Old Satellite 3000-514 - Problems Opening/Energy

Hey there!
Thanks for the possibility to get support first off! :)
I got an old laptop here, a S3000-514, with a pentium III, it looks a bit like the Satellite 1200.
I tried to disasseble it with this guide for the 1200, to clean it up in the first place:
http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-1200/take-apart-laptop-1.htm
1) *Solved*
I still can't find a manual online for this laptop. (which i dont really need now anymore)
2) The second problem I have is, that, as i have read other users get as well, when I start the book up with the battery pack, it still empties the battery pack and turn off then.
When removing the battery pack, I can start the book up with the "!"-Button. It doesnt work with the normal power-button. But the book then randomly turns off after 20 seconds to 5 minutes.
I appreciate any input!
Thanks in advance.
Greetings

Hi
Regarding the first question about the manual;
If you are looking the user manual then you can download it from the Toshiba support homepage. But you will not find any disassemble manuals on the Toshiba page because such docs are not for public usage!!!
Regarding the question about battery;
As I understood your message youve got some problems with the battery charging.
I dont know how old you battery is but fact is that after a longer period of time the battery loses the performance and finally it must be replaced.
My battery is about 5 years old and I can use it only for about 30sec-1min. Then the battery is empty and the notebook shuts down
Hope this helps a little bit

  • How to replace CMOS on Satellite 3000-514?

My laptop won't boot anymore (though the power lights come on) and I suspect the CMOS needs replacing.
How do I open and replace it in my Satellite 3000-514?
I tried dismantling the back, but got stuck.
    Any help?
    Thanks.

To be honest I don't think CMOS battery is responsible for this.
I had old Tecra notebook and I didn't use it last 3 years. When I wanted to start it there were no problem, just message that CMOS battery is empty were shown. When you connect notebook to the AC power supply after 48 hours the CMOS battery should be loaded again.
In your case it is probably some hardware related issue but it is not easy to say what can be wrong there. Maybe is BIOS corrupted, maybe is CPU defective. Who knows?

  • Satellite 3000-514: How to activate Intel WLan 2200BG hardware button

    Hi.
I have a Toshiba Satellite 3000-514 and an Intel Centrino Mini-PCI WLan card. (Intel???® PRO/Wireless 2200BG) Running win-XP and Ubuntu on it.
Is there a solution to sidestep the problem, that the wlan-software wants me to push a hardware-button to activate wireless lan, that my Laptop just don't have?
In a german forum someone mentioned solving the problem by using "easy button", a program I already downloaded from Toshiba.
But you can only choose .exe files to be connected to a button. Is there an .exe file to make the software think I pushed that not existion wlan-hardwarebutton?
    *sigh* Help!?
Thanks in advance. Sorry for my bad english.

    Hm,
sounds tricky. I have no software solution for you, but I have an alternative solution for you.
Since you are a german guy, you can check/read this:

Its an atheros card like I have in my Tecra 9100. So, I had many many problems with intel card since they require a full working centrino
platform to work and so most of these cards need a "hardware" switch (in your case a button) to work.
With the atheros card you dont have these problems with switch/button since they are working anytime without need of switches or buttons.
The disadvantage is that you cannot disable the card for power saving purposes.
So I hope I could help you. Would appreciate some feedback. :)
    Nice weekend.

  • Where can I purchase a Satellite 3000-514 motherboard?

I need to replace the system board (?), motherboard (?) on my Toshiba Satellite S3000-514.
Question: Where can I go to purchase the motherboard?
Question 2: How much in sterling can I expect to pay?
    Thank you.

    Hi
I found this website with the motherboard for a Satellite 3000 series but it seems that the Satellite 3000-514 is not listed.
    http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Toshiba,Laptop,Part,K000816560.aspx
Im not 100% sure but I think the 3000 series was delivered with the same motherboard.
But before buying anything you should ask the Toshiba authorized service partner for a details. The guys should be able to order also a compatible board directly from the Toshiba.
I think you are on the safe side if you ask the service provider for the opinion.
But as you can see the motherboard is expensive and possibly you could find a second hand board.

