OLD MX Records in AD integrated DNS

My DNS servers have old MX records referencing our old Exchange 2003 mail servers that are no longer present on our network.
Just want to confirm there is no issue deleting manually out of DNS. (I assume this is fine).
But also curious why the internel DNS would have MX records for Exchange 2003 servers...but Exchange 2010 servers have no mx records in DNS (our external name servers have the mx records).
Was this something with Exchange 2003?  and changed in 2010?
Thanks

Hi,
Great advice from Vindum.
Exchange, like other email servers on the market, will first look for an MX record, then fail back to an A record.  If the DNS server returns an authoritative result stating that there is no MX record, then it will look for an A record next. If an internal
MX record exists and/or it is incorrectly configured, your internal mail delivery may not work. More details about
Verifying DNS Design and Configuration, please refer to:

By the way, please pay a attention to basic mail flow:

Additional, I find a similar question about incorrect MX record, for your reference:

Hope this will helpful.

    Oh right of course just trying to get used to all the new  terms having come from Sonar ......what I really meant was the waveform is much easier to view   than the spectral view even though its the same thing even when expanded its very hard to see anything .  Anyway it seems to be a fairly difficult and  time consuming  exercise to be attempting so soon.  Not to worry I'll manage it  as it is  no big deal.

  • Standard Report required to delete Old Overtime Records

    Dear All,
    Good Morning to All.
    We are having a scenario , where we need to delete all the old overtime records from the Catsdb table.
    Its all having the status 20 ( released for approval ) and not yet approved.
    So is there any standard report which will give all the overtime records, for a particular employee for a specific period,  with status, so that we can check and confirm once and delete the unwanted records.
    Thanks in Advance.

  • Remove "Pop Noise" from an old vinyl record?

    Hi guys,
    How can I fix or let's say take out "pop noise" from an old vinyl record.
    I have this old song that I need to use which was on an old record.
    I saw a QT tutorial somewhere one time but can't remember where.
    Can anyone help me with this please.
    Many thanks in advance,
    ZIA

    Yes Zia this is a basic fundtion but it can be very frustrating if you try to do too much at one time.
    That's my advice, once you get into the Anaylsis(not Actions) portion select just the points where you find the pops manually, no more than a few minutes at a time or else your computer will spend all day trying to highlight all the problems, and believe me you don't want the fix that comes from letting it go through the entire audio in 24hrs.
    It's best to just try to fix section for section and listen to the results because sometimes the audio will come out sounding distorted and you have to go back and Edit>undo the fixes
    Good luck

  • Missing SOA record for AD integrated zone

    We are in the process of updating our Domain Controllers. We have 3 (now 2) Domain Controllers running server 2008 and 3 new Domain Controllers running Server 2012 R2. In DNS, we have 3 AD integrated zones. 1 of the zones is missing the SOA record on all
    3 new DCs.
    Before the record went missing, I first noticed an issue when attempting to demote one of the Server 2008 DCs.  I had received the following warning:
    "This Active Directory domain controller appears to be the last DNS server for the following Active Directory-integrated zones:
    zonename If you demote this domain controller, you may be unable to resolve any DNS names in these zones."
    I found a TechNet article with someone in the same boat, and the solution was basically to ignore the warning.
    Well I checked out the zone in question, and noticed that the SOA record on the 3 new DCs had an old version/serial number (25 on the new DCs, 126 on the old DCs).  This is a zone that rarely gets touched.  I did an increment serial number on one
    of the old DCs and they were then all showing version 127 for their SOA record, so the replication was working.  The other odd thing about the SOA record is that on the OLD DCs, the record pointed to themselves, like they should.  But on the new
    DCs, the SOA record pointed to other DCs, which they shouldn't be doing.  Well, whatever, I went ahead and completed demoting the 2008 DC I was working on.
    After demotion completed, I attempted to fix the messed up SOA record on the new DCs.  First I tried changing the replication scope from all DNS servers on DCs in the domain to all DCs (Win 2000 compatible).  This didn't do anything for the SOA
    record.  For my next attempt, I took one of the old DCs and removed the problem zone from AD, making it a standard primary zone.  Then I removed the AD-integrated version of the zone from another DC and waited for the zone removal to replicate.
    So now the only copy of the zone is a standard primary on 1 DC.  Then I switched the zone to AD integrated and waited for replication.  Sure enough the zone appeared on all DCs.  However, now on the 3 new DCs, the zone in question is now missing
    the SOA record entirely.  On the old DCs, the SOA record looks fine.  When I open the zone properties on one of the new DCs and select the SOA tab, it just says "The data is not available."
    So there we go.  3 DCs missing their SOA record for an AD integrated zone.  Any suggestions?

    Well I found the source of the problem.  The zone giving me trouble has a CNAME record that's the same name as the zone itself.  For example, for the zone testZone.local there is a CNAME record called testZone.local that points to www.testZone.local.
     That way if someone types testZone.local into their browser, they end up at www.testZone.local.  After some research, I discovered that CNAME records cannot share the same name as any other record.  In my example, the CNAME record has the same
    name as the SOA and NS records in the zone.  Although many DNS servers allow this practice, it is not a valid DNS configuration.
    While this setup worked fine in our Server 2008 environment, it definitely causes problems in Server 2012 R2.  Somewhere between those 2 versions, Microsoft changed their DNS implementation.  So to avoid any issues with our zone, we just need to
    configure it correctly!

