Old question; New to me: Keychain + Mail.app

Having gone thru searches prior to posting, I know
that this is an old question; but I could not track
down my answer in the 700+ pages listing various concerns on this subject.I hope this is the correct forum to post
this question!?
First_background...
I'm using an iMac G4 running 10.3.9.
There are two users_both admin-users. On my side
all is fine and dandy; on the other users side not
so good.
In the last 3 days her side is asking for the pw
to access the mail via keychain every one min_the time in her pref to check for new mail.
I have done the 2 or 3 things suggested I could find_
deleting the keychain for her pop mail server; deleteing
the pw in mail.app pref and retyping it in; and, finally,
creating a new keychain...
...nothing seems to work!
Could someone PLEASE direct me to the thread(s) which might
resolve this?
All help is MUCH appreciated!!!
Thank you,
Mark

Try changing the automatic check for new mail from every one minute to every 5 minutes.
If there are a number of messages to download and/or the communication with the account's incoming mail server is not closed for whatever reason before the next automatic check for new mail, the Mail.app will request the password for the account instead of providing a proper error message indicating there was a problem communicating with the incoming mail server.

  • Importing mail from Gmail into new exchange account in Mail App

    Hi, all,
I have just started a new consultancy, but until now I have been using my personal Gmail account for emails. The company has just set me up with a company email address, to use with Outlook Webmail Access and the native Mail App in my Macbook Pro (running Lion - 10.7.5).
So I have about 200 emails in my personal account which I'd like to put into my company account.
I have filtered and labelled all the emails I need in Gmail, I just need a way to get them into the company account, either using the Webmail thing, or the Mail App.Can anyone tell me a better way than to individually forward each email to the new address?
    Cheers,
    Ed

Hey Dave, let me see if I understand, you want to forward a certain date range of messages to your local email client, from your virtual email client(gmail)?
As far as I know, Gmail is in beta form and has been for over a year. there is currently no feature for the purpose you specified. I have submitted a suggestion to the beta team that reads as follows
"Provide a means to select multiple emails you have archived or otherwise, from any date or date range, and send them to one or more email addresses of your choosing.
This should be an option either after a search result of your email is returned, or by manually selecting (check box) the emails you have stored, to be forwarded to any specified recipients."
I'm sorry there is no current solution for your situation at this time, outside of using your mac to access your gmail account, and individually selecting each email and choosing "forward" to sent it to your mac email account. A Mac is a very powerful machine, and you can utilize the "automator" to create a custom script to handle the task for you.
I am not sure what you are wanting to do with your emails once they are in your mac account, but if the end result is to print each one, you can do that from within gmail itself. If you just want a copy of them, they are perpetually saved in gmail also, until you reach your 2 gig limit.
I think if we knew more details about what your end result or goal is, we could come up with a means to an end in either a non-traditional, or more creative way. (not to mention you get 2gig of gmail free, and you have to pay for your storage on .mac)

  • My old hotmail emails only appears in Mail.app, but dispears from my hotmail inbox. what can I do to get them back to my hotmail inbox?

    Hi All
I am trying to using mails.app as my email manage software. once I setup my hotmail account on it. I noticed that all my hotmail old emails are missing from my web hotmail inbox, but in mails.app software. does anyone know how do I get my old emails back to my web hotmial inbox pleaes?

    Hi Shang_Li,
Unless you pay for the Hotmail premium account, the default mail access for Hotmail is POP3. By default when you "pop" a message off the mail server it removes that message from the server. That's why the messages are missing from the web interface. When you configure POP you have the option to leave a copy on the server for a specific period of time.
Here's a good URL that explains the process - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3228
If you don't want mail to be removed off the server you can just uncheck the box that's mentioned in the above article. Or if you do want to have messages removed you can specify how long they're kept on the server (viewable on the web) after you access them in Mail.

  • New ios safari and mail app bug!

after installed the new ios 7.0.2 safari crashes and is slower. even more serious is the problem with mail app which now is useless!! are they gone to fix this serious problems or I lost the most important apps of my device?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • How to block OLD email from arriving in the Mail app?

Since upgrading to iOS 5 my Gmail account keeps filling with old messages. As fast as I clear them out more arrive. There are something in the order of 10,000 messages awaiting me apparently. How do I stop this? I want only new mail, not old mail.

My user is getting notified of a "suspected spam" message via IronPort.  I have
released 2 of these messages to her so that I can see what the message body says.  It is exactly what I posted in my original post.  The from field says"From: VIAGRA (c) Official Vendor [mailto:[email protected]] or From: VIAGRA (c) Direct Distibutor [mailto:[email protected]]
I've done a search and can't find any emails to anyone in my company with Viagra in the from field.  The message body says:
Having trouble reading this email? View it in your browser
I guess I could create a Content Filter for Message Body, but would I just put "Having trouble reading this email? View it in your browser"?
Do I need to seperate each word somehow?  When putting multiple words into a content filter, how do I seperate them, or do I need to seperate them?

