomplish all this with music rescue?

    Put everything on one computer and sync to that computer.

  • Zen Micro - copying WMA files with DRM using WM

    I have Windows 98SE and Windows Media Player 9. I was wondering, if I get a Zen Micro, will I be able to use WMP 9 to copy DRM-protected WMA files to my device, or do I have to use the Creative software? I read in another post something about the 2.x branch of the firmware being needed for Plays For Sure compatibility -- does this mean I would need this firmware to use WMP? Does the 2.x firmware have the fixes for the battery drain problem, etc.
    One more question. With my Muvo TX FM, Windows Explorer recognizes it as a removable dri've, and I can drag-and-drop non-DRM MP3s directly to it. Is this possible with the Zen Micro?
    Thanks,
    Huck

  • Old music file needing to be organized

    Recently I had all my old WMA files converted to MPEG, but to my chagrin they are all now in one great big "unknown" album - 2.9 days, 4.82 GB - with nothing more than the name of the song & it's individual length in time. Bummer ... I haven't a clue who's singing or on what album ... this makes it really difficult to try to reorganize them back to individual albums & artists.
    I have a friend who's got a iPhone ... now we're out eating and I said "who's that singing" in reference to the background music? She grabs her phone, holds it up toward the speaker, and next thing I know she's telling me that's the Moody Blues and the song's name and anything else I needed to know.
    Cool ... but what I need to know "Is there a way that I can do this with all this music I have on my computer and not a clue as to the artist singing or what album it was on?"
    Thanks for the help,
    JD

    I had a tech out to the house and I am not sure what application he used. I will find out and about the ID3 tags. And I have not been able to find the wma files anywhere. I've got to go to work, but will do some research & post later. Thanks.

  • How do I use old data files with a new installation in Oracle 9i

    I am in an unenviable position, with an unsupported database.
    We are running Oracle 9i on Windows XP. We are upgrading soon to Oracle 11g on a newer platform, but need to get our development environment working first.
    We lost a system that was running our development database without having a database export. The C drive was placed into a new system as the D drive.
    I have loaded Oracle 9i on the C drive, but I have been unable to determine how to point it to the existing data files on the D drive. My search skills may be the limiting factor here...
    We cannot simply load the drive as C, since the hardware is different.
    What are the steps to point the new database software at the data files on the D drive? Or, how do I copy the old data files into the new Oracle Home and have them recognized properly?
    Thanks for any advice.

    Are you stating that you don't know how to use COPY command?
    Can you recreate same directory structure on new C drive as exist on old C drive?
    Can you then drag & drop copies of the files?

  • Playing a music file with QuickTime

    I am new to QuickTime programming. I am using Quick Time Version 7.4.5 on Windows Vista. I am simply trying to play a music file as a movie, no video. It successfully creates the movie object and the control displays but no music is played. I am using QTOControl (COM libraries for use with .net) for Windows. Can anyone tell me what I am missing in the below code snippet?
    using System;
    using System.Collections.Generic;
    using System.ComponentModel;
    using System.Data;
    using System.Drawing;
    using System.Text;
    using System.Windows.Forms;
    using System.Runtime.InteropServices;
    using QTOControlLib;
    using QTOLibrary;
    namespace WindowsApplication2
    public partial class Form1 : Form
    public Form1()
    InitializeComponent();
    private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
    string errMsg = "";
    try
    axQTControl1.ErrorHandling = (int)QTErrorHandlingOptionsEnum.qtErrorHandlingRaiseException;
    axQTControl1.URL = "C:\\path to music file.m4a";
    axQTControl1.CreateNewMovie();
    if (axQTControl1.Movie != null)
    axQTControl1.Sizing = QTSizingModeEnum.qtMovieFitsControl;
    axQTControl1.Movie.AutoPlay = true;
    axQTControl1.MovieControllerVisible = true;
    axQTControl1.Movie.Play(1.0);
    catch (COMException ex)
    // catch COM exceptions from QT control
    errMsg = "Error Code: " + ex.ErrorCode.ToString("X") + "\n";
    QTUtils qtu = new QTUtils();
    errMsg += "QT Error code : " + qtu.QTErrorFromErrorCode(ex.ErrorCode).ToString();
    catch (Exception ex)
    // catch any exception
    errMsg = ex.ToString();
    if (errMsg != "")
    string msg = "Unable to create movie:\n\n";
    msg += errMsg;
    MessageBox.Show(msg, "Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error);
    }

    Open the activity window while the MP3 plays. You will see it (Xbytes of Ybytes incrementing higher). Double click on it. Winds up in your downloads folder and you probably have to rename it.
    You can often right click on embedded video and the save as source/as quicktime is there as well.
    You can set preferences to open Quicktime in a player vs. embedded (which is what I do) and then you can saveas in the player window.

  • I can't open number files with password protection?

    I am using OSX 10.9.4 with Numbers 3.2.2 (1878) and have one file which is password protected. While opening the file with Numbers, it prompts for the password after correct entry I receive the friendly message: "xxx" can't be opened.  That's it.
    Any solution out there?
    Thanks, Hansjoerg

    Your observation seems to be right because it was not the first time I recognized this effect. However, it is bitter to see that professional SW like Numbers can't hangle this option (password protection) correctly. It might have to do with the fact that the data file from Numbers is actually not a single file but a container with lost of files an subdirectories. Why the **** they make it so complex?
    Anyway, many thanks for your hint. I hope to find a tool which can correct those corrupted Number-files.
