Old timer can't load old FCE.

After a long absence, I can't load my old FCE 2.0.1 Went through the FMS Remover process and still can't engage the application. Tried to dump "Preferences" without knowing why and had no success. Is the program out of date? Do I need another upgrade? I'm an old guy with a thick brain. Any thoughts?

I'm on a MacBook Pro/OS 10.6.7 and I successfully opened FCE with a total start-over after clearing the old program out. Then I ran into the AGP issue and found (with the help of this site) that simply holding down "escape" let me get started. Now I have another "issue." I'm attempting to load a large file (75 G's) of HD footage from a hard drive into FCE and I've only got an S400 Firewire. I'm guessing the reason I can't read any of the scenes (no render them) is possibly due to the need for a S800 cable to effectively load all the information. If you can help I'd greatly appreciate your advice. Otherwise, I'll seek an answer on this site. Thanks for your attention.

New PC can't load old library.

I was able to use my iPod to transfer my library from my old PC to my new PC, however now I can't get the library into my newly installed iTunes library. What am I doing wrong? I followed the on-line help and it just says once I've copied it from iPod to my new computer it magically would appear in my new library, well it didn't. I have tried to go to the iTunes File then Add Folder to library, get to where I saved the iPod dump (file where my music is saved) and NOTHING! Frustrated big time! What do I need to do?

iTunes the application is either installed and works or it does not. If it is working then there is no need to uninstall and reinstall it. If it does not work then Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates contains detailed advice on repairing things when a simple reinstall won't work.
Uninstalling & reinstalling iTunes should have no effect on the contents of the library or the media folder. Reinstalling iTunes won't fix a problem with a broken library that doesn't contain the correct information, cannot locate files etc.
In the normal course of things the easiest way to move a library from one computer to another is to copy the entire iTunes folder from User's Music on the old computer into User's Music on the new one. Things only get more complicated if you've followed Apple's advice when running low on disk space at some point, have relocated the media folder to a new path, and thus have what is known as a split library. The migrate iTunes library post should give the relevant information in either case.
Don't worry about uninstalling iTunes. Hopefully when you copy over the entire iTunes folder from the laptop into the new computer again it will all work as it should. If not I can give more detailed advice if you can tell me more about what is stored where on the laptop, where presumably the library still works.

Just to be clear, what do you mean by; "can't load CS2"?
What happens? Do you get error messages? Does the media just not read?
Are you aware of THIS?
It is pretty much a case-by-case basis, but I do know people running CS2 on Windows 8 under compatability mode. More info would be helpful.

I'm basically wondering if my current computer crashes and I need to go buy a new one, can I take the information that has been backed up onto my time capsule and load it onto my new computer?

You are probably using Time Machine to backup your MacBook Pro, right? Then the additional 300 GB could be local Time Machine snapshots. Time Machine will write the hourly backups to the free space on your hard disk, if the backup drive is temporarily not connected. You do not see these local backups in the Finder, and MacOS will delete them, when you make a regular backup to Time Machine, or when you need the space for other data.

I have restarted my computer, but the information remains the same. How do I reclaim the use of the 300GB? Why is it showing up as "Backups" when it used to indicate "Photos"? Are my photos safe on the external drive?
You have tested the library on the external drive, and so your photos are save there.
The local TimeMachine snapshot probably now contains a backup of the moved library. Try, if connecting your Time Machine drive will reduce the size of your local Time Machine snapshots.

I am just avoiding Yosemite like the plague.. (plague on you Yosemite!!) .. as its networking is so bad it causes chaos on my network.. to all other devices.. even though only one device actually runs Yoyos!!
I am not sure how hard it is for you to go back to Mountain Lion.. or if you have a computer running ML on the network.. if so definitely use it.
What OS was last used by the MBP when you stopped using it or is it fully up to date. Is the computer in the network now? If so it is much easier to copy and paste the files from a live computer.
Did you encrypt the backup.. that would really mess things up or have an encrypted disk??
Have you used the normal TM tool in Yosemite to try and recover your files?? Or perhaps migrated the files.. this can work fine.. migration often being a better way of doing things.. although there are a few rules about using different user names.. etc.
There is another proviso here I must add.. Yosemite cannot see the backup quickly.. what I mean is that your backup is >500GB. Even by ethernet Yosemite version Time Machine can take more than 24hours just to index that.. maybe longer and by wireless a lot longer.. 3-5 times.. I do not know why spotlight is so slow in Yosemite.. but trust me.. it is pathetic. The yoyo got its string in a knot and seems to need to untangle it for every single file on the backup.
Be very patient if you open TM backup in Yosemite.. and definitely do this by ethernet not wireless.. otherwise you might die of old age beforehand.

Go to your account in the iTunes Store and look for the De-authorise All button in your account's details. Use the De-authorise All and then authorise the PCs you still have.

Old Time Machine Hard Drive - Can't access files?

I have just put an external hard drive I have not used for a approx a year into a spare bay in my Mac Pro. It has HD video on it, but was surprised when I rebooted my machine to see it is a Time Machine drive (green and white desktop TM hard drive icon). There is just under 400GB free space of the total 1TB drive, but can only access approx 260GB of that free space.
So, I am wondering if the remainder of the drive - approx 140GB is an old Time Machine backup from either Lion or Snow Leopard.
Time Machine can not see the files nor can I access them via Finder. I only have Mountain Lion on my machine at present, but could partition my Boot SSD drive to add Lion or Snow Leopard on to it.
Is there any reason why I can't access these TM files if they do existing, or could there be other reasons why this is happening.

Sorry, I think it's the way I replied to your last question.
TM remains switched off from doing last clean install and have not used it this time. I now use an SSD for my boot drive and all my important files I use as and when needed are stored on other hard drives.
TM at the moment is swtiched off, but with the paddlock open it is asking me to Select Backup Disk - is this what you meant in your last post? Just wanted to clarify - thanks

Upon upgrading my older iMac's hard drive to 500GB and more or less filling it, my 500GB Time Capsule became less useful as a backup and more useful as an eternal drive. I've bought a new 2TB Time Capsule to use as my primary backup/router, and have connected my old 500GB directly to my iMac via ethernet cable to store large media files and free up some disk space. My problem is that the "TC Backup Disc" partition appearing on my old Time Capsule is the only place I can store files, and this partition won't back up via Time Machine to my new Time Capsule. I've tried erasing and restoring, but remain unable to create any folders on my old Time Capsule that Time Machine will back up. Any ideas?

The Time Capsule is a network drive and Time Machine cannot backup files that are already on a network drive.
You might want to take a look at Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper, as both of these utilities will backup a network drive like the Time Capsule.

Neither my local computer consultant nor I have been ableto change any of the settings in Time Machine to correct this problem. How much data is being backed-up from each Mac? (see what's shown for Estimated size of full backup under the exclusions box in Time Machine Prefs > Options).
Is there any other data on your Time Capsule, besides the backups?
Most likely, there just isn't room. Time Machine may be trying to do a very large (or full) backup of one or both Macs, and can't. Since it won't ever delete the most recent backup, there has to be enough room for one full backup plus whatever it's trying to back up now, plus 20% (for workspace).