Don't know exactly when they are logged, but they are not generated from sending or receiving. I'm wondering what they mean, and if I should be doing anything about them. Never saw these before.
I'm not aware of any problems with Mail, +at least at the moment.+ Thanks for help..

I think it comes mainly from display of Mail, rather than send/recieve...
Behind the scenes, WebFrame objects encapsulate the content contained in a single frame element. A hierarchy of WebFrame objects is used to model an entire webpage where the root is called the main frame. There is a WebFrameView object per WebFrame object used to display the frame content. Therefore, there is a parallel hierarchy of WebFrameView objects used to render an entire page. The WebView object is also the parent view of this hierarchy. You do not need to create WebFrame and WebFrameView objects directly. These objects are automatically created when the page loads, either programmatically or by the user clicking a link.
A WebView object is intended to support most features you would expect in a web browser except that it doesn’t implement the specific user interface for those features.
    http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/DOCUMENTATION/Cocoa/Reference/WebKit/Clas ses/WebView_Class/Reference/Reference.html
But many Apple Apps use WebKit and may be trying to "call" Mail.
    Do you use RSS feeds?
What version of Mail & Safari do you have installed, iirc Safari4 uses/installed a whole new version of WebKit.

  • Old question, new spin...PS 7 won't load on my XP machine

I lost a hard drive and just want to get back up and running.  I dug up the old PS7 disk and put it in the machine.  It auto started and when I get to the window that you click the button to install PS7, eveything goes away except I get a small screeen in the lower right corner that is blank.
Anyone out there that can help will be appreciated.

    You mention RAID...
Photoshop 7.0 has limitations on the size of disk partitions it can use.  Perhaps that's in play here.  They just didn't anticipate such huge storage space back then and used Windows function calls that didn't provide enough bits of precision.

  • Can I set Mail.app to default "Permanently erase deleted messages when" to Never, for all new accounts?

When setting up new accounts in Mail.app, I generally remember to set the "Permanently erase deleted messages when:" setting to "Never", in contrast to its harsh default 1-month setting.
When I first switched to a Mac years ago (probably around the time of Leopard, or one before), I didn't know of this setting, as it's somewhat buried and not part of the add new account "walkthrough", and I permanently lost serious business mail on a self-hosted mail server, due to this, in my opinion, really stupid default setting.
At any rate, as I said, I usually remember to change this, but I recently synched accounts via iCloud to a new machine (a work machine), and for whatever reason, the setting didn't take on one account (just one account; despite being set to "never" on the primary mac from which things sync).  Same problem all over again.
So, Is there a way I can simply change the default, in the system, so that whenever a new account is created, Mail.app sets the default "erase messages when" time to "Never"?
I need to duplicate Gmail (archiving) functionality and thus far this is the best way I have of going about it; leaving those messages in trash on my regular old everyday IMAP servers.
I did run into this solution – http://support.apple.com/kb/TA22283, though it was for Mail.app in OSX 10.2 (so things have changed now), but I'm willing to bet there is a similar command, more up to date, that might do something similar?  I'd like to run such a command on all of my machines so that ALL new mail accounts created are set to NEVER permanently auto-empty the trash–that should be done when I chose, and when I chose only.

Open Mail preferences, click on the Accounts icon in the toolbar then select your mail account, click on the Mailbox Behaviours tab on the right. Set the dropdown menu at the bottom for the Never option.
However, you cannot change the default options set for a newly created account.

  • Mail.app with gmail setup question

    hello,
i have a large gmail account i have been using with mail.app for a long time and all works normally. however the "gmail style" is getting a bit out of control for me with the duplicates in sent/all mail. my processing is simple, after reading an email i archive it (so my inbox is always clean) so it means i move it to all mail. but since sent messages are also in all mail i'm pretty sure mail.app is storing these messages twice and whenever you search for messages you always have to filter through the duplicates. I think there are some newer ways to sync mail.app with gmail and i just wanted to ask what's the best solution to this common issue?
    thank you,
    rick

thanks for the reply. yes that is what i do sorry if i wasn't clear enough. actually the messages coming in are not duplicated since once i move them to All Mail there is only one copy there in All Mail. it's the sent messages since they are saved once in Sent and once in All Mail. does that make sense and how do other deal with this?
    thanks again,
    rick

  • Cannot send email with Mail app-..can't connect to AOL server anymore??

Up until today my MAIL app in my iMac let me use an email address that is from the AOL.com group (netscape.net)…I cannot send emails now because I can't get the computer to connect to the server. My iPad will….but not the desktop. I tried using a different server name; smtp.nestcape.net, which is the one I used in the iPad…but the iMac won't let me change it to that one..so back to the old smtp.aol.com……Still my MAIL app is not recognizing this or letting me connect!?!. I tried creating a new password at the wedpage of that email account.. successfully..but it has made no difference. I am stumped and have wasted half the day trying to deal with this. Anyone else have such an experience? HELP…PLEASE!

