Old thinkpad models´ info

What happened to the drivers & support part in the Lenovo web page?. It does not find any quick patch model anymore.
Are T60/R60 and below unsupported now?.
I need to now what screen resolution do an 9462-A12 r60 and 2623-D7U t60 have,in order to do some reparations.

Hello, Im new to this website. Im having issues with my Macbook. I have the old 2009 model Macbook and it is our schools macbook. The school just upgraded these MacBooks to OSX Mavericks and when i try to open Minecraft it won't let me. It says no jdk installed. I also try to install Java SE runtime but half way through the Software Update it says cant download software because of network problem but I'm connected to the internet and i can browse stuff just fine. Can any one help with my problems. P.S. I don't know the administrator password or stuff like that. And yes we are allowed to play games and stuff on these laptops but only at home not at school so don't tell me i need to focus on school and not games.

Since you updated the operating system, it is probably Minecraft is missing certain files that ware remove or are not longer comparable with the new version of the OSX. what I recommend, is to check is there is an update for Minecraft and install that. If there is not update available, probably the best thing will be reinstalling Minecraft. Hope this will help you.

  • Re-Usage of SSD in more recent Thinkpad model

    Hi Community,
I've got the following situation: My W530's SSD broke down two weeks ago, so I asked my administrator to send me a new one with Win7 and company-related stuff pre-installed (I'm working remote). He said he didn't have a W530 on site, but he could install it on a W520 and send over the SSD, all I would need to do is to run System Update to fix all the drivers. Because I needed a replacement quickly, I agreed. The machine seems to work alright for basic operations, but CPU-heavy stuff i.e. Photoshop doesn't perform well. When I compare some benchmarks (Apache Bench, simple HTTP Calls to a WebServer) to my colleagues way older W520 I'm just hitting 40% of the performance.
Does anyone have experience in reusing a HDD in more recent Thinkpad model? Or is that a bad idea at all? Any ideas how to fix this installtion?
    Thanks a lot
    Sebastian

You don't have to worry about using a older HDD or SSD, it will work, slower, but it will work. I would also do it.
Make sure to buy a SSD between 256-512GB. A 256GB SSD lasts twice as long as a 128GB SSD.
A W520 can't be that slow. 10% performance difference at most on the CPU side, and they use exactly the same GPUs as far as I know.
Don't they sell decent SSDs in local stores in Germany? In Belgium I know they have Samsung 840 Evo's in MediaMarkt for example. In your case time is money, I would quickly grab one and give it to your IT administrator with your W530.
I still have a Western Digital 300GB HDD from 2009, which is still spinning.
But that is just my idea. But to answer your question again, an older SSD or HDD may work if it has a SATAII or SATAIII interface.

  • ITunes 12 - old style Get Info using Shift-Click not working

I've become accustomed to using iTunes 12, but because I have for a number of years utilised most of the fields available in the older version Get Info screens (not available by default in iTunes 12) in order to create and manage smart playlists, I have been relying on retaining that access by using <Shift-Click> to bring them up.  Alarmingly today I've attempted to access the old style Get Info screens only to discover that the <Shift-Click> option is seemingly not working!
As I hadn't heard of a change to this feature, nor can I find anything on the net about it, I am just wondering if anyone else is having this problem, and if so, does anyone know of a workaround?  I keep my versions of iTunes up to date and recently downloaded the latest version (to 12.1.0.71), so perhaps a change was included in that update?
Without easy access to those fields I may as well give up iTunes and go fly a kite, so any advice will be gratefully received!
    Cheers.

Access to the "old style" metadata editors has been dropped from iTunes 12.1 - I suspect that it was left in 12.0, with the shift right-click option, only because the new style editors were somewhat unstable/unfinished.  In most cases all the fields that were available pre iTunes 12 are available in 12.1.  Admittedly, the layout is a little counter-intuitive as you may have to scroll up/down, or expand the window by dragging one of its corners, to see everything.  One issue that some have noted is that the available metadata elements are now more constrained based on media kind - for example, track and disc number fields that used to be universally available are no longer displayed or editable for TV Shows and Movies.  There are also some strange inconsistencies - for example, that the Description element for audiobooks is only available for single items but not for groupings of two or more items, including albums.
For Music it looks like 12.1 has all the same fields available as were in iTunes 11.  For a single song you get this (Details and Sorting tab):
and for an album (or any selection of two or more songs) the corresponding tabs are:
Depending on the fields you use for your smart playlists you may find that the editors in iTunes 12.1 will work fine, though it may take a while to get used to the new layout.  If there still is a "back door" to the old style editors in 12.1 I've not seen any reports of what it is!

