Old Photoshop FIlter's Question

I have several old plugins (8bf files) that I'm attempting to use with Photoshop CC.  I read that they needed to be in the 32bit plugins folder and that they would not show up at all in the 64bit, so I made sure that  was where I put them  However, when I launch Photoshop (either version) the plugin's don't show up.  Am I missing something?  I've gone through every menu and couldn't find anything that suggested a way to import them or even to point to a directory for them.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Unable to fathom why this hasn't been answered, I only came across it in looking for information on a .8bf filter set that I have installed for a few years and working which suddenly inexplicably fails to work crashing 32bit PS CC - note it is the same install I used in PS CS5 Extended. In fact, I uninstalled (removed completely) the filter now failing to work, shut down (cold start), booted up and checked the filter no longer appeared in 32bit PS CC, after ensuring it wasn't I shut the program and extracted the files from the zipped copy I have directly to the same folder location as before which was empty, opened 32bit PS CC again and it showed, attempts to use it once more failed with the same error as before. You should note though PS CS5 Extended uses the same file and I attempted to use it there after the latest failure, it functioned with no error.
Anyhow, your answer is here -
I made a folder on C Drive itself, (not in Program Files or 32 bit Program Files) I named the folder Plugins, inside it I put sub folders for every filter I install and install directly to them, I often leave a copy of the zip or extraction file (.exe) inside as well as its set up files or .8bf's. - You then have something akin to this ...... C:\Plugins\screen .... C:\Plugins\Redfield ..... C:\Plugins\MasterBlaster .... etc.
Set PS to locate this folder as an Additional Plug-Ins Folder location under "Edit .... Preferences ... Plug-Ins" inside PS itself, choosing this folder " C:\Plugins\ " using browse button if following my own example, select your own folder if you altered the location.
Note - Photoshop only offers one additional location for Plugins/Filters (other programs offer more).
The Advantages -
You can uninstall Photoshop and your plugins/filters remain installed (Takes time if you have many to install) Reinstall Photoshop and set the location again and your filters work.
You can access the filters using another program for graphics

Does anyone know of a PhotoShop filter which converts a photo into a technical drawing?

There are ways of creating line art from a photograph.  My preferred tool for doing that is the Topaz Simplify plugin.  This is an example from their website

Can anyone tell me how I keep everything I had in my old photoshop, now I've updated to Photoshop CC 2014.  It did give me the option to transport over all my presets, but because I didn't have internet access at the time, it couldn't do it.  Now I'm not getting the option.  Please help.

Migrating Presets does not require a network connection and you can still migrate your cc presets if you still have CC installed.  Use Photoshop menu Edit>Presets>Migrate Presets...  Migrating presets only migrates presets.  It does not migrate Plugins, settings, extensions and scripts.  CC 2014 is also not completely backwards compatible with CC.  Support for Flash Panels and Oil Painter filter have been removed.  So extensions like mini bridge no longer work in CC 2014

I get an error message saying 'An error has caused Photoshop to stop working correctly. Windows will close the programme and notify you if a solution is available'. I have had no notification. My old Photoshop CS5 works fine, but as I'm paying for CC2014 I would like to use it. I have tried renaming the 'sniffer' file to 'snifferold' as bobmiller4002 suggested but the problem is not resolved. Lightroom works fine.

    Hi Nancy,
I'm not sure I have the answers to all your questions. Although I use Photoshop and Lightroom extensively, I'm not a 'techy'.
    My system;
    Packard bell imedia S2885
    1TB hard drive
    500G RAM
    Windows 8.1   64- bit
    Intel core i5 4440
If I open Photoshop cc14 without opening any image, I still get an error message that reads: 'Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver, and has temporarily disabled enhancements which use the graphics hardware'.
There is also a link to the Adobe help site, but I'm not sure exactly what I should be downloading from there.
             Thanks,
                        Dan.

Peter Lindgren do you receive any specific error messages when you attempt to install Photoshop 7 or Photoshop Elements?  What version of Photoshop Elements are you installing?

  • Old photoshop - how to register

Sorry, I do not understand your question.  What is your operating system?  Do you face any problems during the installation?