  • Max HDD Size for Satellite 3000 -514 with BIOS 2.30

    Hi folks !
What is the largest HD size notebook recognizes with BIOS 2.30.
I found no FAQ information ragarding this BIOS version.
    Thx for your help.

    Hi
The Satellite 3000-514 supports the HDD sizes up to 30GB.
You need a HDD 2.5", 9.5mm support bus master IDE, Ultra 33/66 synchronous DMA
Bigger HDD sizes are not supported and I suppose the BIOS will not recognize it.

  • Satellite 3000-514: Need FL inverter part number

    Hi,
I am looking for an inverter for my toshiba satellite 3000-514, because my display is almost dark. Does anybody know where I can buy/order it or what the product number is?
    Thx
    arne

    Hi
Well, a friend of mine has ordered some parts from the Toshiba service partner.
I assume you can also order the FL inverter from the ASP in you country.
As far as I can remember the FL inverter is not very expensive. But do you know how to change it?? Do you have enough experience to replace it??
I think its a very risky procedure because the whole screen must be removed. And you know; the screen is a one of the most expensive parts on the notebook.
I think if you dont be any technician so ask someone who has more experience in such reparation procedures. The best way is to ask the service guys.

  • Keyboard Satellite 3000-214 - Ctrl-key not working

    Hi,
I've started my old Satellite 3000-214 Notebook and suddenly my Ctrl-key did not work anymore.
I've already tried to clean the keyboard by unmounting all keys from it and cleaning the foils, without success.
Can anyone tell me where I can get a suitable keyboard from (I live in germany)?
Does it has to be an original Toshiba keyboard or can it be from an other manufacturer?
How can I remove the keyboard from the laptop? Do I have to open the case or is it possible to get it out with a screwdriver or something?
    Thx for any hint!
    Best regards.
    Ting

    Hi
You should use the original Toshiba keyboard which is supported and compatible with this notebook.
All parts and devices you can purchase from the Toshiba authorized service partner in your country. The full database with worldwide ASP you can find on the Toshiba European support page.
Usually if you want to remove the keyboard you have to remove firstly the thin cover above the keyboard.
There you will find two screws which secure the keyboard. After removing of these two screws you will be able to put out the keyboard.
But be careful; the keyboard is connected with the flat cable to the motherboard.

  • Satellite 3000 screen vertical line problem

my laptop is Satellite 3000 , it got vertical line problem now, i wanna use a outside CRT screen to replace the current damaged LED screen.
I have tried to use FN-F5 swap key, but it is still doesn't work, i tried to log in the system to check it, (the system (windows xp) is normal), but i can't see anything because the screen is black, it won't get in the system even if i connected it in to the LAN, because the laptop network function configuration is not allow connect with internet,( i did ghost before it completely damaged), the question is :
1, do i need to configure something so as to it can use outside screen in windows XP system? or just use FN-F5 swap key?
2, how will i do next step if i wanna use the outside screen ?
    thx a lot

    Hello
If the notebook is preinstalled with all Toshiba designed tools and utilities FN+F5 key combination should work. Of course the external monitor should be connected properly.
If you are missing some tools FN+F5 key combination will not work.
What I want to know is what happens exactly when you use FN+F5 key combination? Stays the LCD screen black or switch to the right picture again? As far as I know if you use FN+F5 key combination and LCD on the notebook stays black that means the signal is send to external device but if the monitor is not connected properly or there is some contact problem you will not see the content on external monitor.
Believe me it is not easy to say what is wrong there but if possible try to test it with different monitors. Satellite 3000 is pretty old notebook model and maybe is RGB port defective.

Hi,since my update to OSX Yosemite,I have problems opening DW and AI CS6. A message with update to old Java SE-6 is displayed?Thx

You need to install Java SE 6 to run those programs. There has been quite a bit of discussion here about that. Something at one of these links should get you going...

  • Laptop Toshiba  Satellite 3000 - problem graphic device

    Hi,
I have installed Solaris 10 on Toshiba Satellite 3000, but it was able to install resolution 640x480/60Hz only. How can change it to higher resolution?

Look into the kdmconfig command, if you're talking about the GUI that is. Solaris has a nasty habbit that if you configure XSun during the installation it'll "drop back" to the X.org server. kdmconfig can change that again if desired.