  • Regarding the W540 vs other Thinkpad models

    Hey there all,
I'm in serious need of some advice. After 8 trips to the depot/IBM support team, Lenovo has finally agreed to replace my W510 (was still under warranty). I'm limited to configuring a Thinkpad model. However, after some serious research, I can't find many positives about any of the models. Apparently in the last few years, the build quality has suffered.
First, I use my computer for basic tasks and run a lot of programs simultaneously. That being said, the furthest I usually push my machine is with Creative Suite. I never do any CAD/Maya rendering.
    My questions:
Has anyone had any positive experiences with the W540?
Are any of the T models still worth looking into?
I never really used the red trackpoint, but I heavily rely on the trackpad. Will the lack of dedicated buttons prove problematic? Ditto with the keyboard being so far to the side due to the addition of the num pad.
Any advantageous alternatives (somehwere around a 2k$ budget).
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Welcome imarsh
    1. There are mixed reviews about the W540. They have the best screen among ThinkPads, however there are people who does not like the new keyboard and keypads (subjective).
    2. As only ThinkPad W-series comes with NVIDIA Quadro GPU and they provide graphics acceleration for Adobe Creative Suite, I do not recommend other ThinkPad series if you are heavy on Creative Suite.
    3. Like I mentioned in 1., it would be great if you could go to a computer shop to physically try out the keyboard and trackpad. You could try out any 40 series for keyboard / trackpad, the keyboard / trackpad will be similar or same as W540.
    4. If performance is not too much of an issue, you could also consider W530, which is trackpad with physical button, and have better battery upgrades option.

  • Boot from USB-stick on old thinkpad?

    Hi,
I have an old Thinkpad 600E. It runs arch linux (and does this really fine), but I just want to try something new...
The thinkpad does not support booting from USB. I wonder if it is possible to boot a linux-distro on an usb-stick (like puppy) using GRUB on the thinkpad's hard drive - maybe someone has done this before or hasn an idea...?
    pseb

For older hardware like yours, I would give SliTaz a shot (http://www.slitaz.org/en). It's very small (25MB) and looks very promising. It has had good reviews on linux.com and distrowatch (see http://www.linux.com/feature/140573).

