Old PC crashed - Will new PC delete songs if I sync?

My old PC crashed and I bought a new one. My iTunes file says my iPod is in use under a different folder. It has brought back up all of my purchases, so I am safe there if I sync. However, I have a ton of music from CD that it won't bring back up and my backup is missing about 50% of it for some reason. My question is, can I sync and the music that is already on my iPod will show in my library again... Or if I sync will it delete what isn't currently showing in my new library? I really don't want to spend the hours downloading my CD's all over again if I can avoid it.

The same thing has happened to me and I cannot get any of my information that was in my itunes previously since we had to erase the whole computer. Is there no known way to NOT erase every freaking song off my ipod!? I borrowed alot of peoples CDs to get all the songs I have now and cannot get them all back and do not feel I should have to buy them because Ipod wont let you put your songs into a blank itunes!! please help!

I would recommend you use a program called senuti that allows you to copy your songs over to a new computer from an iPod. Unfortunatlly you have to pay for the full version but it allows you to have 1000 free song capacity of copying over and a movie counts as the capacity of 1 song.

  • Old computer crashed, have new computer, how to tranfer.  Already have files on new computer, but wont show up in iTunes

I guess my title is too long, sorry.  Old computer crashed, have new computer, already tranfered songs to new computer, but can't get them to show up in ITunes.  I have 2007 version of IPod, only a few songs on, and won't even transfer those.

Finally figured it out.  Just had to store all my songs/ folders in the iTunes folder.  My old computer folder set up threw me off, had duplicate folders of songs that messed everything up when copied over.
Thanks for your help though, appreciate it.

  • Can anyone point me in the right direction for the link to download Acrobat 9 Standard?  I found the link to download 9 Pro but not standard.  Old computer crashed and new computer does not have a CDR/DVD rom drive.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for the link to download Acrobat 9 Standard.  I found the link to download 9 Pro but not standard.  Old computer crashed and new computer does not have a CDR/DVD rom drive.

    Hi,
Standard or Pro would be licensed through your serial number, the download link and downloaded file would be the same for both of them.
Pro or Standard would be determined after you put in your serial number.
    Download Acrobat products | 9, 8

  • Old Computer Crashed - Got New One;  What to do about music?

My old computer crashed and we purchased a new one (the old system was XP and the new is VISTA), can I install my music from my IPOD on my new computer by using a FLASH drive? I was told that I could but am not sure of the steps? Could someone please advise?

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iRepo Mac and Windows
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
One final thing, if your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes 7.3 Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that way you can continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed above your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever retrieval method you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Windows XP Crashed - will I keep my songs?

I hope you can help. Our Windows XP crashed and it was reinstalled by the computer doctor. If I re-load ITunes and plug in my IPOD, will all of my songs come back or have I lost everything?

The content won't be transferred automatically, but you won't lose them if you're careful. Check out this post from Zevoneer for some iPod media recovery options:

This is why it's strongly recommended, even by iTunes itself, that you make backups of your content, in case of just such problems like this. I highly encourage you to make a backup of your iTunes library once you get everything transferred back from your iPod. If you have an external hard drive, backing up is easy. An iPod is not a reliable backup.
    Regards.

  • Hi, I have a 7th Gen Ipod Nano and I am unable to delete songs. When synced on the PC I can select tracks but right clicking on them does not give the ability to delete. I have downloaded the latest 1.0.3 software but it did not help.

Hi,  I have a 7th gen ipod nano and am having a problem with deleting songs. I can select the track in my ipod's library but right clicking does not bring up the option to delet. I have downloaded the latest update for the ipod but this has not solved the issue. Can anyone suggest a remedy? thanks

    Hello Lor100,
In order to delete or add individual songs from and to your iPod, you'll need to enable 'manual mode' on the device. This will allow you to add and remove exactly the content you desire.

  • HT1386 I want to give me old iphone 4 to my daughter and need to get all her info from her old iphone onto a new computer.  The PC she synced with is dead and she does not want to loose all her contacts and music.

I want to give my old iphone 4 to my daughter and need to get all her info from her old iphone 3 onto a new computer.  The PC she synced with is dead and she does not want to loose all her contacts and music. How can I do this?

To effectively transfer ownership of the iPhone requires that it be "restored" as a new device.
...  The PC she synced with is dead
The iPhone is not a backup device. Your computer backs up the iPhone, not the other way around. What you use to back up your computer is up to you - Macs use Time Machine. I assume PCs use something similar.
If her PC backup is dead you will have difficulty extracting content from the iPhone since it is not designed to work that way.
All her Apple purchases can easily be transferred to another iPhone. However, her contacts will be gone, as will any music or other contact obtained from sources other than Apple.
There are a number of third party utilities that claim to be able to extract content from an iPhone. See wjosten's procedure here:

  • How do i get my itunes from my old computer to my new computer so that I can sync my iphone

    1. I had my iphone 4 synced with my old computer.
I have a new computer and want my iphone to sync with this computer.
I am not interested in any music syncing
I do not want to overwrite anything on my iphone
I want the information eg apps that appear when I sync on my old computer to work exactly the same on the new computer.
I do not want a new library.
    2.  I have tried to backup my phone on my old computer and i receive the message."iTunes could not back up the iPhone "Bronwyn's iphone" because the backup could not be saved on the computer."
To try to resolve this I have removed most photos, I am unable to remove one
I have transferred all audio recordings
I have over 200gb of space on the computer.
    3. At one time I received the following  messge  The information on the iPhone 'Bronwyn's iPhone is synced with another user account. Do you want to sync this iPhone with the information from this user account instead?
Merge info - merges the information on this iPhone with the information from this user account.
"Replace Info" replaced theinformation on this iPhone with the information from this user account.
         Then the clickable choices .
    This box has not reappeared.
    3. I am absolutely fed up trying to find a solution.
This should not be this difficult.
I welcome any and all help
but I do ask please provide simply easy to follow steps.
    May thanks
    Bronwyn

You should copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

  • Old computer crashed can i get my songs on the new one with out buying them

my old computer's mother board went out and it wont turn on now, so i was wondering if there is anyway to get my old itunes songs on the new computer with out having to buy them all over i havn't tryed anything yet so i was just wondering if anyone had any answers. thanks

If the motherboard crashed, the hard drive might still be OK. You can put the hard drive in an external USB hard drive enclosure for about $25. ll your music should still be on it!

See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different ways to copy content from your iPod back to your PC.  Next time, be sure to maintain a backup of either your iTunes library or your entire system.
