Old Sample Rate Display Bug Rears Ugly Head in Logic 7

This bug has been around since Logic 4. I see it now in 7.1.1... (RANT: This drives me absolutely nuts, especially when trying to troubleshoot clocking problems.)
OK, my system = Logic 7, MOTU 424 PCI card connected to old MOTU 2408
1) Boot Logic (autoload song is saved at 48 KHz sampling rate)
2) Select File/Song Settings/Syncronization, then select the Audio tab
3) The sampling rate shown in this window is 44.1 (should say 48, yes?)
4) With that window still visible, change the sample rate to 44.1 (via Audio/Sample Rate menu item). Sample rate display doesn't change (appears correctly).
5) Now change the sample rate back to 48K. Sample rate display now shows 48K, but with about an -8% deviation.
Basically, Logic never shows the 48K sampling rate correctly in this window -- it always displays this deviation.
I can confirm this is a display bug, since a 44.1 file and a 48K file loaded into the same session will play back correctly at their respective sample rates.
Has anyone else seen this?

bump...
Would like to know if anyone else sees the above-described behavior. Cheers!

  • Sample Rate Problems going from Garage Band to Logic Express

I've downloaded the Trial Version of Logic Express. When it launched it changes the i/o sample Rate that is required by Garage Band (I'm using a digi002 i/o). The result is that garage band plays back at a fraction of it normal rate (sounds like crap).
It wasn't a problem until the trial ran out on Logic Express. I could change the sample rate back inside Logic. Hummm ... what to do? I don't see any place to change the rate in the garage band preferences or in the core audio interface. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've never had any such problem with Logic Express. GB files just load up, and work fine. Did you change anything in Logic Express? There are setting for that there, but even songs I open after I changed LE to 24 bit, work fine.
Wait, are you saying LE is changing the sample rate, and then it stays that way when you open GB? Hmmm, What do you have LE set for? I think mine is set at 24/96, but I'd have to look to be sure. But I am not using the same interface as you are. It might be something you just have to live with. Have you tried posting this in the LE7 forum? Maybe one the gurus there knows what you can do.
Oh, and I am using GB 2, not GB 1, but I am not sure that is relevant.

  • Captivate 6 - SWF Compilation Failed Error Message Rears Ugly Head

    Hi all!
I'm attempting to publish a project using Captivate 6 (with Flash Setting 10 or 11). I am publishing to my desktop, Windows 7 OS, and the message further states the thing about ActionScript and user variables having the same name or something. I've seen the message all over the forums, so I'm sure it's not new to you. I have not created any user variables, so I'm at a loss as to what to check here.
My original problem was trying to get embedded videos to publish. I kept getting this "busy" looking icon and nothing ever happened. Now I can't even get the project to publish. Any help would be appreciated. I sold my boss on this great feature, yet can't seem to get the videos to work. Thanks in advance!!

I'm was having this same problem for over a week now. I hunted through countless post with out finding a solution. It's not just with one project but all even fresh ones that have no varibles or actionscripts. I've uninstalled both Adobe Flash, and Java, and reinstalled them. I've also had a team member open my projects and was able to Preview and Publish them with no problem. I installed the same version of Java he's using with no resolve. My system is Windows XP Pro 32-bit, so it's not an issue of running the 64-bit version and switching. I have tried all the quick-fixes here with no change to the error message. My IT team has uninstalled and reinstalled the program as well.
    BUT!!
I have found a solution which I am very surprised no one has suggested yet. This is what worked for me, using Adobe's dcache.exe tool, I cleared the Adobe Captivate Cache folder, reopend the projects and BAM, they compiled.
    Good luck everyone.

  • Sample rate and audio-MIDI sync issues

Disclaimer: I did read other posts similar to this but couldn't find an answer to my specific situation. So here it is:
Logic was perfectly fine when everything was running at 44.1kHz sample rate. Then I got vocals at 48 kHz so I had to convert the sample rate in Logic Pro to match it.
Suddenly I get a slew of "Error trying to sync MIDI and audio" messages. After crying and changing the sample rate back to 44.1, then to 48, and over and over again, it finally works again.
So Logic is fine at 48kHz. But when I go to a track that's at 44.1kHz, I get the sync messages again and have to play "toggle the sample rate" for about 5-15 minutes before Logic decides whose master again.
Why is it doing this? Do I need to change Logic Pro to some kind of default settings every time I go from one song to another with a different sample rate? Or will this not be an issue if I upgrade to 7.2? (I have 7.1.0)
    PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