  • MBP15/17 2007 week models info

I have gone through about 6 macs in the last year. The first one being a mbp15, from about this time last year. That one had all the overheating, mooing, etc problems.
After that one got stolen I got a macbook, which was actually a pretty good unit. A little warm but nice and quiet and reliable.
Last week I finally went out and bought a mbp17 2.33 c2d, it was a 8703 model (2007 week 3), with a 9c62 display, so pretty new. I was hoping that after a year most of the issues were fixed. It was pretty close.
The 160 Hitachi drive was a little noisy. Really could tell the spin noise in a quiet room, and the seek noise was loud.
I went as far as using a tool in windows to change the automatic acoustic management of the drive to "quiet", which made a difference in the seek noise, but the constant spin hum was the same.
Temperature was great. It never got warm at all.
The display was not too bad, but I could tell some light leakage at the bottom and bottom corners of the screen. Really noticeable background.
I think I could of lived with those few issues, until decided to use it on my lap reclined back or laying down resting on my knees. The hinge is too loose and just flops close. It may sound like such a little issue, but it is how I use a laptop a lot of the time, so this was not acceptable. I thought this was a faulty unit, until I checked 4 other 17 inch mbps in stores and they all had this loose hinge syndrome. I still can't believe apple would not fix this. So today, I took back the 17, and replaced it with a brand new 15 inch.
I'm writing this on my (8704) week 4, 9c60 display, unit. That's a manufacture date of just over a week ago. This is the closest to perfection I have seen any of the laptops.
Very flawless screen, very quiet. No harddrive noise (120G drive), no fan noise, no other noises.
The temperature is ok too. Much warmer than the 17 inch, but I guess the bigger unit can discipate the heat over a larger area. Even though, it does get warmer, it is less warm than the mackbooks ive had, and the nice part is that even though the unit is warm at the bottom, the top of the unit and especially the hand rest area, stays cooler.
    Very acceptable...and I'm picky.
Here is some more things that I have noticed in my quest for the perfect laptop.
    17inch
    - loose hinge. I don't care that the screen is bigger and that its not meant to be used like that. I'm 6'4" and in my hands it is like a macbook in others, and I want to use it how ever I like. The display should not flop. Just make it like ALL other laptops Ive ever used.
    - the speakers in the 17inch are AWESOME and loud. Much more so than the mb, mpb15. I took it apart and the speaker units are larger and there are 4 of them it seems.
    - the 17 does have a very deep hand rest area and it is a little awkward when using it some time. I wish they would slide the keyboard down (or towards the front of the unit) That would help
    - the 17 had a noisy hd. I don't know if it was just the 160G drive, or maybe it simply is louder as there is more room in the unit and resonates louder. I saw on a site that the new mbps have a noise dampener metal disk on the drives, but when I looked in the unit I did not see one.
I would love to have the mbp17, but until the hinge issue is fixed, it's simply not usable to me. Period.
For now, the mbp15 that I have seems to be great. Could be a little cooler, but it is much better than the old mbp15s and the macbooks.
Just wanted to give back some info.
    MacBook Pro 15 Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    MacBook Pro 15 Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    MacBook Pro 15 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Yes, it does look a little grainy. Especially compared to my macbook with a glossy screen side by side.
It almost looks like a texture on top of a white or light backgrounds. Not noticeable when viewing color photos, but it probably is still affecting the image a bit.
If I focus on it I notice it, but it does not seem to bother me when I am just working.
The 9C62 screen on the 17 inch I mentioned was the same...maybe seemed even worse because of the larger area.
****, you. haha, now that you brought it up, i keep noticing the grain. sigh.
It almost seems that apple does not bother fixing problems but tries to replace things with new products. I assume that instead of trying to fix these non even/grainy displays, they are probably just working on the new LED based solutions and don't give a rats about all of the customers that are stuck with inferior products. I'm sure there will not be an upgrade path either. The stupid part is that I will just go out and buy a new one when it comes out. That said, I suppose apple is doing something right keeping all of us wrapped around their finger psychologically. I don't like it, but it's somehow it's true.

  • One old ThinkPad X31, bios update

Im searching for the newest BIOS update for one IBM X31, on this Lenovo site there isnt any support for this old model.
But I can find older laptops that are supported. When Im searching how to do the BIOS update Ive found that the easist way to do it is with some "ThinkPad Software Installer" but every old link is dead, and I can just reach for some old text document.
; http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/76hj06us.txt <- Old links with the text document.
There are other ways to update the BIOS is by doing it manually, and i dont have the patience to do so. But if I had it, then the problem would be that i can't find the newest BIOS version, cause the laptop model isnt supported by Lenovo. God knows why...
All of my problems lays in the issue that I want to boot up from one usbstick, and the current BIOS version is too old to have that possability. And I got the clever(?) idea to update the BIOS to problably get the option that would allow me to boot up with the stick.
AAAAnd NO, my idea wasnt clever, cause the laptop is very old and i can understand why it isnt supported anymore, but im very stubborn and i would really appreciate your help. My language sucks cause its middle in the night and i havent used my english in many years.

  • How do I completely wipe out old email account info?

I periodically have problems with my ATT email account and it quits downloading incoming mail to MacMail. ATT swears it is not their problem even though it isn't happening with any other email account but ATT. I don't have problems sending mail.
In the past I have fixed it by deleting the old account and going through adding it back as a "new" account to set it up again. In the past the 'Add Account' process would take me through setting up the imap mailbox and server, then go to the smtp setup. I have had to do this numerous times in the past - every few months.
But this time the first "Add Account" screen already displayed the email address (even though I deleted the account). And as soon as the imap info was entered the "Add Account" process appeared to complete the smtp setup automatically as it displayed the completed screen.
After that MacMail went through what appeared to be the downloading of emails into my inbox (several thousand of them). The bar in the "Mail Activity" area in the lower left corner continued to move across and the number of emails remaining was displayed.
In spite of that, the emails never showed up in my inbox. Oddly, the "Notes" from my iPhone (which are sent to my email automatically) were downloaded - just not any of the emails. I can send emails.
The ATT webmail is still showing all the emails and I can send and receive from webmail. I just can't download into MacMail.
It appears that somewhere in all the system stuff my Mac is retaining some ATT information and pulling that information instead of starting from scratch and truly setting it up as a new account. Where is all that old infor stored and how do I completely get rid of it?
Oddly, at the same time I was having the problems with my Mac, my iPhone stopped downloading ATT email as well. I was able to fix that by deleting the account and setting up again.
    Thanks,
    Camille

All of a sudden now - two whole days later - all the emails have finally appeared. I have no clue what is going on.

