Old podcast episode stuck on my nano ipod

I have a problem with my nano ipod, I have a second generation and it has a old podcast episode that won't go away.I download it on another computer and when I updated it on another computer, the episode is still their.I've tried deleting it and found out that the site that I got the episode from, had their podcast taken down.Is their any way that I can remove this episode?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.
The exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases

  • Cannot delete old podcast episodes after updating to ios 8

The usual way of manually deleting old podcast episodes, swiping right to left and then selecting the red delete button, appears to be no longer available. Do I need to fix something or is there a new way of doing this function?

Have you tried swiping left to right?
Try going to Settings>General>Usage>Podcasts  and select the the podcast you want to delete and tap edit in in upper left and delete the podcast.

  • Front Row still displays deleted old podcast episode

I have subscribes to ScreenCastsOnline podcast, and one of the episodes was an audio update. It is only since I checked in iTunes today that I have found I don't actually have that episode in iTunes anymore, and it is definately not in the Podcasts folder within the iTunes folder. Yet Front Row is saying I still have it, and it has a blue ball next to it to say it hasn't been played. If I try to play it, Front Row tells me it can't be played (obviously because the file is no longer there).
I have tried unsubscribing to ScreenCastsOnline and making sure there is no trace of it in the iTunes folder, and yet the one episode is STILL listed on Front Row!!
    How can I remove it?

    Update:
Firstly, there are actually TWO old podcast episodes total that are not on my Mac anymore but are listed on Front Row. I removed any trace of all Podcasts in iTunes and the podcast folder disappeared in the iTunes Music library folder, yet two podcasts remained in FR.
Secondly, I opened the iTunes Music Library.xml file with Text Edit, and found entries for both of these podcasts within using a search. I have removed the keys associated with both and did a search again to confirm they had been removed. I rebooted and tried FR again, and the podcasts are STILL there!!! What else can I do, PLEASE????

  • Download old podcast episodes off web then transfering?

Ok, so im sure some one else has realised that the itunes store isn't displaying old episodes of podcasts anymore, just the most recent 10 or 15.
Before, some podcasts had a certain amount of episodes available, but you could go to their website and download the episodes there, and just transfer them to itunes.
Now, when i try this, the podcast episodes transfer onto itunes, but won't transfer to my ipod 5.
Has anyone any idea how to fix this?? Or does the  podcasts app stop this??
    Thanks.

The link you gave me leads to a feed which is properly constructed as far as it goes but as I say is empty. Looking at the coding the text 'mp3' dopes not appear anywhere in it. You've constructed your feed in Wordpress/Powerpress and I'm afraid I can't advise on those. What have you done since originally posting?
You can see the text of your feed in the Feedvalidator report (you can ignore the two 'errors').
As you will see there is no 'item' tag nor any reference to mp3. If you are seeing a media file I can't explain that unless you aren't actually looking at the feed. The associated web page, http://www.pluggingintolife.com/podcast-page/ , has an embedded player referencing an MP3 file with a suitable URL (e.g. http not https) but it's not made it into the feed.

  • Old podcast episodes automatically deleted from iPod

Within the last couple of weeks, after I listen to certain podcasts, the episodes have been automatically removed from my iPod when I sync it with my Mac, but other old episodes remain. I don't have my iPod set up to do this. What should I do? Restore my iPod?

I have described the proces once on this forum.
In short: Disable automatic sync and enable manualy manage in itunes on yours ipod summary screen...
    It should look like this:

  • Podcast episode does not appear in iPod app on iPhone

My podcast feed "A Thoughtful Faith" has two episodes. Both of them download without trouble on the desktop version of iTunes, but on the iPhone after episode 1 downloads it still shows that it is available and not "Downloaded," and will not show up in iPod app. My listeners are reporting a similar problem.

