Old printer on G5

I don't think this is possible, but anyway I will ask the question...
I want to connect an older Epson printer to a G5 computer. The Epson printer doesnt have USB, but has a PC parallel port and a Mac serial port. It's currently connected to a beige Mac and works fine. The problem is, when I want a printout from it, I have to back save my file on the G5 and network the file to the beige Mac and load + print from there. A real pain to do. I have seen some references to "adaptors" which link up old printers to USB computers. Would this work in my case.
I might add that on the Epson web site, the printer doesnt appear to have a Mac OS X driver (or for that matter a WinXP driver). It's just listed as a "Classic" driver for Mac. Is there anywhere you can get a 3rd party driver or some sort of gimp support so it can be used in OS X on the G5?
The other thing that would be good is if the G5 as it is now could print over the network through the beige Mac to the printer. But OS X on the G5 can't see the printer, although it picks up the other printers no problem.
David

Without an OSX driver you won't be able to go directly to it from your G5 and it won't be visible to it on a network either. The driver is what makes it both visible and useable. The only option you have with this printer is to send the file to the biege Mac and output from it. Unless there is some real important reason to keep towing this printer forward it would be pretty inexpensive to get a very good replacement for under 100 bucks and for a bit more get a really nice replacement for $150 or less.

  • I have been using Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 for two years. I got a new printer and installed it although I did not remove my old printer from my computer. I used this program and my new printer for quite a few months, but today I deleted my old printer

I have been using Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 for along time now. When I first used the program I had a different printer than I have now. Although I changed printers I never removed the software from my old one. Now this was never a problem until today. When I choose a printer I still had option to use the old one but always chose my new HP Envy 5530 and Adobe never had a problem printing from that new printer. However today I decided to remove my old printer from my computer and now my Adobe cannot find my new printer.  How can I make it find the HP printer?

    Try this --
Go to the bottom of the link I gave you, and you will see
click that link and then click the chat button to talk to an Adobe agent

Check with the manufacturer of your printer.

  • How do i make my mac forget an old printer?

i have a new printer and want to make my mac forget my previous printer, as it continues to automatically look for the old unit. Any helpful tips?

Open Print & Scan preferences. Delete the old printer. Add the new printer.

  • How do i remove my old printer icon/software?

i recently bought a new printer and installed in on my mac, and am no longer using the old HP as the wireless radio doesnt work. the HP icon is still on my dock, and i want to remove the software and the icon. new printer is installed, but the icon isn't on the dock, and i have to search for it when i want to scan something. also, i want to put my cisco router icon on the dock as well.  i am a longtime PC user who switched to this mac in march last year. still learning the ropes!
    thanks!

    Removing Old Printer:
On your Dock, drag the Old Printer icon away from the dock. (A puff of smoke should show - this means you have removed it from the Dock)
Navigate to [System Preferences > Print & Scan].
(On the left of the Print & Scan window will be a white colored column, titled 'Printers', with a '+' and a '-' symbol at the bottom.) Click on the Old HP Printer, that is located in this column, and click the '-' symbol that is at the bottom of the white colored column titled 'Printers'.
Select 'Delete Printer' when the dialogue box shows.
    Adding Printer Icon to Dock:
Navigate to [System Preferences > Print & Scan].
Drag the New Printer Icon (In the White Column titled 'Printers') and place it on your Dock.
Please note: You cannot add the Printer Icon next to the Icons near the Trash Can.
Keep moving the Printer Icon along the Dock until a gap opens for you to place the Printer Icon.
Adding the Router Icon to Dock:
As far as I am aware, this is not possible. Wi-Fi settings are located on the Title Bar at the top right hand corner, of every window.
There is no need to have the Router on the Dock.

  • How do I get my old printer "HP Laserjet 4mv" to work on my newer Macs with OSX?

How do I get my old printer "HP Laserjet 4mv" to work on my newer Macs with OSX?
There is no HP support for this old printer. I have tried to connect via ethernet (thru ethernet router), and it does not show up in printer preferences. The printer worked fine on system 9x but when I went to my new macs with system X no luck. This is a great B&W printer that prints at 18 x 24". I would like to keep it and not junk it, but its been sitting on my desk unused for some time now. Any thoughts or JUNK IT! Thanks, R.T.

