Old Powerbook running Tiger can't connect to Fios

I have an old Powerbook G4 (titanium, 1 Ghz) with an 802.11b airport card, firmware v 9.52. I am running Tiger (OS X 10.4.11) with all software updates applied. Until a few weeks ago, I was using Charter Communications for my ISP and an Airport Extreme. I connected the Powerbook to the network using WPA security and had no problems.
Then I switched to Fios and am using their router. I have configured it the same way as the Airport Extreme, but keep getting an error message saying that I'm using the incorrect password. I've looked through this forum and done everything others have suggested including making sure that I'm using TKIS, but no luck.
Any suggestions?

I am having exactly the same trouble.
Email through another network, (say, my home or work wifi) works correctly and I can send and receive messages.
However email when using the T-Mobile wireless network does not connect.
This is obviously not an activation issue.  My account is not deactivated if I can send and receive messages using another network, so using the pin activation page is not the appropriate fix for this problem.

  • Mac Mini with OS X Tiger  can't connect to windows XP shared directory

I recently upgrade my mac mini from OS X panther to tiger, after i upgrade, i can't connect to the shared directory on my PC. The internet is working correctly on the MAC. and before the upgrading, it works fine as well.
the symptom is I click on finder menu -> go -> connect to server, type in smb://x.x.x.x, click on connect, nothing happens, it does not even try to connect.
I have another Powerbook connecting to the same sub net and it can connect to my PC with no problem.
    please help.
    thank you very much.

as for log out and back in, i tried restarting several times already, which didn't work yet.
Not the same thing actually... logging out and in will theoretically have all the Interfaces up & running already, whereas on Bootup, things may be trying to happen before other things are ready.

  • PowerBook G4 - 12" can't connect via AirPort (WiFi)

For 18 months I've had WiFi at my home and I connect my MacBook (OS X 10.5.6), my iPod Touch; my daughter connects a PC running Vista! I used to be able to connect my PBG4-12" running Tiger 10.4.11 - but today I was trying to connect and it doesn't even see my WiFi - even right next to it in the same room!
I connect via the ethernet cable fine-- and the other Mac/iPod/PC are accessing WiFi fine. The PBG4 finds the neighbors WiFi - but not mine!
I type in the name and password-- nope, nothing! I turn Airport off and then try the cable and perfect-- I'm on the www but not with "WiFi".
This seems very strange-- usually it's all or none-- sometimes a PC can kick-off the other computers and I have to pull the electrical (is that a hard restart to the modems etc?)
But this is really a bit strange...
Thanks for any suggestions on what to do here.

Hello -- Good questions but I'll need help in order to answer them.
I have a D-Link WiFi Modem - DIR-635- Dec 2007 purchase, and here's some info from the 90 page manual:
Combines award winning router features and Draft 802.11n wireless technology to provide the best wireless performance.
Compatible with 802.11b and 802.11g Devices - The DIR-635 is still fully compatible with the IEEE
802.11b standard, so it can connect with existing 802.11b PCI, USB and Cardbus adapters.
Would a Dec 2007 iPod Touch 1st Gen be on WiFi 'n'? How to check?
How to find the channel on which the WiFi is broadcasting?
Thanks for any replies and then I can re-reply!
The crazy thing is that I'm almost certain I've had my PBG4 connected to the web via this (my first and only) D-Link WiFi DIR-635 Modem.

  • Old Great ADS Speakers- Can I connect them to my Mac Pro?

I have a pair of old ADS speakers that are great, a beautiful rich sound. I want to hook them up to my Mac Pro. They are the kind that use speaker wire. Can I connect these up to my Mac Pro? They don't have RCA or mini plug, they just connect using the bare speaker wire. The answer is probably simple I just am drawing a blank here. Any help greatly appreciated.

