Old Podcast Won't Disappear

Does anyone know how long it will take for the old podcast to disappear off of iTunes if you switched feeds? Right now both show feeds are up there with one of them saying this show isn't available in the "enter country name here" store. It's confusing to some people who end up thinking the entire show is not available. iTunes approved the switch a good month ago I'd say.

True. Getting a podcast removed is a mystery. According to the iTunes podcast spec, one would need to go to the podcast's iTunes directory page, click the "report a concern" button and choose the option to "remove podcast" and explain that you are the owner and would like the feed removed....and wait.
Of course, since you are getting the "item no longer available...blah blah..." message, you can't do this.
The only other thing says that they will remove dead and inactive podcasts. Of course, they don't mention a time frame.
So you are stuck until the magical iTunes fairies decide to remove your dead and forgotten feed.
There are quite a few people in your same situation. One of the seemingly endless list of shortcomings and oversights that the iTunes podcast directory has.

  • ITunes won't delete old podcasts

I've seen other people mention this topic in other threads, but haven't seen any satisfactory resolution. For several months now, I've had a problem with iTunes where it won't auto-delete my old listened to podcasts like it's supposed to.
I have the "Podcasts" preferences set to check for new episodes every day, download all available episodes, and keep all unplayed episodes. When I listen to them on my iPod nano (first gen) and sync with iTunes, the little blue bullets disappear from the podcasts I've listened to as expected. However, the listened to podcasts don't delete themselves. It's a real pain to have to manage this by hand, and this is exactly the kind of thing that Apple is supposed to be making EASY for us.
iTunes also has a problem where old podcast episodes are randomly getting re-downloaded.
Both of these problems are very annoying. I'm really disappointed that Apple has done such a poor job of this. I realize this is turning into a gripe session, but seriously, I have three pretty major problems with podcasting using iTunes and iPod which Apple should really fix because I doubt if I'm the only one.
    1. Old podcasts are not getting deleted as they should (yes, this used to work, but it hasn't for some time).
    2. Really old podcasts (months old) randomly re-download themselves.
    3. The iPod still insists on sorting podcasts with the newest first rather than giving you an option to play from the oldest unlistened episode. Many podcasts go in sequence, so it's a pain to have to make a custom play list every time I want to listen going from oldest to newest.
    That's it.

YES!!! These are precisely the three issues I'm having with iTunes! I'm using an 80GB iPod Video, and I'm almost exclusively listening to podcasts (yay NPR!). They take up a lot of space on my hard drive because they're not auto-deleting. They delete off of my iPod ok (though it'd be a cool feature if it didn't delete unless it was listened to through the end, but that's nitpicking), but they pile up in my podcasts directory until I delete them manually, even though I have "keep new episodes" selected.
And please, allow for podcasts to play in chronological order on my iPod, oldest on top! I think I remember reading somewhere that having them appear the other way is actually touted as a benifit?
As for the random download of old episodes, I've had that, and it's annoying, but an easy enough thing to delete or skip, and mark as played on the mac.
I had the lack of updates problem for a while, I inexplicably lost Marketplace for several months, but now it's back... Those last two problem aren't Apple's fault, I suspect; just a result of several pieces to a puzzle needing to be exactly right in order to work correctly.
Thanks for re-introducing this topic, here's hoping for a solution!

  • Old Podcasts on iTunes 12 Keep Disappearing!

    Hello,
I was wondering if anyone can help me with this reoccurring issue i've been dealing with. I like to keep old podcasts, so I can occasionally go back and listen to them. I just bought a 13 inch Macbook Pro, and I transferred all my stuff including my podcasts over to the new Laptop. The first thing I did was disable the "Delete When Played" option, to make sure I didn't loose anything. After a few days, I starting noticing that one podcast in particular kept deleting everything on it's podcast list. It showed Podcasts, but they hadn't been downloaded (The ones with the little cloud with down arrow icon). To my relief I found the Podcast folder, and all the files were still there. So I deleted the Podcast from my Itunes Library and imported the podcast again. It seemed to work for a while, but after a few days the same dowloaded podcasts disappeared again. This has happened three, maybe four times over the past couple weeks, and for the life of me, I can't figure out what the problem is, and why it only seems to be effecting this one Podcast, and not the others.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Josh
BTW: Sorry my thread is under the subject "Using Iphone," and not under iTunes. I simply clicked New and then Discussion, and it put me here.