  • USB Ports on 3 month old Satellite C655-S5049 do not work-even after Recovery to "Out-of-Box" state

Hello - Hoping someone can help with another suggestion- it doesn't look good.
Both USB ports on my wife's 3 month old Satellite C655-S5049 are non-functional with any USB device. Flash drives, wireless mouse, and external hard drive (powered) that all work on all of my other computers, do not work in either of this laptop's USB ports.
This problem seems to have developed gradually, and became noticeable previously as non-responsiveness in the wireless mouse, which gradually became a concern, with the computer appearing to freeze or lock-up - probably because of the number of times the mouse was clicked on shortcuts and executables before something happened.
The ports are now completely "dead"- no recognition of anything inserted once the computer is up and running.
There appears to be a thermal component involved, since I was able to get the devices recognized and working for up to a minute when booting the computer with the devices in the ports after it had been off for several hours after I did the default state recovery. The flash drive and mouse were recognized, drivers loaded message, but they then went to "unplugged" before I could get the cursor moving. I was able to access the flash drive, since I did it as soon as the driver loaded, but then it disappeared ("un-plugged" itself in the driver loaded message box). I can also get them recognized from this COLD boot state when I immediately plug them in once Windows 7 (64) loads, but they quickly disappear. If I wait a few minutes before re-booting, they flash during the Windows boot, but drop-out before it completes. If I wait 3-4 hours to re-boot, they flash (are recognized) for about a minute (Windows completely loads), but then they drop out.
I tried all of the suggestions on this board (and others) before doing a Recovery to Factory Default state. I have tried it with the original version 1.20 Bios, and with the version 1.50 Bios update. All driver updates have been downloaded and installed. The laptop does occasionally lock-up at the Toshiba screen during boot, and is verrrry slow in some operations (2 hours to do the recovery discs). The only other noticeable problem (at this time) is an occasional drop-out of wireless (Atheros AR9285) connectivity, which I have been blaming on the router since it is sporadic and infrequent (not consistent with the thermal argument). These problems are all after the Factory Default State recovery operation, so my assumption is that they are hardware based.
Any suggestions for a solution? This is a standard spec Satellite C655-S5049 that I was considering adding another 2GB memory to, but now I am unsure of its' future. A laptop cooler that runs from a USB port seems counter-productive.
I am technically capable, so you can be much briefer in your response than I have been in trying to fully detail the problems. This isn't the NVidia chip, but it does bring back memories of laptops past.
    Thanks for any help,
    G

I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME MODEL. I GOT THE SERVICE
MANUAL AND I'M THINKING TO OPEN IT AND SEE IF THERE'S SOME PHYSICAL BAD CONNECTION
INSIDE. BUT LIKE YOU SAID.  IT'S ONLY THREE MONTHS OLD.!!! I DON'T WANT TO RUIN THE WARRANTEE.
BUT THIS IS VERY FRUSTATING. I WANDER IF TOSHIBA DOES THIS ON PURPUSE.!!! KEEP IN TOUCH AND

  • DVD drive does not recognize some media on Satellite A30-514

I own a Satellite A30-514 laptop with Microsoft xp OS. Just lately, some DVD's (not games) will not play from the drive. some do some don't. It is not a region problem - they are all region 2. Windows does not read the disc when it is inserted and does not register a disc in the drive when I show 'my computer'. CD's all play normally. Could this be a driver (internal) issue or is my DVD CD combo just too old now?
    Thanks Marie.

    Hi
To give you some precise answer it will be interesting to know which DVDs are not readable. Meaning of word 'some media' is to general and not helpful to understand the problem.
Satellite A30 is pretty old notebook model and it is possible that ODD functionality is not good anymore. You can try to clean the lens.