  • My imac running lion can not connect to a Windows PC on my network

My imac runing lion 10.7 can not connect to my Windows 7 pc on my network. When i select connect to server, I can see the windows computer but when i try to connect, i get the error message:
Connection failed.  There was a problem connecting to the server.  Ther server may not exist or is unavailable at this time.  Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection and try again.
I entered smb:// computer name and I tried smb://IP address.  Neither would connect.
I am able to connect to the imac from my Window PC and access files but not I can not connect my iMac to the Windows PC.
I am trying to connect the two computers so that I can use a printer that is attached to the Windows 7 pc.
When I first downl;oaded and installed Lion, I was able to connect to the Windows 7 pc and use the printer attached to it.
I have tried 5 or 6 different suggestions to no avail.  Both computers are up to date and the printer drivers are up to date.
Please let me know if there is a solution.

Be sure to make the network Workgroup name on the Mac and Windows boxes the same.
On the Mac it is in System Preferences, Network Preferences, Advanced, WINS
On the Windows machine check in the Control Panel where you will also find the Computer name listed. I don't have my PC running right now, so I am not sure exactly where it is. Only assign a Workgroup, do not create a Domain.
You can also search in Windows for Workgroup.
I can link/network Lion to Win7 and vice versa without any problems.

  • Old Mac Mini G4 can't connect to 2009 Mac Mini via AirPort

Well, I bought a new Mac Mini and wanted my kids to use the old one for general web surfing. The first day I hooked it up with the AirPort to the new one and everything was great, we were Home Sharing iTunes, sharing files, etc. The next day when I powered up, I could not establish a connection. My settings seem the same, and I had them both connected (kids were browsing the web etc.) once, so I figure it can be done, but now I'm lost. Help!

What sort of Airport? There are two meanings of Airport. One is AirPort Access Point made by Apple. Such as AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme. The other meaning to the term "Airport" is Wireless device to Macintosh computers. When you say you connect to "Airport", I don't know which Airport is broadcast the signal as an Access Point device. Because Macintosh itself CAN BE an Access Point base itself too! Was your G4 Mac mini connected to the New Mac mini or there was a Wireless Access Point device in your house? It's different.

  • How to transfer mail accounts from old Mac running Tiger to brand new Mac?

I just ordered a new mac. Should be here on Monday (can't wait). I want to set it up with my existing mail (all my inboxes, and old messages, etc.). What would you suggest I do?
I was thinking I could move over my mail folder (wherever that may be) to the new account on my new mac. Will that work? Do I need to create the account first, then copy it over? Of copy it and then bring up Mail for the first time? I have several email accounts (gmail, .mac, etc.). Is all that in one place on the old mac?
I would appreciate some help. I want to be ready when it gets here.
    Thanks!

I've read that you can copy the ~/Library/Mail and ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist and then start up Mail. The only worry I have is that Mail on Snow Leopard will not understand the "Tiger" version of Mail files. Can anyone confirm if this will or will not work?
    Thanks.

  • PowerBook runs HOT with iPhone connected

Has anyone else observed their computer running hot (fans rev up real fast!) while their iPhone is connected? I'm still waiting for "the new at&t" to get my activation unclogged, so maybe it's just because my iPhone is still in a pre-activated mode, but whenever I connect it to my 12" PowerBook G4, the computer starts heating up and revving its fans like it is working REALLY HARD. A check of the Activity Monitor shows that the CPU is below 10% and there are no unusual messages flooding the console.log or system.log ...
    Anyone else seeing this?

Yes, my PowerBook revs up even when both it and the iPhone are idle (screenlocked even-- the iPhone not the PowerBook!)
But you have a point.. maybe the problem has something to do with the PowerBook's power management chip. I'll try following Apple's PMU reset procedure tonight when I get home. While I'm at it, I'll try an Open Firmware reset too.
    I'll post my findings..
Thanks everyone for your help on this!
My fiancee's iPhone connects to her 1.25 GHz 12" PB
without the rev-up problem most of the time. But it
does rev up when it's doing anything remotely
computationally intensive, like resizing photos. If
yours is doing that just from being connected, that
is strange. What is the internal temperature of the
PB? (There are some programs and dashboard widgets
that will tell you, I think - not sure what
thermometers the 12" PB has.) Maybe you have a vent
    blocked or something.
This might be becoming a question for the 12" PB
messageboard - maybe it's a general problem with
high-drain USB devices on some models?
Have you tried hooking up the iPhone through a
powered USB hub? That would perhaps isolate if it's
a current-drain issue. Maybe this is a symptom of
other power-supply problems with the PB.