This is not a bug, but a nuisance.
You should upgrade to LP 7.1.1, which is way more stable than 7.1.0. No need for you to go to LP 7.2.
"Then I got vocals at 48 kHz so I had to convert the sample rate in Logic Pro to match it."
Are you certain, that in your song, in your regions, you used the newly converted 44.1kHz files, chosen from the Audio Window, and not (still) the old 48kHz files?
"So Logic is fine at 48kHz. But when I go to a track that's at 44.1kHz, I get the sync messages again"
LP doesn't do this well. And for a reason, but we'll not get into this now.
See: "Audio > Sample Rate > ..." and select one.
Perform proper conversion and make sure ALL of your audio files running in your song are congruent. Check your Audio Window and the files associated to the regions.
Set up your autoload to contain these settings. From then on, whenever you know that you will be importing other sample rates, change the settings in "Audio > Sample Rate > ..." before loading the sounds/files, if indeed you are starting from scratch. This will save you significant time.
    Been there, done that.

  • Sample Rate problem as well as CoreAudio overload and anyone using DFH?

I've only switched from Pro Tools to Logic Pro recently and am confused about a lot of things. I am running Toontrack DFH Superior with 7 audio tracks and one more software instrument track. I keep getting message about sample rate problem and something about conflict betwwen logic and external device. The only device I use is a M-Audio 49e MIDI controller and the M-Box, and I am running these on a Quad PowerMac G5 wih 4 GB RAM... I've tried to adjust the setting here and there, but none of them seem to work... Please help!

Often MIDI driver conflicts and processor overloads, or bottlenecks too. Freezing, removing old drivers, if you really are running Jaguar and if it is actually installed from those days then it is time to do a fresh install and maybe use Panther or Tiger. Panther can be found really cheap these days. As far as old drivers you don't use for any audio or MIDI interfaces you once used with your sytem, are there any? If so which ones? You may be able to direct yourself to your old driver uninstall by looking at the receipt of whichever driver you no longer use. Also, Jaguar was just really good at getting this message to come out, in my experience. Some plugins require alot of MIDI I/O or CPU power, some of NI's stuff really (momentarily) spikes on MIDI data input.

  • Sample Rate Conversion of ALL tracks at once...

Hello everyone. I've got a bit of a problem here...
I've tracked a whole song in 96k 24 bit, about 20 tracks - big mistake! For whatever reason, I get about 20% of my UAD cards used and 60% cpu usage and Logic just can't play the song, I get that "can't be processed" message. So, either my mix is going to be lame and way too raw, or I have to convert all files in the song to 44.1K. I've done many other projects in 44.1 and I get hundreds of plugins before Logic and the G5 come close to overloading.
I know I can use the Audio Window to convert the files and save them in a new audio folder, but how can I reconstruct the song? I can place the files into a new song at 44.1 and eyeball where to put them, but if one file is off by even 1 sample I get major phase issues.
Is there a way for Logic to convert all the files at once, and place them each in the exact same way as the 96k version? Kind of like a batch conversion for the entire song and arrangement.
    Thanks a bunch

Oh, I think I figured it out. I converted all of the files, saved them in a new folder, changed the sample rate of the song, saved it, closed Logic, replaced the 96k files with the 44.1 files of the same name, reopened Logic and the song, said ok when it said the files had changed, created the overviews and bingo, the same song at 44.1, plugins, automation and all!

  • 2 Firepods + LaCie FW800 External HD = Sample Rate Error

I've had my first Mac for only 3 weeks now and have found this board EXTREMELY useful in solving every little problem I've had, even with my lack of Mac & Logic experience, until this one. Thanks in advance for the help.
I'm getting an error while trying to use 2 Firepods w/ my new LaCie D2 Extreme 160gb FW800 external HD. I can record 12 tracks to the internal hd from the pods, but not if the LaCie is connected. When I connect all three I get the message "Error while trying to sync Audio & Midi, Sample Rate 40676 recognized. Check conflict between logic pro and external device." However, I can record from the built-in mic to the LaCie if the Firepods are not connected. Is there some conflict over the firewire ports? All of my sample rates (in AMS and Logic) are set at 24-bit 44.1kHz and I'm using built in audio for system I/O. Longwinded, but does anyone know what is happening here?

I have the newest Powerbook G4; the two firepods are daisy-chained into the FW 400 port and aggregated as one 20 channel device. The LaCie goes directly into the FW800 port. There are also two USB ports for the xskey and wireless mouse. The firmware is updated and I have the Presonus Firepod Control installed as well. Thanks again.

