Old Tapes to Macbook

Hi. I have a question about recording camcorder tapes to my recently purchased Macbook. I really no nothing about this kind of stuff and would appreciate any help. I have four different kind of tapes: Sony 8mm Video Cassette MP120, Panasonic SHG, Sony 30 VHSC, and Maxell Hi8 MP. We have 2 camcorders. One is a Samsung SCL860 8mm Camcorder Hi8. The other is a Panasonic PV-L55OD Palmcorder. If it is possible to get any of these tapes onto my mac, what would I have to do/buy? Thanks for any help.

This unit is simply an interface. It will not record anything. It will however convert analog video (rca connector or S-Video connector on a VCR/VTR or camcorder with analog connector) to firewire DV connection which in turn is connected to your computer / mac via a 4 pin to 6 pin FW cable which may be provided with the unit in most cases (if not you will need to purchase separately a reliable 4-6 pin FW cable).
Your computer's HD records the data via iLife apps or pro apps like FCP.
Yes the ADS unit works fine (for small projects) but the longer the video project the more you may notice audio and video out of sync. Units that don’t have this issue as often are Canopus and Sony DA2 or DA1

It looks like your NVIDIA graphic is damaged. If you need your computer now, you can fix the computer downloading gfxCardStatus and selecting the option to use only the integrated graphic, so that kernel panic won't appear anymore. Note that you won't be able to use the NVIDIA graphic, so the graphic performance may be worse than with this graphic.
Of course, that's a temporary fix, because you should take the computer to an Apple Store as soon as possible to get the Mac repaired. As the NVIDIA graphic is not soldered, the repair won't be expensive

The school just upgraded these MacBooks to OSX Mavericks and when i try to open Minecraft it won't let me. It says no jdk installed. I also try to install Java SE runtime but half way through the Software Update it says cant download software because of network problem but I'm connected to the internet and i can browse stuff just fine. Can any one help with my problems. P.S. I don't know the administrator password or stuff like that. And yes we are allowed to play games and stuff on these laptops but only at home not at school so don't tell me i need to focus on school and not games.

Since you updated the operating system, it is probably Minecraft is missing certain files that ware remove or are not longer comparable with the new version of the OSX. what I recommend, is to check is there is an update for Minecraft and install that. If there is not update available, probably the best thing will be reinstalling Minecraft. Hope this will help you.

If your Apple ID was changed from your old account, you may have to change it back to your old account to be able to sign out and then change it back after that is done. Take a look at the article below for more information.

thanks for your help. You may right that Adobe Photoshop is not a tidy programm. But it is the only of my applications that make problems after using the MA. Anf for what the MA ist made for?
But i still have a question. Is this cc-cleaner as well working for Photoshop Elements 8.0? I tried the link but at the second step "Uninstall Creative Cloud or Creative Suite applications" I do not find at the Application folder the Utitily folder.

How did you migrate? Unless you cloned over a complete system you just made a bunch more trouble for yourself. You can never, never migrate PSE with the migration assistant. PSE is not a tidy package app in accordance with the apple developer guidelines. It strews stuff all over your hard drive and puts things in places the MA isn't programmed to look. Now you will have a lot of manual cleaning up to do. You must always reinstall PSE from scratch.
First download and run this:

Then you can manually remove the bits that got copied over. You can't use spotlight to help with this; it's programmed to ignore these kinds of files. In addition to what's in the applications folder, you will need to go to the library at the top level of your hard drive>Application Support>Adobe and remove anything in there, as well as your username>library>preferences. Then you can reinstall from your original media.

Recording audio from my old tapes!

A request from all Mac users:
Dear friends I need to record my old tapes to my computer and I am not familiar with sound/audio applications and the process itself.
Could someone be kind and guide me as to which application should I use and perhaps how (basic level is fine)?

Transfer vcr tapes to macbook pro

Does anyone know how to transfer vcr tapes to the mac? I have some 20year old tapes of my kids I want to edit on the mac, but not sure how to get them on the hard drive. Also would the editing be done with Imovie? I dont have Finalcut. Not sure if I need it.

You need to convert your video to DV if you want to edit it in iMovie (or Final Cut, for that matter).
There are services that can do this for you. If you want to do it yourself (which I recommend over the services), you will need an analog-digital converter like the Canopus ADVC-110. You would connect your VCR's video and audio outputs to the converter and connect the converter to your Mac via Firewire. Then play the video in your VCR and capture it in iMovie.
If you have a miniDV camcorder that supports analog-digital passthrough (many do) then you could use the camcorder as the converter. (Connecting the VCR outputs to the camcorder a/v input and the camcorder to your Mac via FireWire. You don't need to record to the tape in the miniDV camcorder, just use the camcorder in the middle as the converter.)

Where can i find protection cases for the old model of macbook air?

I have an older macbook air, i think it's the 1st model of macbook air, it has a different shape than the current one. I would like to find a hard case for it, in a nice color, or I think you can find some that are like stickers you put on the computer.
But everything i see in the apple store or ebay or amazon fits the new models.
Does anyone know of a store online that has accessories for old models of macbook air?

Sometimes there are problems.
Somethings to try but probably won't help....
1. Repair Disk Permissions
2. Startup in Safe mode by holding down the "Shift" key....
3. Reset the P Ram by holding down the "Command/Option/P/R" keys at the same time...
The above are standard items to do on any Mac from time to time.
I repair permissions at least once a month....
The other 2 periodically as they do straighten things out when they get out of whack....

In a moment of madness I used an old tape which I had previously used for DV. New recording about 8 minutes in is in HDV. The Apple won't recognise the HDV portion of the recording, ie., the bit I want. Anyone got any ideas please?

You don't need a card to down convert HDV. The cameras and decks will do it. You setup the camera or deck to down convert to DV, and capture using the easy setup for DV... Even if you've shot HDV... But that said, I think you might end up with better results if you capture HD, then down convert the final sequence to SD for recording back... Just seems to me the old rule is still true. Edit natively until the very end when you must either compress for a DVD or web stream, and in your case, for a tape delivery.

My 2-year-old randomly tapped some keys on my Macbook and now the volume keys at top don't work. For example, if I press F12, the dashboard pops up, whereas previously it used to increase the volume. HELP! I'm a techno nitwit - how do I get it to work as it used to?

I did this myself recently while playing around with the settings - go to System Preferences and in there somewhere will be a setting saying - " use all function keys as standard function keys" or something like that. You need to deslect or say "no" and then it will work as it used to!