  • Need to Uninstall AIR on Old iMac running Tiger

    Please ! Help me!
I'm on an iMac 5,1 running OS 10.4.11
I had a HD crash earlier this week and am running from my External backup HD.  I bought a second ext. HD and need to backup to that to protect everything.  I spent 10 hours copying to the new HD only to have it fail because of AIR with this message :
    | 08:34:39 AM | Error | ditto: /Library/Frameworks/Adobe AIR.framework/Versions/1.0/Resources/it.lproj/AuthDialog.nib/./keyedobjects.nib: Input/output error
I need to UNINSTALL AIR from my Ext HD - the version I have of AIR is: CFBundle version: 1.5.0.7220
I tried Adobe Chat and they sent me here.
    Inside my Finder I have:
    /Applications/Utilities/Adobe AIR Application Installer
    and
    /Applications/Utilities/Adobe AIR Uninstaller
If I click on the Uninstaller, it gives me a message that says "An error occurred while uninstalling Adobe AIR.  Uninstallation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator."
    I am the only user/owner/administrator
Can someone PLEASE help me get this AIR off my HD so I can finish my backup?  I have NO IDEA what AIR is or what it does.
Thank you so much in advance for helping me!!!!

Try deleting your /Library/Frameworks/Adobe AIR.framework folder manually.  That should allow you to reinstall AIR from the runtime installer which you can get here:  http://get.adobe.com/air

  • Problem PRINTING   FROM G4 POWERBOOK  running tiger

Previously I retruned an HP printer to retailer after spending hours on phone to their tech help people and still not having the machine work properly.
However during those phonecalls the tech person got me to delte certain printer related things and I fear the printer queue option is one of them.
It simply isnt there and everytime I try to access it through applications and I get box with the pic of my Brother MFC - 5440CN printer hitting the print queue beneath it does nothing.
Do I need to do a whole restore ?

Try resetting the printing system from the Printer Setup Utility, and then reinstalling the printer. If you cannot reinstall the printer, you may just need to reinstall the Brother driver, which should be available on their website.

  • How can I get my music off my g5  running tiger to my iPad2

I suspect that this will not work. How can I get my iTunes library from my old G5 running tiger to my iPad  2?

I think you need to get it into a current i tunes library, then you can sync.
Here is a link with a rather long but useful discussion.  There are some non apple tools floating around to grab the media as well.  You need two steps, getting the stuff off of the old system, and getting them onto the pad.  To do the second step, you need a current i tunes set up somewhere.

  • Time Machine Backup Options with old powerbook

I'm looking for some suggestions on the following. I have two computers running Leopard, my wifes iMac and my Macbook. I have an older powerbook (running tiger) that jumped out of an airplane, bounced hard, and rattled its monitor hard enough to be unviewable. I can, however, connect to it and control it via Chicken of the VNC.
What I would like to do is unclutter my wifes workspace by removing the 2 external HD's connected to the iMac, connect them to the powerbook and run our Time Machine backups through the powerbook onto the external harddrives.
How can I connect and use those drives with Time Machine if the powerbook is running Tiger, not Leopard?
If that isn't doable, what other options are there to make those hard drives mountable over a network?
Is there any other way to keep those hard drives out of sight while still running our backups to them?
    Thanks for your help,
    -JJ

Even with an 802.11n wireless card you will have to change your wireless router to one that also supports 802.11n. Every element of your home network will have to support 802.11n in order to use it. If the router doesn't support it then the network will default to 802.11g. 802.11n has a throughput rate of about 140 Mbits/sec which is only a little faster than 100BT Ethernet. Still quite slow. Not even as fast as USB 2.0 which is slower than FW400 in this type of use.
Frankly, if you can't use Gigabit Ethernet then I don't think you will be very pleased with using networked backup or storage.
The better option is to connect an external Firewire drive to each computer and use TM or third-party backup software. Use FW800 if the computers have a FW800 port. You can always use wireless for file sharing between the computers. Put the Pismo in the closet.
    That's my opinion.