  • Display file type, bit rate, sample rate in 12.0.1?

I just upgraded to 12.0.1 running on an old dual quad core running OS10.7.5
I used to be able to customize the ID3 tag fields when displaying my music library.
One important aspect was to view the file type, bit rate, and sample rate as I'm a band/audio producer.
I can now only view those things when I "get info" on each song.  This is really painful as I'd like to see a list of all my songs and be able to easily see those 3 fields and sort by them.
Is there a way or did Apple remove this ability therefore making my experience of using iTunes be pretty much ruined?
any help would be much appreciated!  thanks...

    Symbion,
The ability is still there, but it is enabled differently.
In Songs view, click the drop-down at the upper right  Then click the next drop-down called "Show Columns," as shown below.  There, you can pick the columns you want to display, including sample rate, etc.

  • How to store the sampling rate into the header of the data file?

I want to store the data parameters such as sampling rate to the data file. Now I am using the Write Labview Measurement File VI, the data is saved, but like the sampling rate this kind of parameter is not in the file. How can I store this parameter?

If you want the sampling rate to appear in a different location of the header, then it and it's subVIs can be modified to write anyway you want. Right click on the Express VI and slect Open Front Panel. Then you have a VI that can be modified. If you want to use an unmodified Write LabVIEW Measurement File, you could use that, read the whole file back in with one of the file read functions, insert a string with the sampling rate and then write the whole thing back out again. It might be simpler though, to use Write Characters to File to create your own header and then use Write to Spreadsheet File to write the data. There is also the function Export Waveforms to Spreadsheet File on the Waveform>Waveform File I/O. This uses a slightly different format than a .lvm file. It too can be modified if you don't like the default header.

  • Remixing old tracks...sample rate?

i wanted to take some old songs/tracks (.wav files...44.1k/16bit, already dithered) and combine them (w/crossfades) to one song...
do i need to uncheck the box for "24 bit recording" and work on the files in 16 bit?
or is this option for recording new material, and not "processing"...
i wanted to use effects on the tracks, but are the plug-ins effected by this sample rate setting? or is all processing done in 32 bit or whatever Logic 9express rate is?
    i'm confused...
    thanks...

    Hi,
Logic works with 32bit internally. Also, it's no problem to upsample the files to 24 bit. The only problem occurs when reducing the bit depth. So, feel free to use 24 bit.

  • OLED display & signal sampling rate

    Dear Ni technicians
I am new to LabVIEW Embedded module. I use LabVIEW 2009 and Luminary LM3S8962 evaluation board. Recently my project need to use this board for data acquisition and display the input the waveform on the OLED display. However I find that the sampling rate is as low as around 10Hz, hence I can only get the waveform below 2Hz without aliasing. While the datasheet claim that the sampling frequency is about 16MHz. Is it because the display rate "drag" the "sampling rate"? if so, how could I improve it?
Here I attach the code and the actual result in the ppt file.
    Many thanks!

  • Restore Old LP'S AT 96000 Hz Sample Rate and 24 bit Resolution?

I restore LP vinyl albums using the above Sample Rate and Resolution.
Do I have to convert to 44100 Hz, and 14-bit before adding to my iTunes Library?

    Thanks for your help!
I guess I had better keep all of them in this format. It might make a difference if I decide to burn CD's; also, all of my back ups will be of the same format.
Do what works for you, but neither of those two things is an advantage. If you burn audio CDs, they will be downsampled to 44.1 kHz anyway. And as far as backups, iTunes does not care if different songs are in different formats, nor does any other music player that I know of.
Unless you plan on further mastering or remixing, or you really just like the higher fidelity, there is no obvious reason not to use 44/16.

  • Maximum audio sample rate and bit depth question

Anyone worked out what the maximum sample rates and bit depths AppleTV can output are?
I'm digitising some old LPs and while I suspect I can get away with 48kHz sample rate and 16 bit depth, I'm not sure about 96kHz sample rate or 24bit resolution.
If I import recordings as AIFFs or WAVs to iTunes it shows the recording parameters in iTunes, but my old Yamaha processor which accepts PCM doesn't show the source data values, though I know it can handle 96kHz 24bit from DVD audio.
It takes no more time recording at any available sample rates or bit depths, so I might as well maximise an album's recording quality for archiving to DVD/posterity as I only want to do each LP once!
If AppleTV downsamples however there wouldn't be much point streaming higher rates.
I wonder how many people out there stream uncompressed audio to AppleTV? With external drives which will hold several hundred uncompressed CD albums is there any good reason not to these days when you are playing back via your hi-fi? (I confess most of my music is in MP3 format just because i haven't got round to ripping again uncompressed for AppleTV).
No doubt there'll be a deluge of comments saying that recording LPs at high quality settings is a waste of time, but some of us still prefer the sound of vinyl over CD...

