Old/new ipad

I currently have a 16GB iPad Air.  I am giving it away, and am buying a new iPad Air with more storage.  My question is, what steps do I need to take to:
1) transfer/back up content that is on my current iPad, to my Mac
and
2) transfer the content that was on my old iPad, and is now on my laptop, onto my new iPad

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5661
has some helpful tips
Generally, plug your old one in and back it up. Then disconnect and hook up your new one. when you set up your new iPad, you'll go through the activation process, then when you see the choice to 'set up as new or restore from the backup of....' choose to restore and your new one will be a near clone of your first one.
Once you're sure everything has transferred across (you'll need to re-sign into websites, enter your wifi password, etc but the data will be there) then you can follow the instructions in the article to disconnect your old one from your Apple ID and wipe it to then dispose of it as you wish.

  • How do I set up an Apple ID for my 8 year olds new iPad Mini?

My 8 year old daughter got a brand new iPad Mini for Christmas and I'm trying to set it up for her to use. I keep getting a notification saying that I nee to create a Family Sharing Group from another device that has iOS 8 or later... my device is iOS 7 and am not getting an option in my iCloud setting to create a Family Sharing Group. I'm not sure what I can do since I can't make an apple ID for my daughter on her iPad mini getting started and setting it up for use...

As stated in the message your received (as you mentioned above), you need to use iOS 8 to setup/use Family Sharing. If you are using iOS 7, you cannot setup/use Family Sharing. To setup/use Family Sharing, you must update your devices to iOS 8.

  • Simpsons Tapped out Game Old/New iPad

Simpsons Tapped out Game is on our old iPad which was under my husbands Apple ID. Well we just got him a new iPad mini and I was wondering if I could just restore to original settings to get his information off the old iPad and enter my apple id and still be able to download the Simpsons and play where I left off? Thanks thats the only thing I have put time into and it'll suck to have to start over lol

Do you have your email registered with origin or just his appleid.
Origin store game data on their servers, so if you have your own login, you can download the game from your new AppleID and then login with your email and it will restore your game data, If it is under his ID, You will probably need to start over. Their support is excellent, http://help.ea.com/en/origin/origin/

  • Any idea why a 3 month old new IPad won't turn on?  It has been charged today and was working perfectly last night while I used it to read a book.  I have tried both the sleep/wake button and the on/off button on the front.  Nothing is happening.

    1. Hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home button down together
    2. For 10 to 15 seconds
    3. Until you see the Apple logo
    4. Ignore the red slider
Note: Repeat it if it doesn't work the first time

  • TS3274 New IPAD Power plug gets hot

I have a one week old new IPAD.
The power plug that comes with the IPAD gets very hot upon charging (the bulk portion that gets into wall socket). I had IPAD2 and never faced this issue?
Should I take it to an Apple Shop for replacement?

Mine gets warmer than the power adapter on my original iPad, but .... It does not get "Very Hot". I would take it back to Apple and show them, and ask for a replacement, it should not get that hot.

  • I just bought you and a new Ipad 1 weeks I'm sorry

I just bought a Ipad 1 week, you introduced a new!
    I am very sad, very depressed, I bought a $629 16G +3 G,
how do you think I should do?

If you bought it from Apple - Apple announced that many individual Apple stores are exchanging the old 'new' ipad for an ipad 4 if you bought it within the past thirty days. Check cnet.com and other media who have reported this. If you bought in at aaaaApple or through their on-line store, you should not have a problem. Otherwise, you'll have to deal with the reseller you bought it from.
    ACT FAST! Hope this helps.

  • TS3899 Cannot send email with new iPad air.  Works fine with old iPad and iPhone.

Cannot send email with new iPad air.  Works fine with old iPad and iPhone.  I have deleted account and reinstalled.

Thanks.  I got the problem fixed.  Spent time with the Apple folks and was kicked up to a senior advisor.  It seems the problem was with my internet provider - Tmie Warner.  Remember I could use the old ipad and the iphone to send mail.  I checked all the specifics between the three units.  It seems that TW is changing over from the RR.com  to TWC.com.  Since the new ipad air was just set up, it fell under the new TWC mail specifics.

  • How can I restore an app and its data from an old ipad to a new ipad without restoring from backup?

When I purachsed and iPad 2 to replace my old iPad I did not want to restore it from backup for obvious reasons.  However, there are apps that have data stored in them that I have lost the data for, what can I do to get the app and data back on the new iPad without losing the data that was already in the app?

The reasons may be obvious to you, but it makes no sense to me. I would think that you would want all of the content that you had transfered onto your new iPad.
However, there are apps that have data stored in them that I have lost the data for, what can I do to get the app and data back on the new iPad without losing the data that was already in the app?
If you lost the data in the apps, you can't get it back unless you restore from a backup - assuming that the backup DID have that data in the apps..
The only way that you can get the apps PLUS the app data onto the new iPad is to restore the new iPad from a backup of the original iPad and sync the apps back onto the new iPad if necessary.

I have purchased a new iPad and given my old one to my husband.  How do I change the Apple ID over to him.  We are having continuous confusion between the two iPads

    Hi Marg42,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
First, your husband can create his own Apple ID via the web, computer, or iPad, if he hasn't already:

Next, he can sign out of the Apple services that are currently using your Apple ID on your old iPad, and sign in with his own.
This article has instructions for doing so for specific Apple services:

Alternately, he can erase the device and set it up as new using the steps in this article:

  • How can I tansfer data from old ipad to new ipad

My daughter is taking my iPad 2 with her out of the country and wants to wipe it and start clean.  I have a new iPad coming but it may not be here before she leaves.  Can I put a backup of my current iPad on the new one?  How do I go about that?
    Thanks for your help.
    Paula

Many thanks to you all.  I do currently have my iPad on iCloud but signing in to it is not as easy as they'd like us to think.  I couldn't even get into these discussion groups from my iPad because Apple insisted I had to make a new user name.  When I did that just to satisfy them, tho I"ve had this one for years, it then told me my login address already had a user name associated with it and I could not create a new one.  But, it would not let me in without creating a new user name.  Vicious circle.  I signed in from my desk Mac because it isn't on iCloud and no problem with my old sign in.
Anyway, I will restore from back up.  I appreciate the help from all of you.

