Old Scanned PDF's cannot be read, OCR won't work.

All of our company scanned in documents cannot be read by XI Pro, they have all been scanned in as PDF's in the past. When attempting to use the OCR tool it freezes. All other versions of Acrobat can read/show these files why can't the most current?
I will not be willing to convert each individual file to be read and will cancel under the 30day terms if there's no reasonable response.

What if you do a low level reformat of the iPod's hard drive using the instructions in this Apple support document to try and correct the issue?

  • Hp scan application cannot detect the OCR software

Since I converted to Windows 8.1 I am unable to scan the document to my computer from the printers control panel, only from the HP software.   When I attempt to scan from the control panel I receive an error "hp scan application cannot detect the OCR software check the computer screen for more details" but nothing pops up.   Is there a fix?

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @SJChamber !
I saw your post about how you are now seeing a message stating "hp scan application cannot detect the OCR software check the computer screen for more details", when attempting to scan to your Windows 8.1 system.
    I will try to help!
I am thinking that the full feature software may not be fully installed on your system, as the OCR software is included in the software.
In having said that, try downloading the full driver and run through the installation here:
HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver
Try scanning from the printer software afterwards, and also try a scan from the front panel of your printer.
    Let me know the results!

  • Some pdf files cannot be read by eReaders other than Acrobat

I have several books in pdf format.  All, including the attached, read perfectly in Acrobat and all, except the attached, read perfectly in various eReaders.  The attached file, however, cannot be read by any reader other than Acrobat and cannot be imported into Calibre and converted to any other format.
What is unique about this file?
I can not find any way to attach the file.  Please post instructions.
    Using Windows 8, Adobe Reader X 10.1.8,

You cannot attach PDF files to the forum, only images (e.g. screen shots) and not at all in an email reply.
To share a PDF put it on acrobat.com, your own web site, or a file sharing site, and reply with the URL.
What does Adobe Reader X say for Document Security (under File > Properties)? The SECURITY METHOD is the key information. You are quite correct that some PDF files use security methods which lock them to Acrobat.

Actually...I post this in the wrong place..sorry
iMac, eMac. They sound similar in every language but English! I'll get the Hosts to move this to the eMac section so you don't have to repost.
The good news is we have two eMacs in the family: one the first generation; one the last.
When you get the messages, what ports are you using? It is fairly normal for a flash drive to fail when plugged into a port on the keyboard (low-powered port). If you used a port on the right side of the eMac case, then it should work.
Have you experienced any other odd symptoms with the computer? Unexpected freezes, video defects, or no video, etc? I ask because a fair number of 1.25Ghz eMacs had near-fatal logic board problems. As odd as the symptoms of the logic board problems seemed to be, it would no longer surprise me if it affected USB. If you are seeing other problems than this, I can post a list of serial numbers that Apple said contains the affected computers.

  • Printing to PDF (custom page size) from AutoCAD Won't Work Anymore

The DWG to PDF driver provided with AutoCAD 2013 will not save my artwork to a high enough resolution for me to use.  See attached screen shots of the PDF's printed by AutoCAD's DWG to PDF driver.
The only PDF print driver that I have found that will is the Adobe PDF driver provided with my Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro software.  See attached screen shot of the PDF printed by the Adobe PDF driver.  HOWEVER, I can only print to a standard paper size and I MUST print to a custom page size.  When I try printing to a custom page size it will no longer let me save the PDF.  It simply skips the save window.  It used to work fine up until this past week, but when I came into work on Monday morning it stopped working.  I cannot for the life of me figure out why it won't work now!
DWG to PDF set to Maximum Quality (400 DPI)
DWG to PDF set to Custom 1200DPI
Adobe PDF set to Custom 4000DPI

Try opening the DWG file in AutoCAD 2013 and changing its file format to an older version of Autocad (i.e, 2010/2011/2012).

  • OCR won't work because too low dpi, but clearly is very high DPI

    Hello,
I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro version 8 on Windows 7 64 bit. I have a document which won't OCR--it comes up with error messages saying the pages are less than 72 dpi. I can't find a way to verify the actual dpi of this file. However, if I zoom in to 6400% on the text, it stays looking very clear and clean--almost as if it were vector text already. I have trouble believing the resolution is really below 72 dpi or too low for OCR to make sense of it.
    Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Dan

Thanks. I wasn't familiar with the pre-flight too. I double clicked on
"list bitmaps below 300 dpi"  - result: no problems found
"list images below 100 ppi" - results: no problems found
I can't seem to find any other place to check for resolution. With my limited knowledge both of these results would seem to indicate that I shouldn't be receiving the error--and then of course there is the fact that the text resolution is visually excellent at the highest possible zoom--which makes me think that OCR should be working regardless of what the preflight tool says.
Any further advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • Are scanned PDF files searchable without using OCR?