  • Please Help: Cannot open Energy Saver on iBook

When I click on the Energy Saver preference pane on my iBook (dual USB) G3 (running OS 10.3.9, with a 20 GB hard drive with 13 GB of space left), I get the message "Preferences Error, Could not load Energy Saver." This just suddenly started happening a couple of days ago.
I have searched this forum as well as Google and have found no information about this problem. After I opened Disk Utility while booted from my external hard drive, I ran First Aid and Repair Permissions on the iBook. No change in the problem with Energy Saver.
Here are the additional steps I've taken:
    1. As a test, I created a new user account and logged in under that account. Still got the same message when trying to open Energy Saver.
    2. I attached my iBook to my iMac G5 via firewire cable and booted my iBook into target disk mode. Then I ran Disk Warrior and TechTool Pro on the iBook. Both programs gave the iBook a clean bill of health.
    3. Via the Find command, I searched my hard drive for any files with "energy" in the title. No hits.
    4. I went to my ~/Library/Preferences Folder and found the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file. Removed that file, restarted the iBook. Still could not access Energy Saver.
    5. I put the System Preferences application into a folder called Sys Prefs Old. Dragged the System Preferences application from my iMac into the Applications folder on my iBook. Opened this new System Preferences application. Clicked on Energy Saver pane. Still got the message "Could not load energy saver."
    6. Inserted OS X 10.3 install disc into iBook. Used Pacifist to re-install just the System Preferences application. The application was an older version than the one that had been giving me problems. Opened this application and clicked on Energy Saver pane. Still got the message "Could not load energy saver."
I'm at my wit's end. I can no longer change any of my energy settings on my iBook. If anyone can make a suggestion, I would certainly appreciate it. If your suggestion has to do with using Terminal, please talk me through it in baby talk because I've never used Terminal.

It may help to look in your log files to find out why your applications are quitting.
The simplest way to look at log files is to use Console.
Open the Console application from /Applications/Utilities. It will default to showing the "console.log" and possibly the "system.log". Use the File menu if necessary to get both these logs open, and use the Broom to Clear both windows.
Now try to open the Energy Saver preference pane and see what appears in either of these windows. Copy and paste it here.
You may see a message saying "Crash report written to <pathname of crash.log>". Click on the "Logs" icon at the top left in the tool bar. Then, depending on the <pathname of crash.log> in your message, look under either ~/Library/Logs or /Library/Logs by clicking the disclosure triangle, then click the disclosure triangle for "CrashReporter".
Find the crash log corresponding to your message and select it. It will open at the end of the log. Look back for the last line of asterisks in the log, then post everything after that to the end of the log.

  • Can not remove BIOS password on Satellite 3000-504

    Hi,
I cleared BIOS password in Toshiba Satellite 3000-504 to upgrade BIOS on this computer. So I entered BIOS > entered old password > enterd twice new blank password (2 x enter) and after this I reset computer.
After restart computer again asked me to provide password, but the old password and blank password wasn't correct. And now I can't enter BIOS and start computer.
Any suggestions what was happened and what can I do right now?
    Regards

I dont know what was happen but one is sure: you have big problem now. Please contact authorized service in your country and let them remove BIOS password. It will cost you but unfortunately you do not have other choice.

  • Satellite 3000-X11: Four beeps at start-up, blank screen

    Hi folks,
A friend has given me a laptop to try and fix. It's a Toshiba Satellite 3000-X11.
Sometimes it works fine. Starts up like normal.
Sometimes, fairly randomly, it will not start. In this instance nothing will come up on the screen at powerup. The fan will kick in. The screen is black and there are four beeps. About 1 per second. It then sits there. On, but half dead. Can hear fan from time to time.
I've read messages on the net that suggest this is a hardware failure of some kind. What I'd like to know is if there is any easy way to know what hardware has failed. Nearly all the messages I read talked about three beeps. This is four.
Makes no diff if I am running it from AC or battery.
I have no idea what makes it start working again.
I suspect (just a suspicion) that it tends to stop working after it has been moved around (i.e. picked up and moved to another desk etc.).
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Also, is there a Toshiba diagnostic tool I can download and run that will test the machine out?
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

Coincidentally, I had a similar problem last night on my old S3000 laptop. I popped out a PCMCIA card while the laptop was powered up and it just hung. I rebooted it, and I got a few series of beeps and nothing else.
After a lot of swearing. I thought I remembered something about holding down keys at power up on laptops to get them working. I powered down, pressed and held the "esc" key, then powered up. The laptop recovered, displaying a "safe boot" mode. I selected "boot from hard disk" and it seems to have been fine since...
    Hopefully that might help.