Thank you Eric for sending the links. Fortunately after I wrote this post…I don't know what happened but I filled in my mail preference settings for the umteenth time with my new email password and voila! It worked. For some reason however…now when I open the Mail App I do still get a prompt asking me if I want to use this server….and it is, of course, the one and only I have listed.!?!?! The thing that irritates me…is…that I had done NOTHING to cause a problem to begin with. I think my email account at aol (nestcape) may have been hacked and my password stolen or compromised in some way??...and perhaps that caused a glitch in my mail app??? I am no techy, but I should have started out with my intuition and changed the password first before going mental….When something like this happens it makes one feel so vulnerable.…I usually feel well secured with my lone iMac and now my new iPad…ANYWAY…thank tyou  for addressing my issue and I have bookmarked those links…for future reference which I hope I never need. Hey..is that your kitty??? She is beeeooootiful!
Take care and again, thanx~ D

  • Why won't Mail.app rules won't migrate, System Tiger to System Leopard?

    Hi,
Mail.app rules won't migrate from System Tiger to System Leopard.
    Here's what I did:
-- Clean install of System Leopard 10.5.6 onto a new Mac Pro.
-- Used Migration Assistment to move files from System Tiger to System Leopard 10.5.6.
-- Mail.app's rules failed to migrate.
So, I manually finder-copied MessageRules.plist into the proper folder to replace the newly created and empty rules set in System Leopard's mail.app, and afterwards, the rules then showed up in mail's preferences.
However, the "manually migrated" [finder copied] rules won't run.
In order to narrow the scope of the problem, I moved the former System Tiger's mail.app rules to the desktop and allowed mail.app to re-create a new rules plist file, then I created a test rule and it worked.
    Questions:
Why won't System Tiger's mail.app rules files migrate to System Leopard, and won't work upon manual migration?
What is the remedy to "properly import" the rules to the new [System Leopard based] mail.app, or to make the manually moved rules plist file work?
For what it's worth I did follow the procedures at
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread....9306&tstart=90
in order to make the messages migrate, but that failed to affect the rules.
    Thanks much,

  • IPod Touch Mail App not working

My family just had FiOS installed a couple days ago.  It's taken my brother and I a couple days to notice that the mail apps on our iPod Touches (which worked 100% with our old Verizon DSL) are no longer working (i.e. they are no longer pushing emails from our Yahoo and GMail accounts to the iPods).
I deleted my Yahoo account from my iPod and then tried to re-add it to see if that would fix things and the message I got from the iPod reads: "the imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com is not responding. check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the incoming mail server field"  My brother's Touch gave him a different message regarding his Gmail account but he's not here at the moment for me to quote it directly.  Only via the wifi at work was I able to successfully re-add my Yahoo account to the iPod.  Now I'm back home again and when I try to refresh my inbox it's just "Checking for Mail..." indefinitely.
Note that it's only the mail app that is not functioning; all the other online functionality of the iPods (Safari, Youtube, weather app, iTunes) are working 100% with FiOS.  And as I mentioned above, the mail app worked today on the wifi at work.  It's only at home with the new FiOS that the mail app on my iPod stops working.
Any ideas?  Might there perhaps be something I can tinker with in the router settings?

Me again. I've discovered the mail app works when I set the firewall from maximum to typical. Is there any way to tell it to let it work on maximum?

  • Mail app issues

This is more of a Mail app issue, and I've posted the question on that board, but I thought I'd post it here because I'm hoping some admins might have dealt with a similar issues:
Is anyone having success with clients on Network Homes using Leopard's Mail.app and an IMAP server?
Things used to work on the same client machines under Tiger, but after upgrading them to Leopard, Mail.app flat out refuses to work.
Users with portable homes seem to have better luck.
    Some symptoms:
after working fine for 15-20 seconds, preview pane gets stuck on a "Loading" message. Double-clicking the same email opens it just fine in a separate window.
auto-fill of addresses in the To: field doesn't work. (The little circle on the right just keeps spinning.)
Mail.app does not pull any new incoming messages.
Mail.app refuses to quit cleanly. Force-quitting is the only way to make it quit
Mail.app randomly needs to "Quit or Quit and Rebuild" the database.
    Thanks.

Thanks to Dan Peterka in this thread:

  • How can i make a new map on my mail? The way apple has in the manual doesn't work!

I want to make a new map for my mails, but the way tha apple gives in the manual doesn't work!

If you mean other folders then you need to create them in your email client e.g. in a browser (which you can only do in IMAP accounts, not POP account) - you can't create new folders in the Mail app itself