I want to scan documents into PDF format and would like to be able to search and index content, is there a way to do this without running OCR against it first?  If not is there a product or iFilter that can do OCR and index the context without actually changing the format of the document itself?

It is not possible to search a raster graphic for text, since that is what a scan is before it is OCRd. It is possible to OCR without changing the format of the document. Acrobat has the capability to insert the characters behind the graphic rather than replace the graphic.

  • Pdf documents cannot be read by others

For the last month or so, word documents that I have convered to pdf cannot be opened/read by my clients. They either cannot read them at all or receive a message to install a new version of adobe. I end up having to send them word documents instead. In other words, whatever online software Adobe is using to convert documents ends up producing documents in a pdf format that is not generally readable.

This document, for instance. I converted this from word to pdf using my subscription. I am told by people I send it to that they either cannot read it without installing a new fonts package, or that it just opens as blank pages (no prompt). Either way, I cannot send documents to my clients that forces them to install new software.
    Many thanks, Sabine

  • Scanning PDF to computer after installing windows 10 not working

Equipment: Pavilion 23 and HP Officejet 6600 (all in one) After installing Windows 10 the printer/scanner can not send (scan to computer) a PDF.  The HP 6600 screen DOES show the computer under the "Scan to" list then once pressed it briefly says "accessing computer" with the HP logo and a spinning thing around it, then the next screen shows a list of options for document format (PDF is the first one and the one I regularly used before Windows 10).  Choosing "Save as PDF" brings up a "Confirm Start Scan" screen, pressing "Start Scan" brings up "Prepairing to scan" with the HP logo and spinning thingy again then the next screen, "Scan Unsuccessful" and below that "The scan could not be completed due to one or more of the following issues - Connection to the computer is lost - The scan application on the computer is currently in use - OCR application is not installed on the computer - See the computer monitor for details"  no details are on the monitor? I have tried the solutions listed here like S**/scannow (DOS ADMIN level,  100% ok) ,  also the "dependent settings" I know this is a Windows 10 issue because it (the HP 6600) has worked flawlessly until this "Upgrade".  Yes, I uninstalled the driver, yes I downloaded HP docotor, I have tried everyting on this forum and then some (i think?)please helpthank you for your wisdom OH great one(s) Other than this A huge thumbs up to Windows 10!!!! Nice work guys/gals over at Microsoft!!

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I noticed that you cannot scan with your HP Officejet 6600 after upgrading to Windows 10. I am happy to help!  To verify the printer's hardware is working properly, are you able to make copies from the scanner glass? Copying a Multipage Original in Order (Collating). In the meantime, please try the steps in this guide, A 'No Computer Detected' or 'Connection Error' Message Displays When Scanning for HP Officejet 6600 e-All-in-One and 6700 Premium e-All-in-One Printer Series (H711), and follow the steps for Windows 8, as they will work on Windows 10.  Hope this guide helps, and hope to hear from you soon!  “Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.”

  • Scan feature on 8600 All-in-One won't work

My scan feature on my 8600 stopped working. It was working fine last week. It prints and faxes fine. When I try to do a new scan, my laptop says it is trying to establish connection. But a connection is never established. So the scan fails. I'm running Windows 8.1. I use the scan feature regularly for my job. So I need a quick solution or unfortunately I'm off to buy another printer. Thanks.

  • Adobe Reader XI won't work with IE. It is not DEP-compatible.

    How do I fix this?

I have IE 11. When I attempt to read or access a PDF from within IE, I get an error message saying 'Internet Explorer has stopped working". After some time, the IE tab comes up as "Webpage error" with a message that "Internet Explorer has closed this page to protect your computer". If you open up the more detailed information, it says "Windows Data Execution Prevention detected an add-on trying to use system memory incorrectly...."
I have checked for updates on IE11 and for Acrobat Reader 11. Both appear to be current. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Reader XI, and checked again for updates. Still having the same problem.
I have tried to disable DEP for Acrobat Reader under advanced settings. It won't let me do it.

Online subscription Acrobat - when combining files, a scanned portrait-orientation PDF file is reformatted to landscape orientation, clipping contents at the bottom of the page. Is this a bug, or can I fix this?

One solution was to take the scanned PDF, open it in Reader, and "Print-to-PDF" it again but selecting Landscape orientation instead of automatic orientation.
