Old Photoshop 5.5

Hi, I'm an old Photoshop 5.5 user, this is fine for my purposes, home use and I now cannot afford the expense of an upgrade as back then the original purchase cost me an awful lot of money. My 5.0 and upgrade 5.5 disks will not load on new laptop Windows 7. The option within Win7 of saying software worked on old Windows failed miserably to resolve setup issue.  Am I condemned to MS products for designing or can anyone suggest how I can unlock my lovely 5.5.  I still have my serial number.  Thanks, Maggie

Hi again Maggie,
For what it's worth, I have a 5 year old  Dell desktop with XP Home Edition
(and service pack -3)   that runs Photoshop 6.0 just fine.  I was skeptical
that it would work when I put it on then, but with the original disc and
serial number, all has been fine with the software ever since.  If you ever
get a chance to obtain a similar  old machine for nothing, you might try it
on that.  I don't know what 650 pounds is, but mine ran about $600 American
dollars about 10 years ago.  I'm a tile artist and must have this tool to
handle my photo gallery.
Since I left the message yesterday, I think I resolved the noisy CPU  fan
problem which was causing me to consider a new machine big time.  While
trying to resolve my problem yesterday,  I read in a forum  from Russia that
alittle sewing  machine oil in the fan cylinder would correct the problem. I
was hesitant to take the machine apart, as I am not a "tech type" person,
but it was either that or pitch it out the window      The oil trick was
like a miracle!  No more loud processor.  I can't even tell that the
computer is on!  So I may go another couple years with my beloved Photoshop
6.0 and be grateful!
Thank you for getting back to my message  and good luck to you too - I'm
wondering what city you are from ?
Regards from San Diego California.

If you still have your serial number, look at OLDER previous versions http://www.adobe.com/downloads/other-downloads.html
Otherwise, the US$ 9.99 plan is what is current at Cloud Plans https://creative.adobe.com/plans

  • After Migration to new iMac, old Photoshop won't launch

I used the Migration Assistant in Firewire Target Disk Mode to transfer my old Apps and files and folders from my intel Macbook to my new 24" iMac. I had to do it several times since it transferred Applications okay, and all the folders, but the folders were empty on the new machine. I finally had to drag and drop the contents of most folders. Everything seems to be working okay now except for one glaring failure. My old Photoshop 7.0.1, which was working just fine in Rosetta on the Macbook, no longer works at all. It will not even launch. I get an error message that due to an "unrecoverable error" in programming, Photoshop will close now, almost as soon as it tries to start. I have a number of other Power PC applications (even Adobe ones) of similar vintage that are working just fine. I tried reinstalling the Application entirely (still have all my old Apps!), but it had no effect on the failure to launch. I checked with Adobe and they declined to support such an old version. Any ideas on what could be causing this that I might check? Having blown all my money on the new iMac I really cannot afford to purchase a new Photoshop right now.

Photoshop 7 is not compatible with Mac OS 10.5 and Adobe offers no fix. You'll need to upgrade.

Can anyone tell me how I keep everything I had in my old photoshop, now I've updated to Photoshop CC 2014.  It did give me the option to transport over all my presets, but because I didn't have internet access at the time, it couldn't do it.  Now I'm not getting the option.  Please help.

Migrating Presets does not require a network connection and you can still migrate your cc presets if you still have CC installed.  Use Photoshop menu Edit>Presets>Migrate Presets...  Migrating presets only migrates presets.  It does not migrate Plugins, settings, extensions and scripts.  CC 2014 is also not completely backwards compatible with CC.  Support for Flash Panels and Oil Painter filter have been removed.  So extensions like mini bridge no longer work in CC 2014

  • Old Photoshop version download (Photoshop CS, Photoshop 8.0)

    Hello to everyone,
i work for a small editorial company, i found out that we have some old Photoshop CS (Photoshop 8.0) licences and i want to use one of them, but the installation cds are missing.
Is there a place where i can download the installation file? I tried on the ftp server but i cant find my version, only more recent ones.
    Thanks in advice.

If I understand correctly, a license for Photoshop CS should entitle you to use CS2.