  • How to transfer iBooks books & PDFs from old iPad to new iPad?

(Well, it seems my title got truncated; originally it read: How to transfer iBooks books & PDFs from old iPad to new iPad?)
I've recently gotten an iPad Air to replace my previous iPad 2. I have a bunch of books and PDFs in iBooks on the old iPad, and want to transfer them to the new iPad.
A search of Apple Support informs me that anything I've purchased from iBooks can be downloaded at any time to any of my devices (works like Amazon's Kindle system, apparently), but nearly all the content I have in iBooks on the iPad I've downloaded from other sources, so it won't be in my iBooks Store account (I might have bought one book there).
I've also seen several instructions on how to copy all my data from the old iPad to the new via Backup & Restore, but that seems to require restoring the new iPad to factory setup, which would delete everything I have on it now – including a bunch more books I've gotten since I started using the new iPad. And I don't want to copy everything, only the books/PDFs (the new iPad has everything I want, except for the books).
Since there seems to be no way to transfer files directly from one iPad to the other, it seems it must be done via iTunes on my MacBook Pro (and I want to copy all the books/PDFs to the computer anyway). So I connected the iPad 2 to my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.9.4) and opened iTunes (11.3.1). Then clicked on the iPad's name in the sidebar to the left, and on Books below it. I see a list of the books on the iPad. I check the little boxes by all their names to select them (not sure if that's necessary, but it seems like a good idea), then click on the Sync button at the lower right, to the right of the bar at the bottom of the window with colored bands showing memory usage on the iPad. A message appears saying "The app 'iBooks' was not installed on the iPad '[name]' because the app could not be found."
But iBooks is already on the iPad; I have it open and see the list of books in it, which matches the list shown in iTunes. The message has a "More Information" button; I click that and it opens an Apple Support article titled "iOS: An app you installed unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open": "Learn what to do if you see one of these issues with an app you downloaded from the App Store on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: The app unexpectedly quits; The app stops responding; You can’t open the app." But none of these apply; the iBooks app is on the iPad, and works fine there.
The article suggests: (1) Restart the App. I've done that, no help. (2) Restart your device. Done that, no help. (3) Update your device software and your apps. The iPad is running iOS 6.1.3, iBooks 3.1.3; not the latest versions, no, but I'd rather not update it to newer, bigger, more power-hungry versions if I don't have to. Is it that iTunes 11 doesn't work with iOS 6? I haven't seen this stated anywhere.
So instead I click the OK button on the message, but nothing further happens, so far as I can tell: None of the books/PDFs on the iPad (about 380MB) appear in iBooks on the MacBook Pro.
I click on "Books" in the row of words across the top of the iTunes window, and it shows me the single PDF presently in iBooks on the MacBook Pro. I click the box by "Sync Books", and a message appears: "Are you sure you want to remove existing music, movies, TV shows, books, and tones from this iPad and sync with this iTunes library?" Well, no, that's exactly what I DON'T want to do. I don't want to erase the 380MB of books and PDFs on the iPad and replace them with the single PDF now in iBooks on the MacBook Pro. I want to copy the books from the iPad 2 to iTunes, so I can copy them back to the new iPad Air (if, God willing, I can figure out how to do that without erasing the books now on the iPad Air).
I've been working with Macintosh computers for over 26 years. It's always been a fairly simple process to copy files from one computer to another. I don't want to "sync" all the data (address book, email, God knows what else) on the iPad with the corresponding information on the MacBook Pro – especially if that will erase everything on the iPad (which has information not on the MacBook Pro, e.g. 380MB of books). I just want to copy the books and PDFs in iBooks from the old iPad to the MacBook Pro, then to the new iPad, adding them to the books on the new iPad, so I don't lose anything.
Can anybody give me a clue?

Transferring your prepaid cellular data account depends on your carrier. AT&T lets you move it yourself when you go to Cellular Data in Settings and log into your account with your previous AT&T user name and password. For iPads with Sprint service, you can set up an account on the new iPad and contact Sprint Customer Care (888-211-4727 and go through the menus) to deactivate the old plan and get credit for unused service. For Verizon, call the company’s customer service number for mobile broadband support (800-786-8419) and ask to have your account transferred.

  • How do I transfer my purchased apps from my old ipad to my new ipad?  All with the same Apple ID and Itunes account.

I just purchased a new Ipad with 4G yesterday and I am trying to transfer my purchased apps from my old Ipad to the new one.  We have one Apple ID and one Itunes account that we are using.

Connect the old iPad to your computer, launch iTunes and then sync the iPad. A backup will be created when you sync the iPad and your purchased apps should transfer into your iTunes library on the computer. Just to be safe - manually transfer the purchases as well.
After the sync completes - right click on the iPad name on the left side under "Devices" and select - Transfer Purchases. Let the process complete - and just because I am OCD - I would sync one last time. Eject the iPad and quit iTunes.
Then connect your new iPad to the computer and launch iTunes again. You will be given the opportunity to set up as new or to restore from the backup of the old iPad. Choose backup from the iPad - let the process complete - and then follow that with a sync with iTunes to put all of the content that was on the old iPad onto the new one.