Thanks for the input! I right clicked one of the disappearing episodes, but there was no "Save Episode" on the drop down menu. There was "Remove From Saved Episodes" option.

  • ITunes 11.1 won't let me delete old podcasts

I know it's been covered in many other posts, but want to make sure Apple hears this.
ITunes 11.1's new podcast section insists on showing me years of old podcasts I've already listened to and want to delete and never see again. This is not a feature. This is a bug. You are making my life less happy. Change it right now.

Oh how I agree.  Most agrivating thing in the world.  Must be an employee getting even with apple.  Don't see how anyone who uses this program could have let it slip through.  Doesn't anyone at apple actually buy and iphone?  Sort of like when Ford president looked out the window and he only saw toyoto cars in the employee parking lot.  Simply can't believe this.
Otherwise one other small complaint.  The backgrounds are too white and hurt my eyes.  How about a softer text background color please.

  • Video Podcasts Won't Play under 7.3.2.6

Just installed new itunes and quick time and numerous previously downloaded and newly downloaded video podcasts won't play. You can see the opening frame on the small screen at bottom left if you click but when you try to play, the screen goes green, purple or other color and starts to vertically roll (like old tvs used to do) with foggy images. Strangely other video podcasts (old and new)do play. One example of podcast that does not play is Photoshop Killer Tips; one that does play is Adobe Photoshop Quick Tips.
Computer has plenty of space and has been cleaned of temporary files, defragged, etc.

And this is when going to videos-->video podcasts, right? Do they even show up there at all?

  • Deleted podcasts won't go to the recycling bin

I'm running the newest version of iTunes, freshly installed, in Windows 7. Most of my podcasts come from a backup that I dragged and dropped into my iTunes folder. I've done this before without any issues. However, now whenever I try to delete a podcast that I haven't recently downloaded, it will give me a dialog stating that the podcast won't sync if I delete it, and then the buttons "Delete Podcast" and "Cancel" Rather than the "Keep File" "Remove to Recycling Bin" and "Cancel" that I'm used to. Deleting does not send the podcast into the recycling bin as it is supposed to and as it used to, however; it instead keeps the podcast in the same file and removes the instance from iTunes. I don't want to have to delete every file twice. Selecting all files and clicking on Allow Auto Delete changed nothing. Repairing my install of iTunes did not change anything. It seems as though all other instances of this issue are many years old. Assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. If necessary grant your account and system full control to this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to replace permissions on child objects which will repair permissions throughout the library. This is the XP dialog but Windows 7 shouldn't be too different.

  • Delete old podcasts?

*** please someone tell me how to delete old podcasts in the new iTunes bollocks there is no ability to highlight and delete! How can this be?

Which view are you looking at? In iTunes / Podcasts / List, there is no way to remove the items - if you mark them as played, the file will disappear from your computer, but the item will still be in the Lists pane, with a cloud icon beside it.
The "My Podcasts" or "My Stations" panes seem to be more useful at this point.
Now, if you're trying to stop them from downloading again: don't delete the podcast file in the first place. Instead, mark it as played - and that should make it disappear. If you delete it without playing it, iTunes for some reason thinks you must want it back. (Note that deleting on the iPhone still does what you'd expect it to do - delete the darn file! - but in iTunes it doesn't seem to work.)

  • After 3.0 Update - Very old podcasts appear on my device.

These are podcasts viewed over 2 years ago (created when I was using an ipod). They show up on the device only, but not on my computer's iTunes screen. I am able to manually delete these, but they return when I do my next sync. Apple was only able to show me how to delete manually (an undocumented feature), but could not explain where these are coming from, or how to get rid of them permenantly.

Haha, seriously...how ridiculous is our glitch? We just have to manually delete, and eventually the problem won't come back?
I must say that even though the thought of that being a "technical solution" seems absurd, I think you may be right. I manually deleted these old podcasts last night (for the 2nd or 3rd time), synced this morning, and so far I don't see any indication of them anywhere!
Thanks for your help! I hope the solution stays! If not, it's not the worst glitch in the world (just annoying), and I'm sure it will be patched in OS 3.0.X.