  • Installing old Photoshop Elements on a new computer

I have an old version of Photoshop Elements and a new MAC. It was previously installed on my PC which crashed. But the new MAC won't let me install this software - it tells me there is an error with the install.

OK... so this is an OLD version - it is 4.0 (2006). My MAC is running OS X Version 10.8.2. The installation begins and some of the files begin installing then it quits and the message reads: "The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
    Thanks

What is the exact error message which you receive?  Also what version of Photoshop Elements are you trying to install?  Finally what version of Mac OS are you using?

  • I get an error message saying 'An error has caused Photoshop to stop working correctly. Windows will close the programme and notify you if a solution is available'. I have had no notification. My old Photoshop CS5 works fine, but as I'm paying for CC2014

I get an error message saying 'An error has caused Photoshop to stop working correctly. Windows will close the programme and notify you if a solution is available'. I have had no notification. My old Photoshop CS5 works fine, but as I'm paying for CC2014 I would like to use it. I have tried renaming the 'sniffer' file to 'snifferold' as bobmiller4002 suggested but the problem is not resolved. Lightroom works fine.

    Hi Nancy,
I'm not sure I have the answers to all your questions. Although I use Photoshop and Lightroom extensively, I'm not a 'techy'.
    My system;
    Packard bell imedia S2885
    1TB hard drive
    500G RAM
    Windows 8.1   64- bit
    Intel core i5 4440
If I open Photoshop cc14 without opening any image, I still get an error message that reads: 'Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver, and has temporarily disabled enhancements which use the graphics hardware'.
There is also a link to the Adobe help site, but I'm not sure exactly what I should be downloading from there.
             Thanks,
                        Dan.

  • I have a new mac and want my old photoshop on it , how get i the old serial key for the new ?

I have a new mac and want my old photoshop on it , how get i the old serial key for the new ? My old mac is deleted ...

We would need to know the version of Mac OS you are running and the version of Photoshop you want to install.
The serial number is the tricky part. If you have no idea where you placed it and did not register your product with Adobe, your chances are very low of retrieving it.

  • OLD PHOTOSHOP 4.0 and 6.0 install in Windows 8.1

I have an OLD PHOTOSHOP 4.0 CD and a PHOTOSHOP 6.0 UPGRADE CD.
    I am running Windows 8.1
I had no problem in Windows 7 installing the 4.0 CD - then the UPGRADE 6.0 over that.
But Windows 8.1 would not allow an install of PHOTOSHOP 4.0 but probably would accept a full PHOTOSHOP 6.0 install...... but I only have the 6.0 UPGRADE.
    So I have a Catch 22.
If I try to install the 6.0 UPGRADE CD first it wants to look through my HDD for the 4.0 install first.
But - it isn't there cause it wouldn't install on Windows 8.1.
    WHAT TO DO ???????

You should not need to have 4.0 installed, you should only need the serial number from it to confirm the upgrade installation of CS6.  When you are activating CS6 it should provide the option of specifying the serial number for 4.0 when it is unable to find a qualifying version on the machine.

  • How do I activate an old Photoshop CS that's no longer supported

I have an old version of the Adobe CS (first generation) that's no longer supported by Adobe. I'm still using it on a desktop. But I just bought a new computer today and wanted to install this over to the new desktop. It prompts me to register that product but that link doesn't work anymore. I asked Adobe through the Chat line and was told they don't support this old serial number anymore. How do I activate an old Photoshop CS that's no longer supported? Anyone?

Thanks. I installed Photoshop CS2 and ran the program. It prompts to me Register. After I did, it tells me Registration is Complete. But when I close the program and reopen it again, it prompts me again! If I click Do Not Register, the box disappears but then reappears again when I reopen the software!  It's quick annoying. But I guess if there's no way around it, I may have to live with it!
I should start saving up for the next CS version....

Before installing new activation-free version of CS2, during uninstall of old Photoshop, should I keep or remove preferences and should I use standard or advanced uninstall?

Thank you very much for that info.
Also, I believe I will need to choose the Advanced uninstall option because the Standard uninstall states it will keep activation data.  As I will need to use the new activation number, I think Advanced is the more thorough way to go.
    Thanks again.