  • [Solved] Old Thinkpad Laptop with HPA LCD + SM712

I have some problem configuring X on an old laptop (IBM Thinkpad 1161-237 i series 1200 with an HPA LCD 12.1" 800x600 max resolution) ... I tried everything.
I can start X, but I have a mess on the screen ... you can see the windows, but there are lines and pixel with randon colours everywhere. In other words a mess.
I have a backtrack live cd, so I tried to see if the same problem come up with it: absolutely not, everything was fine. So, I checked up how backtrack configured X ... and I saw that it generated a xorg.conf file on the fly .... well, here we go I said. I copied that file on a usb stick and I putted it in the /etc/X11/ directory of arch .... startx ... and ..... same mess.
The video driver is siliconmotion ... and everything is up to date.
                                 Thanks in advance
PS: Obviosly I tried to use the various configurator ... the results was X up with black scree during the configuration but the file was generated ... using this one, same mess I told you above.
Last thing. I also use hal (it starts from rc.conf at start up).
Last edited by saronno (2009-10-05 18:58:05)

    Still no ideas?
How could it be that the autogenerate backtrack's xorg.conf doesn't work correctly in arch?
It's the exactly same machine, same configuration ..... I'm absolutely confused.
It doesn't make sense to me.
It starts X on arch with that xorg.conf, but the screen is completely messy ...
meanwhile I've tried also hwd and other tools .... there is no way ... :-(

  • INSTALLING A NEW LARGER HD IN AN OLD THINKPAD 380Z - PROBLEMS

I own an old but still very useful THINKPAD 380Z and tryied to improve it by replacing the original 4 GB IBM HD by a new unused 40 GB Seagate HD. To my surprise, using FDISK I could only find 8 GB, nothing more. I also tryied to update the BIOS by downloading from LENOVO site a corrective file.
When applied, it found nothing to change and te BIOS keeps indicating a 1998 date  in the startup, while the corrective file should have updated it to year 2000 version BIOS. Does somebody knows what is happening and what to do?
    Cordially

I know this is an old topic but I'm interested to know if you found a way around the size limit.
Also, were you able to get BIOS to report the correct version?

  • Data Model Info

    Hi all.
    I have a little question.
I have made a Mac OS X app that uses CoreData with a DataModel and SQLite method.
Once the DB is created if I want to update it with, for example, another field, how I can to do that?
If I change only the DataModel the program falls!

You have to create a new version of your data model and add a mapping model to your project to migrate the data. Choose Design > Data Model > Add Model Version to create a new version of your data model. Add your new field to the new version.
Choose File > New File to add a mapping model to your project. The mapping model is in the Resources group under both Mac OS X and iPhone. Pick the appropriate version. Make the old version of your data model the source model and the new version the destination model.
You're also going to have to write some code to migrate the data to the new version of your data model. Read the Core Data Model Versioning and Data Migration Programming Guide, which is part of Apple's documentation, for additional information on updating Core Data data models.

  • Extending range of Airport Extreme (old round model)

    Hi,
I have 2 airport extreme base stations (old model - round ones). I have set one as a Main on WDS network and the other as a Remote. However, it does not seem to be working. I have followed the instructions given here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4262
    But it is not working.
Now, Airport Utility (5.6.1 is the only one that works with these stations) does not even display the second base station.
Is there a step by step document that explains how to set such a network up? Or could someone take me step by step through the process?
Thank you very much for your help.

I would bring the Expresses to the room where you have your Extreme and factory reset the Expresses so that they are in the original condition when they came out of the box - they will reflect their Apple IDs.
I would then open the Airport Utility (I am assuming you have the new Extreme, not the old one). Scan for the Expresses and then join them to the network.
If they work in the room where your Extreme is located then they are configured appropriately. They I would try moving them back to the room where you want to extend your network. If they then do not work you will know it is not the Express but the amount of concrete and metal in your building.