I guess the answer to this question relies on someone having an external digital amp/decoder/processor that can display the source sample rate and bit depth during playback, together with some suitable 'demo' files.

  • Why Audition CC don't show sample rate correctly?

    Hi
Using Audition CC on Mac OS X with Mackie 1220, 12-channel premium analog mixer with integrated 24-bit/96kHz Onyx FireWire I/O (Quality is amazing!)
Need to record on mono a horrible old tape recording with voice only to "hero"'s repairing audio and configure the best sample rate for recording.
My preferences Audio Hardware on Audition are:
    Device Class: CoreAudio
    Default Input: Onyx Firewire (0025)
    Default Output:  Onyx Firewire (0025)
    Clock Source: Device
    I/O Buffer size 512 Samples
    Sample Rate: 96000 Hz
Question 1: Expert said do not use more than 48000 Hz for recording voice only and use mono. Humans can't listen more than 20000 Hz... well... My recording on 96000 Hz is better than 48000 Hz and I'm not Superman... and can hear better difference with 96000 Hz recording. Don't know why.
Question 2: Why after selecting Audio Hardware preferences to 96000 Hz after recording the File Panel said my track is 48000 Hz Mono 32 (Float)? My hardware can record at 96000 Hz and preferences is set correcty at that Bit Depth then WHY don't appears 96000Hz on File Panel after recording and instead appears 48000Hz?
Question 3: Don't understand the differences of my 24-bit/96kHz Onyx FireWire I/O and 32 bit (Float) of Audition. If I record using 24 Bits (Maximum bit depth of my hardware) why appears 32 bit (Float)? My recording are 24 Bits or 32 Bits?
    Thanks :-)
    Tom

CS6 has a serious issue with saving files correctly. The program is asuming that 48kHz is the maximum you will be using and in my case it saved a 96kHz recording with a 48kHz internal header. The file size is consistent with all my previous 24/96 recordings and it sounds just fine interpreted correctly - but played an octave low in frequency and tempo it really sucks unless you are a Blue Whale..
I can play it "interpreted" as a 192kHz file just fine, and it now sounds 100% right, but I cannot save it correctly. I have yet to find out how to recover because when I use "convert Sample Type" it saves it with the same mistake - the wrong sample rate off by the same ratio again.
It is a program flaw - so at this point you cannot record with sample rates higher than 48kHz in CS6 and depend on your file being OK.
Tom the reason you can tell the difference between sample rates is that your hearing has two dimensions, frequency and timing, I sure hope you can't hear the bats at night but I expect that you can tell a good drummer from a bad drummer. In addition there is also the issue (dimension) of bit-depth - instrument decay and acoustic space occupies the time space between notes and if it is not sampled at the right time and place or rounded off to the nearest digital digit you have a problem.
You all know that some humans have perfect pitch and others dont, this gives you some indication how much we each differ. Some people have even learned to use echolocation; the best know cases being blind people because they are not supposed to be able to find their way and know where they are. You can learn underlying concepts of this little discussed aspect of human hearing here and hit the university libraries for the rest. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_echolocationhttp://
SteveG's comment are only true in one of the three dimensions - frequency range. We all hear about the same for starters anyway.
The second dimension, timing, is what provides spatial information. Coarse sampling effects this as well. My most recent experience was when transcribing some old casette tapes - when I experimented with FLAC and WMA lossless I found that they din NOT downsample well. Spatial information was significantly deminished be that aucoustic or studio work. Needless to say this surprised me because I was auming that I could drop the samplerate to 48kHz as soon I was done editing and save a lot of drive space. For now I made some excellent 48kHz/24 bit mp3s (320) because they altered the sound the least.
Now you know some additional reasons why older guys like me who have lost the high end and a lot of decibel as well can still tell the difference:we have good sense of timing.
Anyway - I need to learn how to edit my files to reset the sample frequency header - real fast. I just recorder a fabulous Madrigal group for 2 hours and my files are lost in the vortex.