  • Podcasts won't synch

My daughter just got a 4th Gen 8Gb iPod Nano. Prior to getting her new nano, she had a 1st gen nano synched to iTunes v8. We have set up the new nano, however, iTunes doesn't seem to recognize that the new nano has the ability to play podcasts. She has downloaded a few and it says that they "are not copied to the device because they cannot be played on this iPod." On the left side under the device, it does not show podcasts either. I have reset the iPod, reinstalled iTunes and nothing seems to work. Any additional help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Aherlow

I just noticed this yesterday as well. I have been using a 2nd Gen Nano, had no problems with Podcasts, etc. Now this past Saturday got an 8GB 4th Gen. Nano and loaded music, podcasts, pics, etc., still with almost 3 GB free.
New Podcasts won't copy to the Nano when I drag them there. Interestingly, Podcasts that are more than 4 days old (the ones I've already heard) will drag and drop onto the Nano just fine. I wondered if the Podcasts were really there, but clicked on it and it plays fine in iTunes. What is going on? I am updated to iTunes 8.0.1.11
I double-checked, and yes I am logged in to iTunes under my userID/e-mail. Argh.

  • Old podcast episode stuck on my nano ipod

I have a problem with my nano ipod, I have a second generation and it has a old podcast episode that won't go away.I download it on another computer and when I updated it on another computer, the episode is still their.I've tried deleting it and found out that the site that I got the episode from, had their podcast taken down.Is their any way that I can remove this episode?

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.
The exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases

  • Front Row still displays deleted old podcast episode

I have subscribes to ScreenCastsOnline podcast, and one of the episodes was an audio update. It is only since I checked in iTunes today that I have found I don't actually have that episode in iTunes anymore, and it is definately not in the Podcasts folder within the iTunes folder. Yet Front Row is saying I still have it, and it has a blue ball next to it to say it hasn't been played. If I try to play it, Front Row tells me it can't be played (obviously because the file is no longer there).
I have tried unsubscribing to ScreenCastsOnline and making sure there is no trace of it in the iTunes folder, and yet the one episode is STILL listed on Front Row!!
    How can I remove it?

    Update:
Firstly, there are actually TWO old podcast episodes total that are not on my Mac anymore but are listed on Front Row. I removed any trace of all Podcasts in iTunes and the podcast folder disappeared in the iTunes Music library folder, yet two podcasts remained in FR.
Secondly, I opened the iTunes Music Library.xml file with Text Edit, and found entries for both of these podcasts within using a search. I have removed the keys associated with both and did a search again to confirm they had been removed. I rebooted and tried FR again, and the podcasts are STILL there!!! What else can I do, PLEASE????

  • How to stop syncing old podcasts?

hi. my touch keeps downloading the old podcasts whenever i connect it to my pc. what should i do on itunes to make this process stop? i just keep on deleting them on the touch whenever i see it, but when i re-connect it, they appear again. thanks.

Delete the episodes from iTunes maybe? Thats what I do after listenting to episodes for 23 different podcasts. I have iTunes and iPod set to keep all and sync all then delete episodes from iTunes after listening.

  • My podcasts won't sync from iTunes to my iPhone

I had been downloading podcasts onto iTunes, with several on auto-subscription, with any new ones auto-transferring to my iPhone each time I plugged it into the laptop via USB.  A couple of days ago, I noticed that no new podcasts were showing up on my phone, checked iTunes against the ones on my phone and saw that several new ones on iTunes hadn't transferred.  I tried a manual sync, which did not work - new episodes visible on iTunes but not on my iPhone.  I tried going into the "Get Info" menu for an individual podcast, as mentioned on one of the other threads, to make sure that it was being recognized as a podcast rather than music or another medium - no change.  I tried advice mentioned in another thread (the user who suggested it readily admitted it was a temporary patch job), of adding all past, present and future episodes of a podcast to ensure I get new ones; I saw old podcasts that I had previously deleted, now eligible for download from the cloud, but none of the newer episodes that I had not yet been able to download.  The iPhone is a 5S, and software on iPhone, iTunes, the laptop (Macbook Pro, uncertain version) and the Podcast app have all been updated since this problem started as part of my attempt at fixing it.
Any other ideas for things I could do or try?  I can't recall updating any component in the chain (laptop, iTunes, iPhone) recently, nor have I changed any equipment, any iTunes settings, any phone settings, or otherwise.  These podcasts are a big part of what gets me through an hour and a half commute to work each morning, so any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Here's what I think happened because I am in the middle of it right now.  I just bought a ton of videos and also updated my software. I think Apple cleverly decided that now you can not update it without now paying for the Icloud feature that allows you to share all your devices.  You have to click Itunes match, I have never seen it before but when I clicked on it it was 24bucks.  This is actually pretty lame in my opinion because it moved all my stuff off my ipad on to my imac and now im paying another 24 bucks to get it back where I wanted it .