Does anyone at Apple have help for this sort of question - I too have an old printer (HP LaserJet 5MP) that I would like to keep using on my Mac. (Mac OSX 10.6.8).
I got it working by getting a USB cord that connects to it - but every once in a while it just stops working for weeks. The mac 'sees' it and it sends the data because the printer lights start blinking but then it just doesn't do anything. Is there no one who can tell me (and raterada) how to get some new life into these old printers. I would rather not add this (and a new toner cart) to the landfill just yet. . .

I have purchased a new printer.  It is the same make as my old printer.  How do I remove the old printer from my Mac?

you could see if that make of printer has an uninstaller (may come with the installer)
or go to preferences, print and fax, and press the minus key   (  -   ) which should maybe remove it. Or ,do a a find, then type in the make of printer, and anything that looks like a printer driver for that make, well, maybe it's gotta go
    just an idea

Purchasing new HP Photosmart printer which will require new OS X Mountain Lion driver, which installation steps do I take.  Old printer still on iMac.

    Hi Carol 22,
Thanks for the post.  Depending upon the printer model, print drivers may be available from ASU.  If not, then go to hp.com and download Mt. Lion drivers to your iMac.  After you complete the hardware setup of the printer, if connecting wireless, then connect the printer to your network and then complete the installation and add the printer.  Then you can go back and remove your old printer.  I hope this helps...Good Luck!
I work for HP but my posts and replies are my own....Thank you!

  • During printing of invoice it is taking old printer.

I have created a billing document and during printing of invoice it is taking the old printer. We have installed a new printer though it is taking old printer only.

    Hi srivastava ,
Change the output device on the output condition record to the new printer using transaction VV32. If the output is printed on the same old printer even after the condition record changes check the printer assigned to your user ID in the below path  "system --> user profile --> own data --> Defaults tab "
    Hope this solves your problem.
    Thanks

  • PS CS5 won't print after uninstall of old printer

I am running PSCS5 and today I uninstalled my old printer and I am unable to print to my new printer.  The printer works for all other apps so it is Adobe PS that has the issue.  How can I troubleshoot this please.
Every time I try to print it just closes out and gives me a issue window.  I installed the trial for CC thinking it would clear up the preferences or something maybe but CC only puts out blank pages with nothing on the paper.  Is there a place that I can delet the old printer from my CS5?

What printer? What OS? Did you install the most recent driver after you uninstalled the printer?
Your post does nothing to help us help you...you want help? Give all of your info...

Not sure what you mean: You didn't connect it directly to a USB port, you daisy chained it to the old printer? Or you mean you used the cable from the old printer?
I assume since you contacted HP, that you have the proper Driver/Software installed and they probably walked you through uninstalling/reinstalling. BTW, from my experience, HP printer tech support isn't all that wonderful and I wouldn't necessarily trust that they gave you the best advice.
What comes to mind is there was an HP printer update for Snow Leopard in Software Update, at least for my inkjet, which I'd been neglecting for ages. But when I finally installed it, it cleared up a number of issues. But, before updating, I was at least able to print and the printer was seen. Anyway, have a look in Software Update. I looked around the HP site for a standalone update and couldn't find anything.
If you give me the model I can probably find the most current software for it on the HP site.

  • Old printer profile removals

How do you remove old printer profiles from
the Customize Proof Condition area under "Device to Simulate:
Every six months new ones come out and the old one need
    to be removed.

I don't think that they are different. In my view the "Working RGB' shows the current working profile.

  • Delete old printer drivers

I have a laptop running windows 8.1.  I had tried to connect an old printer to the laptop, but have been unsuccessful.
Although I have deleted the printers from devices and printers, all the copies of the printer show up in word, excel etc when I try to print a document.
I can see them in print server properties, but it won't let me delete them as it says they are in use.
I have stopped the print spooler but this makes no difference.
    Can anyone help me please?

Check if the printer is set to default, if yes then remove it. Or goto safe mode and remove it.