  • Active Directory Integrated DNS Zones, replicate only to specific domain controllers

    I have a customer with a fairly large Active Directory forest with many domains that they are trying to consolidate into a single domain which likely take 18 to 24 months according to their timeline.  During this time, they would like all DNS zones
    to be serviced directly from the new domain controllers, meaning, domain A would have replicas of domain B, C, D, E, etc.  Because the environment is complex and some domain controllers in domains other than A are in a very sad state and replication problems
    abound, they would like to avoid replicating all zones forest wide.
    I've never done this before, or even considered it necessary, is it even possible?  I don't have a ton of time for trial and error, but based on this there seems to be some hope:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753801.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
    Is this telling me how to do what I want to do?
    Thanks

    He actually didn't specify much about dynamic updates requirements for old domains, if they don't need secure dynamic updates then a primary zone would work:
    The DNS Server service allows dynamic update to be enabled or disabled on a per-zone basis at each server that is configured to load
    either a standard primary or directory-integrated zone.

  • Allow a user to create/change records in 2008 R2 DNS

    Hi,
    We currently have a 2008 R2 domain with two AD servers running DNS. I want to grant permission to a regular user to be able to create/modify records on the DNS server for the primary domain (company.com).
    I have done some reading but everything keeps pointing to a zone delegation, which sounds overly complex and I am not sure it is what I want to do (I don't want a sub-domain).
    I think the DNSAdmins group will give them too much control over the server (change forwarders, etc..).
    I somehow managed to do this on a 2003 server DNS setup, but when I look at the security tabs for both the domain and the server, I cannot find any mention of the user who is able to create records, so I am not sure what I did to get this working.
    Can someone please clarify how I might be able to go about accomplishing this task.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Recording old vinyl records - Sound Card?

    I have an HP Pavilion P7-1054.  I want to record my old records.  I can hook up my turn-table to my amp.  I need to hook up my amp to my computer.  I can buy a mini-to-RCA adapter to hook my amp to my computer sound card.  The instructions say "verify your sound card can handle the line"  I don't see anything in the back of the computer that shows "sound card".   Where would I plug the cable into the computer?

  • Old transient recorder, new GPIB-card (+Labview) How?

    Hi, we have an old 12 channel 200kHz transient recorder
    (Krenz TRC 6410). Until now, the software is still MSDOS. Since we have a GPIB NI card, I wondered if we can't get this to work together, but I'm a complete newbie. I had a look at some other VI's for a Yokogawa Freq. generator, but the recorder's documentation looks
    quite different. Here's what I found out:
    1. Once I managed to find the device in MAX. It registered under PA 4, SA 0, like the manual said. But after some trials (which got me nowhere) and a reboot, the device won't show up anymore.
    2. In IBIC, when I use ibln 4 0, it says Listen: True,
    so this device is there.
    3. I would be very glad if I could somehow switch the Voltage selector remote!
    To do that I have to transmit two bytes, e.g. 129 and 4 (129 is adc-channel, 4 is new voltage level). But before the first byte, I have to send GET, and after the first byte, SDC.
    Help, I failed miserably so far :-)
    Any help is appreciated, e.g. ibic sequences, labview examples, whatever. I what to make sure that this works
    before investing to much work into it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dirk

    Hi Dirk,
    1. Please go to www.ni.com/support. Then celect GPIB and after that, select Interactive Control Utility. Here you will find a list of command sequences.
    I hope I have understood your problem.
    2.Regarding LabVIEW examples, please go to www.ni.com>>NI Developer ZONE>>Development LIbrary>>GPIB. There are a lot of examples. And I hope this will help you.
    P.S:
    I could not understand what do you mean by trials. Because how can the trials prevent the device from showing up.
    In IBIC where you did ibln, also try ibwrt and ibrd and see if it works.
    Please do get back if you have any further questions.
    Sincerely,
    Sastry V

  • :new and :old into record into record variable

    Hi,
    Can anyone tell me whether it is possible in 11g to copy the :new and :old records straight into record variables without having to explicitly copy every column?
    I would prefer to write this:
      create or replace trigger app1_tab1_biudr
      before insert or update or delete
      on table_1
      as
      declare
        r_tab1_old table_1%rowtype;
        r_tab1_new table_1%rowtype;
      begin
         r_tab1_new := :new;
         r_tab1_old := :old;
      end app1_tab1_biudr;instead of this
      create or replace trigger app1_tab1_biudr
      before insert or update or delete
      on table_1
      as
      declare
        r_tab1_old table_1%rowtype;
        r_tab1_new table_1%rowtype;
      begin
         r_tab1_new.col1 := :new.col1;
         r_tab1_new.col2 := :new.col2;
         r_tab1_new.col3 := :new.col3;
         -- ... etc.
         r_tab1_old.col1 := :old.col1;
         r_tab1_old.col2 := :old.col2;
         r_tab1_old.col3 := :old.col3;
         -- ... etc.
      end app1_tab1_biudr;Why? This is nonsense example, of course, but when we apply this to our table API's, it would make a big difference in the length and maintainability of the code.
    Thanks!

  • Identifying old internal record id after merge operation

    Hi,
    Since a merge record operation creates a new record, with a new internal record id, is there a way to find the the old record id's that were merged into the new record?  It would be ideal for us to have a method through the Java API's.
    This is also particularly necessary for us to track change tracking through every merge.  Is there a way to track change tracking for a record through all merges?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    MDM provides Change Tracking functionality where you can track the changes like Record Addition, Modification and deletion. In case of Record Merging, it first delete the individual records to be merged and creats a new merged record. Hence you will find three entries in the Change Tracking if 2 records are involved in Merging process (depending on number of fields on which Change Tracking has been enabled).
    You can view the Changes at database level by Quering the A2i_CM_History table.
    Change Tracking in MDM
    You can also make the Change Tracking UI available in the Web tab of MDM Data Manager