LInking directly to their file is obviously the sensible thing to do. It looks as if the problem lies wieth the athoughtfulfaith.org server.
There is a test suggested in this thread to check for byte-range request ability, consisting of pasting this into Terminal:
    curl -I -r 200-300 http://athoughtfulfaith.org/podcast/AThoughtfulFaith-001-GregPrince.mp3
The results, according to that thread, would seem to suggest that the server does handle them:
    HTTP/1.1 206 Partial Content
    Date: Mon, 03 Sep 2012 21:08:02 GMT
    Server: Apache
    Last-Modified: Thu, 23 Aug 2012 04:06:04 GMT
    ETag: "3fb8374-2bf169c-4c7e6fa626300"
    Accept-Ranges: bytes
    Content-Length: 101
    Content-Range: bytes 200-300/46077596
    Content-Type: audio/mpeg
I don't know how reliable this test is. It may be that the problem is something different, particularly as the file appears to download complete and then disappears. I can only suggest trying hosting the file on another server, or asking the people who run your server whether they can suggest anything.
As to your other question, the PubDate for the Classic episode is indeed 2 September but the URL is definitely the mormonstories.org one. In order to look at the feed, control-click or right-click on the URL:
    http://athoughtfulfaith.org/podcast/atf-rss.xml
and choose 'Download linked file' or equivalent. Open the file in TextEdit or any text editor to read it: search for <enclosure to find the tag containing the media file URL.

  • I must be missing something... but how do you download old podcast episodes

Hi, I'm a little new to podcasts, and I seem to have a question already. I want to download an old episode of a podcast without downloading all the new ones. Is there anyway to do this? All I see is the subscribe button, and if I right click the one I want to download all I see is Get Info, Copy, and Copy iTunes Music Store URL. Any help is appreciated.

I just spent an hour trying to figure out the same thing. Do this:
    Subscribe to podcast.
Click "Podcast" on the left hand side of your screen(under the source heading). This will display the most recent episode of the podcast.
To get to the old episodes click the little arrow on the left of the recent episode to the right of the blue dot.
The old episodes will then be listed and you can either double click them, or click "get" and they will download.

  • Old podcast episodes not showing?

For some reason, my podcast 'Growth Everywhere' has the latest episodes showing but I can't see the old ones.
    My feedburner feed is here:
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/GrowthEverywhere
^-- I can see that it only goes up to a certain point in feedburner and my old posts are missing. Not sure what to do here.

One of the quickest solutions you could make would be to switch over feedburner to point to your libsyn feed as your source feed.  This would give you the most reliable source feed and ellimante issue you might be getting from wordpress managed feeds - which are the responsible for the biggest number of issues on the iTunes forums. I will follow up with you via email on more info.

  • Why are my old podcast episodes no longer showing up in iTunes?

I have been recording and releasing a podcast for just over a year, and I recently had a friend try to download back episodes from the podcast app, only to discover that she could only access the last 10 episodes. As this excludes new listeners from downloading 42 back episodes, it's extremely frustrating. Do I need to resubmit the feed? (Is that even possible?) Or should I try to contact iTunes (which is next to impossible)?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice you can share. I'm sure I'm not the first person to encounter this, but I couldn't find any answers after a brief search of the forums....
    --Kaila

The iTunes Store listing of your podcast is simply reflecting the contents of your podcast feed. Make sure all of the content you want displayed in the iTunes Store is still contained within your feed.
Are you able to supply your feed for reference?

  • New podcast episodes overwriting old podcast episodes

One of my weekly podcasts is always overwriting itself because iTunes only makes the filename so long and the name of every episode starts with the same name and then the date. Is there any way to change the length of the filenames iTunes writes for podcasts or would somone tell me how and what to tell the provider of the podcast how to fix this problem?

The 'title' tag for your 2 September episode reads
    <title>&#xC;Love Thy Neighbor</title>
The ode at the start isn't upsetting the iTunes application but it's upsetting FireFox when used as a feed reader and is flagged as an error by FeedValidator, so it's extremely likely that it's upsetting the Store and rendering the feed unreadable. You need to remove it.
The code appears to be for a linebreak and is, I read elsewhere, permissible in XML 1.1 but not 1.0 which is what you have specified: in any event, you don't want a linebreak and getting rid of it altogether will probably solve your problem.