  • I need "plain old Photoshop"

I am really getting frustrated with Adobe's site.  This is the 5th time I have tried to enter this question only to be sent to another form!  (rant off)
Look, I am trying to buy a version of "plain old Photoshop".  I'm not interested in a Creative Cloud nor monthly recurring charges.  It used to be possible to pay large bucks and get a copy of Photoshop to run on your computer.  Is this no longer available?  I use a macBook Pro Retina, OS X Yosemite.

The reason it is hard to find is that it is not the latest version. They would prefer that you buy the newest version.
The photography version can be purchased annually. The cloud version is just a name. The programs are installed on your computer and do not run from the net.
All data files are also stored on your computer. The reason it is call cloud is that cloud storage is included. It is up to you if you want to store anything on it.
It does make it easier to find out if there are any new programs or updates available to you, which are installed or updated, when you choose to do so, if at all.

If you still have your serial number, look at OLDER previous versions http://www.adobe.com/downloads/other-downloads.html

  • After Migration to new iMac, old Photoshop won't launch

I used the Migration Assistant in Firewire Target Disk Mode to transfer my old Apps and files and folders from my intel Macbook to my new 24" iMac. I had to do it several times since it transferred Applications okay, and all the folders, but the folders were empty on the new machine. I finally had to drag and drop the contents of most folders. Everything seems to be working okay now except for one glaring failure. My old Photoshop 7.0.1, which was working just fine in Rosetta on the Macbook, no longer works at all. It will not even launch. I get an error message that due to an "unrecoverable error" in programming, Photoshop will close now, almost as soon as it tries to start. I have a number of other Power PC applications (even Adobe ones) of similar vintage that are working just fine. I tried reinstalling the Application entirely (still have all my old Apps!), but it had no effect on the failure to launch. I checked with Adobe and they declined to support such an old version. Any ideas on what could be causing this that I might check? Having blown all my money on the new iMac I really cannot afford to purchase a new Photoshop right now.

Photoshop 7 is not compatible with Mac OS 10.5 and Adobe offers no fix. You'll need to upgrade.

  • Old Photoshop version download (Photoshop CS, Photoshop 8.0)

    Hello to everyone,
i work for a small editorial company, i found out that we have some old Photoshop CS (Photoshop 8.0) licences and i want to use one of them, but the installation cds are missing.
Is there a place where i can download the installation file? I tried on the ftp server but i cant find my version, only more recent ones.
    Thanks in advice.

If I understand correctly, a license for Photoshop CS should entitle you to use CS2.

  • Installing old Photoshop Elements on a new computer

I have an old version of Photoshop Elements and a new MAC. It was previously installed on my PC which crashed. But the new MAC won't let me install this software - it tells me there is an error with the install.

OK... so this is an OLD version - it is 4.0 (2006). My MAC is running OS X Version 10.8.2. The installation begins and some of the files begin installing then it quits and the message reads: "The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
    Thanks

  • I have a new mac and want my old photoshop on it , how get i the old serial key for the new ?

I have a new mac and want my old photoshop on it , how get i the old serial key for the new ? My old mac is deleted ...

We would need to know the version of Mac OS you are running and the version of Photoshop you want to install.
The serial number is the tricky part. If you have no idea where you placed it and did not register your product with Adobe, your chances are very low of retrieving it.

  • OLD PHOTOSHOP 4.0 and 6.0 install in Windows 8.1

I have an OLD PHOTOSHOP 4.0 CD and a PHOTOSHOP 6.0 UPGRADE CD.
    I am running Windows 8.1
I had no problem in Windows 7 installing the 4.0 CD - then the UPGRADE 6.0 over that.
But Windows 8.1 would not allow an install of PHOTOSHOP 4.0 but probably would accept a full PHOTOSHOP 6.0 install...... but I only have the 6.0 UPGRADE.
    So I have a Catch 22.
If I try to install the 6.0 UPGRADE CD first it wants to look through my HDD for the 4.0 install first.
But - it isn't there cause it wouldn't install on Windows 8.1.
    WHAT TO DO ???????

You should not need to have 4.0 installed, you should only need the serial number from it to confirm the upgrade installation of CS6.  When you are activating CS6 it should provide the option of specifying the serial number for 4.0 when it is unable to find a qualifying version on the machine.