  • ITunes won't delete old podcasts

I've seen other people mention this topic in other threads, but haven't seen any satisfactory resolution. For several months now, I've had a problem with iTunes where it won't auto-delete my old listened to podcasts like it's supposed to.
I have the "Podcasts" preferences set to check for new episodes every day, download all available episodes, and keep all unplayed episodes. When I listen to them on my iPod nano (first gen) and sync with iTunes, the little blue bullets disappear from the podcasts I've listened to as expected. However, the listened to podcasts don't delete themselves. It's a real pain to have to manage this by hand, and this is exactly the kind of thing that Apple is supposed to be making EASY for us.
iTunes also has a problem where old podcast episodes are randomly getting re-downloaded.
Both of these problems are very annoying. I'm really disappointed that Apple has done such a poor job of this. I realize this is turning into a gripe session, but seriously, I have three pretty major problems with podcasting using iTunes and iPod which Apple should really fix because I doubt if I'm the only one.
    1. Old podcasts are not getting deleted as they should (yes, this used to work, but it hasn't for some time).
    2. Really old podcasts (months old) randomly re-download themselves.
    3. The iPod still insists on sorting podcasts with the newest first rather than giving you an option to play from the oldest unlistened episode. Many podcasts go in sequence, so it's a pain to have to make a custom play list every time I want to listen going from oldest to newest.
    That's it.
    PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1.5 GB RAM

YES!!! These are precisely the three issues I'm having with iTunes! I'm using an 80GB iPod Video, and I'm almost exclusively listening to podcasts (yay NPR!). They take up a lot of space on my hard drive because they're not auto-deleting. They delete off of my iPod ok (though it'd be a cool feature if it didn't delete unless it was listened to through the end, but that's nitpicking), but they pile up in my podcasts directory until I delete them manually, even though I have "keep new episodes" selected.
And please, allow for podcasts to play in chronological order on my iPod, oldest on top! I think I remember reading somewhere that having them appear the other way is actually touted as a benifit?
As for the random download of old episodes, I've had that, and it's annoying, but an easy enough thing to delete or skip, and mark as played on the mac.
I had the lack of updates problem for a while, I inexplicably lost Marketplace for several months, but now it's back... Those last two problem aren't Apple's fault, I suspect; just a result of several pieces to a puzzle needing to be exactly right in order to work correctly.
Thanks for re-introducing this topic, here's hoping for a solution!

  • Orphaned podcast episodes can now be restored to the Podcast section.

The Media Kind selector now includes a Podcast entry so that you can restore episodes that iTunes has "forgotten" were podcasts. On the downside there still doesn't seem to be a way to merge the old and new episodes where a Podcast series has changed it's title. (Unless someone knows different?)

    UPDATE:
Ok, i found the track in my playlist (on the iPhone) by visually poring over it until i found it by title. It has changed the album to "unknown" and the artist is blank. It does not show up under albums / unknown. It only appears in the playlist itself.
If i view file info in iTunes, the artist and album fields are correct. So somehow in transferring to the iPhone, this data is being... rewritten? Lost?
So here is my "solution" - make a separate playlist for old podcast episodes, because my main iPhone playlist is way too big to go searching manually through. Then get over the fact that proper data is not displayed. Also if you use iScrobbler or anything like that, forget about these tracks being recognized. Leave feedback here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html , and wait patiently for 1.1.4.
Oh yeah, if (like me), you are a podcaster, add all of this to your help page.

  • Deleted Podcast Episodes Reappear

Old podcast episodes keep reappearing on iPhone. No matter how I try to delete, they come back.  I do not have any podcasts on my computer, so not a syncing problem.  The episodes reappear within seconds of my deleting them.

I have exactly the problem, made even more annoying when its one of my own podcast that had some corruption in the text!!

  • Old podcasts added back as new when syncing iPhone

I have my iPhone and iTunes set to not sync any podcast subscriptions, so that all my podcast data is stored on my phone and not my computer. But since the Podcasts app was updated for iOS 7, whenever I sync my phone a few old podcast episodes get added back as unplayed episodes, even though I've listened to them on my phone and they've been automatically deleted. Also, new episodes that I haven't listened to are often deleted when I sync, so I have to go back into the catalogue and re-download them.
Any ideas on how to keep this from happening?

yeah but if you have a backup of the old data you can restore it to the new laptop and it will replace the data on the iphone with the same data from the backup
